Jeep shuts down while drive down road, Jeep restarts without issue, and will run without problems. This has been the 11th time this has happens, this time I was also rear ended by a semi truck. I have had this looked at from Dodge many times over the years, but they can't seem to find the issue,or don't care too. But to there def fence it only happens ever so often.

With no warning,(no noise from engine) traveling about 25mph engine light flash on, lost all engine power, became hard to steer, was able to safely pull the vehicle out of the road. Later learned that the timing chain broke. I also learned that Chrysler corporation recalled this engine 5. 7 hemi in other products, but not the Jeep. This is a time bomb.

I drove to a gas station about 5 miles from my home to fuel up. After fueling up, I tried to start the engine and it ran rough for less than a second and then shut off. I tried to start it again and it ran but had a loud knock so I immediately shut the engine off. I towed it to the local dealership who said I had a dropped valve seat and would need to replace the engine. The odometer was at 106,000 miles when this happened.
It keeps shutting off and almost caused me an accident with my child in the car several times. And at times seem to stear all over the road when on a highway.
Tl the contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle accelerated forward and the check engine indicator illuminated. The contact called a local dealer (twin city Dodge Chrysler, 650 sagamore pkwy s, lafayette, in 47905) and was informed to schedule a service appointment. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 154,197.
"takata recall" I own a 2008 Jeep Commander with a 3. 7 liter engine. I always made my oil change at 50,000 miles or 6 months intervals. I have learned that Jeep Chrysler and Dodge vehicles produced from 2005 to 2012 all have the same problem of the oil pickup tube not working properly or gets clogged with slim so tht no engine oil reaches the pistons and cylinder head. While driving, my engine threw a piston rod trough the engine block and into the oil pan. I am sure that Jeep knew of the problem with the oil pickup tube but did nothing to correct the problem since the engine would have to be pulled from the vehicle to replace the oil pickup tube. I love my Jeep but again, Jeep knew about this issue with the 3. 7l engine with the 8th digit of the VIN being k. Jeep/Dodge/Chrysler should be responsible for the repairs of these vehicles especially when the engine is now blown all due to a defective oil pickup tube. The customers/owners of these vehicles with the 3,7l engine should be able to get a new engine for free if the engine block has become damaged or replace the oil pickup tubes for those who have yet to have their engine blown. I have seen many complaints about this engine and this was one of the top issue and that being a bad oil pickup tube which causes internal damage to the engine. I was driving in town taking btrash to the dump when it threw a cylinder and sounded like broken metal in the engine. Engine lost compression and had to have vehicle towed home. What I thought may be a starter problem, I noticed that the cylinder actually went thru the block and oil pan. Google up Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler oil pickup tube complaints, you will find that their are many complaints about this issue mainly effecting the vehicles from 2005 to 2012 with the 8th digit of the VIN being a letter (k). Like to get my engine replaced with a good used engine at no cost to me.
I was driving down the freeway and the engine down shifted hard and the engine light came on. I pulled over, turned my vehicle off, turned my vehicle back on, and it drove just fine. I went to get the engine light checked and the code that came back was the map sensor. I just replaced the map sensor two months prior.
Valve seat dropped into engine causing catostaphic failure. Engine will not idle. The engine is completely destroyed. Out of warranty. Replacement cost is $6700. 00. I will never again buy Chrysler, Dodge or Jeep product again. The failur hapoened upon startup with no warning.
I was driving down the road and the vehicle down shifted hard and the engine light came on. I pulled over turned my vehicle off and turned it back on and it started and drove just fine.
There was a valve seat that fell out of the head which caused major internal damage to the motor. This motor only had 120k miles on it and did not have any other issues. When this happened the vehicle had been driven for approximately 20 minutes, shut off and then when it was started again it had the issue.
My front differential is broken and I have no idea how it broke. It could potentially be as simple as wear and tear on the vehicle, as it is 10 years old. However, the problem is extremely dangerous and can result in loss of control and/or a crash.
I was driving at a steady pace on the freeway and the engine light came on. I pulled over and the power steering went out as well as the brakes. I turned off my vehicle, restarted it, and was able to drive with no problems afterwards.
I was driving on the freeway and all of a sudden the engine light turned on and my rpms dropped to zero. I pulled over, the power steering went out and the ability to brake went out. I turned the vehicle off and on and then it was fine, however, the engine light was still on. There were no codes when I went to a mechanic five minutes after the incident. This is the second time this has happened.
My Jeep is losing power while driving. This has happened on numerous occasions and when I take it to be looked at, I can never get a straight answer. I continue being told it's transmission issue (transmission oil cooler, fluid, lines). My car slightly jerks into get when shifting from part to another gear, and the parking assist message flashes on. After reading all the similar complaints online it seems the issue may be with the shift module. With so many complaints it would be nice if this could be a recall and corrected.
Vehicle completely shut down on freeway due to recall causing anxiety, fear of life and potential accident on major highway. The ignition switch on your vehicle may experience an unintended change in ignition switch position while driving. This may result in a loss of engine power, power steering assist, power brake assist or disable the airbag function. Disabling one or more of the vehicle's safety features could increase the risk of vehicle occupant injury during a crash and/or cause a crash without warning.
Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander 4x4. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a independent mechanic. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 160,000. Ap.
My car all of the sudden wouldn't turn on, it said damaged key, the key is fine, it unlocks and locks without a problem, but the car wont start. I've been told is the win.
My vehicle would no longer accelerate in traffic causing me to almost get hit in the rear of the vehicle. I could do nothing but coast and brake. All gears became highlighted which were not previously. I am worried if this continues to happen I will be in an accident. This seems to be a common encounter among Jeep owners but there is no recall.
While attempting to start the Jeep, the engine keeps turning over while the motor will not start. Does it randomly.
On christmas I backed the Jeep out of the driveway so I could drive my truck. Bumped the curb slightly while parking and vehicle died. Started right back up so I didn't think much of it. Today my wife took the kids to school in it and ran fine. Parked for two hours and went to start and it will crank but not turn over. Fuel guage doesn't read correctly. At full it says half a tank and while you are driving it may drop to below empty with a full tank. I have been reading all the reports about the 2006 Commander and a lot of people seem to be having this starting problem. I haul my family around in it because we can't all fit in my truck but I don't feel safe in it because you never know when it's gonna cut out and die. My kids range from 1 week to 11 and I don't really want them in it. I'm thinking it a fuel pump or wiring issue. Both issues occurred in my driveway or right in front of my house.
2006 Jeep Commander 4x4 dies at low speed. Almost caused accident on freeway. Had the ignition recall taken care of. Hoping that it was the problem. It was not. . . Now trying to sell vehicle and don't want to cuz I would have to have someone else get hurt. In that death trap the Jeep now sits in my side yard my wife refuses to drive it. I'm looking for any ideas on what to do? please help.
My 2007 Commander has a p41 recall. Fri. Dec 9,2016 ,the wolfchase Jeep tech informed me that the ignition switch was replaced, but car still will not start. The tech told me the Jeep needed a orc module to start the Jeep. Part not available and needed 3-5 days to order and repair. My out of pocket expense will be $510-$520. The Jeep was parked on sat. Dec 9. I attempted to start the Jeep, would not start. Please advise. Thanks.
The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Commander. While stationary, the vehicle would not start when prompted. The vehicle was taken to be repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 200,000.
Tranmissiom going out. Gear not shifting into drive.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. While driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle lost power and shut down. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and restarted, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where twelve warning codes were produced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure was not remedied. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
Takata recall the motor keeps dying while driving. I took it to a mechanic that told me that the motor was defective and the motor has to be replaced. The engine only has less than 85000 miles. The mechanic told us to buy a jasper motor because jasper made changes to the motor because the original motor was defective. Mopar no longer makes the motor and referred us to an aer motor. The parts department at Chrysler said that they are not sure or not if the original mopar motor has made the same changes to the motor that jasper has made. Jasper states that changes have been made to the motor and specifically states that improvements have been made to solve the defective issues of an original 2006 motor. I am not the only one it has happened to. Motors were being repalcesdat 75,000 miles are a common problem according to google on this model.
I went to start my 2006 Jeep Commander and it would turn over, but it would not start. I finally worked with it a little bit and got it to start, but then my power steering went out. I cut it off and tried it again and everything went back to normal. However, when I got going, there was a horrible gas smell coming from the rear of the vehicle. This starting issue has happened multiple times and every time the power steering goes out. The vehicle was stationary at a public place after it had been running for about 30 minutes.
Timing chain broke on motor causing catastrophic damage to the v8 hemi. Recalls on other vehicles with this motor but Chrysler says not enough people have complained to cause recall on Jeep. Stupid answer. Problem is not the vehicle motor is in its the motor. Jeep was still financed so had to pay out of pocket for a new motor while still paying for the Jeep.
For a number of years now I intermittently receive a "transmission over temp" message in my dash and the car won't start for about 24 hours later. This usually happens after a good rain. I will drive to somewhere and then park for about 10 minutes. When I try to start the vehicle, it doesn't start until about 24 hours later. I replaced the battery and still have the same issue. Auto shops were not able to fix this issue and no one seems to have a clue how to fix this. Right now the vehicle is unreliable as if I go somewhere there is a risk that I will be stranded.
For the passed 3 years our vehicle has switched gears from drive to 3rd gear, while driving. The vehicle jolts and changes gear for a few months and returns back to normal. We continue to use it at 3rd gear. There is no way to change it back to drive mannually. We've taken it in to auto shops and the symptoms return.
Radiator coolant system failed and caused the engine to overheat and loss of power while traveling on an interstate highway. Pulled over to side of highway. The vehicle was towed to a private mechanic shop. The shop evaluated the engine could not start as it had seized from overheating. It was determined that the radiator plastic end caps suddenly failed causing the engine to overheat and seize. The radiator temperature is very high and the plastic and aluminum materials expand and contract at different rates therefore weakening the connection between the two materials until the part fails. This is a bad design, application, and mix of materials in a part that does follow the basic principles of thermodynamics.
The battery light came on close to my home I continue to drive and when I open the hood the alternator was smoking and smelled like it was burning it was so hard it almost caught on fire there was no flame but there was lots of smoke.
