I purchased the vehicle in 2010 and within a month some electrical issues were intermittently occurring. The dealer said the ignition had to be replaced and did so. These problems seemed to continue thought not often. The symptoms are as follows-first the lights start flickering and then go out. All of the dash components go out including the speedometer, fuel gage, radio etc. The ac fan also turned off. This condition did not stop the vehicle from running it just turned off the electrical components there was however a problem with stalling, a separate issue from the electrical issue. , a few times while in the vehicle was stopped it would stall when stopping or starting off again. This was true in reverse and forward. I was never really worried about safety until last night when the lights went out while driving on a dark curvy country road. It was only for a few seconds but it was terrifying. This issue needs to be dealt with. In 2015 there were several recalls issued and they seemed to be related to the problems I was having. I had all of the recall notices dealt with. The software upgrades and the ignition replacement. This didn't solve the problem. In fact it.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 70 mph, the vehicle stalled. The contact had to maneuver to the side of the road and noticed all the warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was shifted to park and restarted normally but the check engine warning indicator was illuminated. The contact stated also that the same failure occurred for approximately three years. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The vehicle was repaired under an ignition switch manufacturers recall two years ago. The vehicle was not repaired this time. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 128,000. The VIN was not available.
Stalling problems while driving. This issue has been going on for over a year now, I was told by Jeep to get p41 recall repaired and possibly fix the problem. I've had p41 done and the same problem keeps happening. Everything just completely shuts down and I am unable to steer and have to restart the engine. This has happened to me numerous of times including driving on the freeway. I've contacted Jeep customer service, I was told I was the only one they know of regarding this issue which is not true. Another problem is dashboard lights will light up on and off while driving. All light indicators will stay on for period of time until car is restarted again.
When driving my Jeep Commander it stalls. It happens when I am stopped and try to go or when I slow down then try and accelerate. My life has been at risk when this happens. One of the times I was driving on the interstate going 65mph and it stalled. I am extremely upset about this especially since I have a 2 year old son that is in the car with me.
Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that while driving at 25 mph, the vehicle stalled. As a result another vehicle crashed into the passenger's side of the vehicle and the air bags failed to deploy. The contact sustained neck injuries that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed from the crash scene to auto body repair center for body repair and replacement of the steering wheel. The vehicle was not diagnosed for the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system) the failure mileage was 90,000. Oo.
The Jeep will stall out while decelerating every few months for the last couple of years. Most of the time it has been while approaching an intersection from speeds of 30-45 mph, so I have learned to pop the transmission into neutral to restart the car while in motion. This is horribly scary and dangerous since I obviously cannot steer during the process, and have, at least four times, been making a left-hand turn across traffic. I have taken my car into the dealership numerous times, but they don't even log me in because they say that since I have no illuminated indicator light, they will not be able to pinpoint the problem. This is so dangerous that I would get rid of the car, except that I cannot replace it with anything comparable. I love my Jeep and just want it to not try to kill me.

This is in response to the recall for the ignition switch on my 2006 Jeep Commander. My vehicle has had the ignition switch replaced at the dealership but you should know that the replacement does not cure the problems that it was meant to fix. The work was completed at 9:30am and the next time I drove that day,it did the same exact shutdown as it did before (with all lights on the dash flashing). The stalling and shutdown does not occur because of hitting the key with your leg as I am only 5'4" and my leg doesn't touch the ignition. The shutdown occurs because of a short somewhere inside the ignition. It occurs randomly and sometimes can be stopped by lightly turning the key to the left. I have also found that the shutdown occurs at extreme frequency when driving in heavy rain or extremely slushy roads, which tells me that somewhere, something is getting wet and shorting the vehicle out. It is very hard to get the lights to stop flashing in this type of weather and I have had to pull over a couple times because of the danger of stalling in traffic. I am stuck with this dangerous vehicle because of my financial situation and have fought for something to be done about it by the dealer starting 20 days after I bought it but of course nothing was done until the government got involved and sadly it still hasn't cured the problem. I hope you receive more complaints and make the dealership correct the problem the right way. Thank you for your time, tracy l. Field.
While driving my 2007 Jeep Commander, it will shut off. Other times the lights will flicker off and car seems to stall. This problem happens without any warning. It is very scary to be driving on the interstate and the car just stops!!! I have four children that I drive around, so this can not happen! I have read where there have been many complaints about this and nothing has been done. That is unacceptable because lives are at risk. I'm taking the vehicle in for the ignition switch recall, but I have read where that has not fixed the issue I am having.

Jeep has total loss of power, control, and steering while driving. Car will no start unless in park or neutral, losses all power electrical and steering once you let foot off of the accelerator. I almost ran into another vehicle while heading hope and was nearly rear ended at another intersection due to stalling and no control. All of this happened within hours of ed voyles Jeep replacing the ignition switch p41 recall. Super super dangerous. . .
After owning the vehicle for several months I had a car accident where a man ran into the back of my 2008 Jeep Commander due to the vehicle stalled on a street and then shut off. I took the vehicle to the dealer and they could not find anything wrong with the engine. I have driven the vehicle for years without major incident. However here lately the vehicle has stalled and then shut off while driving at speeds between 45-55mph. I have had 2 types of recall work done. However that has not corrected the problem and the car right now is back at the dealer.

In Jan 2015 our key fob got stuck in the ignition of our 2008 Jeep Commander. A day later,we were able to free it. On 2/19/15 it would not start and we had to have it jump started twice. Once started it drove without issues for 3 days. Then on 2/23/15, the Jeep would not start and the key fob got stuck in the ignition. The Jeep could not move and could not be taken out of park. The only thing that worked were the lights. We tried to jump start the vehicle and tried everything we could think of to release the key from the ignition. The fob would not release so we had to have the Jeep towed to the dealership where we purchased it. The mechanic tested the Jeep (battery tested fine). They called Chrysler to see if they had any parts to fix the issue and discovered that the issue with our Jeep was a faulty ignition. The mechanic got the fob released from the ignition by unplugging the battery. He could not guarantee how long this would work. We called the recall hotline and confirmed our Jeep Commander was listed on recall p57. However, Chrysler has no fix at this time. The hotline advised us to get a hold of a Chrysler dealership and get a rental car free of charge through them until the Jeep could be fixed (at an unknown future date). The local Chrysler dealership refused to give us a rental and said they could not look at the Jeep for a few weeks. On 2/28 the Jeep would not start again so we had to purchase a new battery (at our expense). Because of the p57 ignition recall we are worried that we have an unreliable vehicle and that it could also stall while driving and cause an accident with injury or death. We feel unsafe in the Jeep! we want Chrysler to fix these unsafe ignitions immediately and in the meantime provide us free alternative transportation and reimbursement for our expenses.
My vehicle constantly stalls while slowing down to almost a stop or a stops. It happens almost every time now. When slowing down for a light while traffic is slowly moving my Jeep stalls and I've almost been hit 5 times now. Not good.
While traveling at highway speed and after about 1. 5 hours of continuous highway operation, the vehicle stalled without warning. I was able to safely move to the emergency lane and brake to a stop. I placed the vehicle in park, turned the key to off, and re-started without incident. Since the first occurrence, this has happened almost daily, always at highway speeds and sometimes while on a curve. This occurs during my daily commute, which is approximately 20 miles, each way.

I was slowly pulling through a stop light (stop and go traffic up to it). Jeep suddenly lost power of all kinds - stalled engine, no emergency flashers, no radio, nothing. Tried to turn key & restart it a # of times but it was dead. Ambulance drove by, stopped & pushed me out of the road. As they were pushing me, electrical came back on. So I tried to turn key again and car started. **I am pretty confident that my knee did not touch the key- I am too short for that and also the car would not restart once stalled- I turned key many times to tr and get out of the road and car remained dead/powerless. All electrical was off. Once car came back on, radio stations no longer programmed, etc. Much like the battery had died. ** plz note, mileage is estimated- I need to go look inside car.
This has happened repeatedly since purchasing vehicle in sept 2015. At highway speeds the vehicle either; a) lurches all electronics die and then quickly comes back to power, or b) the vehicle stalls. The vehicle has been to dealer for repair 4 times and service does not fix.

All of my safety warning lights flash on and off repeatedly. When this happens my car electrical things turn off including the ac,radio and everything else. The engine how ever did not. The car kept running but everything else stalled and turned off and on. . The first time was on the street but it continued even on the freeway going 60 mph. I took to dealer and they stated nothing is wrong. They could not find anythin. They even put in on the computer machine and nothing. I have only had vehicle for 2 months and im very worried. I have no other transportation and have to drive the vehicle to work and my kids around. I have a video of how the car kept doing that. If someone can contact me , I would be more than happy to send the vehicle video over.
Driving at 58-60mph car stalled very briefly,a second or so, chimed once and then kept going, after about 1/2hr driving same speed my car did the exact same thing, stalled,we actually lurched forward in our seat, then 40 min later car did it again. 3 times total. I pulled off the highway and shut my car off and then drove without problems.
9/13/14 at 0945, the vehicles engine light came on and vehicle started stalling. Vehicle was taking to firestone and diagnostic service(engine analysis). Mechanic stated that they could not find anything wrong beside the throttle body was dirty. We had the throttle cleaned. 9/13/14 at 1325 while traveling on multi-lane free way. Vehicle stalled and choked smoked. Vehicle was able to start and merge on to an exit and stalled again, several time before we were able to move out the way of traffic. Had vehicle towed to another firestone. At that time another engine analysis was completed. After a few hours we we're inform that cylinder 1, 2, and 4 were lost/failed. Also that it would not have been notice during a normal check-up and that they could not fixed it was a manufacturer issue.
While merging on to the highway the Jeep's esp suddenly engaged and cut engine power. The Jeep stalled and had to be maneuvered off the highway. This is happening with great regularity, usually while merging on an uphill on-ramp. The dealer looked at the Jeep and has not been able to fix the problem. Chrysler was contacted and said they could not help since the warranty was expired. This is a serious safety issue.
