Air Bag On-off Switch Problems of Jeep Commander

Having an electrical switch issue with my Jeep. The key locks in the ignition and the car will not start. Also the airbag sign says something is wrong.

Air bag indicator light on . Ignition switch problem prior relates power mechanical devices, windows, sunroof, seats which present a safety hazard. . Loss of functionality of these systems increases safety and injury risk. Chrysler worked on the ignition switch and after had issues with windows and airbag.

Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that while stationary, the ignition key became stuck in the vehicle. In addition, the air bag light, the abs brake light and the traction control light illuminated as well. Napleton's river oaks Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram of lansing, illinois was made aware of the failure and replaced the ignition switch and the ignition key. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. The failure mileage was approximately 119,000. Ad.

Nhtsa recall number: 14v-438 recall date: September 3, 2014 manufacturer recall number: p41 "summary: some Jeep Commander and Jeep grand cherokee vehicles may experience an unintended change in ignition switch position while driving. Safety risk: this may result in loss of engine power, power steering, and braking assist increasing the risk of a crash and disabling one or more of the vehicles safety features including the frontal airbags. Remedy: Chrysler intends to repair vehicles free of charge (parts and labor). However, the part required to provide a permanent remedy for this condition is currently not available. Chrysler is making every effort to provide the part as quickly as possible. Recall status: recall incomplete. Remedy not yet available" I have had several incidents where all electrical other than the power train fails, including air-conditioning. If I jiggle my ignition switch everything comes back on. If this recall has such a high risk level of crash, injury, and even death, why hasn't Jeep come up with a remedy. I worked in the united states army combat readiness/safety center which deals with accident investigation and truly understand the risk of injury or even death that comes with this potential materiel failure. If I were the ceo for Jeep or worked in their safety division, I would not put this off any longer. It has been over a year since the discovery of this potential materiel failure and Jeep has done nothing. I recommend that Jeep is proactive to this failure rather than reactive.

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. While driving at 30 mph, the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. In addition, the turn signals malfunctioned intermittently and the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who diagnosed that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system) however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.

My airbags in my vehicle would shut off on there own then my lights started turning on and off as I drove. . Thats the start . . One day im driving home with my kids and my car stalls out in the middle of the road tryed everything wouldnt start but windows worked except front and lights but no power. I had it towed to Jeep and they insisted it was my battery. I go get my truck and as im driving all my lights come back on and all my gauges no longer worked,airbags no longer worked. They put it on the computer and p41 code came on which is my ignition switch recall from Chrysler. Jeep had me contact Chrysler and they said that part wont be available no time soon and they were going to put me in a rental . The next day Chrysler contacted Jeep and then Jeep said they have no idea its some electrical but they cant guarantee so I called the manager and told them its unacceptable I am without a car because Chrysler wont fix the recall its a safety issue and they told me they cant do anything.

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. While starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The mechanic diagnosed that the ignition switch and the air bags needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system); however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 119,000.

Chrysler has a recall out for faulty ignition switches. The recall notices were issued in sept 2014. It is now mid Dec and there are no parts and no remidy for this when in contact with Chrysler directly. On the recall it states that the engine can stop due to electrical failure w/in the veh with out notice as well as the power steering can be lost and or the braking all of which increase your crash potential. There is also warning that the air bags can deploy w/o waring causing bodily harm to both the driver and passangers. They are aware there is an issue and state they still have done nothig to resolve - inexcusible!!!.

The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 73,000.

While driving at 45 mph the vehicle just turned off. There is a faulty ignition switch recall but Chrysler will not do anything to help get this repaired. I received a recall notice and contacted them but they will not get back to me about repair. This 2006 vehicle is being driven by my daughter who is 19 years old and away at college. Unfortunately my vehicle is a 2007 Jeep Commander and has the same recall therefore I can't even give her my vehicle to drive since it is unsafe as well. At the very least Chrysler should repair these vehicle pronto! in the interim they should provide a safe vehicle for my daughter to drive.

In addition, the ignition switch failed to turn in order to start the vehicle. Upon changing from first to second gear, the rpms revved and force was applied to the brake pedal to get the vehicle to change gears. The contact stated that it had been over a year that the part was not available for NHTSA campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

P41 recall. Before recall my 2006 Jeep Commander turned off on its own numerous times. This resulted in engine shut down, no electrical system, etc. I have contacted Chrysler several times. I get the same response, part not available. Why? I am told the supplier does not have part. Why not?. This is an old recall, however Chrysler is repairing or buying back newer models of vehicles due to faulty design. 2006 Jeep Commander recall is just as serious as newer recalls. The faulty ignition switch results in entire shut down of Jeep, including air bags. I was told to adjust seat so that knee does not make contact with keys in ignition. What? I suggest that vehicles with faulty ignition switch be a part of the Chrysler buy back or repair immediately. Also, to avoid further serious accidents and possible death resulting form faulty ignition switch.

The vehicle engine shut down suddenly while driving on the interstate. I was able to turn on the hazard lights and coast through traffic to the shoulder of the road. Upon investigation I noticed that the ignition switch had turned off which led to a hazardous situation.

While driving down the road the vehicle engine shuts off; airbag light flashes on as well as dash lights. This has happened approximately 10 times in the middle of a eight lane highway in rush hour. It has torn my nerves all to pieces trying to drive it under these conditions so I had to park it and buy another vehicle. Need action soon. Started approximately 2 years ago and has progressively gotten worse. Notified Chrysler and was told to remove all keys from ring except switch key; did that and it still happens.

I was in an accident and the airbags did not deploy. I was in town traveling about 30-35 mph, the car I was following switched lanes and I hit a car that was completely stopped. The airbag warning light had been going on and off for about 6 months. I didn't think too much of it because it is not the only warning light that sometimes does that. I figured the electronics probably didn;t like all the water that pours into the frame and onto the drivers floor.
