I have a 2006 Jeep Commander that I bought 2 months ago. It has been one problem after another. First of all the first day it rained the whole entire cab was soaked, come to find out that there is a problem with the sunroof drainage of these Jeeps. The drain lines don't stay connected to the floor and when that occurs the carpet get drenched. I had to pull all of the carpet out of the Jeep because of mold concerns. Secondly shortly thereafter the check engine light came on the first time I drove the Jeep. Took it too a mechanic and the code showed a crank sensor and a cam sensor. Got both of those replaced and it required a driveshaft repair kit. Another day later the check engine light went off again. The truck started to shake and shimmy so we had to pull over on the side of a highway because it wasn't safe. Took it into another mechanic that was closer to where I was having the issues and they put another set of crank and cam sensors in again. Supposingly I was good to go but just 2 days later the check engine light came back on. Went back to another mechanic that was close in proximity to where I was having trouble in which the truck started to shake and shimmy again. This mechanic found a short to the ground in altanater unit which required a new altanater because the other one wasn't pulling enough voltage. Today (sept 5th) went to start the truck and it stalled again and when I restarted it the check engine light was back on. I have spent well over $2000 on this situation and it still isn't fixed. I have read a lot of other customer complaints about this model as well as others who are having the same problem. There should be a recall on this from Chrysler to fix whatever issues these cars are having. They have been getting away with this crap way too long now. Going down the freeway 70 plus miles an hour and all of a sudden the check engine light comes on.

Check engine light came on. Engine surged rpms and lost all power while driving. I put it in neutral and started it back up. Upon parking, rpms surged again, vehicle tried to pull forward before the rpms dropped and stalled the engine in drive. I checked used my scan tool to check the code and it came back p1521 which is for wrong engine oil. I used royal purple 5w20 in my last oil change. It drove the vehicle for 2098 miles before this incident occurred with no issues in between. I noticed the 4. 7 litre had a recall done for the same exact issue and it being a software update for the power control module.
I was driving on the interstate and my vehicle stalled and the check engine light cams on.
2007 Jeep Commander with 112,000 est miles, bought used in ak 2016. A week after I bought it I kept having O2 sensor codes pop up. I have had all sensors replaced more than once and numerous other parts with the latest being the catalytic converter. I have spent several thousands of dollars trying to solve this issue. Today was my breaking point, I was driving on I-24 to nashville to take my son to an appointment at vanderbilt. It was raining this morning, all of a sudden the red lighting bolt and other lights came on. My Jeep lost power, the brakes didn't work, the steering locked up and I was scared I was going to get hit. I put my hazards on and was able to get across 2 lanes of traffic to the shoulder. I shut the Jeep off and turned it back on and it was normal again with just the check engine light on. I was so scared to drive back to clarksville, fearing that it would happen again. I saw that I am not the only one who has had this issue. I called corporate and they said there is nothing really they can do. I said what is it going take, someone, dying or getting into a wreck?? I am disappointed in how this has been handled. My latest carfax shows that this Jeep has had the same issues over and over, with nothing really getting resolved.
Jeep loses power and shuts down while driving in city and on the highway at random speeds. Also will shut down while stationary. Causes loss of power steering and brakes. Check engine light has not come on. The only way to restart is to fully place in park and completely remove the key. Violent shut down and transmission is not shifting correctly. I have had the asd relay replaced and wiring checked with no fix. Very dangerous with my 3 year old in the car.

The contact stated the air bags, traction and check engine warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated she continued to drive the vehicle but experienced the failure and shifted to 4th gear. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but continued to experience the failure. The vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic and who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired as of yet. The manufacturer had been informed of failure and associated the failure with manufacturer communication number: p57. The vehicle was taken to local dealer voyles Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram of birmingham located at 1313 grants mill way, birmingham, al 35210, (205) 403-5430, and had the recall repair completed. The dealer stated after the repair was completed that they continued to experience the failure. The dealer stated the transmission solenoid pack needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired as of yet. The failure mileage was 95,000.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. While driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle lost power and stalled without warning. When the vehicle was restarted, it failed to accelerate and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the bank 5 misfired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 08v203000 (power train). The failure mileage was 165,000.
Was driving through town with no problem. Road turns into highway and speed limit is 65 mph. Tried to increase speed from 35 mph (town speed limit) and vehicle started slowing down and bucking and hesitating. Pulled off road and turned engine off for a few minutes. Could not increase speed to more than 25 mph. Towed home. Left alone for an hour and retried. Still have same problem. Tried this morning, still same problem. Will need to tow it to a garage. Check engine light also came on.

The 1st incident happened at 7:45am while I was stopped in a line of traffic heading to work. I went to press the gas and nothing happened. I put my car in park and turned the key and the engine cranked up fine. It was as though the key switched back to accessory bc no check engine light, no bells, alerts nothing - and my stereo still played and my headlights were still on. Incident 2 happened at 8:00pm while back out of a parking space. The engine again turned off and headlights still worked, but not breaks or steering. Pushed key forward and vehicle cranked up again. I called palmer Dodge and they said it sounds like a faulty ignition switch, which has been recalled on my model of Jeep, but they were not doing repairs for the recall bc Chrysler hasn't issued the parts. Therefore, if I get it fixed now, I will have to pay for it and then hope Chrysler will reimburse me when the parts are available. They want me to continue to drive my vehicle which could shut off while I'm doing 80 mph down a highway for the nect 5 months? I have to pay for a part they have already recalled bc it's not openly available to everyone yet?.
I was driving on the express way do 70 mph and we hit a bump and the Jeep lost all power. It shut right off. Thank fully we were in the outside lane and could get pulled over. The check engine light came on. Once we got pulled over we shut the key off and started it back up and it was fine. But the check engine light stayed on. There has been a recall on the ignition switch since June of 2014 and the dealership keeps telling me they don't have the parts. This is my only vehicle and I have a child and do not want to drive it now.
While accelerating speed as I entered the toll road for my morning commute, the engine stalled. Pulled over, put in park, turned off ignition, restarted. Vehicle operated but check engine light remained on. Less than one mile later, lost speed again, had to pull over to the shoulder of the road, place in park, turn off ignition, and restart. Check engine light remained on. Check engine light turned off in the afternoon.
Cruise control still does not operate. Single touch power window function no longer works on driver and passenger windows. While commuting to work on the toll road, rpms registered between 2500-3500 going at a speed of 75. The majority of the time, it was between 3000-3500. I did not have the air conditional running. I was not accelerating and was not going up or down inclines to cause the higher rpms. After exiting the toll road, I turned and while accelerating to around 40mph, the engine stalled and the check engine light came on. As I was on an inside lane, I had to slow down to allow a semi to pass on the outside lane in order to be able to pull over to the side of the road. I had to place in park, turn off the ignition switch, and turn it back on. Check engine light remained on. My average mpg was 13. 9, lower than it should be. Leaving for my commute home, when I turned on the Jeep, the check engine light was no longer lit. I noticed during the commute that the rpms were not as high as in the morning, and also my mpg increased by almost a mile per gallon, and that was running at the same speed and I also was running the air conditiioning. Upon exiting the toll road, the vehicle jerked heavily while downshifting from overdrive. A jerky motion continued for the remainder of my commute (ranging from 30-55 mph). Please note that I do now take photos after the engine stalls to reflect the mileage and that the light is lit. I also now take pictures when the check engine light goes off.
While idling in a driveway, the check engine and esp/bas lights came on. The vehicle did not stall. Shortly afterward, when driving about 55-60 mph, I realized the cruise control no longer works. I tried multiple times to turn it on, but it does not come on any longer. The esp/bas light went off about 10 miles later, after I stopped to fuel up the vehicle. The check engine light remained on. About an hour later and another 35 miles later, after making a stop, the check engine light did not come back on when restarting the vehicle. Later in the afternoon, while it was in the neutral gear and going through an automatic carwash, the vehicle stalled twice. The rpms were constantly up and down between 500 and 1500 rpms.
During commute to work, vehicle shifting in a jerky manner and rpms are high and erratic for speed of vehicle. At 10:00, when driving to a meeting, when first putting Jeep into gear, the gear display "d" disappeared and "4" was in its place, concerning me that the overdrive went out (I've already had a solenoid pack replaced due to the overdrive "going out" - happened about 2 years ago). Vehicle did not want to move forward as I was attempting to pull out onto the street. Fortunately, it moved forward and I reached my destination. During commute home, about 5 miles into my drive on the toll road, the check engine light came on and the engine stalled. Had to pull over to the side of the road, place in park, turn off ignition switch, turn back on, and resumed my commute home.
Driving on toll road, 65-70mph, engine stalled, check engine light came on, lost power steering, had to pull over to the side of the road. Put into park, turned off ignition, restarted. Check engine light remained on and continued driving. Check engine light remained on until mid-afternoon that day. Also noticed shifting was jerky.
While driving on toll road going 65-70mph, check engine light came on, engine quit, lost power steering, had to pull over to the side of the road. Shifted to park, turned ignition off, restarted. Check engine light came back on. Resumed driving.
Driving 65-70 on toll road. Passing semis when check engine light came on, engine stalled, lost power steering. Had to pull over to the left shoulder of the road. Shifted into park, turned ignition off, restarted. Check engine light stayed on. Drove home. Noticed esp/bas light was lit. Did not drive vehicle until the following Monday. Check engine light was no longer on.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. While driving at approximately 5 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate and the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system). The contact stated that the parts needed for the repair were not available. The manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 77,105.
Driving to work on toll road, 65-70mph. Engine light came on, engine stalled, lost power steering. Had to pull over to the side of the road. Put in park, turned off ignition, restarted. Resumed driving to work. Contacted dealership and they did not have time to check my vehicle that day. Check engine light remained on until mid-afternoon that day.
I was driving down the highway and check engine light dings and vehicle comes to a stop, I was able to drift off to the side of the road but steering was locked up. Engine completly shut off. After about 5 mins I was able to restart engine and now the check engine light bas and traction control lights are on.
I was driving my 2007 Jeep Commander limited edition 4x4 in city traffic driving approximately 25 mph in stop and go traffic when it stalled for no apparent reason. The check engine light also came on. After restarting the engine, the problem went away. This stalling and engine light warning has since happened at least 100 more times over the last 4 years. Dealer and independent mechanics are unable to troubleshoot the problem. The most recent event happened on 6/8/14. Complete engine stall on interstate highway. Vehicle was towed 65 miles to home town. Mechanic replaced alternator and battery. Engine started fine, ran well for 2 days and then engine light came back on with intermittent stalling and rough idling. Jeep is at dealer as we speak. Dealer stated they cannot duplicate the problem and will keep the vehicle overnight and try to duplicate the problem tomorrow.
While driving down a service road, my 2006 Jeep Commander stalled and the check engine light came on. It would not restart, and was towed to the dealership. The dealership says that the valve and valve seating came loose, and fell into my cylinder, damaging the piston. They are now saying that I need a new engine, as mine has too much damage to repair. I contacted Jeep customer care, and they are unwilling to repair the damage. The vehicle cost $12,500 and the new engine, only 2 months after purchasing it, will cost roughly $7,000 without including labor. From my research, this is a fairly common problem, that Jeep knows about, but is unwilling to fix.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. While driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that a sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000. The VIN was not available.
I have 2006 Jeep Commander in which I am experiencing issues with the ignition switch on my vehicle. The defective ignition switch causes every light on my dashboard to illuminate and it causes my vehicle to stall, as well as flickering lights with no power to fuel gauges, mph, and rpm needles. After all the lights illuminate and go away the check engine light stays on, and the defective ignition switch drains my battery causing my vehicle to not start without a jump start by the next day. With a slight tap on the key it will move some or a bump in the road will make the ignition switch start acting up and make some of the previously described symptoms act up. Occasionally there are clicks that come from the ignition switch after the vehicle has started, which signifies that the defective ignition switch is going to fail soon. I received the notification from the Chrysler corporation about the recall and that my vehicle is included in it, but haven't received the second notice to this date about when the part would be available. I called in November to check and see what can be done but I was told the same thing that no parts are available. So this leaves me at the end of the road with this vehicle. I check online almost all the time for updates and still the same thing. I have been following this recall since it popped up in the news before I received notification from Chrysler, because I have had this problem with my vehicle. I am scared for my life that the key will move into the wrong places disabling my car or when the ignition switch acts up it will make me loose control of my vehicle and it could be dangerous for me or any of my passengers even fatal. Safety should be chryslers number one priority. At this point I hope to get rid of this car and move away from Chrysler's products for good especially since fiat is running the show!.

On two separate occurrences so far, the Jeep has randomly stalled out at highway speeds in traffic. Accelerator and steering loose function. Other times it has nearly stalled but regained operation. Check engine light comes on with code for large vacuum leak? dealer was unable to find anything wrong and is currently evaluating again. Vehicle starts back up fine after pulling to side of road and removing and reinserting key. Safety issue to stall at highway speeds and lose power steering! this does not appear to be the first occurrence as there are many other complaints and a recall/investigation which noted it in 2007 vehicles but only issued a pcm recall for 2006 vehicles.

Driving on toll road at 65-70 mph when check engine light came on. Engine stalled, no power steering, had to pull over to the side of the road. Put in park, turned off ignition, and attempted to restart. It restarted but check engine light remained on. Drove to dealership. Dealer found one stored code, cleared it, performed diagnostic, found nothing, test drove.
