1 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2018 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 11/20/2023

I purchased the vehicle on novemeber 20,2023 from mall chevy in cherry hill NJ. From the first day, I was getting an intermittent a! warning for the vehicle start/stop function. The vehicle would feel like it is trying to turn off when not active. Finally on March 8, 2024, it stayed on. The entire time I have been trying to get the dealership to fix it, they refused to look at it. The transmission keeps slipping, jerking forward and back, wants to take off at a stop. They refuse to acknowledge. I finally took it to performance Dodge in woodbury NJ, they determined it was a defective ibs( intelligent battery sensor). Then a bcm issue was determined and 2 wires had insulation exposed, an ohmed was needed as well as hvac and dtcm updates. It still needs abs and tcm module work. The vehicle still feels likem it wants to shut off, jerks while accelerating and makes a banging sound.

2 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2018 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 07/21/2023

Latest incident (7/21/23) resulted in check engine light code: p1dd2 - “torque request signal from tcm denied”. Check engine light came on - Jeep felt like it was going to stall. For several months now, I’ve had intermittent issues with the Jeep “shifting” on its own while driving without me touching the shifter. I then get an alert that I can’t change gears while driving & I have to pull over to try to resolve the issue. This has happened to me several times but when I’ve reported it, the mechanic / Jeep dealer couldn’t make the issue happen again. In addition, since owning this Jeep, the most I can drive is 3000 miles before needing an oil change. My oil is being “burned through”. Most recently I didn’t even make it 1000 miles after an oil change without losing atleast 2-3 quarts of oil. Not sure why this is happening as I should be able to go between 5k-6k miles between oil changes.

3 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2018 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 02/11/2023

My 2018 Jeep Compass started out having minor issues that I just blew off at first. First thing I noticed after purchasing it new was the cruise control wouldn't allow me to set speed. It only happened randomly, now its every other time the Jeep starts up. Then my back up camera started going black. It worked more times than not. Well, time goes by and now the whole touch screen is black, or white lines, upside down, and sometimes just rolls then completely black. Another day, my oil change light came on, (2000 miles before it was due) and the parking brake engaged itself and cut off. It wouldn't start back up for about 3 mins. I checked the oil level and it was way below the oil pressure gauge. So I added oil and it seemed to fix the issue. Which brings us up to date until today, my car was sitting still in a parking lot for about 15 mins. All of a sudden the dash clutter turns red with the message transmission needs service. I cut the Jeep off and turned it back on and when reversing, it jumped and knocked really hard and when put in drive wouldn't accelerate above 30 mph. I pulled into auto zone and had them read the check engine light and the code said p1dd2-torque request singal from tcm denied. Most likely solution: reprogram electronic shift module (esm) powertrain system.

7 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2018 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 02/26/2022

The automatic start stop function constantly goes out, tcm unable to send signal to transmission to shift. Caused the car to stall in an intersection and self applied the emergency brake at around 5mph causing the vehicle to jerk to a halt. Car inexplicably throws service engine code and then transmission downshifts to 30mph from higher speeds nearly causing wreck.

8 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2018 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 10/19/2021

While driving down the road going 55mph, my car suddenly stalled with the "service transmission" and "service engine" lights and messages appearing. The car would not accelerate. Once safely stopped on the side of the road, the car shifted heavily in park. In order for my car to safely drive, we had to sit with the car off for several minutes. Once cranked again, the service transmission light went off and it would shift into gear without any grinding noise but the service engine light stayed on. This is the same issue reported and recalled with the pcm voltage regulator chip. It has done this five times while driving down the road, and countless others while idling in park. This is a safety hazard. Though the VIN dictates it is not part of the recall, my car clearly is.

10 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2018 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 04/26/2021

My vehicle has nearly killed my entire family multiple times now, stalling out on the highway going 75 miles an hour, shutting off because I turned a corner, rarely starting and having to buy a jump box because my vehicle doesn't want to start due to have a bad pcm according to u87 recall that my VIN isn't included in. I have been lied to by your staff every single time I have called, I am hopeful to get the class action lawsuit that so many states have going on in missouri as well. My vehicle is extremely dangerous and going to kill my family it will be your fault it, I will ensure that an attorney is well aware of the lack of empathy, the lack of action your company has done, and downright refusal to do the necessary repairs to make my vehicle safe.

11 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2018 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 04/11/2021

My car flashed a warning to "stop safely vehicle will shut off soon" and car shut off automatically while I was driving on a city street! there is a powertrain control module recall for this make and model but mine wasn't included, I guess. A car going down the street and suddenly coming to a complete, uninitiated stop is extremely scary and dangerous. I would think if this is happening, then the pcm should be replaced, but the dealership isn't on board with this. They say there is nothing they can do since they can't re-create the error. My simple google search has shown this to be a very common problem with the 2018 Jeep Compass.

15 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2017 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 07/03/2018

Purchased Dec 2017. Almost immediately began experiencing a problem whenever the speedometer dropped to 31 mph, there was an aggressive downshift that felt as if I was being rear ended. Problem frequent yet intermittent. Often radio would not turn on or off when the engine was on or off. Fear of battery draining was often. Loss of volume control when vehicle was parked. . Each month, random errors would flash. By July 3, it had become so frequent withshifting problems and problems with lighting, windows, sunroof, it was taken to collierville cdjr for service. That day all the codes started flashing across dash while vehicle was in motion on highway. There were 4 pages of diagnostic error codes. Tech erik jeter said a tcm flash update was available for transmission shift quality. Must update pcm and tcm also. There were multiple dtcs for all turn signals and lamps. Determined cause to be faulty body control module and internal failure. This was allegedly replaced, despite being originally told of a recall and backorder of parts that could last 6 months. Car out of service for 10 days. Problems began again within a week of vehicles return. It was taken to landers cdjr for service on August 9, 2018. I have not heard back from dealer. Then the backup cameras began freezing and would stay while car in motion. Windows stopped working. On September 1, 2018 my vehicle was found to be sitting behind the service department along side more than a dozen other new Jeep Compass vehicles with stop sale/do not sell written across windows. It has been a total of 35 days out of service. This vehicle needs to be declared a lemon so I can replace it with a working car.

18 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2007 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 09/08/2011

While traveling at about 25 mph with my 6 month old child in the vehicle, my car lost all power. The electronic throttle control indicator light came on (flashing) and so did the slide protection light. I was not able to accelerate beyond 20mph and when I came to a stop, the vehicle ran very rough like it was going to die. Luckily I puttered home and my child was safe. I had the vehicle towed to my local Jeep dealership and after almost 5 days of trying to diagnose the problem, they informed me that the pcm needed replaced. They stated that they were "very confident" that this would fix the problem. Well today, they pcm was replaced and the problem persists. The Chrysler/Jeep dealership still cannot pinpoint the problem and it seems that this is a very common problem for the 2007 Jeep Compass. At the time of the incident, I was so scared as I alsmot got into a wreck when my vehicle lost power. My 6 month old child could have been hurt, or worse. Even if this car get fixed, I will be so apprehensive to drive anywhere in it with my child for fear that it will give out again. This seems to be a major problem with these cars and there should be a recall in my opinion. I do not feel that this is a repair that I, or other Jeep Compass owners, should be responsible for as 1. It is all too common and 2. The pcm/electrical system is not a component that wears out with mileage or usage. I believe the problem is due to faulty manufacturing on behalf of Chrysler/Jeep. While I wait to see if the car can be repaired, my repair bill just keeps growing. I have decided to take action for this issue and that is why I am filing this complaint. Please contact me at anytime with any help, support, or questions as I will be awaiting your response. Thank you.

19 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2010 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 03/23/2011

The transmission control module stopped working. After trying to turn the car on. It would only move in 1st gear and in reverse. It happened a second time less then 6 months later. The car shifted into drive and the entire car jerked and made a popping sound. And would again only work in 1st and reverse. The 3rd I was driving on the interstate. As I got on the off ramp the car beeped like it was out of gas and then about a second later the traction control light and oil temperature light came on and the car felt like some one had slammed on the brakes briefly. This caused me to pull slightly to the side when this happened. Luckily this happened on the off ramp and not the interstate traveling in traffic at 70mph where I fear it may have caused an accident with another driver or by myself as it cause me to pull to the side, no way of telling what would of happened. But I'm fearful. Chrysler has tried to fix this 2 times. This will be their 3rd attempt.
