Sarting in September of 2013 while on the interstate traveling at 70mph in the middle lane of 3, the vechicle shut off and the warning lights came on and we had to drift to the side of the road. We got of the road to the side put the Jeep in park and after several tries it restarted. We have noticed on occasions after this, while slowing down to turn there is a clunk in the drivetrain. Soon after the clunk starts, that is when the Jeep will shut off. It has happened at highway speed and at signal lights. After the first it shut off we took it to a Jeep dealer and they put on in on the computed but said it didn't show anything. This has happened about 10 times since September and you take your like in your hands everytime you get on the interstate.

Jeep recently had the grand cherokee / Commander recall for the final drive control module cracking ( n23/NHTSA 13v-175 ) after I had this recall performed on my Commander, the 4wd system has failed multiple times, flashing "service 4wd system" on the dash. Never had this problem prior to the recall. My Jeep has been back to the dealer 3 times since and codes cleared or reflashed, and within a few weeks, the problem occurs again. Something isn't right with the software in this fix. I don't feel as if the flaw has been completely fixed. I have another dealer appointment Monday morning. Upon googling this recall, I've found multiple people having the same problem.
I have a 2007 Jeep Commander with a chronic stalling problem. Within just a couple months of buying this used vehicle, it stalled for the first time on the new york thruway going 70 mph. Since then, the vehicle chronically and randomly will stall. I have had it stall as much as 7 times in the space of going 12 miles! it will stall on the highway at 70 mph; or stopped at a stop sign; virtually anywhere anytime! this is extremely dangerous. Recently, I had it stall on the highway; I got it restarted and drove to my exit. At the end of the exit ramp when the light turned green, I proceeded to attempt to cross a busy intersection and it died again!!! I can't trust this vehicle and am afraid to drive it much. We have taken it to the local Jeep dealership many times without successfully fixing the problem. Most recently, we left the Commander at the dealership for a week and they thought they had it fixed so we picked it up and in just over 1 day it stalled again. I work only 6 miles from home and can't make it home from work without it stalling. We have put thousands . . . And thousands of dollars in repairs replacing sensors (including map), exhaust pipe with catalytic converters, ignition system, . . . And the list goes on. Looking on the internet, there are many websites and many complaints by other 2007 Jeep Commander owners for my same stalling problem. The 2006 Jeep Commander has had recalls for stalling . . . And this vehicle (2007 Commander) should be recalled and fixed. I cannot stress strongly enough how hazardous this vehicle is. Would you place your life . . . Your loved ones lives . . . In a vehicle that chronically stalls anytime and anywhere without warning?? think about it! I am just looking for Jeep to fix the problem their design has caused in this vehicle.
I have had this issue for over a 1. 5 years. I've only had the Jeep for 2 years. It has progressively gotten worse. The vehicle jerks and putts, the engine light comes on eventually flashes and the car shuts off. Chrysler Jeep has not, to this day, been able to diagnose the problem even with Chrysler engineers. They have kept my car for weeks at a time to no resolve. They have tried replacing multiple parts just to see if it works. On a few occasions I have almost been hit due to the vehicle stalling out. I have been told that Chrysler corporate will no longer assist me with this case.
The engine warning light was been on and off for the last 2 years. We have changed-out O2 sensors and other fixes but the problem persisted. The issue was discovered by the local Jeep dealership: four of the bolts attaching the manifold onto the hemi 5. 7l engine of our Commander were broken. The bolts and exhaust manifold gasket are being replaced - $642 cost.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the vehicle suddenly decelerated as all of the warning lamps illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 13v175000 (electrical system , power train). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 118,000 and the current mileage was 121,000.
I was getting on the highway and as soon as I got to about 30 it died. I has to quickly move over and stop and start again. This has happened several times before. Just got off the phone with Chrysler and they have a recall but not on my Jeep.
Vehicle stalled in the middle of highway traffic. Warning on dash states "service park assist system".
Car suddenly went into limp home mode and wouldn't go over 30 mph. Check engine light came on. Dealer replaced transmission shift module. Warranty wouldn't cover it because it was external to the transmission. 6 weeks later it happened again, dealer said it was a bad ground. 1 year and 5 days later it happened again and took it to a different dealer and was told there was a firmware upgrade which they performed. 1 week later it happened again. This time one the freeway. Error indicated improper gear ratio selected.
Vehicle would not start. Message on dash states "transmission over temp".
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that while traveling at 55 mph, the check engine light illuminated then the vehicle lost acceleration power and stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle but it failed to exceed 30 mph. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be replicated. The failure and current mileages were 49,224.
When shifting from park to drive, or reverse to drive, the engine stalls and it takes almost a minute for the shift to actually occur so I can drive.
My 2007 Jeep Commander vehicle had problems with idling and stalling, car would cutoff while driving between 35-60 miles and as well during idling. This had been an on going problem since 2010 though 2012 and then some time before. I officially for the record file this complaint understanding that many Jeep owners had this same problem many times over although the Chrysler corporation never did a recall regarding this problem pertaining to 2006-2008 Jeep vehicles which was and is such a disservice to the consumers.
I purchased in November 2012 and ever since with each rain storm my interior floods and it is starting to affect electronics. I have service 4wd system system after n23 recall and vehicle won't shift into 4 lo. I have service park assist and tpms warning and had all four sensors replaced with warning recurring. I recently started losing all four door speakers intermittently and when they do work they sound horrible. Display on radio is starting to go black and dim. I have lights on dash display flash on and off when they want. I have crazy rpm fluctuation at idle and recently transmission feels like it is trying to shift and rpm fluctuations when cruising at hwy speeds. I have bumped the key on multiple occasions and the vehicle is essentially shut off and still moving. Most problems have just recently begun and haven't taken to dealer yet but after reading about many of the same problems and Jeep not owning up to any of them, I don't have the money to chase phantom problems that the dealer can't recreate and change parts and hope it fixes the problem. I don't feel safe driving the vehicle and have to dry the vehicle out after every rain. I am about to have to write it off as a loss and buy a new vehicle which will not be a Jeep. I guess hundreds of people will have to die for Jeep to man up and admit they made a terrible unsafe vehicle and quit making their customers pay for their mistake.
3rd row seat belts break and are unusable whenever the 3rd row seats are folded down. The plastic piece is pushed over the metal latching piece of the seat belt. They have been fixed and are now broken again, now the 3rd row seat cannot be used for passengers. Water from rain is coming through the doors, puddling at the base of the door. The Jeep was in park, when I attempted to put the car in reverse it would not go, all of the prd were lit up with blocks around them. I turned off the Jeep and I was able to put the car in reverse.
Hard downshift mostly at lower speeds and slowing down. Sometimes very hard other times not so hard but definitely present. It has sounds like a bang with a jerk also. Something is going to break as this is not going away. Currently under warranty and can't fix it. Great! what happens when my warranty is up and it falls apart and big bucks to fix from the abuse it took because the dealership cannot find the problem. Was told I may have to live with it. I don't flipping thinks so. $36,700. 00 for this vehicle brand new. Never had this problem until 50k miles. Something is wrong. Asking for help Chrysler!! fix that german transmission! big problem getting worse and dealership has had it 4 times in a month. Does not have a clue. They say it's fixed. I drive away and within a day it comes right back. Call me Chrysler!.
My 2007 hemi Commander purchased Aug 30th 2012 had a transmission problem yesterday. . I can not drive it all at, it is parked in my driveway. What should I do?.
Problem started with vehicle losing power on acceleration from dead stop. It did that twice before the "check engine" light came on as I was pulling out into heavy traffic. Immediately took it to garage which determined code were u0404 (implausible data received from esm), p0607 (ecu internal performance) and b1a28 (ecm mismatch with skm). Dealers had two shifter/esm assemblies in stock. That tells me this is a common problem as I have read on the internet that it is. This vehicle is pampered and only driven about 5k per year, mostly when I got to our hunting camp up state. Repair cost $1,130. 99. Chrysler needs to pony up with a recall and fix this issue without cost as well as reimburse those of us who have already paid to have the defect fixed. Someone could be injured or killed as a result of this defect.
About three years ago, my 2007 Jeep Commander 4x4, 4. 7l, limited, inexplicably stalled while I was driving on the freeway at about 60 miles per hour. Since that first stalling episode, this has occurred at least 30 more times. It happens in the city, the freeway, during acceleration, and under normal driving conditions. I have brought this vehicle to the Jeep dealer on numerous occasions. Each time, they tell me they can't duplicate the problem. Furthermore, they tell me that this is an isolated problem that they haven't heard about before. A simple internet search shows that this is a widely reported problem and owners report the same explanations from the dealerships.
Vehicle appeared to hesitate and eventually stalled loosing power. All instrumentation lights came on during this event. Driver was able to coast to the side of the highway; place the car in park/neutral; and restart the engine. The same event has happened at least 4 other times since the first at varying speed (I. E. 35 to 65 mph) and there were no warning lights making this a very dangerous and unpredictable event. I took the vehicle to an authorized dealer and he stated that it could be the power control module; but was unsure. I'm very concerned with the safety of my family. The symptom of this problem (engine stall) is unpredictable and is a recipe for a serious and life threatening accident. I've reviewed hundreds of complaints reporting similar conditions. There needs to be a global recall on all 2007 Jeep Commanders reporting this problem to have this issues repaired before there is a loss of life resulting from this event. Nhtsb please respond to this complaint and compel Chrysler to issue a recall before it is too late and life threatening injury occurs.
Vehicle, a 2007 Jeep Commander 4wd, stopped moving forward, felt like it was in neutral, rpms went up but vehicle did not move forward. I let off the gas, then it jerked a couple of times, engine light came on and it started to move normally. While in the atm drive thru, put the vehicle in drive and it would not move, put it in park again, then shifted down to drive and it moved. Took the vehicle to the dealer, they advised that it was a shift module on the transmission that needed to be replaced, I had an extended warranty, and the vehicle only had 42200 miles on it. Warranty will not cover the $16000. 00 plus cost to repair. Needless to say this is the last Jeep I will own. Given the amount of online complaints regarding this same problem there should be a recall, this is a huge safety issue.
The transmission seems to slam into gear upon release of the accelerator when slowing down upon the automatic downshifting that take place. Sometime is seems quite violent and other times not to bad but very noticeable. I have had this vehicle in for service for this same exact complaint. However the fix the dealer claimed they did was temporary. It is back again and is worrisome to me. Also the driver side widow does not roll up or down properly without slamming hard near the close or open and something inside rattles pretty bad. The dealer also has repaired this and it was also temporary, really never fixed.
As of June 8th 2011 I bought my Jeep used with approximately 42000 miles on it soon after it started having filling issues then for a while the issue ceased now about a month before date of stall listed above it started with the same filling issues except worse now causing it to not want to shift into gears as normal car would, kinda jerking in between shifts from different speeds and rpm increase and decrease. It has stalled on me twice now. The first time on the interstate at 70 mph with my 3 kids and pregnant wife in the car causing all power functions to be lost and we almost got ran over by a transfer truck trying to get to the shoulder of the road. I had it look at and the throttle body and intake cleaned of carbon deposited and now today June 12th 2012 it stalled again getting off the interstate heading to my work. Still filling high and low and stalling and jerking between the natural shifting of the transmission.
My 2007 Jeep Commander stalls during lengthy trips of 100 miles or more at speeds between 50 - 70 mph. Each time it stalled I was on a major interstate and had to drift to the side of the highway to restart the vehicle. The first time it happened was early summer during a trip from georgia to louisiana and it did it again during a second trip in July. I thought my battery may have had a bad cell and was providing the needed power to the vehicle. After doing some research this evening online I see this is a big problem for other Commander owners nationwide. I plan to take it to the dealer this week.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. The contact stated while driving 35 mph, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer and the manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 32,000 and the current mileage was 37,000.
While driving car will for no reason loose power, you can press gas but car will not go faster than about 15-20 mph, then all of a sudden car jerks and regains power. . . A few months will go by and car will do again. When this first happened me and my family were on I*4 and car lost power on a road that is 65 mph.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that when driving at low speeds below 10 mph, the vehicle would suddenly stall. The failure occurred on multiple occasions. In addition, the contact indicated that the transmission over temperature warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who indicated that a faulty starter caused the failure. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and was informed that the vehicle was not included in the NHTSA campaign number: 08v20300 (power train). The failure mileage was 60,000.
I have had several problems with the 2007 Jeep Commander. At times it will not start. Recently it has lost power/speed when accelerating. I was merging onto the highway and it suddenly lost power and would not go above 20mph. The engine had a strange noise to it. I have had it "fixed" multiple times but nothing seems to stop the problems. It is the worst car I have ever owned.
