37 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2013

While driving up hill (just autosticked to 3rd) Jeep Commander stalled. Had to slowly back down curve on hill to safe point. Engine light came on and vehicle would not restart. Called for tow and waited. Truck started after 10 minutes and drove to dealership in stafford connecticut. Vehicle stayed there for 3 weeks ultimately ending with no findings. With 79000 miles I am afraid this will happen again without notice. Dealer saw engine codes initially but could not duplicate issue after codes disappeared. Dealer refused to change anything without code verification. This is a known problem with Commanders pre/post years-wondering what is going on in terms of recall?.

41 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 03/19/2013

My Jeep has been stalling out at random times while driving. Today it stalled twice while moving. It always starts right back up with no warning lights. Most of the times it stalls sitting at a light. Once it stalled going 65mph on the highway and started right back up by its self. The other day it stalled and it started back up then a few miles down the road the information center beeped and had a warning saying check gauges. The temperature gauge was on cold and it should have been in the middle (normal) because I had been driving for a little bit. I drove it to work and called the Jeep dealership to schedule an appointment for after work that day. At the end of the day when I started it up to take it to the dealership the warning "check gauges" was gone. I told the service rep at the dealership what had happened and that its been stalling out. They called the next day and said they couldn't find anything wrong. I drive the car everyday and there is some very wrong with the car. I don't feel safe driving my children in it and we don't take it on the highway now. I wouldn't feel right trading it in and giving someone else the death trap. Besides the concern for my families safety, I'm wondering if an accident was caused because my car stalled out how would I be able to prove that it was because the car stalled when the dealership is saying there's nothing wrong. Please look into this issue because Chrysler seems to not be concerned.

46 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2012

My 2007 Jeep Commander vehicle had problems with idling and stalling, car would cutoff while driving between 35-60 miles and as well during idling. This had been an on going problem since 2010 though 2012 and then some time before. I officially for the record file this complaint understanding that many Jeep owners had this same problem many times over although the Chrysler corporation never did a recall regarding this problem pertaining to 2006-2008 Jeep vehicles which was and is such a disservice to the consumers.

48 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2012

2007 Jeep Commander limited 5. 7l hemi stalled again while driving. This time, my daughter was pulling into the driveway when it stalled and she had no control over the brakes or steering because they don't work when the vehicle stalls. She just about drove through the garage door. This is a major safety issue and must be addressed before someone gets hurt or even worse, killed. I took it to the Jeep dealership and they updated the pcm, but as soon as I left it stalled again, so I took it back and they replaced an ignition coil. As soon as I pulled off the highway on my way home, it stalled again. They want to replace all of the ignition coils which will cost about $550, and they claim this may fix the issue. I don't understand how Jeep doesn't know how to fix this issue. There are thousands of Jeep owners that are experiencing the same issue with no fix. That's all we want is a solution to the problem before someone dies.

49 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2012

On multiple occasions our 2007 Jeep Commander with 5. 7 liter v8 has stalled without warning. It has happened at idle, while slowing, while accelerating, and while driving at freeway speeds (60-70 mph). Each time it has restarted after taking the transmisison out of gear, turning the key to the off position, and restarting the engine. This is potentially very dangerous if it happens under the wrong circumstances since you, of course, unexpectedly lose power assist on both brakes and steering when the engine dies. The dealer claimed to have fixed it once, but it continued to stall. It has now been at the dealership for 3 weeks and neither they nor the Chrysler engineers they have consulted claim to have any idea what is Chrysler needs to make this right.

50 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2012

Jeep Commander stalls randomly while driving. This is the 5th time in less than a week. When the vehicle stalls, the steering locks up and the car has to be put into park in order to restart it, and is difficult to restart when this happens. This is a major safety issue because the car is moving when it stalls.

52 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2012

About three years ago, my 2007 Jeep Commander 4x4, 4. 7l, limited, inexplicably stalled while I was driving on the freeway at about 60 miles per hour. Since that first stalling episode, this has occurred at least 30 more times. It happens in the city, the freeway, during acceleration, and under normal driving conditions. I have brought this vehicle to the Jeep dealer on numerous occasions. Each time, they tell me they can't duplicate the problem. Furthermore, they tell me that this is an isolated problem that they haven't heard about before. A simple internet search shows that this is a widely reported problem and owners report the same explanations from the dealerships.

56 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2012

Jeep just simply stalls. In several occasions coming to a light or stop sign. The Jeep would just die. I would have to restart. The rpm gauge would abruptly start moving erratically up and down a few thousands of rpm gauge would move and the engine would act like a rough running engine would and just stop. This has happened several times over the course of the past 5 years. I have complained several times when I take it in for oil changes. They never can do anything about it.

As of June 8th 2011 I bought my Jeep used with approximately 42000 miles on it soon after it started having filling issues then for a while the issue ceased now about a month before date of stall listed above it started with the same filling issues except worse now causing it to not want to shift into gears as normal car would, kinda jerking in between shifts from different speeds and rpm increase and decrease. It has stalled on me twice now. The first time on the interstate at 70 mph with my 3 kids and pregnant wife in the car causing all power functions to be lost and we almost got ran over by a transfer truck trying to get to the shoulder of the road. I had it look at and the throttle body and intake cleaned of carbon deposited and now today June 12th 2012 it stalled again getting off the interstate heading to my work. Still filling high and low and stalling and jerking between the natural shifting of the transmission.

65 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2012

On at least 4 occasions my Jeep has stalled (not sure of dates). It has happened mainly when I try to start moving from a stop. It has not stalled while driving at high speeds. I just thought it was an air lock or bad gas but after reading the many complaints and dangerous situations I see it must be the ignition switch problem. I have not been notified by Chrysler I just found out about it when my Jeep was in for repairs on another problem. I research this then called the dealer and he said yes there is a problem but they do not have the parts just wait till they come in then Chrysler will send me a notice. They have known about this for years. Is this going to be another gm type situation with people killed. Lets get the parts and fix them.
