1 Wiper problem of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/09/2026

The rear defroster or related electrical wiring in the rear glass/liftgate area appears to have malfunctioned and shorted, causing a fire while the vehicle was parked, turned off, and unattended. The fire resulted in the rear glass shattering/blowing out. The incident was recorded on a residential security camera. This posed a significant safety risk because the fire started while the vehicle was off, creating danger to occupants, bystanders, nearby vehicles, and surrounding property. There were no prior warning indicators, messages, or symptoms known before the failure. A dealership has inspected the vehicle and provided a repair estimate consistent with failure in the rear defroster/rear glass area. The vehicle and damaged components should be available for inspection. Based on the observed damage and location of the fire, this appears to be an electrical short involving the rear defroster system or related wiring.

2 Wiper problem of the 2022 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/14/2025

7 Wiper problem of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/06/2023

Turn into our street, windshield whippers came on. Fuse blown, take out still stay on. Kept changing them, fuse kept blowning. Replace mod with turn single, wheel part. Pic sent. Worked two weeks, did it again. Now they are saying it's the radio is pulling to much, relay needs to be replace the radio. Which mileage, radio, back up camera, whatever else is connected together causing the problem. This safety problem because back up could hit someone or something, whippers just coming on scared, hurting window, windshield whippers it self if dry out. This should be recall and concern. I don't understand why this not. Jow it's taken so long figure out problems at car place. They took the SUV apart still cant figure problem out. Thank you carolyn odom.

8 Wiper problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/04/2023

Car has broken down multiple times. Most recent issue: 1car stalled while trying to make a left turn on highway, would not drive forward -dashboard sign said to put car in park -when trying to put it in drive it went into neutral and rolled back -car would not turn off, kept running when we tried to turn it on and off -“battery voltage low”warning signal came on -engine warning signal came on -got it to drive again after a few minutes and parked the car -tried driving it home, same thing happened all over again when were at a light after about 5 minutes -went to parking lot, hood of car was burning hot.

9 Wiper problem of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/26/2023

The infotainment screen flashes a warning on red screen "911 car phone malfunction contact dealer". It has done this intermitently for the past couple of weeks. A few times I've started the vehicle and the screen is black, no back up camera, no a/c, no back up warning tone (I back up the vehicle from parking spot using the mirrors and the screen comes on a few minutes after vehicle is moving). I am concerned because I don't know what else isn't working and if something electrical will fail while driving. A couple of weeks ago I made an appt with the local Jeep dealer and today was told I need a new radio at the cost of at least $1250 (the dealer has ordered a new radio could take a couple days to a few weeks he wasn't sure). When researching this problem online I saw numerous compaints similar to mine but I don't know if anyone has reported the issue to the NHTSA because the dealer states its a bad "radio" . . . But if the 'radio' controls the backup camera, the climate controls and other functions on the screen it seems like more than just a radio problem to me. The vehicle has 55,000 miles so the screen hasn't been used excessively like a vehicle used for long distance daily commutes.

10 Wiper problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/13/2023

The engine lifters are tapping, the wiper switch goes out and the windshield wipers stays on and will not turn off and signal light’s doesn’t work neither the cruise controls, the transmission gears gets stuck in between gears and jerk off really fast.

11 Wiper problem of the 2019 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/15/2023

I find it very interesting that no one ever called me and you have closed my case . I wrote to you & told you the dealer on st. Thomas did not do windshields , carribbean auto mart zip code 00802. I purchased my car at arrigo in wpb , FL 33411 . I recently relocated to stt and shipped my car here. A 12 inch dead branch (which I have kept) hit my windshield and caused this damage on the inside and out. Obviously , the windshield was faulty or this serious damage would not have occurred, causing glass chards to come inside the vehicle. I have received no assistance from you have spoken to numerous outsourced customer service agents that I could not hear because of the chickens in the background and now you have closed my case. I was without a car for 3 weeks as the windshield was unstable and I could not drive the car as it was unsafe . I had to order a windshield and have it shipped here and installed. I would like to be compensated for my windshield and would like the address of your safety engineers to send the stick to them . Had it hit on the drivers side I would have been injured. Thank you, camille harris.

12 Wiper problem of the 2016 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/27/2022

The right side visor came loose, not being able to hold any position, hanging to be a distraction and impeding view. The issue seems to be a plastic component of the swivel joint broke just above where it's reinforced by metal. I assume both sides have similar construction/design, at risk of this mode of failure. A quick internet search leads me to believe this is common, with others indicating the breaking at the same place. Although this may be considered a convenience item, the function of shading sun, and its place within the field of view, makes it a safety concern.

13 Wiper problem of the 2020 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/02/2022

I was driving to work this morning at 5:30am in the rain, heavy rain, so I had my wipers on. They were turned to high because of how heavy the rain was. All of a sudden the wipers went crazy and the drivers side wiper was hanging off the side of the car still trying to wipe. I immediately lost visibility and tried to move off the highway. I was struggling to see where the road was. I ended up off pavement at one point and I believe that's where I picked up the screw in my tire that made my tire go flat. I was luckily near an exit, but now leaning into the passenger side of the car trying to see and find a safe place to get off the road. This could've gone very badly I was lucky and blessed it did not. I took my Jeep to the service department at the dealership where the gentleman helping stated he's seen this a lot. He said there hasn't been a recall on the Cherokee only the truck, but he's seen it happening in a lot of vehicles. Evidently the screws come loose. If this is a common problem there needs to be a recall.

14 Wiper problem of the 2016 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/04/2022

While I was at a stand still at a railroad crossing, the rear windshield shattered independently without impact. I did not see any warning lights prior to the incident. I had called the police department and filed a police report as I did not know what happened at the time. No one was injured nor needed medical attention. I was able to drive the 2 minutes home. I had hired an independent mechanic, safelite, to come to my house and fix the windshield. As he was fixing it he made me aware that my rear defroster on the windshield had overheated and burned the cables which had caused the failure. My grandfather contacted the local dealership and made them aware of the failure. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure.

15 Wiper problem of the 2016 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/27/2021

Unable to pump window fluid onto window, to remove road oil from window, do to the window washer fluid reservoir, that has separated along the seam, at the bottom of the reservoir. I strongly believe this is a defect, since there was no accident, or anything else, to cause it to separated at the seam, at the bottom of the reservoir. This is a major safety issue, when getting hit with very dirty/oily water and unable to immediately clean/clear the windshield, do to the window washer fluid reservoir separating at the bottom, right at the seam. I strongly believe this is a defect, for it's young age.

16 Wiper problem of the 2016 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/09/2021

I bought my 2016 Jeep Cherokee brand new in February 2016. The wipers quit working during a heavy rain storm in myrtle beach. You turn the switch and they wouldn't turn on. The next day, they worked. Once again I needed them in another rain storm, and they didn't work. I live on the coast of nc and it rains often. Took to dealership, couldn't find a problem. Took again a week later, they replaced the bcm which was over $500. 6-8 months later the problem started again. Same thing happened during a rain storm. Dealership replaced bcm once again. Then less than a year later, happens again. Took to dealership again and they said a wire had shorted out on bcm. A wire was replaced. Once again 8 months or so later, happens again in July 2020, replaced yet another bcm. Now in April of 2021, today, it's happening again and I'm driving from florida back to nc on highway 95. Going through a rain storm and wipers not working. This has been very dangerous and very frustrating. If I make it, I'll be taking it again to dealership on Monday. I have all documentation every time this has happened, and video proof. If I could get rid of this car I would but I cant. Submitted a picture of driving in rain on 95 and wiper switch is set to high.

17 Wiper problem of the 2020 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/20/2021

In less than a year we have had to replace the windshield 2 times already. Both using oem replacements the first from an extremely light impact of the wiper being put down from the standing up position after cleaning the windows the second for now known reason. There is no impact marks just a crack going across the bottom of the windshield. When contacting auto glass replacement centers we were told this is a very common issue on Cherokees since the glass is so thin now. Both times the cracks spread across the bottom of the windshield making us think that maybe the heat or the heated wipers are causing part of the problem(we live in ri so heat in the car is used often for over half the year).

18 Wiper problem of the 2016 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/12/2021

Within 7 months of buying this car from a dealership, the 4wd says unavailable, the wiper sprayer broke while I was driving and I had to pull over because I couldn't spray my window on a snow-melting, messy day. Then the driver's side wiper broke while driving in torrent rains where I almost got run over by a semi-truck on the highway for having to pull over. The mud flaps continue to rip causing mud and ice to build up behind the tires. In 15-below weather, I went to start my car to go to work and when I turned the heat higher than 4 (out of 7), it made a loud, vibrating sound until I turned it back down, so I was very cold all the way to work. The next day it worked fine. The day after that, I went out to start my car again to go to work, it was 15-below still, and I had no heater blower at all. I had no heat. I could not drive due to that, had to have my car towed to a shop, and ended up calling in sick at work, which jeopardized my brand new employee status.

21 Wiper problem of the 2019 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/06/2020

It started raining yesterday and when the wipers were turned on the drivers side went across like someone bent it ripped it off. We stopped at a gas station to fix it long enough to get to a oreillys and had the blades replaced. Luckily it stopped raining and we made it home safely. Problem today is that the issue is still there and we can't get the vehicle looked at until Wednesday. Praying that it will get fixed without any other issues. We only have 26k miles even though it was used from carmax it appeared to be it decent condition. I never expected anything like that to happen and I am glad we did not have an accident.

The windshield wipers have randomly come on without being turned on and as of today will not turn off completely. They can be slowed to an intermittent position or run at full speed but will not turn off. This began to happen only while driving the vehicle, now they are on weather driving or in park, and only stop when the vehicle in turned off.

26 Wiper problem of the 2017 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/01/2020

The shifter does not shift the gears correctly not communicating to the engine all lights are red on shifter gear making it unsafe to drive. The windshield wiper hose was never added to passengers side making visibility hard in slush or winter weather with only the driver side hose hooked up it doesn't clear the windshield properly.

27 Wiper problem of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/01/2019

Car will turn off. Turn the key and pull it out, car stays running. When this happens, car is in a possessed state where brake lights stay on at all times, turn signals do not work, wipers do not work, horn does not work. Took it to dealership and was told there are no codes, so nothing they can do. Pull the battery cable off to shut the car down. This will happen mid drive so all of a sudden you'll lose your turn signals, wipers, horn, brake lights, door locks, and main light control. When you pull over, only way to turn the car off is to pull the battery cable.

28 Wiper problem of the 2016 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/18/2019

In my Cherokee the service shifter indicator came on. All the positions on the shifter lite up (p,r,d and the + -) this appears to be a problem with this model. I looked at several other comments on line. I was leaving a drive in and when I put it in reverse everything turned red and the service shifter illuminated in my message center. I was able to make it home. When I got home I turned the vehicle off. When I turned it back on everything was back to normal. I had a issue right after I bought the vehicle. It was stuck in park and had to be towed back to the dealership. I believe the mileage was around 2000 miles. I currently have approximately 83000 mile on the vehicle.

29 Wiper problem of the 2017 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/17/2019

The far-left backup sensor just fell out at some point, unknown if the car was stationary or in motion. There are no scratches or damage around the bumper that I can see which would indicate it having been knocked loose or pried out.

31 Wiper problem of the 2019 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/23/2019

The problem is a smudge on the drivers side at eye level when the wipers returned to the original position. We replaced the wipers first with the most expensive we could find and that did not fix the issue so that is when the dealership benny boyd of lampasis replaced the windshield under warranty. This did not fix the problem but it did became worse with the new windshield and now there were streaks, so we brought it back and they replaced the expensive wipers with oem wipers and still it did the same. We were advised by our service manager christopher weir to call Chrysler @ 800-992-1997 and start a star case, the case number is or was 58366091. The case opened and supposedly looked into by some engineers per the conversation of the case manager @ Chrysler. The response we received back from the case manger was that it was the characteristic for this vehicle????? I am providing a url for the Jeep forum with other customers with the same complaint. Visibility distorted in rainy conditions due to insufficient windshield wipers and or coating on glass. Visibility directly in front of me when driving gets distorted with minimal rainfall causing a dangerous driving condition. Using no windshield wipers is better than having them on.
