11 Engine problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 05/07/2007

I have a 2006 Commander which tries to die when idling. While waiting in line at bank or at stop signs/lights. The rpms drop from usually 1000rpm to below 500rpm. I have found that it will only do this in drive. If I shift it into neutral, the rpms immediately go back up. It has happened for the past year, at least twice a month.

12 Engine problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 03/09/2007

On a number of occasions while driving my 2006 Jeep Commander limited's engine has shut off. The power steering goes out, the engine cuts off and you are just sitting there. This is incredibly dangerous as there is always traffic and you don't have the steering to easily move your car to a safe place. This needs to be addressed immediately by Chrysler.

13 Engine problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 02/01/2007

*while driving down a level highway at about 70 mph, while using cruise, the rpms jumped drastically as if going into overdrive. Although it shifted for whatever reason, as I stated it was flat ground, there was no pick up speed. **however, at other times I have had the 2006 Jeep Commander accelerate for no reason. I was not pushing on the gas and it has happened while in cruise. ***I have also experienced sputtering mostly at about 40 mph but it has happened at speeds around 70 mph on the highway. Thankfully traffic has been clear enough to regain proper control. No pattern. I took it to the dealer after they told me to look for a pattern and there wasn't one. There were no error codes and the "situation could not be duplicated". Not real pleased. I am listing each type of failure separately on this site. I am also simply using a basic date because it has happened multiple times. When I picked up the Jeep I was told it's a big motor and people just aren't used to driving them. My husband was raised on a farm, so he knows "big motors". Not acceptable. It feels very unsafe.

14 Engine problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 06/01/2006

The car goes completely dead while being driven. Electrical, steering, brakes, everything goes out. The car is moving when this happens. It has never quit running while stopped, which would not be as dangerous. Have to struggle to control the car and bring it to a stop, while traffic is coming at me from all sides. When I put it in park and start it up, it runs fine. This has happened 9 times in less than a year. It's potentially deadly to the driver and passengers in the car, and any other cars or pedestrians in the vicinity. I've complained many times but the service dept. Discouraged me from bringing it in since it didn't happen every time I drove the car, but finally got so bad I took it in. Two times they could not find out what the problem is. Now the car has a monitor hooked up to it to record any fault codes. However, I will not drive the car. It is parked in the driveway and I am driving my daughter's car. We have filed a lemon law complaint and will pursue vigorously for the car to be repurchased so I can buy a different car that doesn't put me and my family in harm's way.

15 Engine problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 03/28/2006

My new 2006 Jeep Commander now shuts the engine off at will while driving. I was exiting I-4 onto cr579 going just under 40 mph when the steering went out (so I thought) all gauges were lit I rolled off onto the side of the road once in neutral the truck restarted. I dropped it at courtesy Chrysler 3/29 and was informed prior to inspection that the problem had been seen on the Commanders and was apparently prevalent on the pacifica model however there was nothing they could do if no code came up so at this point I am expected to pick the truck up tell my wife to drive around my children as if things are a ok. Spoke to the service manager who stated that he is aware of the problem and he would check to see if DC is working on anything to fix it and if not he will tell me(very comforting) the dealership is very very helpful and professional but apparently just don't know what to do.
