When driving at various speeds, the engine shuts completely off, causing loss of power steering and brakes. Jeep dealer said no recalls for this problem. Very dangerous condition, I have been almost involved in several accidents because of this. There are other people on the computer who have this same problem.

Transmission over temp is a never ending light that lights up daily. I've had 3 reprogrammed pcms and the ecm replaced as well. The car was also reprogrammed at the dealership twice with the results the same. It will work for a couple days then right back to the original issue and including a few more. Recently the trans over temp came on and stalled in rush hour traffic. Resulting in a almost serious accident. Several attempts made to restart the car. Started and stalled immediately. After the 4th time and reving the engine very hard it stayed running. I've called the recall line on this and several other recalls (1 that was under warranty) with no resolution. This is now a safety issue for me and others on the road. This car is a lemon and should be taken off the road. I've waisted money at the dealership being charged over $300 each time to reprogrammed with no improvement. Bought 3 pcms at $1200 each. I replaced almost everything under the hood and car with no positive results.

The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 160,948.
Tthe 4. 7 engine suddenly quits while driving, both at high and low speeds. . I have had to pull into breakdown lanes if any, with no powers steering, and at great risk coasting across lanes to safety. The Jeep dealer in my area said therenare no recalls, although many people have had the same experience with the engine quitting. This is an extremely dangerous defect, especially if you cant get over to a safe spot.
Original owner of this vehicle. Has 73,000 on 5. 7 hemi engine. Engine blew up on 12/25/2022. Only warning was the gauge went to overheat high red. Stopped vehicle, at fuel station and added more anti freeze. Gauge dropped to while normal range. Got back on highway drove 7 miles and enginle like came on and heat gauge went to high red then dropped to nothing. Got vehilcle off the road and it immediately shut down. Engine blew up. Had vehilcle towed to Jeep dealership 12/26/2022. Need engine replaced at only 73, 000 miles. Chrysler no longer makes this engine and a rebuilt will have to go into this vehicle. No offer or explanation of why this engine blew up with such low mileage. I was left stranded in 5 degree weather for about 45 minutes along interstate trying to get my roadside assistance to help. They couldn't speak understandable english. After 40 minutes of this call I ended up calling state police for help. I knew I was starting to go into hypothermia. State police arrived in minutes and put me in their car to warm me up and they called tow CO. That CO. Showed up in 15 minutes. I called Chrysler myself to try to find a new engine but they discontinued this engine in July 2022, early cut off for an engine. No new engines in inventory. No offer of any kind to assist or ask questions about possible injury/causes/or where the vehicle was. No engine should blow with this low mileage. Why did they cut off mfg of this engine so early? no answers. Vehicle is at hillview motors, greensburg, PA 15601(Jeep dealership) for repair. Jeep dealership inspected engine and determined it was blown. Only warning was guage went hot then engine blew. Nothing in the past on this vehicle.
The engine failed while driving at major intersection. Multiple individuals had to assist and avoid causing an accident. After a week at diagnostic Jeep service department, techs determined compression failure in cylinders 2 and 4 with 0 psi. There no codes or check engine lights other than a brief blinking right before failure.

Unknown. While my vehicle is set on cruise control and the weather is over 50 degrees or the air is running my cruise control will shut off. Warning lights abs, esp bas, & stability control will come on, then my cruise control won’t work anymore. Now just this morning going up a hill my car wouldn’t go pass 20 mph while my foot was to the floor basically. Then almost to the top of the hill it took off. The rmps went high Jeep shifted to next gear. Of course took my foot off petal and pushed brakes slightly. As slowing down it started shifting hard with high rmps still. I have done a new tune up and new transmission within the last 6 months. Before the new transmutation it was still doing this. The reason to replace the transmission was my Jeep just stopped completely moving. I don’t have the money to keep taking my Jeep back to the dealership for them to keep telling me they don’t know the problem. If nothing gets done about this sadly I will have to get rid of it. The cruise accrues when I’m on the highway going 60 to 65 mps. The shifting problem happen in town. Which both issues could cause a serious car wreck and harm to others and my self.
Woke up and it wouldn’t crank, been driving it every day, ignition module front control module may be bad like stated in the recall, won’t turn over or crank, transmission input output sensors idk maybe transmission module, wouldn’t go over 40 I’m wondering if my Jeep has problems like stated in the recall. Technicians at james ceranti Chrysler Dodge Jeep says it’s electrical.
The vehicle will completely shut down (stall) randomly while driving in motion. This happens randomly but consistently. This has happened while driving on highways in speeds of excess of 55mph and on other roads going as slow as 10mph or while in reverse. When this happens, the oil light and check engine light come on and the vehicle locks up with no power steering. The vehicle will start back up again after a few seconds when you turning the key.
Engine stalled at stop signs, daughter was driving the vehicle and engine stalled at an intersection. Not able to restart it. Vehicle was pushed to the side. I went to assist her and after many tries the engine restarted, I started to drive and the engine will stall as n DC shutdown at all stop signs/ traffic lights. I managed to drive it to the Jeep dealer shifting into neutral and pressing the gas to keep the engine running. No engine lights were present, temperature was normal and vehicle had 1/4 tank of gas. After a 5 days in the the dealer, they indicated that there is nothing wrong with the vehicle, no codes.
2006 Jeep Commander limited 5. 7l v8 message as appears on dash - transmission over temp while driving a short distance the message transmission over temp appears, the fan kicks on high & is very loud, and it feels like the transmission disengages like being thrown into neutral, but is still drivable. About 2 weeks prior, I noticed smoke coming out from under hood & the engine coolant tank was almost empty. There were no visible leaks on carport. I refilled the tank & immediately called kilby automotive repair shop, then took it in. They said that the radiator cap needed to be replaced. The also said the valve cover gasket was leaking. They replaced the radiator cap & made an appointment for June 3rd to replace the valve cover gasket. Before that appointment the vehicle started displaying the transmission over temp message. I took it into kilby automotive on may 27, 2021. They said it was a faulty transmission temperature sensor, but they could not repair. They have done a lot of repairs on the vehicle for several years. I called ultimate luxury auto service explaining the issue. The man said that he could put a new sensor in & there is a broken transmission mount. He replaced the sensor. Fix mount later. When I was driving home, the same message appeared & the fan kicked on as before. I messaged the shop & took the vehicle back in. They put a 2nd sensor in, drove it & received the same transmission over temp message. They returned the 2 new sensors & put my original sensor back in. They said they were sorry they could not fix it & dropped the price of repairs. I entered the make, model, & message online & found out a lot of people have the same problem. Some people have said they replaced numerous parts & it did not fix it, and others say they replaced the pcm. I am disabled and do not want to be stranded or have a vehicle fire. I am afraid that it would pose a risk to me & others, as transmission oil can ignite on hot surfaces and cause a fire in the engine.
I have a Jeep Commander 2007 limited. According to your recall dates my VIN number doesn’t fall within those dates for my car to have the recall. Although my Jeep is completely stallling out while driving 69 mph, I mean loss of all electrical inside my Jeep. Power steering fails, engine shuts off, I am lucky enough that my brakes still work but who is to say that won’t happen again. So when looking my VIN number up seeing that this is one of the recalls, my VIN number isnt part of the vehicles that was affected by the recall but I’m still encountering the same issue as the recall. I’ve taken it to my mechanic he cannot seem to find the problem. I need help I just bought this car! it’s our family car so it’s not only affecting me it’s my entire family. My husband, my two year older and my elderly parents.
This vehicle won't start and I guess it has a starter problem. That happening all the the time.
The Jeep randomly stutters, surges, and dies at the light. The brake light comes on and off and the brakes also feel like they stutter and/or shake when pressing on the pedal break.
Intermittent starting issue. This is my only vehicle, I have 2 kids with special needs and need to get to important appointments. I start my 2007 Jeep Commander, I get to where I am going, when I go to restart my vehicle it sometimes doesn't want to start. It will crank over just refuses to start. I have had multiple mechanics look at my Jeep and no one can figure out reasoning to this intermittent starting issue. I have put so much money and work into my Jeep for it to keep doing the same problem. The last mechanic I took it too seen code error in the display window on dash transmission over temp when he had tried to start it. It does not do this every time the will be days it continuously starts every time then there are days that it's intermittent, and days it will not start at all. The mechanic starting lookin on Jeep forums about this issue there are tons of reports of the same issue but no solution. My mechanic said Jeep is aware of the issue but there is no recalls on this issue. He said he believes it is a programming issue the car thinks the transmission is over temp so it sends signal to the engine that it's too hot and the engine sends signal to the fuel pump that there is a temperature issue do not turn on. When it cranks over it acts as if it isn't getting any fuel at all. I have purchased a new fuel pump and some other parts the issue is happening. I bought the Jeep in April of 2020 off of another owner, the issue didn't start with me until January of 2021, the previous owner mentioned anything about this happening to them when I asked them. Can something please be done about this issue so myself and thousands of other 2007 Jeep Commander owners can get back to enjoying our vehicles???? thank you for taking your time and reading this complaint.
While at stop light or in traffic vehicle will turn off, dashboard will light up after and vehicle will chime. This happened multiple times, this morning it happened 3 times within 15 minutes.
While driving the car will shit off for no reason. It appears to be something wrong I have a new battery and don't now why it's losing power. . It cuts off while driving and when I made a turn but also while driving straight . Also the wheels feels like they are wobbly while driving in the front.
2006 Jeep Commander vehicles is shutting off randomly while driving and the steering wheel is locking up. Also the lights on the dash board flicker randomly. Mechanics could not find anything wrong. There is no recalls on my specific VIN but for other 2006 Jeep Commanders. I do not want my family and I driving down the highway and it's does this and we die then you finally say oops yeah there's a recall on that. . .
Worst vehicle ever! we got it with around 98k miles on it, and it now only has 103k miles on it and in the last 4k we've put over $5k into it trying to get it to run. We had to put a new transmission in ($2k) and have the lifters in the engine replaced ($2,600). Currently it's been shutting off on its own a few seconds after I start it and giving random "transmission over temp" and "service 4x4 system" messages even though there's not a problem with those systems. I turn the key, it runs for 3 seconds, then shuts off. Sometimes it does this several times in a row and then won't start at all. Other times it starts fine so it's ridiculously hard to diagnose. Sometimes when it's doing it's shut down bit, you can get it to stay on a little longer by revving the engine, and it will let you pull out of the driveway, but then shuts off in the middle of the street. The sun roof leaks horrifically, even after I've tried the "clip the nipples off the bottom of the hoses" trick.
My Commander will simply shut off while at speeds and or idling. . . Very scary vary dangerous. Sometimes it will start right back up, but most wont start at all. I have had to tow it away. Luckily I have been able to manage shut offs . . . But I have no confidence in this vehicle anymore. Dont want to put kids in with me or tow anything or even just drive it. There are no codes, or explanation to it from my mechanic. . . Mystery. It's currently not starting now and kind of done with this issue. Chrysler. . . This needs a fix badly!.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated while driving at 55-65 mph, several unknown warning lights were illuminated and the vehicle lost electrical power temporarily. The contact stated that he veered to the side of the road and inspected the vehicle but could not determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that the failure could not be replicated. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring increasingly and the vehicle would stall while driving. Additionally, the contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the vehicle would go into limp mode and would not shift out of third gear. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring intermittently. The contact also stated that the transmission was shifting hard. The contact stated that the warning message "passenger air bag off" and the front passenger air bag warning light would illuminate when a lightweight passenger sat in the front passenger’s seat. The dealer was notified of the failures and informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under unknown recalls because the VIN was not included. The dealer referred the contact to the manufacturer for assistance. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.
Tl the contact owned a 2010 Jeep Commander. The contact stated while his wife was parked at the supermarket his wife attempted to start the vehicle twice with no avail. The third time she attempted she stepped out the vehicle after she smelled abnormal fumes and someone alerted her that there were flames coming from under the vehicle. The fire was located on the front passenger side where the engine was located. The fire department was called and extinguished the flames. There were no injuries. The vehicle was towed to a lot without being diagnosed as totaled. The dealer was not notified of the failure, and the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.
Upon starting the engine reads a high idle, drive the Jeep down the road and a red lightning bolt appears and then across the dash reads check gauges. At this point the coolant gauge quits working. If shut off and restarted the Jeep sometimes won't start and will say transmission overheating even when it's not. It will sound like the starter is stuck and keep trying to start until the key is removed. After about 20 minutes of it sitting it will now start and the gauges will work properly and no warning lights. Already replaced thermostat and temperature sensor.
I was driving to drop my son off at school and when I would press the gas, it wasn't moving like it should've been. It was barely moving, you could engine rev but it wasn't moving and didn't move until it got to 2, ig 2nd gear on the dash.
Repeated transmission over temp error messages displayed on dash. Error is intermittent, occasionally causing vehicle to turn off unexpectedly during operation. Happens while driving in normal conditions.
Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that the when the vehicle was travelling on a short trips the engine would emit vapor fumes. This would delay the vehicle from being able to be restarted for an extended period time . The dealer performance Chrysler Jeep Dodge ram georgesville 1130 auto mall dr, columbus, OH 43228 (614) 272-0000. Tested the vehicle but could not come up with an exact diagnosis. An independent mechanic was able to remedy the issue by taping up the fuel line and the issue was fixed. The manufacturer did nothing but to refer the contact to call NHTSA. The failure mileage was 160,000. Tf.
This morning I was driving into work, when my car wasn't getting enough power to move. Each time I would give it gas, it would sputter at me. This has been a constant problem since I bought a year ago. . . I would like to know what the problem is so I can fix it.
Tl the contact owns a 2008 Jeep Commander. When the vehicle was started, the pin, valve, and engine detached without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who referred the contact to the manufacturer. The contact also called a repair shop. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Having loss of gas fuel and oil constantly lose every week as I driving on the highway. .
Takata recall I was driving along as normal on the city street with minimal and my vehicle cut off on its own. It will not turn over or even try to turn over.
Takata recall about a month ago I was traveling at 70mph on the interstate. When exiting the interstate my car just shut it's self off. No warning lights, sounds, etc. We tried for about 20 mins to get it to start back and stay running once running we took it straight to a mechanic who put it on a machine. No problems showed up on the machine at all and it's been fine ever since until today. This time my husband was driving and the exact same thing happened again.
Intermittent inability to start vehicle. My Jeep Commander 2006 has a problem that is being discussed all over the internet in chat rooms and blogs but is not being acknowledged by Jeep. The issue occurred when Jeep was in parked position. I am a disabled man and I was left stranded in very cold weather for two hours with a car that would not start. It had nothing to do with the starter, or the solenoid. This seems to be a serious issue with Jeeps and a safety issue to the owner especially if the owner is stranded and has no heat and unable to walk to get help. I am requesting NHTSA to look into this because Jeep is stonewalling the public and this is a serious and dangerous issue that the public should be aware of by way of a recall. People rely upon their automobiles and expect them to operate accordingly and not to have random and intermittent engine non starts for no apparent reason and with no explanation from Jeep and no solution to the problem going on 9 years now. Please investigate this widespread problem known to be an issue with Jeep Commander.
While sitting at a light. My Jeep just died out on me. No reason nothing acting outside of the normal. Tried to restart and after a few tries was able to restart.
