84 problems related to engine and engine cooling have been reported for the 2007 Jeep Commander. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2007 Jeep Commander based on all problems reported for the 2007 Commander.
Vehicle failed to start. All lights, gauges, etc. Were operational. Failed to engage starter. Towed to repair facility. Vehicle was diagnosed with a faulty power control module. Repair shop reported that due to numerous issues with the module across the county, the replacement part is currently not available and may take up to a week or longer before the part is available. Apparently, this is a common fault in these vehicles and renders our vehicle inoperable for an unacceptable length of time.
Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. The contact received a recall notification however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Ad.
I drove 2 miles away from my house and parked and turned off the car. 2 hours later I went to turn on the car to go back to home and it wouldn't start. On the dash it said transmission over temp. After I kept trying for a few minutes it finally turned on. I got home and turned it off. After a hour I tried again and again it wouldn't turn on. Kept trying it turned on, I went to auto zone to get it checked and starter, engine and alternater great. Called several mechanics and they couldn't tell me anything, they'd never heard of it. Online there's hundreds of people with the same problem. Jeeps already loosing a bunch of customers, I don't want to be one of them. I love my Jeep so please figure out what the problem is. Thanks.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. While driving 65 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and the steering became difficult to operate. The vehicle was turned off and restarted, and the vehicle operated as intended. The dealer diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure with the steering. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 98,000.
My Jeep has been giving me problems. I drove it to birmingham, ala for 3 trips and the gas mileage declined each time ( 19-17-13) mile to the gallon. The Jeep also started shaking and trying to stop, especially when stopped at a red light and standing still. I took the Jeep to chris myers in daphne, al to see what the problem was. I left it for 2 days and gave them complaints of smelling gas when starting the engine, shaking at idle, and low gas mileage. They did the diagnostic check and found multiple cyl misfire. Found spark plugs fouled and trash in the fuel rail. They replaced spark plugs & cleaned fuel rail. It was $607. 12. I drove the Jeep home and several days later it did the same thing, stopping when at regular speed almost having an accident. I called the manager he stated to bring it back & would recheck it, but I would have to pay for repairs. He also stated it was the fuel I was using, I have a truck which uses the same gas & have no problem with it. Could they not find the problem . I did not take it back because they were rude and I live 30 miles from the dealer. I did not feel safe driving the Jeep. The engine light came on and I took the Jeep to a local auto mechanic & after the test he found 2 of the O2 sensors were clogged, probably from the fuel line being cleaned. He repaired this, the Jeep still ran poorly and stopping when at idle speed. He checked the computer and found it was not working properly. He kept the Jeep for about a week and told me he would not let it go because he felt it was unsafe to drive, until all was properly working . I think I was ripped off by the first job since it was not working properly wen the first job was done. I think I should have a refund on the first job. I did not have a warranty because when the extended warranty ran I called chris myers 3-4 times and did not get call back from them.
The car stops when it wants rather if I'm in traffic, stop sign, red light, or interstate. . The wheel and the brakes will lock up. I've been calling Chrysler the 1800 number and local dealerships such as picayune ms and slidell la about the situation but nobody seems to care!!! they said the parts isn't in and that its the ignition switch so I payed out of my pockets for the ignition switch and got it put on with the money that I didn't have to spare but obviously that wasn't the problem. . Now my car engine is making raggling and tractor noises. Barely want to start. . Basically I don't have transportation to or from work and school for the fall!!!!!!!!! thanks a lot Chrysler. . .
While driving on the highway at approximately 60 mph, Jeep engine and all electrical and power systems shutoff for a second and turned back on. This happened a second time a few minutes later going the same speed. Very dangerous while driving on i75 through cincinnati with a lot of traffic.
This is the 4th time that the car has shut off while driving and cannot move the steering wheel to pull over to the side of the road. The big rig truck behind us almost crashed into the car due to the engine shutting off while we are traveling with the flow of traffic. With the engine shutting off, the steering wheel is locked making it impossible to get out of the way of other vehicles. The car eventually reduces speed down to a halt. I have to place the Jeep in park and restart the ignition. The truck driver was yelling profanities out the window, telling me to learn how to drive and showing obscene gestures while I have two children in the car with me. I am scared to drive this vehicle because I do not know when it will shut down on me again. The only advice I get from Chrysler is to not have any other keys on the ring and to not have my knee hit the ignition key while driving.
On the way home from work one night my engine light came on. We took it to our mechanic the next day and had it checked. We were told it was the knock sensor causing the warning. He had to order the parts to replace the sensors. After they were replaced it was just fine for about three weeks. The check engine came back on again. Took back to our mechanic he said they were bad and replaced them again. The first two were sets from auto parts suppliers but when the second part failed he ordered a set from the Jeep dealer. Well they failed. He has been in contact with the Jeep dealer trying to figure out what is wrong. According to them they have never had a problem with the knock sensor. I find that hard to believe. My mechanic is at his wits end about it. He contacted the dealer about the cost to have them check them out. They told him just to scan the computer was $94. 00 a half hour and to run a complete test would be $100. 00 a hour and take maybe two to three hours. I can't believe we have the only Jeep Commander that has this problem.
I received notification from Chrysler awhile back that a defect on my vehicle has been identified. It was a case opened in June, 2014 by NHTSA for pe14017. Chrysler said no solution had been identified at the time they sent the letter but the local distributor would remedy the defect without charge within a reasonable time. The local dealer has not heard anything from Chrysler. I don't know what "reasonable time" means but wanted to ask you how long you think I should need to wait before a solution to correct the problem which Chrysler says "may experience unintended change in ignition switch position while driving which may result in loss of engine power, power steering, and braking assist increasing the risk of a crash and disabling one or more of the vehicle's safety features including the frontal airbags. " thank you.
The engine turned over several times but would not start. Had car towed to my mechanic. Valve six of the hemi engine (5. 7 liter) was destroyed beyond repair due to a loosened valve seat. Had to have engine replaced at a cost of about $7500. 00.
I am 74 years of age and at the time of my husband's death four years ago purchased a 2007 Chrysler Jeep Commander which now has 53,815 miles. I began experiencing problems with unexpected complete loss of power on both interstate highways and residential streets over the last year. These occurrences have increased in frequency at varying times when driving within the last six months, and most terrifying on the interstate where I was faced with the realization of deceleration and cutoff at the speed limit of 55 mph. I received a safety recall notice (p41/nhtsa14v-38), round or about April 2, 2015 from Chrysler group llc informing me of the vehicular problems described I am experiencing, Chrysler group's recall notice makes a clear and specific representation that repairs would performed to correct the vehicle's defects free of charge when it is returned to the dealership. Accordingly, southfield Chrysler was contacted to schedule an appointment to diagnose the problem and ordered parts on or about April 6, 2015. I have been waiting for the part(s) for nearly three weeks. On on April 24, 2015 I again contacted southfield Chrysler after the vehicle hesitated to accelerate and was informed the manufacturer: "Chrysler either will not, or has not, sent the parts need to fix the problem," contrary to the language of the notice. Southfield Chrysler will not perform repairs without payment for the parts. Southfield Chrysler has taken the position: "if I pay for repairs the manufacturer will reimburse me," which continues to leave me subjected to injure and/or death. I do not have the available funds to pay for repairs, relative to living on a fixed income and specific and very limited budget. It is clear to me that the manufacture and dealership will not perform responsibly to address a serious life and death that they are clearly aware exist. A complaint is proper.
Transmission over temp. Car starts no problem. Some smoke from under vehicle.
While traveling on the highway the vehicle, loses power and shuts off. Have to move over to breakdown lane shut key off and restart vehicle. Notified dealer was told to call Chrysler. Call Chrysler was told there was a recall but parts not available. Was told to not drive vehicle, but cant finish paying for vehicle if I cant get to work to pay for it. !!!!!!! it happens on a daily basis. . .
Vehicle keeps loosing power shifts into n state, pdrn are highlighted with boxes and you have to wiggle shifter to regain power. Message "service park assist". Not sure if this is the same issue that the latest recall (13v175000) listed is however, my Jeep doesn't seem to fall in the manufactured date range so I am making a formal complaint since this is kind of low miles to have this kind of an issue with this vehicle and it is happening with my manufactured date vehicle.
The ignition switch position makes unintended position changes while driving. This has happened on several occasions and has resulted in two near-miss accidents. Additionally, on occasion, the switch won't allow the car to start, and all power is dead despite a new battery. We have been dealing with this issue for a long time. Received recall notice in sept 2014, but Chrysler contends that that part is still not available, and that the car is safe to drive. This car is not safe to drive! I have called Chrysler group recall assistance center at 1-800-853-1403 multiple times and have waited for an hour on a couple of occasions without a pick up. This is also not acceptable. Please help!.
After taking the Jeep Commander in to a dealer ship to get recall NHTSA campaign number 13v175000 fixed the vehicle has been wanting to turn off at random. It has happened while in park or even driving the vehicle. The 1st time it happen, I was acccelerating while getting on the high way and I was going about 40mph and the engine lossed all power and it was hard to steer. It lasted about 4sec and then stopped. The next time it happen was going down the high way about 65mph with the cruise on and it did the same thing and the last time it did it the vehicle was parked. Eash time it happens it only last about 4-5 secs. It just started doing it right after the dealer ship reprogramed the ecm to fix the recall.
I was beginning to accelerate out of a right turn and noticed that I was not picking up speed and the car started to shake. I tried to speed up to the flow of traffic and the accelerator was not working and the steering wheel kept shaking and had to pull over to the side of the road. I noticed that all the gears on the dash were lit up, from park to drive and everything in between. I decided to shut off the engine and start it again. The car was fine but did it again on 2 separate occasions. Thank goodness I was not on the freeway and there was not a lot of traffic.
I have had to return this car several times. To many times to be exact.
Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle in the rain the engine would suddenly shut off. In addition, when the engine was idling the rpm's would erroniously increase to 2200 without the throttle pedal being pressed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer multiple times but the failure could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 35,000 jft.
The car will slow down and the service park light will pop on then the engine light will come on. This has been happening since the day I purchased the car. I have taken into the shop plenty of times and they keep telling me nothing is wrong with it. Over the past few years it has only gotten worse. It has done this on the highway while going 75 miles an hour. I have had to pull off the side of the road wait like 5 minutes before I can take off again. This is really becoming a problem and I am afraid to even put my grandbaby in the car with me because I'm afraid this will cause an accident. I have just recently went to dealership and they want to charge me for them to check my car and I have been telling them this issue from the day I had my car and my warranty was still in place, but they continued to tell me nothing is wrong with it.
I've been having a problem with my 07 Jeep Commander ill be driving on road and for no reason it will just turn off this im my primary car and I have a new born baby I would hate to get a phone call that they have been in a accident there has to be a recall on this right away this is the 3rd time it has happen please help.
The engine of the vehicle will stop at low speeds <30mph. Happens in traffic and repesents a potiental safey hazard. Fortunaly it has not stopped on any railroad tracks or in an intersection. Has occured over 2 months. Have taken to the authorized Jeep dealship and they have not resolved the issue. Reading the prior incidents reported to the agency, the stopping of the vehicle seems to be a chronic and persistant problem that represents a safety risk to any one that drives this make and model of vehicle. The manufacture does not even seem to know what is causing the issue.
I was driving home from picking up my daughter from a school event when suddenly my car slowed down on its own down to 10 mph. Then the car completely stopped. On the control console it only read "service park assist" and the drive position controls where all highlighted and boxed out (drnp). I lost all control of the vehicle other than turning the wheel. I tried to accelerate by pressing the gas and it just revved the engine and did nothing else. I swerved off the road and hit a median that took out the tire and left damage to the left of the car under carriage. I had to shift the gear into park and back to drive in order for the car to start up again. I took the car to a local Jeep Chrysler Dodge service depot and had it ran for a diagnostic for at which time they told me that it was a common issue found in this model and earlier models and that it wasn't covered by the power train that the vehicle would need $1100. 00 in repairs to fix an electronic transformer shift modulator. I had just purchased the car on October 31 from a Jeep Chrysler Dodge dealership and less than three weeks later the car is for crap. And the dealership refused to fix the problem and Jeep has not issued a recall for this issue but they have for the 2006 model. This problem is life threatening. It can occur at anytime at any speed. If I were on a expressway my children and I would probably be dead. Jeep needs to be pursed for this issue and forced to fix the damage on any vehicles reporting this issue.
This has happened to me. I am a mother, wife , daughter. The bad thing of this situation is that I had this replaced once before I had 31,505 miles on it and the ems electric transmission shift module had to be replaced . 4 yrs later millage at 82,000 miles the same part has to be replaced. I have contacted Chrysler and all they can say we are sorry there is nothing I can do for you. This part is no longer under warranty and informed that the part (68021352) was not included in a recall. This malfunctions has caused me to no longer feel safe in my car. I don't want to drive my car with my daughter in it. With out warning this has happened one to many times. This part should be recalled when I had the vehicle serviced back in 2008 I paid 100. 00 now today when I had it repaired it cost 1000. 00. Funny isnt it that over 4 yrs this part has doubled in price. And the mechanic at Chrysler says to me OH yeah ive seen this alot on this model.
Driving home from the doctors office my Jeep went dead on me. I had no. Ideal what was wrong with it. It started back up and it has happen to me several mire times since. I travel with my kids and I'm afraid it is going to get us killed. Please let me know of any recalls.
My 2007 hemi Commander purchased Aug 30th 2012 had a transmission problem yesterday. . I can not drive it all at, it is parked in my driveway. What should I do?.
Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that after the vehicle was fueled the engine did not start up. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The dealer replaced the battery but the failure was not corrected. The vehicle made a wining noise and the electrical light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who performed a diagnostic which located the failure at the alternator. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 91,005. Li.
Purchased the 2007 Jeep Commander 4x4 2 weeks ago. When I started the Jeep the service park assist flashed and went away, I headed down my driveway onto the highway and could not accelerate more than 20 miles per hour, the Jeep would not shift gears. I pulled to the side of the road for safety because of traffic, turned the Jeep off, started it again and merged back onto the highway and the Jeep again could not go more than 20 mph, put on hazards and brought to mechanic. Left the Jeep running, got back into to reverse and the it would not reverse, at this time the prnd was lit up on the dash board. Still waiting to here what the problem is mechanic can not duplicate. Very serious safety problem as I use to transport my children.
All lights light up and car loses all power.
Over the past few weeks while driving the vehicle will flash a warning saying service park assist system. When this happens the gear display on the dash prnd will all 4 get circled and flash and then as you are accelerating you can feel the vehicle lose speed. You can no longer accelerate the vehicle and have to coast off the road. Once you stop and shift to park then back to drive it will reset and then allow you to accelerate. I was going 65 on the freeway when this happened last and this is a major safety issue. For about the past 30,000-40,000 k miles we have had issues with it shifting properly and every time we took it to the dealer they can never re create the issue. Now we are receiving this warning and it actually stops accelerating on its own. It is happening more and more. We took it to the dealer since this warning now came on and they said they have never heard of it, they couldn't re create it, that it has nothing to do with the shifting and to turn off our park assist system so it doesn't happen. We are attempting a different dealer today but first thing they said is they never hear of this either. So comforting!.
It was a rainy day. I pulled my car in to the garage and shut off the engine. Pulled out the key and entered my house. The garage is connected to my home. I came back to the garage some time later to find the engine was still on. I ran to the drivers seat to see no key in the ignition and verified the remote engine feature wasn't engaged, it is designed to turnoff after the car door is open for a short time. The engine wouldn't shut off. I brought it to my husband, who drove it a bit and could not get the engine off. Eventually it self corrected. A truly dangerous issue since this car is parked in my home. We brought it to the dealer about 4 times, and while the engine hasn't done that again, various parts of the car turn on spontaneously. A single head light, a single brake light, all the lights. It seems the electrical system no longer has full control of the vehicle and that is dangerous. I believe my car is just one of many 2007 Jeeps that are having enormous electrical problems, my case just illustrates how dangerous this could be. A car engine running spontaneously is unacceptable and it is clear this is just a symptom of a common problem to all these Jeeps.
The vehicle was purchased new October 2007, also the extended warranty 5year 60,000 was purchased at the same time. The major problems began with the transmission electronic system, the removed and replaced something inside. Meanwhile the vehicle has been serviced and maintained by grava Chrysler Jeep since new the first time we complained and had it serviced was January 2011 and the last report was February 20,2012 and they still don't know what to fix. . Last year while driving home on interstate 93 speed approx 55 the vehicle lost power and we almost were struck by another vehicle, we had to come to a complete stop, place the vehicle in park to restart. Would not restart in neutral. The tech and service manager said it should have, well it didn't. They replaced the ignition switch, it happened again, they replaced some module, it happened again, they changed the fuel pump, it happened again for the sixth (6) time. They kept it for 10 days and were not able to find the problem, no code ,no problem that was their answer. By the way they put over 500 miles on the vehicle this time.
My 2007 Jeep Commander turns off o me when I'm at stop signs or slowing down without any warning. Today I went in for an oil change and told the service advisor about the problem. He acted like that was the first time he has heard about the issue. He asked me how often it happens and I said a few times a week. He then said that the vehicle would have to be brought in while it's happening. Really!!!! how am I suppose to take it in when it happens or before it happens! the vehicle doesn't warn me and it turns in right away as if nothing has ever happened! it is so frustrating!! I've had it for less than a year and we are already experiencing problems! I don't feel safe driving the vehicle with my baby! I've read all the complaints about the same issue!! this needs to be fixed! I think this vehicle is a lemon!.
My boyfriend and I were driving home from dinner and about half way home the car suddenly stopped accelerating and the speed dropped from 70 mph to 40 and kept slowing down. We had to pull over and turn the car off and then back on. The car has done this several times since and a light comes on that says "service park assist". I have read up on this year, make and model and have found that this is a very common issue that has not been dealt with! this is also a very dangerous issue. I also found that it has nothing to do with the "park assist" but rather the transmission in the truck and that many have failed well before 50,000 miles but shortly after Jeep's 35,000 mile warranty. Jeep did not cover my car because I bought it used which terminated the warranty because I was not the original owner. I am very disappointed - this is my first Jeep - and I have wanted a Jeep for years. The car still decelerates at times - I can be in traffic or pulling off from a stop or turning a corner and all of a sudden it is not shifting or accelerating. I can't afford a new car right now but am concerned about my family's safety. Please read up on the many articles and comments from people about this problem and save lives!!! with so many complaints and close-call accidents I would think that since it is 2011 something would have been done by now!.
