37 Steering problem of the 2014 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 02/04/2019

"takata recall" I have lost control of the steering in my car on multiple occasions. I have taken the car to the Infiniti dealership twice, and twice they have replaced the three computers in the car that control the steering. Though I have been able to save the car from an accident so far I fear I will not always be as lucky.

39 Steering problem of the 2014 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 01/21/2019

During 20 degree f, I drove my car with no issues to a retail store, parked it in a parking lot. After shopping, returned to my car & started it up, put in reverse, started backing up, then several malfunction lights lit up on the car's dash & the steering wheel locked all of a sudden. I could not turn the steering wheel. I could only move the car forward & backward & this is all while the car is powered on. I had to have the car towed to the dealership. In past history, there has been 2 other steering recalls (electric power assist system & adaptive steering parts) on this same make/model,& year. The dealership service team told me on 1/22/19 & the issue with my car was the chassis control module (the brain of the steering wheel) & a lane departure malfunction & the cost of repair is $1600 (not covered) despite I have an extended warranty. The chassis control module as the brain of the steering wheel clearly relates to the previous steering recalls (electric power assist system & adaptive steering parts) along with the lane departure malfunction as diagnosed by Infiniti dealer in suitland, maryland. The description of the previous 2 recalls (electric power assist system & adaptive steering parts) say that in freezing climates, the engine compartment reaches freezing, disabling the power steering system, resulting in a loss of steering, increasing risk of crash. As diagnosed by Infiniti, definitely the chassis control module & even the lane departure technology parts have not been included in the previous steering recalls & should have been. Please issue steering recalls for the chassis control module and lane departure malfunction parts or just the entire steering system. Infiniti is fixing my car at no charge to me after I told them about the related previous steering recalls. Per the internet, many people have experienced this with this car model. Danger!!.

40 Steering problem of the 2019 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 12/29/2018

This car has always drifted to the right. Now it is drifting to the right and left. Constantly having to correct steering to keep straight. Car pulls hard to the left when braking. Going over bumps or at high speeds the car feels very loose and getting harder to keep in control. The car also shifts at 2 rpms and feels like its jerking. Has been taken in for alignment 4 times and the dealerships refuse to inspect or fix car. The toe specs are constantly being thrown out of spec in less than 4 weeks when hitting bumps the steering wheel shifts and stays shifted. It is harder to turn left than it is to turn right.

42 Steering problem of the 2016 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 01/23/2018

My Infiniti Q50 will, at random, heavily pull and shift across multiple lanes of traffic. The pulling is worse during acceleration and has had at least three alignments in 2018 in attempt to correct the issue. Infiniti has been unable to fully resolve the pulling and the technician, in his own words, described the vehicle as dramatic and unsafe. Additionally, Infiniti has replaced my driver mirror twice in efforts to reduce vibration at highway speeds. While driving at highway speeds, the mirror will vibrate making visibility and use of the driver mirror limited to not usable at all.

43 Steering problem of the 2014 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 01/01/2018

Bought car on 12/30/17. Upon driving home the car swerved repeated into other lanes. As it was snowing out, I did not take it seriously. Then on 12/31/18 and 1/1/18 I did not drive. On 1/2/18 I emailed my sales rep and informed him of the swerving and my concern for safety. No response. Then on 1/3/18 I emailed jake william again and still no response. Ps I have copies of all emails. Then on 1/4/18 lia contacted me on my experience. I informed them and then jake called me. He informed me to bring to car back for an alignment check. I did. Service informed me my newly certified car was out of alignment. They said they fixed it. I drove it home and immediately informed jake willis it was still pulling both sides. I told him I am bringing it back tomorrow 1/12/18 and I would need to purchase a different car. He said I needed to speak to the gym. I spoke to steve (gm) at lia Infiniti and he told me there is nothing wrong with the car and that it the way the car runs. Hhhmmm I need help with this. The car steering is not right. I have since looked on line to find out the Infiniti Q50 2014 has steering problem. What can I do?.

44 Steering problem of the 2014 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 05/12/2017

It started with a flat tire and the psi light lite up on board and flat tire also, had the flat tire fixed and took car to the shop where I got tires replaced, within a year of ownership, replaced due to them being bubbled gm replaced them for free; took car to (just tires gm recommendation) with free tire balance and rotation and they also did front end alignment, after that lights was still on and shop rep said to drive the car a couple miles and it would reset itself so I did and still light was on drove to church on 4 lane hwy 85 n bound and I felt a slight tug on the right passenger side of the front of the car and decided to move out of the lane behind a 18 wheeler as I attempted to move out of my lane the car made a sudden jerk back in the lane which I was in and the wheel locked and I could not control or unlock it and the car began to spin and slide into the rear end of the 18 wheeler, the sonar system was engaged and it did not respond to what it was designed to do, nor did the lane departure indicator, nor the anti-braking anti skidding work as it was designed which caused the accident which lead me going to the hospital with a diagnosis of muscle inflammation. The sonar failed was illuminated on the dash. My 2014 Q50 sedan was equipped with sonar, lane departure, blind spot indicator; it was fully equipped. I am very sure that the steering and anti-braking anti skidding did not engage as it should. Infiniti will send an inspector to the totaled car and pull the black box/or chip and check out what went wrong. Waiting on the result on or after June 14 or 16 as of their decision.

45 Steering problem of the 2014 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 03/23/2017

The contact owns a 2014 Infiniti Q50. While driving approximately 20 mph, the contact lost control of the vehicle and collided into a residential building. The contact received minor injuries and received medical treatment. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not fully diagnosed. It was unknown if the air bags deployed. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 34,000.

46 Steering problem of the 2014 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 03/09/2017

With the vehicle stationary, or at a very low speed, not sure but in a parking lot. I was backing out of a parking spot after transitioning from reverse to drive turned the steering wheel to the left rather quickly and the steering wheel came to an abrupt stop with a noticeable thud sound. After it stopped I was able then able to continue turning to the left but more effort was required and noticeably stepped feel to the movement for about 30 seconds. I have had this happed twice, and have experienced the stepped feedback on two other occasions but it took a lot longer for the feeling to go away.

47 Steering problem of the 2014 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 01/31/2017

Unsafe vibration and uncontrollable steering when breaking over 40 mph. Sonar sensors doesn't not work at all. When traveling on the highway or streets and above 20 mph when breaking for a traffic light there is an intense vibration that shakes the car and steering wheel, also make turning, controlling the steering wheel and staying in the lane extremely difficult!.

48 Steering problem of the 2016 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 09/29/2016

There is a dangerous design/engineering flaw in the Infiniti steer-by-wire system and Infiniti refuses to even acknowledge it. The car is incapable of driving in a straight line, is constantly drifting to either the right or to the left and requires a steering adjustment every few seconds. On a long drive, on a hwy, this is not only fatiguing in the arms but fatiguing mentally, as well, as the driver can never relax. I've had the car to the dealer 4x and while the service people have privately admitted to me that the problem exists, their consumer affairs people (customer service) claim there is nothing wrong with the car and is performing correctly within its design parameters. Most people don't notice it and even I didn't notice it until I hit a straight-away on an interstate hwy. The dealer did a wheel alignment, just to see if it would help but it did not. The service manager acknowledged that I am not the first person who has noticed the problem but they can't help anybody because Infiniti won't even acknowledge the problem exists, so there is nothing that can be fixed. I took the service manager for a ride and proved to him the car drifts. He was amazed. The danger comes in the mental and physical fatigue, plus while in the perfect world we never give anything but 100% perfect concentration to our driving, we can't help it. . . Sometimes our mind wanders or we're distracted. Doing that in a car that will not drive in a straight line is extremely dangerous, as the car can veer off very quickly. This is the first complaint like this I have ever filed. In fact, this is my 4th Infiniti and until now, they all had perfect steering but now I'm stuck with a 3 year lease in a dangerous steer-by-wire car. At the very least, this should be investigated and the investigator should not be swayed by Infiniti telling them the the car meets its design parameters.

49 Steering problem of the 2016 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 06/20/2016

I have complained to Infiniti several times throughout the 6 months I've had the vehicle. I noticed after a few weeks of leasing the car that when I steer almost to a 90 degree angle whether it be out of a right or left turn the car loses acceleration. This happens on a daily basis, not every time I turn, but more times than none it loses considerable acceleration which has almost caused a wreck. To me this is a major safety issue. I've never experienced this in an other vehicle I've driven. Infiniti says it's a traction control issue that disengages the throttle when the computer feels the rear wheels will spin out of control. This loss of acceleration happens at low speeds and usually pulling out of a shopping center either right or left. At low speeds this should not be a safety response.

50 Steering problem of the 2015 Infiniti Q50

51 Steering problem of the 2014 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 06/05/2016

Das (direct adaptive steering) steer by wire system loses calibration which causes steering loss. Dealers re-calibrate system but calibration loss continues. Faults and errors don't register and backup steering system does not engage as the fault in the system is not triggered but makes the car undriveable and creates a major safety issue when calibration causes the car to steer (turn) without turning the steering wheel. This happens from start and in motion, both city and highway. In my experience always during warm weather and when driving straight.

52 Steering problem of the 2015 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 06/01/2016

The vehicle is on a national do not sell list, this is awful for resale value!!!.

53 Steering problem of the 2014 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 06/01/2016

It is difficult to control the car. Specially during curves/turning. A lot of force must be maintained in the steering wheel. The cars wants to go opposite to the direction being manipulated by the driver in the steering wheel.

54 Steering problem of the 2015 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 06/01/2016

Car pulls to the left on its own , happens pretty often. The force is so bad that I can berely keep the car on the road. Have taken the car to dealer 6 times they called Infiniti manufacturer engineer and he said they could not find the problem I have several videos I am afraid to drive this car. The car does that few mins after starting the car it pulls to the left with a hard force for like 2-3 mins than becomes normal like nothing ever happened.

55 Steering problem of the 2015 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 04/15/2016

First of all this is the second instance for this, the first time it happened the dealer dismissed as the drive assist behaving normally. However while my wife was taking our son to school this morning 04-15-16, the steering wheel decided to turn to the right suddenly at 45mph, luckily my wife was able to correct for it by steering in the opposite direction. She then called me and said that something is wrong with the steering of the car and that it kept was pulling to right hard. I told her to find a safe place to pull over and turn the car off and then start it again. After she was able to stop somewhere safely she turned the car off and then restarted it and the steering seemed normal. I have expressed my concerns of the safety of the drive by wire and steering assist to the dealer we bought it from and to Infiniti consumer affairs when this happened the first week of owning the car, now that it has happened again have no confidence in the safety of this car, especially with my 3 year old in it. I can not express to the worry I go through every time they drive the car. I intend on contacting both the dealer and infinity consumer affairs but I know what I can expect from them, next step is contacting a lemon law lawyer fro further advice.

56 Steering problem of the 2014 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 02/27/2016

On several occasions while driving my car, it has locked up on me. I have taken the car back to the dealership three times for this same issue. The last time I took it in because my car locked up on me after coming off an highway and I was hit by another car. I took it back to Infiniti who claimed they could not duplicate this issue. Even though I pointed them to scores and scores of similar issues being reported on the internet. Infiniti's response was "anyone can write anything on the internet". I thought this comment was insensitive and downright ridiculous. Even though anyone can write anything on the internet, most people would not get on the internet to complain about a problem with their car that was not true - what would they get out of it??Infiniti's cavalier attitude has shocked me since my family have bought five Infinitis from them over the years and have never had these types of complaint. Additionally this type of issue could kill folks! is Infiniti trying to balance lives against a recall that's needed. . . . . . I am shocked and apalled!!!!!!!!!!!!.

57 Steering problem of the 2015 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 10/11/2015

The vehicle suddenly pulls very hard to the right requiring force to keep in a straight line. The vehicle did not experience any alignment altering potholes or road bumps. This is a dangerous software malfunction with the das. I am very lucky this occurred at low speed and without my children in the car.

58 Steering problem of the 2015 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 10/10/2015

On numerous occasions while in motion at various speeds the vehicle will audibly alert, brake, steer, and deaden throttle response. These are related to enhanced safety features of the vehicle. The problem is that these occur when there is nothing to avoid or any danger present. These have occurred at high speeds and in situations where they could have caused an accident. My local dealership blamed all issues on the placement of an ez pass transponder. I find this to be completely absurd. Infiniti customer care will not assist. I have disabled all of these systems to avoid potentially dangerous situations. I note in the dates that this occured on 10/10/15, however there have been multiple instances. On 10/10/15 the vehicle steering had to be held at 30-45 degrees to the left to keep the vehicle in a straight line.

59 Steering problem of the 2014 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 09/24/2015

I was backing up into a space and lost complete steering - automatic or manual. The steering wheel was turning freely and the front tires remained in the position they were in just prior to this incident. I stopped the car immediately and turned off the engine. After restarting the car, I continued backing up but felt the torque of the steering wheel alternating between power steering and manual steering.

60 Steering problem of the 2015 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 09/22/2015

While driving on the highway 60 plus mph, I lost control of the vehicle. I turned the steering wheel left and the car went right. This occurred twice on two separate days. This is a major safety issue.

61 Steering problem of the 2014 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 03/28/2015

I was driving at 45 mph on a straight parkway with one hand loosely on the steering wheel when all of a sudden the steering wheel went to the right as did the front wheels as if I was making a right hand turn. I pulled the steering wheel to the left in order to continue going straight and placed my foot on the brake. A few seconds later, I intentionally took my hands off the steering wheel and, again, the car wanted to make a right hand turn. This phenomenon with the steering lasted about 15 minutes at which time the steering was normal. . . Updated 05/07/15 updated 9/16/2015.

62 Steering problem of the 2014 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 02/04/2015

The contact owns a 2014 Infiniti Q50. The contact stated that the vehicle was serviced under NHTSA campaign number: 13v588000 (steering); however, the failure recurred in above freezing conditions one year later. While driving 10 mph in a parking lot, the "chassis malfunction" warning light illuminated on the instrument panel and the vehicle failed to steer in the intended direction. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer and dealer were made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 12,000.

63 Steering problem of the 2014 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 01/15/2015

The contact owns a 2014 Infiniti Q50. While driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle would independently veer to the right. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the software needed to be updated. The update was completed, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 3,000.

64 Steering problem of the 2014 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 01/01/2015

The contact owns a 2014 Infiniti Q50. While parked, the steering wheel seized without warning. The failure occurred several times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 5,000.

65 Steering problem of the 2014 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 12/26/2014

On 12/26/2014 & 12/27/2014 at speeds between 5 mph & 30 mph, the car wanted to turn itself to the right. . . It required drivers correction with significant force to maintain a straight line on the road. On 12-27-2014, taking the car to the Infiniti dealer (sacramento Infiniti) the problem went away after reaching freeway speeds. I left the car with the dealer service department for diagnosis & repair. The service manager said he was completely unaware of this type of problem. The car has "direct adaptive steering" (a drive by wire system).

66 Steering problem of the 2014 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 12/11/2014

I am making this report to alert you to what I believe is a dangerous condition in a newly offered vehicle system, as reported by a writer (chris clonts) for motor trend magazine. I do not own this vehicle nor any Infiniti model. The vehicle involved is being used by the magazine as a long term test vehicle. . Read more...

67 Steering problem of the 2014 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 07/29/2014

The car began drastically pulling to the left and I had to turn the wheel to the right, just to have it drive straight. This continued for about 3 miles. I got home, turned the car off, waited approx 5 mins and turned it back on and the car continued pulling to the left. I attempted to drive it for an additional 6-7 miles in an effort to get it to the dealer and prior to getting to the dealer, it started driving properly. The dealer said that since an error did not appear, they cannot do anything. I took the car in anyway and an engineer looked at the car on 8/4/14 and the only thing in the logs was that the car had low voltage. We researched steering issues with the Q50 and there are multiple instances documented where other consumers are having this same issue. I live in arizona and obviously this issue is not related to cold climates as initially indicated in the recall. This car was built in Apr 2014, which is after the recall and similar steering issues are occurring.

68 Steering problem of the 2014 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 07/20/2014

After merging onto the freeway, the car began pulling to the left. My first thought was a flat tire. Checking the tire pressures, the front left tire displayed -- while the three other tires were 35 or 36 lbs. Since have run flat tires, I continued driving. After approximately two miles, the pulling began to subside. After about another mile there was no pull at all and the tire pressure read 35lbs for the front left tire. I checked the front tire when I stopped and there was nothing wrong with it. I am guessing it was a problem with the electronic steering. I haven't had any issues since. I have an appointment with the dealer to have the car checked in two weeks when I take it in for routine service.

69 Steering problem of the 2014 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 06/17/2014

Car intermittently turns by itself. It will make a left turn if I release my grip on the steering wheel at 35mph+. This is not an alignment issue, it is much more than that and also, the power steering has quit on 3 occasions, reverting to standard steering which nearly got me in a head on collision. Also, the steering issue will stop as suddenly as it starts. I know the difference between an alignment issue and a car that wants to turn by itself. This is a fight to keep the car going straight on a level, straight road then all of a sudden it will stop doing it! normally the problem lasts for 20-30 minutes and sometimes when I change steering modes, the problem will stop but not usually. Sometimes I pull over and shut the engine off as suggested by Infiniti but that has never worked. Also, Infiniti suggested that I do not touch or turn the steering wheel prior to starting the car as this may cause the problem. Really? this feeble attempt at a solution did not work but confirmed that they do in fact know there is a problem. Many other drivers of this car have experienced the exact same issue. Infiniti denies a problem exists. I have "self-videos" of the problem as it is happening. This is dangerous but I have no recourse. I have clear videos which show the car turning on its own. They say the car is operating as designed. The last occurrence was about 10 days ago and it was in the shop but once again, no solution. I have now had my car back for about 4 days since that last occurrence and it hasn't done it yet but I know from experience that it is just a matter of time. I am in socal and at one point, Infiniti had 2 japanese guys who came from nashville to check the car out and that is the time they replaced the steer by wire system but that did not fix the issue. They clearly know there is an issue with this car.

70 Steering problem of the 2014 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 05/29/2014

On several occasions this Q50 sport suddenly begins pulling very strongly to the left, almost turning me into oncoming traffic in one instance. This issue has stopped and started again a few different times. No changes have been made to the vehicle and it happens while traveling on a level surface and usually lasts for a couple of hours then stops pulling but occurs again at seemingly random times. It is a profound and dangerous physical and "automatic" turn of the steering wheel while driving on a level, flat surface and the wheel must be held firmly to keep the vehicle operating in a straight line. It is easy to detect since it stops pulling as suddenly as it starts. The problem is not isolated to my case as there are other reports of the same issue online (some reports have it pulling right instead of left). The other reports are very similar in description and the level of resulting fear. I reported the issue to Infiniti consumer affairs and also to the service department where I purchased the car. Surprisingly, Infiniti did not instruct me to stop driving and seem to be taking the issue quite lightly. Their consumer affairs department said they would contact me in a few days with no additional instructions. For the second time (for this issue), I brought the car in to the dealer (6/6/14) and was told that they would "do what they can do" and if they can't repeat the problem there is likely nothing they can do. Huh? the first time, I was told I would get a call from an engineer which did not happen but I got a call from a service rep who told me to drive 30 mph and allow it to "reset" but was not asked to leave the car. On 6/5/2014 at around 8 pm pt, when it happened again, I took it in to the dealer (the following morning) and insisted that they take a more serious look at this lethal issue before someone (or me) has a serious accident. I have video of the issue.
