general problems of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee - part 2

2014 Cherokee limited with a 2. 4l I am the original owner, and have had all services done. Car is in good shape. This is now a persistent problem each time I refuel. Within a few minutes or miles, the car engine will stall, tell me that I have to put the car in park to restart. This is extremely dangerous and has happened to me in the middle of intersections or driving down a street. I fill the tank, I don't overfill it. When the pump clicks off, I am done and don't add more. Then I drive off and for about 5-10 minutes, I am at risk of the car stalling. I have had it happen while driving, and more often when I stop at a light. It will restart. But this happens only after I refill the tank.

Had just filled gas tank (1st time since we purchased the vehicle on 6/9/21). Stopped at traffic light. Engine quit and dashboard message advised to put car in park and push start button. Car started but quit almost immediately. While in park tried to rev engine, but got minimal response. When traffic light changed, proceeded forward. "transmission service needed" message appeared, and d (drive) on gearshift and on dashboard started blinking. Check engine light was, (and remains) on. Car quit 3rd time, same "transmission service needed" message appeared. When I got home, put car in reverse to back into driveway, got aloud clunking sound. Shut off engine and kept it off for 30-40 minutes. Started the car again and took it around the block, but none of the previous issues repeated.

Every time I fill my vehicle up it stalls 3 or 4 times in the middle of traffic.

When I fill up my car completely the car will sputter and turn off when idling at a stop. Then it may turn off and says to put in park. This has happened several times and in intersections which one incident almost caused an accident. Only happens when car gas tank is completely full. Please advise. Thank you.

I was driving on the highway approximately 60mph, suddenly the service 4wd light appears. I took it to a Jeep dealership service center and diagnose and needed a 2 speed transfer case unit. It was replaced costing a little under $3000. The problem was not fixed and garage said it was misdiagnosed and still doesn’t know what’s wrong. Now the vehicle stalls while I’m driving and will not start immediately. I’m afraid this is going to cause an accident! also it will have a sudden acceleration or a delayed acceleration while driving or when moving from a complete stop. This is very scary!.

The ptu case is faulty leaving my 4wd unavailable.

I was driving and stopped at traffic light and notification popped up saying "shift gear to park (p) and to desired gear". After performing that and when I went back to d all power went away and car started rolling backwards (there was a little slope). So I went to park again and tried it once more, power came for 3 seconds and went out again.

3/1/2021: rough idle and overheating after filling up gas tank that morning upon arriving at work. Jeep had problems when leaving work at roughly 1630. Idles poorly, very rough and dipped from 900 rpm down to 200 rpm while almost stalling. I decided to drive home and thought it may be a little water in the gas from filling up that morning on macdill. Ran rough on the way out of macdill. At the home depot traffic light, the transmission would not engage and I had to switch to park and back into drive. Once onto gandy blvd the temperature started to overheat. I turned on the heater to act as a second radiator and decided to shoot for Jeep dealer in st. Pete. I made it there and caught a ride home with wife's sister. Dealer drove Jeep on Tuesday a total of 23 miles without any temperature above 202. Told that lot boy and service supervisor drove it. No charge since st. Pete Jeep couldn't find any faults. I had wife take me to pick it up. On ride home got up to 207. No rough idle. ***rough idle and stalling while driving in traffic continued. Noticed this always occurred after filling gas tank up to full*** Jun 29, 2021: got gas again at macdill Monday morning upon arrival at work. Monday afternoon car ran terrible. Remote start stalled before I got to Jeep. Started up again when I got to car and engine ran rough. Nearly stalled several times. Engine almost stalled at final left turn while heading to gate. Transmission indicator flashed again and transmission failed to work. Display showed to place in park to select drive. Had to coast up onto median to keep from blocking traffic when engine started to stall again when light turned green and I proceeded through light. Occasionally ran rough all the way home for the 43 miles and 1 hour drive. This time there was no significant overheating. Just went up to low 200s. Decided to submit a NHTSA complaint since dealership said they wouldn't be able to find anything wrong if no check engine light came on. Dangerous.

When refueling, the gas pump shuts off after . 2 to . 3 gallons repeatedly.

Upon fueling the vehicle, the vehicle operates as it is intended to for a brief moment, until idling on the roads. The vehicle will suddenly drop in rpms, and if it gets far enough, the vehicle stalls, directs me to shift to park, and press the start button. In some cases, the vehicle will start right back up, but with some trouble, or not at all. Vehicle becomes a metallic vegetable and starts emitting a rich smell of petrol. This issue does not occur when constantly driving at higher speeds or after the vehicle has driven 50 miles after fueling.

Gas cap warning light. The night it appeared, got gas filled up the car gas tank. Put cap back on tank , pulled out drove approx. 1/4 mile car completely shut down at a red light and has several times. I ask dealership about it. They cleared code. Said I could buy a new cap I did. Did not help. Have it at mechanics today for testing. He thought there was a recall for this problem but I did not find one.

After filling up my car everytime it shuts off in the middle of the road and switches to neutral. Rpm shoots up randomly and shuts off.

Car bucks and stalls after filling up with gas. Four times to the dealer and they cannot figure out what is wrong with it. Finally, driving car stalled in traffic. Made it to the dealer. They were able to finally see the problem as no codes were going off before. Car was in motion and stalled. Restarted,then stalled at the red light. So it stalled while moving and stationary.

I need to put oil in my car at least two times in between oil changes. My car has stopped multiple times when I turn because it ran out of oil. The engine burns oil so fast. I don't drive that much. This is expensive and very very dangerous. This car needs to be recalled.

On several occasions numbering an excessive amounts my 2014 Jeep Cherokee latitude 9-speed transmission has exhibited the hard shifting sluggish shifting and jerking since I've owned the vehicle . Beginning in August of 2020 I noticed on multiple occasions that when I went to pull out from a complete stop my vehicle would not go and would drop into neutral suddenly and I would have to return the vehicle to park and back to drive to get it to move and has caused me to almost be in a vehicular accident on two multiple occasions on the same day and I am concerned for my safety in this vehicle. I have researched and seen that there are numerous recalls for this model and make but mine Jeep is not included but it exhibits the same problems and it has the same make and model that numerous recalls were issued for.

Shifter is continually lighting up with the red indicator light on all gears (p, r,n &d) very recently I get an error message stating �service shifter� the indicator lights have been ongoing for a few years at this point, but only recently the error message. This error message happened while drive 70mph down there freeway. Also, there has been an issue with the �fuel vapor system� that I've had neatly since we bought the Jeep new. It's been looked at and no one will touch it without costing an arm and a leg. Unacceptable for a new vehicle! both are ongoing issues occurring since winter of 2013.

A few days after purchasing this vehicle I was slowing down to enter a traffic circle when the car started jerking and the car completely shut down. I had to put it pack in park and re-start, this did not happen quickly. Lucky, the car behind me was patient. This could have caused a serious accident and needs to be addressed.

Check engine light gave a code p0520 so an oil pressure switch was installed and a front crank seal so that was replaced at vehicle mileage 51,722. 2014 trailhawk still leaking oil so oil pan gasket repaired. Still leaking oil so different mechanic ordered an oil filter housin component to fix. He said many oil filter housings in Jeep Cherokees have had these replaced!! smelled oil while driving and saw oil drops on garage floor. These oil filter housings should be recalled and I should be reimbursed. I've spent over $1500 to fix an oil leak because mechanics misdiagnosed. Dealership mechanics should be aware of these inferior parts!.

I purchased the vehicle used with maybe 60,000 miles in August 2018 and within a few months of the purchase, on December 24 2018, the car jerked then stalled out while I was driving on a neighborhood street. The message board gave a transmission error and said to put the car in park and restart. After restarting, the vehicle did not drive well (hard to steer, accelerate). Had it towed to the dealership, where they did some work on the transmission. In November 2019, just after refueling, the vehicle lost power while I was at a busy traffic light during rush hour. I restarted the car and it did not have any issue after that. In January 2020, I refueled my car, drove maybe 10 miles and the car started losing power again at a busy stop light in a large highway intersection. This time the car jerked, then I got the same transmission error as the first time. I turned the car off then on, and I was able to limp to my job (same difficult steering and acceleration). Took it to the dealership where they addressed a recall issue (transmission software) and a check engine light (oil pressure sensor). In March 2020, just after refueling the vehicle, it started losing power at a red light. It didn't fully lose power before I made it to my house and had it towed. Now that I've made the connection between refueling and power loss, the dealership has realized that there is a faulty valve or sensor causing gas to leak into places it shouldn't. It looks like it's common issue, and it's honestly very unsafe since the vehicle loses power as you are driving!!!.

Ive had to replace the oil housing filter and light switch and now the shifter light is coming on. This car is a lemon and needs a recall. This is all highway.

After refueling the vehicle, the engine stalls or shuts off without warning. No warning light or check engine light comes on. I almost crashed due to limited braking and loss of power steering. There are hundreds of reports of this issue with Chrysler products after researching it. There need to be a recall.

Car shuts off while driving. Leaving me stuck in middle of road and will not turn on for prolonged period of time.

Vehicle occasionally bogs down and sometimes stalls at various speeds and conditions. Sometimes this will occur several times in a row and sometimes it will go days, even weeks without reoccurring. The Jeep dealer kept car for several days said several test drives found no problem and the diagnostics and onboard computer codes were normal. This is a potentially vary dangerous problem if trying to pull out into traffic on the interstate or trying to pass someone. The problem is reported all throughout the internet but nothing in recalls. All recalls on this VIN have been completed.

I purchased my car on 10/1/19 with 98,000 miles. A few short days later my car started driving horrible. Shaking,bucking, jerking, hesitating to accelerate and shift and my engine light came on while driving, scanned it and was showing p0520 oil pressure sensor. That was replaced. Car was still driving the same and 3 days later while driving my engine light came on again, this time code p06dd. Brought my car to the mechanic where he had it 3 week. My oil pump was replaced with a new oem pump. The very next day while driving my engine light went on again, throwing the same code p06dd. Brought back to the dealer where my car was low 2 quarts of oil. Was told to bring it to Jeep for recall and diagnosis. Jeep has my car for 4 days, completed the recall but was unable to diagnose my car. Upon leaving the Jeep dealer my engine light came back on and now my car was stuck in safe mode and would not go over 60mph. I brought my car back to the dealer where I purchased it. They had my car for two weeks and replaced my engine. I picked my car up on 12/6/19 from the dealer I purchased from, who just replaced my engine. With a new engine, the car is still not driving right. It is still shaking,bucking, jerking, hesitating to accelerate, hesitating to shift out of all gears. I had my tires balanced 2 times. On 1/13/2020 my car while driving on the highway went into safe mode again. Not going over 60mph. This time no engine lights are on. I brought it back to the dealer I purchased from, they hooked up the computer. . Which showed no codes. It took my car out of safe mode but did not fix any of the problems I'm having. Today, 1/21/20 my car went back into safe mode while driving. Will not go over 60mph and there are no lights on the dash showing there is a problem. This car is not safe. I am a single mom with 2 kids and I will not jeopardize mine or their lives in this vehicle.

Vehicle started losing power while stopped at light in traffic, less than a mile down the road while coming to a stop the vehicle started to lunge forward as if I was accelerating then vehicle lost power and engine stopped. Vehicle message stated to �shift to park and than select desired gear. � once vehicle was shifted to park and then to drive the vehicle started to lose power again. While driving the vehicle automatically went into �limp mode� nearly causing an accident. I made the 5 mile journey back home with the vehicle losing power while slowing or lunging while stopping. I am scared to drive the vehicle on the highway as this is almost grantees that there will be an accident. Prior to this day no signs of failing components.

2014 Jeep Cherokee~50k miles: bought brand new from dealership and exclusively dealer maintained. . . A year ago 2 things spontaneously started happening to my Jeep. 1-as I would slow down and come to a stop my car would shut off, stall out. 2-as I was driving my electronic throttle control light, check engine light, and electronic stability control light would start flashing and the Jeep would not run right. I would pull over, turn the car off, reset the engine light and then I would be able to drive until it happened again. Sometimes it would happen after 5 miles of driving, other times I would go over 100 miles without incident. I had approximately 25% remaining on my oil life cycle-last oil change less than 6months/5000 miles. I tested the battery and a few things before I brought it to the dealership. Dealer said my oil level was dangerously low and I need a fuel system cleaning. They did an oil change and fuel cleaning, asked me to come back after driving 1000 miles for an oil consumption test. They said the result of the test was within normal limits. A year later, again around 20% oil life remaining-less than 6 months and less than 5000 miles since last oil change I am getting the same symptoms-all three lights coming on, car stalled on separate occasion. Will be bringing back to dealer this week, however this car has received all oil changes by dealer within the proper time and I take good care of the car- this seems a bit dangerous and should not be happening. It affects my commute to work, child care, time, etc.

The vehicle has a consistent issue of shutting off while driving after refueling. Issue usually occurs within a mile of the gas station. The car will begin stuttering and lunging and will shut off stopped or even at highway speeds. The panel shows a transmission light and engine light and will not function again until after putting it in park, turning off the accessories and restarting the vehicle. The vehicle runs fine after restarting, and will not have the issue again until refueling. The vehicle shutting off on the highway is a very dangerous and nerve-racking experience.

Car literally stops working while driving, locking steering and no power brakes to stop. Has happened twice, while turning both directions. Others online have had it happen while driving straight, and crashed as a result. Jeep dealer blames oil level, transmission, and software, but no fixes have helped. Currently installing new transmission due to horrible shifting. Dealer states oil level can be 1/4" low on the dipstick (within the safe zone) and it can make the car quit running while you are driving 70 mph down the highway! many others have experienced the same issues! this is a dangerous car that must be taken off the road immediately.

Takata recall fill car with gas it will shut off and loose all soeed control and the serbice parking break comes on windshield wipers go you loose power steering lights flash, also car wont go again after you slow down to incomplete stop, also looses acceleration as youre driving with no warning will say to put in park and when you do you eventually loose power steering and you have to try to restart multiple times transmission jumps and jolts when shifting gears at any random time. This all happens very randomly and gets worse any time you put gas in especially filled up all the way have taken to dealer multiple times and they say there is nothing wrong with transmission they cant get it to duplicate issue this has been happening since ive had the car 4 years now and the other issues were supposedly electrical caused by a water bottle under my seat but yet the bottle was removed and im still having problems.

19v-447. We began having this issue last year where we had no idea what the cause of it was. Initially the vehicle would begin jerking while accelerating and continue even at high speeds. This was intermittent and whenever we took the vehicle in for service on this they could not replicate it happening. It began getting worse within a few months and one day last month when my wife was stopped at an intersection when the light turned green she accelerated and lost all power to the transmission causing the vehicle to become disabled in the middle of the intersection. We filed a claim and had our vehicle towed to the Jeep dealership. . The vehicle will suddenly lose all power to the gas and cause the vehicle transmission light to come on. The vehicle blinks that in order to get the Jeep to start up again it must be shifted into park and then it continues to blink the transmission warning. We've been lucky to not have been in an accident yet but this vehicle is unsafe to drive. We were told roughly a month ago when we brought it in for servicing at our local dealership it was flashed and fixed. After researching and finding there was no fix, we were clearly mislead by the repair shop. This happened again 3 days ago where it stopped in the middle of another intersection when my wife was accelerating from a stop and again was disabled in the middle of the intersection. If left for a period of time the Jeep will start with the transmission light on and drive for a short period of time before doing it again.

When driving vehicle will enter what Chrysler/Jeep calls limp mode. Vehicle will slow immediately to 35mph no matter previous speed. Accelerator will not work. Vehicle must be parked and restarted to reset. This happens with no warning. Very dangerous when on interstate highway.

Car stopped without warning in middle of road. Would not start. No warning lights on dash. Answer: low oil level, car just turned engine off. No dash warning for low oil. Happened multiple times. Now: after filling with gas, stopped at light, warning messages "put car in park" then drive. When put in drive, rough and huge thunk. Almost got hit, but was able to pulled over. Called aaa. , waited 45, and he drove it up onto bed to bring to mechanic. No problem. They did an oil change. Drove for days then very rough idle and driving. Each time, I was able to pull over w/o being hit. Now sometimes running sluggish going down road and almost hit again. This car is not even 10 years old, but I've lost count how many close calls my family has had. If you go on any of the Jeep forums, many, many owners are complaining abouts these same issues. Why does the maker of Jeeps fix all these issues on the forums before they build or design new ones?! I have owned a Jeep grand Cherokee(electrical), Jeep commander(rust from bottom up), Jeep compass, now the Jeep Cherokee (by far the worst one). Was a Jeep fan, but I have never run into so many weird issues. Even my mechanic has given up and said bring to dealership. He has 5 different Jeeps all with electrical/unknown issues.

Tl-the contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee sport. The contact stated that while driving the vehicle would not accelerate past 20 mph. An independent mechanic stated that while running a test a code came up indicating that the acceleration pedal assembly had malfunctioned. The contact called a dealer breeden Dodge Chrysler Jeep ram 5900 us-71 bus, fort smith, ar 72908 (479) 646-4731 and they said there were no recalls. The manufacturer stated the same thing that the dealer had said. The failure mileage was 56,444. Tf.

This car continues to turn off while I am driving! today it turned off on me on an intersection! the car jerked, started to shake & then many lights came on. The check engine light, the battery light, the brake light, many more (please see picture attached) I bought the car at carmax. Had the exact same issue in November of 2018, got the car serviced under my extended warranty. Now, 4 months later the same issue happened. In November, they informed me the issue was the car fuel injector & a bad sensor in the transmission. Today's issues is still unknown, as the car has to be sent off for evaluation. But today was a very scary situation for me! I would hate this to happen to anyone with children in the car!.

Purchased used November of 2017. Has a little over 55,000 miles on it. Have noticed that the transmission seems to take longer than it should to shift and sometimes doesn't shift up at all or will shift down or even to neutral sometimes while driving at higher speeds. Also will lose power and then sometimes use a lot of power when not needed, causing the car to jerk or accelerate out of nowhere. Happens very often and has been continually getting worse since I've purchased it. But severely noticed it on my last road trip about 6 weeks ago.
