Tl the contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the ignition was turned to off position however, after exiting the vehicle, the contact noticed that the engine was still running. The contact re-entered the vehicle and placed the key in the ignition, shifted the gear shifter and the vehicle started revving up. After several minutes, the vehicle returned to normal operation with the seat belt warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to jacksonville Chrysler Jeep Dodge ram arlington (9600 atlantic blvd. , jacksonville, FL 32225) to be diagnosed however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure recurred intermittently. The manufacturer was a made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 116,000.

Engine does not start sometimes, have had recalled ignition put in already. Then it stalled on highway, had it towed to mechanic, couldn't get it jumped. He took off serpentine belt and showed us engine was locked up. It has a 5. 7 hemi in it. I get all fluids changed when I'm supposed to. Change oil and filter religiously with best oil and filter available . Mechanic even said all fluids looked great. He can't understand it. This vehicle has had numerous problems, from leaking weepholes in son roof to drivetrain, not wanting to start and stalling when ever to now a seized engine!.

Vehicle shutting off when stalling or at a stop driving down a city street with vehicles behind me. Idleing high when turning on or driving. Just had some thing fixed and issue still not resolved seems to be ecm/pcm possibly. Some sort of water entrance unsure where from had windshield reinstalled and I still get puddles on my driver and passenger feet. Back set belts keep braking was told this is a defect when seats are layed down seat buckles break and need to be replaced which is a safety issue with my children since I have 4 and need these to be functional they have been replaced 3 times and am now told it's a defect.
Engine light come on, and stayed on. Checked obvious engine problems, oil, belt, gas cap, etc. No obvious cause. Took to local mechanic. Checked code and reset. Advised it had to do with center console shift linkage? advised to bring back as soon as comes on again. This is however not the first time the light has come on for no apparent reason. Have had to pull over at least twice before on interstate to check engine. No cause found. After several restarts, light did not come on, and car ran, though sluggish and at time labored.
I was driving my 2007 Jeep Commander, 5. 7l hemi at approximately 25 mph on interstate 16 at approximately 2200 hours with my two minor children seatbelted in the the back. We were approximately 150 miles from home. There was heavy traffic due to a holiday weekend, road construction, and rainy weather. I recognized a problem was occurring because I could not accelerate, and my attention was diverted from driving because I was trying to figure out what was happening. I realized that the engine had cut off without warning. There was no power to anything, and the vehicle was very hard to steer and to stop. I pulled over to the side, placed the vehicle in park, and tried unsuccessfully to restart the engine. I was able to check under the hood and I found that the oil level was in the normal range and the oil appeared clean. The antifreeze in the reservoir was in the normal range and there was no bubbling. The transmission fluid, power steering fluid, and brake fluid were also within normal ranges. After another try, it restarted, then there was a loud metal clanking sound then copious smoke coming from the tailpipe, then the engine light came on flashing. The temperature gauge registered normal. I turned the truck off and started making phone calls with thunderstorms and severe lightning complicating the situation. We arranged for a tow truck to transport us to a nearby hotel, and the next day I towed the Jeep back home using a uhaul truck. Mechanics have determined that a piston head is damaged and cracked and the Jeep is currently in the shop having a new engine installed. They did not find an obvious cause for the damage to the piston. There are two significant problems: the engine stopped without warning, and the engine failed prematurely. It is unknown if the problems are related to each other.
Car stalls when driving down the road. The drnp dash lights all light up at the same time and the car shuts down for a couple seconds, then it resumes. It has happened several times randomly in the past. Today, it stalled 3 times on the highway on my home from work. I had to pull over and restart the car. The check engine light finally came on today. The seatbelts also have broken several times. I've replaced 2 separate seatbelt cases (the outer cover) in the past year. The middle, second row seatbelt is locked up and currently unusable. When I bought the car, the first time I put up the 3rd row seat, the seatbelt was crushed by the seat and broken. And, the back seatbelt is currently broken again (which I have only used the 3rd row seats twice since owning the car), I plan to have them repair it again when I take the car in to get the check engine light checked :(.
I purchased a 2006 Jeep Commander 5. 7 l hemi in may of 2009 with 46k miles . Shortly after the power steering pump went out ,I had it replaced . Then the car started to stall pretty much everyday and I took to the dealer and was told it needed a new battery . Two days later the car stalled again on the interstate and this time the dealer told me that I needed a new ignition switch and the problem will be fixed. This reduce the amount of stalls and it will happen about twice a month . Then I was driving with my son in the 3rd row seat and I cut off by another car and had to slam on my brakes the belt buckle broke off and my son end up on the floor . In July 2010 I was driving at about 65 mph and all of the sudden all the lights started to flash and the dash board lit up and engine stalled ,I lost the power steering ,accelerator become very loose and stuck to the floor ,brakes did not work 'I mput the car in neutral and used the emergency brakes to stop. There is smoke coming out of the hood so I got out of the car and called a tow truck . At the dealer I was told that there was a complete engine failure and that I needed a new engine . The car is out of warranty and the cost will be 8k to fix.
The stalling problems with my Jeep started the first week I bought it. It had 17,000 miles. It would idle and then stall at stop lights or when parked or just shut down while driving. Luckily each time I was able to get to the side of the road without being hit by another vehicle. Other problems include not starting sporadically. Battery has been replaced twice, alternator replaced. In the shop 5 different times for this same problem and they tell me nothing is wrong with it. Other models from the same year were recalled for similar issues but my vehicle was not included in the recall. Also, seat belt in 2nd row does not latch. Chrysler needs to do something because there are 700+ complaints on here for the same issue and no one can tell me what is wrong!!.

Rotors warped, needed to be resurfaced; 25,000 air only works on high and low--resistor motor ordered; 30,500, front and rear rotors warped, resurfaced; 32,000 car won't start--nothing found; 36,063, car started, then shut off and would not restart; security control module replaced; 39049, car would not start--towed to dealer replaced immobolizer control module; resistor blower motor finally replaced; resurfaced both front and rear rotors again; 48,010 car won't start; starter replaced starter; resistor blower motor again faulty, replaced motor, resistor and wiring; 50,831won't start again, towed to dealer, battery dead due to unfounded short, cause unknown, installed new battery; 58,0573 won't start, no crank, battery dead would not charge--suspected radio was the culprit replaced battery and radio; 61,5932 towed to dealer will not start battery voltage low checked all charging systems, replaced battery again; 61,700 car would not start--towed to dealer where it remains. I have a car that I owe 18k on that I cannot trade in because of this history it is only worth 8k. Throughout ownership I have had intermittent stalling, constant hesitation in acceleration. Additionally, the rear seat belt has let go and caused my son to hit his face on the back seat. Problems with seat belt latch sliding so that belt will not hook. Cannot see when backing up when my 5 kids are in the car. Tire pressure light comes on often, as does the air bag light. Exterior headlights are tilted so that they look like highbeams. This car is a danger.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that he heard a loud screaming sound. Upon inspection, he concluded that the timing belts caused that failure. He took the vehicle to the dealer and they rerouted the timing belts and the blower motor. Approximately two days while driving 60 mph, the vehicle vibrated excessively. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and they performed a wheel alignment. One week later he heard the screaming noise again. The dealer repaired the serpentine belt however two weeks later he heard a loud noise coming from the engine. The dealer stated the compressor caused the failure. As of January 7, 2008, the dealer had not repaired the vehicle. The failure mileage was 35,121 and current mileage was 36,120.
My 2006 Jeep Commander (4. 7 liter) constantly stalls and hesitates and the dealer keeps telling me they can't find anything wrong but there are hundreds of complaints online about the same thing and I want to know why this has not been recalled. Also the third row seat belts seem to have a problem.
2006 4. 7 v8 Jeep Commander has had multiple problems, the most severe being 3 (out of 7) inoperable seatbelts and sporadic stalling of the vehicle. The first 8 - 10 times the vehicle stalled (went dead), I was at a stopped position attempting to accelerate. The most recent incident happened as I was driving in traffic. I lost all power steering and brakes when the vehicle died. I was going up a slight incline which assisted me in stopping and I put the vehicle in neutral and restarted. I have refused to drive the vehicle since that time out of safety concerns for my children and for others on the road. The dealership has attempted to correct the problem on 4 occasions - nothing has worked. The Chrysler corporation refuses to buy-back the vehicle because the dealership has not duplicated the problem in the shop. I have witnesses to the occurrences and have documented each time it has happened.
