4 Car Stall problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 02/02/2020

Our 2006 Jeep Commander has had a recurring problem of stalling at random times, while both driving and idling. Every day we start the vehicle but cannot drive it right away because it stalls out if we don't wait at least 5 minutes to "warm it up". Another example, we were driving on a city street and turning left in an intersection and it stalled out while in motion and lost control of steering and braking. I noticed that there have been recalls for thousands of 2006 Jeep Commanders, but our VIN # shows no recalls for our car. We are having the same exact problem with this truck as the other owners of recalled 2006 Jeep Commanders. It is currently in the shop for the third time and the mechanics cannot recreate the stall while moving issue and cannot figure out why it is hesitating and stalling. This is my 16 year old new driver's vehicle and I'm afraid for her safety.

5 Car Stall problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 11/07/2019

I bought this Jeep 10-4-19. Since I've owned the vehicle it has stalled multiple time while going down the road. The first time it happen was with my 18 year old daughter. I first thought she just did something wrong and didn't think much of the issue. Until I was taking my son to a baseball camp in ut knoxville. It died on us twice while going down the interstate. Luckily, I was able to pull off the side of the road. It took us about 5-10 minutes and it finally would start back up and run normal. On the trip home it ran fine until we crossed over the georgia state line and it died one more time. I have replaced the battery. I read somewhere that it was a grounding issue so I pulled the ground wires off to make sure they are touching metal. This hasn't helped and the vehicle will still stall while driving or at stop lights. I bought this for my kids to drive but like everyone else I've read about. I'm afraid to let my kids or wife drive this car. I don't have the money to buy another vehicle. Any help would be greatly appreciated considering this seems to be a known issue. I've started documenting the times it stalls to see if there is a pattern. 11/7/19 8 pm in traffic, 11/12/19 8 am in traffic, 11/20/19 lows parking lot, 12/2/19 10:17 pm at red light - then again 10:29 at another red light down the road. Also the speeds were from 35 mph to 75 mph doesn't matter.

6 Car Stall problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 10/13/2019

I have a 06 Jeep Commander with the 5. 7 hemi. I have been having a problem tied the vehicle stalling at random time. Most of the time it is while the vehicle is in motion. A few times at highway speeds. Also and I dont know if its coincides but the Jeep will buck like you hit something and the traction control light will illuminate and stay on. (dry roads). Thank god no accidents but was told by countless Jeep dealers there is no issue.

7 Car Stall problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 10/12/2019

This issue has happened three times now, I have been driving on the freeway at about 70 mph and all of a sudden there is a ding on the dash board and the car stalls, and the engine light comes on. Once you shut down the car and start it again the car works fine but the engine light stays on for a couple of hours, according to Jeep they charge for a diagnosis and I see online that this is happening a lot in my type of vehicle but Jeep has yet to acknowledge it. I think it is very dangerous since I have been driving on a freeway where people are driving as fast or faster than me and could cause a problem.

The 2007 Jeep Commander I own is having a fuel pump relay issue. It will not start but continuously turns over also we have had the car stall out on the highway at high speeds making it a rather dangerous situation. Many of the vehicles from 07 and up had a recall for this exact reason but unfortunately mine was not covered under this recall. While driving at 60 mph on the highway, my Jeep has jolted like it had lost power for a brief moment. The jolt was severe enough that it made my arms ache from it. This worries me as I have read many complaints about complete stalls at high speeds and this could cause a severe accident. My Jeep has 150,000 miles on it. This issue needs to be investigated before there is a fatality.

12 Car Stall problem of the 2009 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 10/01/2018

My 2009 Jeep Commander stalled and finally cut off while driving. Everything completely shuts down and have to restart the engine immediately. It has happened 4 times now in approximately last four months. This condition has happened twice while my daughter was driving, and twice while my wife was driving. It is at random, and at different speeds of 35mph to 45mph on a city street. So frightening. The vehicle was purchased used in August of 2010 with 38+k miles on it. It has 141000mile now. I have replaced the ignition key a few months age. I have made an appointment to take it to the dealership. Any suggestions on what might cause this to happen? my wife is not driving the Jeep anymore. Last incident was on 10/1/2018.

13 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 07/27/2018

" takata recall" I am the original owner of a 2010 Jeep Commander. Unfortunately, this past week the timing chain broke and left me stranded on the side of the road. Thank goodness it was not during rush hour. There was no warning and could have caused an accident. Let me start by stating that this Jeep has been meticulously cared for from day 1 and every recommended service and oil change has been done on time. This is our family car and not an off road toy. I drove my Jeep with respect and care. So, how and why did the timing chain break and destroy the engine? I called 3 other local Jeep dealerships asking this question and the response was the same with each Chrysler mechanic never heard of this on the Jeep Commander after doing some research online, I did find several chat boards and an article in hot rod magazine talking about the 5. 7l hemi timing chain breaking in challengers, chargers and 300s. Eventually, there was a recall to address the issue. According to several sources, my Commander has the same engine from the same time period the recall occurred. So why are Jeep's not included? Chrysler knows this is an issue and have chose not to address it. This could have been bad, had my vehicle stalled out the way it did on the highway in rush hour.

19 Car Stall problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 12/20/2017

Jeep Commander 2006 limited 5. 7 l engine. The complaint is as follows: while driving, at random, slow and medium speeds, all the dashboard lights activate at one time followed by immediate loss of engine power. (at no time did my knee hit the key or ignition cylinder) this issue does not clear up on its own. The only solution to avoid an accident is to immediately put into neutral, pull off the road or highway as quickly as possible. (at this time, the car is sputtering severely or stalls) next step- turn the key to off position, wait a few seconds and re start the vehicle. It starts and runs normally. The loss of power and dash light activation is occurring every other day. Upon my own further investigation, many reports have been logged (with basically the same complaint) on carcomplaints. Com, with additional video proof on u tube ( just type in Jeep Commander dashboard haywire) with several videos of the incident. Chyrsler customer care claims ( as of today) to know nothing about it - told me to call local dealer, local Jeep dealer (car was purchased new) was contacted- they claim to now nothing about it. Told both agencies to get off their butt to look at car complaints. Com or just view the numerous u tube videos. With this many complaints, I find it surprising that Chrysler to not be aware of this issue. I have followed all recalls and had the ignition lock cylinder and reprogram the final drive control module completed many months before problem occurred. Any assistance in resolving this serious safety issue would be greatly appreciated.

Failure Date: 10/16/2017

I have own this car for 5 years and it did shut down on me due to I did hit the ingestion switch with my knee as we were going down the interstate. A couple years go after that with no issue. Now my 17 year old girl drives it now with no issue. Got recall littler ignition switch replacement. Got switch replaced and one for a re-flash on the power train. Now after that it has stalled out on my daughter 2 times a mouth apart when stop to make a turn going to school. Took to the dealer and they said it was a faulty front control module and only going off of stored codes b211e & b211a and don't know how many counts or how old they are. The service writer could not tell me that is a fix and the tech said that is what it need . I took the car home and I can not find these codes anywhere online. I did find a lot of complaints of this same thing and the fcm has been replaced with many other sensors and they still have the same issue. So that my have saved me over $500 that may or may not fix it. . I the parent am driving the car now till I can this figured out. If there are updated resolving this issue with the same problem please advise. Don't what to just throw away money on parts that is not on me but more of a safety issue on the Jeep company end that needs to fix this. Thanks for your time.

22 Car Stall problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 10/08/2017

While driving at slow speeds, the vehicle stalls out, obviously resulting in a loss of power steering & brakes. This has happened 50+/- times over the last 2 years of my ownership. The problem has intensified over the last 2 weeks, but would always re start after shifting into park. Last night (10/8/2017) it happened again. This time while merging onto a highway at 55 mph. The vehicle suddenly lost power as I coasted to the side of the highway. This time it would not start & I had to have the vehicle towed. Through on-line research, this is a common problem on the Jeep Commander (4. 7l) dating back to when the vehicles were new. The fix for the problem varies greatly. Given the timeline for this problem, its obvious this is a problem that daimler Chrysler (now fiat Chrysler USA) is aware of & makes no attempt at a solution.
