2 Defogger problem of the 1999 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/20/2012

Since there is no catagory for this issue I had to put visibility/wiper in order to even submit this form. There is no catagory for the heating system which there are a lot of problems!!! the accuator doors regulating the heat to the inside of the vehicle are broken. I thought by replacing the motor which controls them it would fix it. No such luck the doors are broken and not only are they almost impossible to reach without pulling the entire dashboard and console, the cost for it will be around $1500 and that is absurd for a part which is less than $100. The labor will be about $1300 to get to it. What is wrong with these people can't they design a vehicle that can be worked on without taking it apart to a level which makes me want to junk the car!! they should have put something other than plastic to control the heat in the vehicle. Now it is the middle of January in new mexico and it is freezing. Thanks Jeep, I paid a lot of money for this SUV and I'll never buy another amreican car again!! I had to replace the transmission 2 years ago at the tune of $3500. I rarely go on a dirt road let alone drive fast or reckless. A transmission going out at 65,000 is absurd and poor design and manufacturing. This car is nickling and dimeing me to death!!.

6 Defogger problem of the 1996 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/02/2010

I have a 1996 Jeep Cherokee. The heater started making a funny noise so we bought a new blower motor. Then we bought a new resistor. We still could not get the speeds to work in the heater. So we then bought a switch. Well we come to find out that the switch harness was burnt to a crisp. I called the parts store and they don't carry them, so I then called a dealer. The dealer told me they don't just sell that harness I had to buy the entire one for everything in the Jeep. Then told me to go cut one out of a junk yard. I called my local junk yard and the guy went and cut three harnesses out. One that was a 1996, one that was a 1995, and both of the ends were burnt just like mine. He then cut one out of an even older one, and the wires were thicker than the ones on mine, and different colors. I tried hooking it up and it doesn't work. I believe that should be a recall and it should have to be replaced by the company. The company should also sell individual harnesses.

10 Defogger problem of the 2001 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/11/2001

This Jeep has had problems since I first bought it. I questioned the dealer about these problems as they arose. I was made to feel that "all these things" are perfectly natural. This Jeep cannot even back up my driveway without squealing, tires and smoking the tires, no matter how slowly I try to go up it. I do not feel safe in this vehicle and would like Jeep Chrysler to take this vehicle back. I cannot put into 2000 characters all the problems I have had with this vehicle. I have an 11 year old child and thought I was buying reliable transportation. I am very disappointed in the reliablility and the handling of this vehicle. I am afraid to take it on a trip for fear it will quit on me again and strand me in an unsafe place. I have never owned a new vehicle like this before that put the fear of the devil in me like this Jeep does. We live in the northeast and should never have to be stranded or put on hold with Chrysler emergency roadside assistance for 29 minutes. It took me 3 1/2 hours to warm up. I had severe frostbite due to the mechanical failure I had to endure.

12 Defogger problem of the 2001 Jeep Cherokee

Consumer states front rotors continue to warp after (2) replacements. When ever the truck hits a bump while traveling 50 mph or above will shake violently. Owner is concerned about controlling the truck when this happens. Also the upper and lower ball joint was loose which was causing the steering wheel to shake, the transfer case was loose, the gasket and thermostat was replaced due to a coolant leak, cruise control was inoperative, the air condition and heater only blows at defrost vents, the rear luggage rail came out.

14 Defogger problem of the 1999 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/01/1999

Sunroof: in the full open position, between 30 & 50mph, with the side windows up, or partially open, a horriffic vibration is felt in the "cabin" which is irritating to the ears, vocal chords, is so bad, that the radio speakers seem like they are ready to break. Dealer refuses to arrange a meeting with Chrysler rep to discuss the problem, which I feel is attributed to a bad design, which Jeep is calling "wind buffeting" in the owners manual, indicating they know there is this problem. The starter failed, and rocking the vehicle to a better spot on the starter allowed it to start, but vehicle is still sluggish starting at times, seeming as though the batter is weak. Jeep will not replace starter until a total failure. Brakes. . Bad vibration due to apparent warped rotors. These are being replaced on warranty without dispute, indicating that Chrysler knows there is a problem with the rotors. This vehicle seems to be the "lemon of the fleet" only giving a maximum of 14. 5mpg, highway, and less in city only, and does not idle smooth.

15 Defogger problem of the 1998 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/29/1999

Air bag illuminates while driving for 15-25 seconds, vehicle is going on the fourth time for service, defroster noise made when control know adjusted, found to be definately not working during a freezing rain storm, having to stop a few times on my way to work to scrap the windows. This has been an ongoing defect with this new vehicle since first happening in Nov. 1998, each time the vehicle goes in for service and getting it back the light will come back on from two weeks - one month of having back. Absolutely getting no help, concerns, answers, return phone calls, I could go on forever, most importantly about the air bag saftey concern. No one seems real concerned that death could possible occur when operating this vehicle. I have got the run around from the beginning concerning the air bag and my persistance is my only hope. I have made phone call after phone call to dealerships, Chrysler customer service center, NHTSA, attorney general's office, and safety departs. I am currently waiting for the vehicle to go back to the dealer at least five days after notification.
