36 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2008 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 05/06/2013

I've been having issues with my '08 Commander for several months now. The sunroof leaked and water got into the dashboard, shorting the radio out. Dealer fixed sunroof seal and radio. On the drive home from the dealer, dashboard lights started flashing. Returned to dealer the next day, but they could not locate a problem. Three days later, car would shut off while driving and all dashboard lights would flash. Returned to dealer, they were unable to "duplicate" issue. Tech from dealer drove car for 1 day and he could not find an issue. One week later, car smelled horrible of fuel and car would shut off while driving. Returned to dealer and dealer replaced O2 sensor. Picked up car and on my way home, lights flashed, car stalled and smelled worse of fuel. Immediately returned to dealer, dealer replaced a second O2 sensor. Picked up car, 5 miles from dealer, check engine light came on. Called dealer and he said to drive car until the engine "reset"(about 10 miles) or until light began flashing, then bring it in since they can not find a real problem. Issue seemed to resolve for a couple weeks of not driving car much, but then the dashboard lights began flashing again, car smelled of fuel and car seemed bogged down. Today, car barely started and was very bogged down. Attempted to drive, but check engine light came on and flashed repeatedly. Car would not go over 40mph, shook horribly and finally shut off. I am afraid to drive this car with my child inside. I am a disabled single mother and I need a dependable car and definitely not one thats going to keep costing me money. I have a warranty that I purchased with the car, but it seems to still cost an arm and a leg to get this car running for a few days before it chokes up again. This car has sucked up all my savings and still no resolution to the problem.

37 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

38 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 02/28/2013

While driving on an interstate at 65mph my check engine light came on, a message stating "service parking assist system" appeared, and drnp was blocked on the front dash. The vehicle lost power and acceleration and began to feel as if the emergency brake was applied at full force. I pulled off the highway, turned the car off and back on and the check engine light remains on. Online research suggests this is a common problem involving the electronic shifting module and/or connection issues with the rear parking assist sensors. This pervasive problem should be rectified with a recall at no cost to customers.

39 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 02/03/2013

The Commander was sluggish on a trip to florida, when I would press the accelerator, it would hesitate and sputter. The month before this trip, I just had the transmission serviced at 60k to keep the power train warranty intact. So figured something was done incorrectly at the dealership and we would deal with it when we returned home. I wish we would have found a repair shop in FL to look into it as the Jeep turned off on us going 74 mph on I-95. We almost got rear ended by a semi. We drove 65 the rest of the way home and it was one of the scariest moments of my life. I took it back to the dealership and they read the code and cleared the code like they did previously when it would do a hard downshift with a lovely clunk when coming to a stop. This fixed the issue until we were coming back from a four hour trip and the lurching forward when going up an incline started again. It cut off, the check engine light came on and stayed lit, as well as the park assist. Like before we coasted to the side of the road, turned it off and restarted it. Took it back to the dealership and was told it was the fuel sensor and shelled out $750 to get it fixed. I am scared to drive this SUV and have never had this issue happen to any of the 20 cars we have previously owned. Please look into why this is occurring because if someone dies due to being rear ended when it cuts off, a lawsuit will be imminent. Thank you.

40 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 02/02/2013

This has happened to me several times in the two years I've owned this vehicle. Every time I take it to the shop the mechanics say they cannot replicate the issue so cannot fix it. First the check engine light will come on and no codes will appear when run. A couple days later (mostly when driving on the highway, or any speed above 30mph) I will be driving as usual and begin to increase speed on the on ramp for the interstate and the engine will tap out at 45mph. I will press the gas pedal to the floor and the engine will not rev and the rpm's will not increase. I tried to put the car in neutral and back into drive and nothing changed with the engine. All the while I had my one year old child in the car with me. Every time I try to research what is wrong with my Jeep I just see the same complaint from thousands of people. This is obviously an issue and needs to be fixed immediately! I don't care if they have to give me a new Jeep I need something safe for my family!.

41 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 01/11/2013

My Jeep stalled as I accellerated on the on ramp of a major interstate. I coasted to the shoulder and tried to restart and would not restart until I shut it completely off and restarted. It ran with the check engine light on and the cruise control inopertable. Idle was rough at low and higher rpm's. After about six restarts throughout the day the check engine light went out but the cruise control is still inopertable. One week later it stalled at idle during cold weather warm up with the same results following as before. The vehicle was purchased used from a dealer less than a week prior to the incident with 84,879 mi. A background check through autocheck was conducted prior to purchase with no major finding reported on this specific vehicle. From investigations through multible websites, this issue is common with this vehicle for several years. I have check the recall reports by VIN # and this vehicle does not fall in the production catagory of manufacture recall but has the exact same symtoms for a recall. This is a major safety concern if the vehicle stalls on a rural highway with no shoulder to safely pullover.

42 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

Vehicle stalls at slow speed, either in rush hr traffic or at stop light/sign. Speed is slow, less than 10mph. Can place transmission in park/neutral and engine re-starts immediately. Has been happening more frequently recently; sometimes happens several times per trip. Today it stalled 3 times on way to work at various stops. No check engine light is on while engine is running. When it stalls, the red oil light and lightning bolt light are on, but not flashing, and both go off once engine is running again. It is the 5. 7l hemi motor.

43 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 12/12/2012

Vehicle shuts off while driving. Various conditions. Idling, cruising at highway speeds, accelerating, decelerating, etc. Must shut key off to reset engine before the vehicle will start again. This has happened at least 20 times with no check engine light illuminating. It has become a huge safety issue since all power is lost at any speed.

44 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 11/10/2012

I had this vehicle since 2008, and this is the three times that it would not start once driven. Drive the vehicle to the store, park it for at less 15 mins, when I started the car it do not start. The check engine light come on . The other two time that the car would not start the dealership repair shop could tell me what was wrong and the car start up for them. That was in 2010 and 2011,now it happen again! was told that this problem need to be reported. After reading the complaints from the other owners of the 2007 Jeep Commander 4x4 this seem as if this is a major problem. We are bless that there has been no deaths.

45 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 11/03/2012

Was driving to work and was accelerating to about 55mph, when my 2006 Jeep Commander stopped accelerating and had apparently jumped into neutral. The check engine light also came on at that time. I had to pull over put the vehicle in park and then back into drive, and then it was fine. This exact same thing has occurred about 3-4 times. Always with the check engine light going off soon after.

46 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 10/28/2012

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle decelerated independently and would not respond to acceleration attempts. 47 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 10/17/2012

Just dropped my children off - on my way to work again - going approx 40-45 mph. . . . . All of a sudden I feel a slight jerk and my car completely shuts off. (key still in on position-so no, my knee did not hit the keys) brakes - electrical - engine - all went out. I coasted to the side of the road. Waited about 10 mins after speaking with my husband - started it back up engine light was on. . . . I p laced my hazards on and proceeded to continue down the road - at this point I am approx 15-20 miles from work.

48 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 10/15/2012

After a schedule tune up, where two coil packs were replaced, and a pcm software update was performed our 2007 Jeep Commander began stalling at slow speeds. Usually under 20 mph or at a stop when the engine is at or near idle speeds, the engine will obruptly stall without warning. There is no check engine light and no error code. Our local Jeep dealer has made several repair attempts including replacing the pcm, and shielding the engine wiring harness with aluminum foil. The problem continues. The key must be cycled to the 'off' position to restart the engine. The engine has stalled at high speeds a few times making for a very dangerous situation.

49 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 08/30/2012

I was driving on the highway with my son going around 65 miles per hour. When all of a sudden my truck Jeep comm, started slowing down, and all the other cars were passing by me speeding and blowing at my. I pulled over and restarted the car and now the engine light came on and the truck wont go pass 40 miles an hour. I have a warranty but the dealer is always trying to get out of paying it.

50 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 07/27/2012

While driving at aprox 45mph, with no warning my Jeep stalled out leaving me with no power anything. After 5 minutes started up with check engine light on. Tried to get it to my home about 5 minutes away stalled again without warning. Did manage to get it home this however is not the only time this has happened, started happening in may 2012 samething. Had it towed to dealer which they charged me $234 to find nothing wrong with it and 11/2weeks with no vehicle. This is very dangerous how at any speed vehicle stalls with no warning!!!!! I should add I just had the flash recall done on the vehicle for the otc module on 4/13/12.

51 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 07/11/2012

Driving at 65mph when check engine light came on and engine stalled. Lost power steering and had to pull over to the side of the road. Shifted into park, turned ignition off, then restarted it. Check engine light remained on and did not run right. Vehicle would not shift into overdrive and rpms were running very high. Drove to dealership. Dealer found one stored code, found defective solenoid pack.

52 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 07/05/2012

Engine stalling! hi, my 2006 Jeep Commander with 71k on it has been stalling a lot lately and the engine light goes on. It starts right away but the engine light stays on. I took it to my dealership & they reprogrammed the computer, but less than 50 miles later it stalled again. This happens on the highway where I would lose power and find it hard to control the car. I know that a lot of owners complain about the same issue and the dealerships seem to be puzzled by it as well. Jeep has to find a solution to this before someone gets in an accident. Jeep should also cover the costs associated with the several service costs. I've sent the same to Jeep/Chrysler corporation and have yet to hear from them. My car is current on all recalls issued sulfer. I suggest that Jeep be forced to buy back all these Commanders and save themselves a big headache.

55 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 04/02/2012

The vehicle check engine light comes on and the car stalls out no matter how fast you are going. Everything dies, including power steering. I have to coast over to the side of the road and turn the car off and then restart it and it runs fine for awhile. There is no rhyme or reason to it. I have been driving on the highway going 80 mph and the check engine light comes on and it just shuts off. I have also been on side roads going 35-40 mph and it happens. It always restarts and then it happens again. I had all the spark plugs replaced in 2012 and it worked fine for awhile, probably about 5,000 miles, then it happened again out of the blue in 2014. I don't drive the car very often because it is too dangerous. I've almost caused several accidents on the highway from a sudden slow down from the engine dying and decelerating rapidly. I've written a complaint in 2012, never heard anything and now I am writing again.

56 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 04/02/2012

As I was driving my Commander, it started to sputter and shift gears erratically and then died. The engine light was on as I pulled over to the side of the road. After I turned the car off completely, I tried to restart the car to continue to work. As soon as I put the vehicle in gear, it stalled once again. On the third try, I was able to place my vehicle in gear and complete my drive to work but the engine light remained on. This same scenario has happened five times since the original incident.

57 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 03/14/2012

The contact owns 2007 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that the vehicle would not start. The failure occurred multiple times and the over heating engine warning light illuminated intermittently when the failure occurred. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic. The manufacturer was notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 70,500.

58 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 01/11/2012

While traveling at 40mph my 2007 Jeep Commander lost power accelerator would no respond the service park assist message came on as did the check engine light and all the gear indicators in the dash lit up. I stopped on the side of the road and after I turned the vehicle off and restarted it was fine for a few more miles and it did it again and again. Took the vehicle to my Jeep dealer and they checked it out and found it was the transmission control module and I just had to pay $1,329. 59 to have it repaired. This is a safety issue and I was lucky I was driving on side streets as in traffic or on the highway it could have caused a serious accident. The same issue happened on the 2006 Commander and Jeep recalled them and there are the same number of complaints about the 2007 why is it that nothing is being done to have them correct this.

59 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 01/06/2012

Engine stall,, multiple times,, engine just simply shut off. . . . . Usually stall on highway (60~75 mph),, one time in city (20~35 mph). . . . . Went to certified Chrysler Jeep dealership (service center),, no error code reading,, no check engine light,, no special warning go off,, no problem found. . . . . No solution. . . . .

60 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 11/02/2011

The "prnd" gears lit up with boxes around them - the "service parking assist brake" came on as well. . . . I could not accelerate at all after the light turned green - had to turn on hazard lights and turn vehicle off and back on - worked fine for 10 minutes or so and then the check engine light came on, it has been on ever since. Called the dealership about this they asked me to bring it in for diagnosing, but hesitant because of all the same kind of stories that I have read on this issue. Going to have to give in though, this is a major safety concern of mine now. . . Have not seen a recall for this even though someone can certainly have a devastating accident, not willing to take that chance. . . Love my vehicle, but now I hate the aggravation that this is causing. . With all the horror stories with the same sort of issue you would think that Jeep would take care of this, I guess that this is why they discontinued the Commander?.

61 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 09/25/2011

I have a 06 Jeep Commander that has been completely shutting down while I'm driving. The rpms go up over 3 and 4 and the gears shifts from high to low. And also my engine light comes on and stays on.

62 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 08/01/2011

This problem happens year round. Once you put the vehicle into drive, all of the shift lights "prnd" light up and the vehicle won't accelerate. If you are already driving down the road/ freeway, it will randomly light up and stop accelerating. When it randomly occurs, it happens with no warning, and you have to attempt to pull the vehicle over to the side of road, put it into neutral or park or restart the vehicle, and attempt it again. The check engine light will come on and the problem will happen repeatedly over a week period, then the problem will stop for a week or two and then resurface at the worst time- for example an intersection, an on-ramp, a busy street, and it has presented huge safety issues for me and my family. Does it take someone dying for this to get recalled? I have read forum after forum of the same issue amongst consumers with my exact make, model, and year (and earlier models) and yet, when I called Jeep, they say they have never heard of it, there is no recall, and I've been turned away.

63 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 07/17/2011

Purchased this vehicle used about a year ago and has been having issues for about 5 months on about 20 different occasions, and seems to be worse in stop and go traffic or at a complete stop. While driving it will stall and act as if it is going to die. It seems to be worse at a complete stop but has been gradually doing more while driving. It has completely shut down three different times. Usually, the check engine light comes on. Has started doing it now at accelerated speeds. Replaced spark plugs with no change. Took to auto zone and read nothing on their computer. It seems others are having this same issue and I cant believe there has not been a recall for this since it would cause a safety issue. It does not seem that the problem has been diagnosed correctly yet from reading the other complaints and Jeep should have to be made to look into this.

64 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 06/15/2011

My 2007 Commander runs perfect when cold but after 1 1/2 hours of being on the road it begins to run horribly. In stop and go traffic the engine bucks, sometimes dies off and has a complete lack of power. The check engine light flashes, sometimes I put it in neutral and rev the engine and then it is fine for a while and the mil light goes off. Sometimes on turns the engine sputters in the intersection which has led to several close calls of being hit by the oncoming vehicle. Sometimes on the freeway, climbing a slight incline the engine sputters and I lose speed and crawl to the right lane, again sometime I put it in neutral and rev the engine, slam it in drive and sometime that works. My mechanic has had the pcm tested, changed spark plugs, coils, oxygen sensors, added extra ground wires, cleared the wiring for shorts, cleaned all engine connectors including injectors plugs and road test the vehicle with the scanner connected. Stated that other than picking up dtc p300b the data stream on the scanner showed no abnormalities. There has been no change in the performance of my Commander. I will be calling the dealer to see what can be done under my 8year/80,000 mile drive train warranty.

65 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 05/23/2011

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that the vehicle would stall sporadically with the illumination of the check engine warning light. 66 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 10/01/2010

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the check engine light illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road. Upon restart, the vehicle operated as normal. The failure recurred on an intermittent basis. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on numerous occasions but the failure was not diagnosed because the check engine light was no longer illuminated. The contact was able to diagnose the failure herself and stated that the esm sensor was faulty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance. The contact also stated that there was a defect within the wiring solenoid. The failure mileage was 49,000.

67 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 07/15/2010

Engine stalling or not starting. Engine stalled while making a turn. Car started immediately after but engine and oil lights remained on. Service deparrtment replaced censors but that did not correct the problem. Sporadically stalls at take off, when slowing down to turn/stop, when cruise control is disengaged at highway speeds. On highway, hit brake to disengage cc and switch lanes, car stalled, turned the key without putting it in park or stopping and engine kicked back in. Car wouldn't start on one occasion and service department replaced alternator but problem still persists. Service department replaced ignition switch but problem persists with car not starting. Stuck at highway rest stop for 2 hours until car re-started. Service department stated that computer needed to be replaced, then said that they weren't getting that code the next time we had problems. Have replaced various parts but problem still persists. Service department states that they have not been able to re-create the problem while driving.

68 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 05/17/2010

2007 Jeep Commander, 51,000 miles, stalls while driving without any warning. I was able to guide vehicle to side of the road and re-start the engine. This stalling problem has occurred on two occasions now, once with my kids on board, a scary situation to say the least. The engine light came on a week after the last incident and dealer believes the problem is a faulty electronic shift module, which they said is a known problem. When pressed about stalling of 2007 Commanders, dealer said they were not aware of any problems or recall, yet replacement of the electronic shift module is a known problem? based upon the submissions to NHTSA regarding this problem, NHTSA needs to take action now. The history of reports regarding 2007 Commanders needs to be addressed, I urge the NHTSA and Chrysler do the right thing before it is too late.

69 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 05/04/2010

While driving my 2007 Jeep Commander limited edition 4x4 at various speeds car stalls without warning. All power features including steering wheel lock and check engine light comes on. Forced to maneuver to shoulder if possible (dangerous) put the car in park and then re-start. Same problem has occurred approximately 50 times since 2010. Have sought information from dealer and independent mechanics and attempted to repair at my own expense to no avail. Mechanics have been unable to replicate the problem while on road tests, which is expected since the stalling is unpredictable. The most recent occurrence was 8/5/14 - complete engine stall while driving (approximately 40mpg), steering wheel and all other power features locked in the middle of traffic. Put the car in park then re-started.

70 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander
