The engine over heats at 60 to 70 mph and then begin to lose power. The car slows down, the engine light comes on. This has happened 5 times since 2019 while on the highway. Now the transmission is failing because it won't change gears and it makes a whining sound when you try to accelerate. On the city street.

3 Transmission Failure problem of the 2017 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 08/01/2019

Tl- the contact owns a 2017 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that the vehicle's radio and air condition had failed then the vehicle's transmission failed as well. The contact stated that while waiting at a red light when attempting to accelerate forward, the vehicle failed to accelerate. The vehicle's e-brakes would suddenly activate intermittently. The contact then stated that when attempting to stop at a red light, when they pressed the brakes the vehicle's brakes failed to stop the vehicle. The contact stated that in order to stop the vehicle they would need to apply an excessive amount of pressure on the brake pedal and the vehicle would take an extensive amount of time to roll then eventually come to a harsh stop. The contact contacted the dealership (zimmer Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram located at 1086 burlington pike, florence, ky 41042 phone number 859-795-2122) who updated the radio and replaced the air conditioner blower, which, they believe these electrical issues may have caused the issue with the transmission. The dealer informed the contact that the correction with these electrical issues may also cause the transmission issue to correct itself, however, the contact continued to have issues with the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to the dealership again, however, they were unable to identify the cause of the failure the manufacturer was made aware of the issue and opened case number 59537226 regarding the issues with the vehicle. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000. Gl.

4 Transmission Failure problem of the 2014 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 01/03/2017

I have owned this Jeep Compass since July 2014 in the time I have owned it , it has lost power and stopped functioning as I was driving betweeen 55 and 65 miles/ hour 4 times on a very busy 5 lane highway. 1 of those times I had to have it towed . The other times after leaving it sit for approximately 30 minutes, it would restart. The time it was towed, the only thing they could find is the battery was low so they replaced it. Another time at 33,000 miles, they found the transmission was failing so they replaced the transmission. Last month , it died again in the same busy highway and we were almost hit by an 18 wheel truck while trying to get it off the road. I let it sit for 30 minutes and it started again just like the other times. I took it to wallace Jeep in stuart florida where the service manager did a diagnostic on it and said he could find nothing wrong. I have not driven it on the highway now for weeks because I fear the transmission is going out again and am afraid of being hit in traffic. It now has 66000 miles on it so this transmission has about the same mileage on it as the original did. I a opened a case with Jeep and can never get them to call me back I am thoroughly disgusted with this vehicle and would never buy another Jeep as long as I live. Not sure what to do next! so not fair that I am stuck with this death trap! I previously owned 3 different grand cherokees with no issue , but this Compass is a worthlesss, dangerous, pole of junk! I loathe this vehicle!.

8 Transmission Failure problem of the 2007 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 11/03/2011

The cvt transmission failed. There is a public danger because of sudden failure and engine revving to maximum rpm. . . Total loss of power to drive train. The cvt transmission replacement costs should have been debited back to the supplier at 100%. I see this is a common problem in the vehicles manufactured with the cvt transmission. Chrysler would not complete the repairs until we agreed to share in the cost. I feel this item should be recalled as a safety issue. I also feel that Chrysler should refund our $750 to us in good faith.

9 Transmission Failure problem of the 2011 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 06/19/2011

(among other problems), this 2011 Jeep Compass has transmission difficulties. On multiple occassions the automatic transmission has failed to shift from gear to gear without manual assisstance. It will whicne and strain and just not change, even as the rpm climb sky high, it will not shift without assistance. This failure was first documented on 6/19/11 but there were multiple failure before this date. The system failure has resulted in a reduction of power to such extent that it is difficult to safely merge into a lane of traffic. During such episodes the accelerator could be pressed to the floor and the maximum speed whould nto exceed 20 or 25 miles per hour. This vehicle (which has other problems) is considered to be unsafe. I am presently waiting for a company "investigator" to access these problems.
