3 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 07/16/2011

My son was a passenger in his 2006 Jeep Commander when the front driver's side tire blew. The person driving it tried to control the vehicle; however, the vehicle ended up rolling several times. None of the vehicle's airbags deployed. Our concern was specifically the side airbags that are suppose to deploy on a roll over. My son suffered a skull fracture on the right side of his head from hitting his head on the window each time the car rolled over. He also suffered broken clavicle, scapula and humerus on the right side. The passenger suffered whip lash and a slight concussion. My son is permanently blind in his right eye and is going through physical and occupational therapy and will continue to do this for the next several months. We have photos of the vehicle upon request. Jeep did an investigation and sent me a letter stating that the impact was not sufficient to cause the airbags to deploy. I have a concern about this explanation. It is my understanding that the side curtain airbags are to deploy when the vehicle starts the roll over, not on an impact.

Failure Date: 08/27/2010

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that the dealer gave him an orange card that stated there was a safety recall on the side air bags in his vehicle. The card stated that there will be a metal bar and foam placed on all sides of the vehicle to make the air bags deploy properly in case of a crash. The contact stated that was unsafe, because the bar will be on top of the driver and front passengers head. The failure and current mileages were 20415.

6 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2008 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 12/08/2009

I was involdved in a 2mv/pd accident where I "t-boned" a vehicle that ran a stop sign. I after I truck the vehicle I forced both vehicles through a deep ditch and into a field. I dont recall any of the accident but at some point after the initial collision my 2008 Jeep Commander rolled at least once landing on its wheels. My vehicle roof made contact with the ground just above the driver's seat and also where the windshield and roof meet on the driver's side. After being released from the hospital with a sever concussion and brain swelling, and a lacerated left temporal artery due to by head hitting the side beam on the driver's side, I observed my vehicle. It concerns me because upon observing the vehicle I found that none of the side curtain airbags deployed. I cant say for sure if these airbags would have deployed if it would have made a difference in my injuries but the thought still sticks in my mind. I would hate for this to be a reoccuring theme for these vehicles and possibly cost someone their life.

7 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2008 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 02/19/2009

1. I was in an accident in which my vehicle rear-ended another. Most of the front end of my vehicle will have to be replaced. The vehicle that was rear-ended is a total loss. 2. At the time of impact I was wearing my safety belt but it did not lock causing my upper body to hit the steering wheel with great force. Also none of my air bags deployed. 3. I have contacted the dealership and Chrysler to make them aware of the failures. At this time, nothing has been done to correct these problems.

8 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 05/23/2008

I bought a Jeep comander in may of 2008, two days later I had to have what was supposed to be a really great new car towed on a rollback to the dealer I had just gotten it from. Im driving down the road and it starts making a terrible noise and then it will not turn and just dies in the middle of the road. Right in the middle of an intersection with traffic coming at me. Since then the same thing happened again as I was driving down the interstate with my children in the car and traffic all around. I drove it straight to the dealership, and also had them tell me it was the driver of the vehicle. I got a rental and they called the next day to say they could find anything wrong with the car. During the winter my car decided to get a mind of its own and when you would turn the heat on you had to have it on high or it wouldn't do anything, but if you drove around a curve to the right it would cut off, if you went around a curve to the left it would cut back on. A couple months later it was time to get brakes and have rotors turned. I also had the stereo worked on because I guess it took lessons from my heater, and would change stations or not turn at all . It still doesn't work right at this point I've kind of given up on it. But then the window s started not going up all the way theywould go halfway up then go back down in the door. I have just taken my car on Friday to get new tires, Monday for an alignment, where I was told they couldn't do one because my tierod had to much play in it and was a safety concern. My dealership no longer has their license so I had my car taken to the closest Jeep place and my warranty couldn't be found and I basically stood on the street to wait for a ride as they closed for the night. But then when I got to talk to them again I needed new brakes and rotors all the way around at a grand total of 600. 00 .
