The Jeep window regulator is a known issue and mine has broke twice in one week. I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee and it is in the shop to have the third window regulator installed. This is a constant issue with Jeeps and should have a recall issued and fix the problem. Have been to several question and answer sites on the internet and Jeep will not acknowledge there is a problem.

As my husband and I were on our way to a relatives last weekend, the passenger side window lowered on it's own. I tried to roll it up with the drivers control, and my husband tried with the passenger control ( which has never worked well) but the window just continued to go down. I had my son look at it and he took everything off including door panel, and speakers, but he was not familiar with Jeep windows and could not determine how to fix it. In the meantime, I have checked out some websites on this problem and found out that this is an ongoing problem with Jeeps. Now it is going to cost me between $250. 00 and $600. 00 to repair . Please do something about this so no one else will have such an unexpected expense.

2/14/2007: automatic windows malfunctioning. Passenger window rolls up then half way down. Drivers window not automatic in either direction. It appears, the dealer has finally fixed the problem, on 4/14/2008 after numerous attempts. Vehicle with dealer 23 days 8/31/07-9/22/07.
2/14/2007: automatic windows malfunctioning. Passenger window rolls up then half way down. Drivers window not automatic in either direction. It appears, the dealer has finally fixed the problem, on 4/14/2008 after numerous attempts. Rear passenger brake rotor worn severely. Brakes making terrible noise. Dealer refused to fix, said it's not a warranty item. Low tire pressure light comes on frequently. Claims we must have a leak in tire. Continues to do the same thing today 4/2008. Vibration, like an engine miss at idle. Dealer could not duplicate problem, not repaired. Ebs light flashes at random times on dry, flat, straight roads at various speeds. Dealer could not duplicate problem no repairs made.
During operation of vehicle at highway speed at approximately 65 mph the power windows acted erratically, and subsequently dropped into the door. Drivers side window was open. Took to vehicle a mechanic, where consumer was told that both motors were faulty/corroded, and poorly designed. They needed to be replaced. Both motors were replaced for over $500. 00 this was a fairly new vehicle. Owner felt this should not had happened. Owner was concerned that this occurred at high speed. No problems with windows since motors were replaced.
I purchased the 1998 Jeep brand new from the dealer (6/22/98). On approximately 2/22/01 the regulator that operates the left front (driver's side) power window failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer performed this and since the vehicle was still under warranty, there was no charge. Now on 1/26/05 the regulator on the right front power window also failed. I took it to my local mechanic who replaced this regulator and I was charged $407. 40 for this. It is my contention that this reflects an obvious vehicle part defect. For both to fail completely out of the blue seems to indicate a defective part rather than normal wear and tear. I have a 1989 olds that my father purchased new, and we have never had to replace any parts of the power window units. I request that daimler-Chrysler reimburse me for the cost of $407. 40 for the second incident.

Both front power windows failed within 6 weeks of each other. The windows fell into the doors without warning. The first was fixed with the replacement of the worm gear drive and regulator assembly, the 2nd just occurred yesterday but is the same repair.
Both front door windows do not operate up and down due to the cheap plastic peice that hold the window on the track, poor quality . Nothing was done by danbury Dodge in conn.
While driving rear left side window suddenly dropped down into the door. This past Saturday the right side window dropped down. Both front power windows' regulator assembly and steel cable broke. Dealer replaced front window regulator, but the replacement parts are identical to the old one which concerned the consumer that all windows might drop at the same time without warning.
The driver side and passenger side windows slid down into the door. There was popping noise prior to the incident. This was caused by a plastic part in the door regulator breaking.
Door and windshield wont work properly. Dealer stated the need to replace the electrical harness. Vehicle's warranty expired.
While driving, passenger side window completely fell into door. Power window motor still appeared to work, but the window wouldn't rise. Brought to dealership for repair and was notified that regulator was broken and needed to be replaced.
The motor on the power window failed.
Power window mechanism failed, presenting a safety issue by immobilizing the window. Upon inspection, it was revealed that Jeep has re-designed the mechanism by replacing a failure prone plastic component with a metal component. However, no recall or notice was given to owners of vehicles with the failure prone parts, and Jeep also charges for the re-designed replacement assembly. I believe this component is especially likely to fail during an accident, especially a rollover type of accident, where the window assembly would be subjected to a sudden downward force. I have digital pictures of the old and revised components and can email them if desired. I also have retained a failed original component. I know that this is a common failure on Jeep Cherokees.
About a year ago both of my front power windows quit working on my 2000 Jeep Cherokee sport within weeks of each other. I have talked about this with several other people who own Cherokees and they too have had the same problem. My concern is that if I were were in an accident that forced my car to be submerged in a body of water I would have to wait until the entire cabin filled with water before I could attempt any escape. My mother who owns a Nissan xterra also had the same problem but last month Nissan issued a recall and all 4 of her windows were replaced.
Plastic clip on window regulator failed while vehicle in motion. Window fell into door & startled driver at highway speed almost causing accident. New unit from dealer has been redesigned w/ metal component but no recall on obvious problem/safety defect.
Consumer stated that while driving at any speed and without warning the front or rear windows would fail and stick in the seal causing a distraction to the consumer. Dealer notified. Ts.
While in motion, the drivers side window suddenly dropped into the door. The regualtor had worn and broke. Ts.
Driver's power window makes a loud grinding noise when engaged. Consumer fears that window may shatter.
Both driver and passenger front window glass has unexpectedly fallen into door. Was advised by dealer that this was a rare occurrence and they have fixed one side under warranty and the other will be repaired next week. Both occurrences occured at speed and suddenly. Was advised that the windows are held by plastic clips that failed. This is very dangerous and an obvious problem that should be recalled and replaced with proper fasteners for an SUV type vehicle.
Don't buy a Jeep! piece of junk. Since I have owned mine the following has broke radiator, seat track, power window motor, brakes, blowout, transmission, headlight covers dulled, multiple rear light outages, inside lights out.
Window regulators---driver's window fell in the driver's door while vehicle was parked & unoccupied--metal gear had worn the plastic teeth down causing the window to fall into the door---the passenger front window fell at result of the window regulator also failed for the same reason.
Power assisted windows failed and needed to be replaced for driver and passenger side doors. Dealership has replaced regulator for the power windows. Please provide any additional information/attachments.
On 2 occasions power operated windows, front and rear power windows on drivers side failed to operate properly by going up or down. Dealership has not examined vehicle and a private mechanic was replacing unknown components of power window system.

When brakes are applied vehicle vibrates. Dealer had surfaced front and rear rotors, but problem has reoccurred. Humming noise from steering when making sharp left turns. Front window skips when putting window down with auto, dealer lubed window tracks.
While driving down highway, drivers side front window lowered completely on its own. Window motor still works, but will not raise that window or lower it.
Power windows stop working, this time everything on the driver's door not working (windows, locks, rear view mirror adjustment); this is the third time, has gone back and forth between passenger side and driver side.
Drivers side power window cable broke.
The design of the power window regulator motor assembly appears to be flawed. There is a small plastic "clip" that is heat melted to the nylon movement assembly during manufacturing. This clip receives a great deal of stress during window operation and is doomed to fail from the beginning. When the clip fails, the window will "unexpectantly" drop into the door often resulting in broken or damaged glass. This could result in an accident if a driver is not prepared for this failure.
Vehicle is experiencing problems with the electrical system and wiring harness. Consumer has purchased vehicle a week ago, and within 4 days vehicle was taken to dealer. Dealer has since kept vehicle with no remedy. Periodically, the power windows did not work. Airbag light would come on and off, and air conditioner would not work. Also, vehicle had a gas fume smell after vehicle would not start.
Driver's and passenger's windows intermittently were dropping off the track while traveling. Dealer was notified and repaired passenger's side. Later on, problem reoccurred on driver's side. Dealer notified, and appointment given.
The window regulators in both the front windows of my 1999 Jeep Cherokee have failed, and I have been unable to find replacements. No auto parts stores have them- they are all on back order indefinitely, no used parts dealers have any- too high of a demand, I have also exhaustively searched online for the parts with no luck . So I am unable to have my vehicle inspected due to lack of parts.
