Jeep Compass owners have reported 45 problems related to other fuel system tank assembly (under the other fuel system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Every time for the last 10 fill ups the car will stall and finally quit, usually in traffic. It will start right back but going a few yards it starts stalling again. I keep it from dieing completely by putting it in neutual and giving it gas like at a red light. Also sometimes its hard putting gas in no matter how much is in the tank. It fills like its full even though it may just have a quarter tank, half tank, etc.

Every single time I fill up my gas tank to full and leave the gas station it stalls while driving. It doesn't matter what gas station or grade of gas, same result. Very dangerous because I drive on the highway.
I have a 2010 Jeep Compass limited by Chrysler and I have not seen a recall for this SUV because of the gas tank being exposed. All you have to do is bend over and look under the rear bumper and see how close the gas tank is. You can see the full gas tank from 3 feet away from the vehicle. I'm wondering why it isn't being recalled now with all the other cars with gas tanks that might have a fire if the car is rear ended. I'm also having problems with the ignition switch and having a hard time getting my key in and out of it to start my car or to shut it off. I hope my car will be added to the list of recall or buy back deal. They recalled 2009's for this problem but my SUV is a 2010 and Chrysler doesn't seem to want to recall Jeeps of this year.

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that when attempting to refuel the vehicle, the fuel valve shut off. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed the fuel tank needed to be replaced. No repairs were made to the vehicle. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 63,000. . . Updated 05/19/bf.
As I was driving on the interstate at 70 mph and the gas gauge showing 1/4 of a tank left, the engine suddenly quit. It would restart. After puttting some gas in it started immediately. Since then, and before, I have let the level run down well below a 1/4 of a tank with no incident. My car is out of warranty, but I called Jeep because this scenario is exactly what was described in the recall notice I received a year or so ago, which said that at high sustained speed a fuel intake hose in the gas tank could collapse, resulting in the engine turning off suddenly and a possible catastrophic accident. I had the recall procedure completed but I did not take any long trips until the day the incident occurred. The Jeep recall specialist told me to take the car back to the dealer to have it checked out. The dealer told me if they didn't find anything wrong it would cost $99 for diagnostic tests. I asked if they would remove the fuel tank to check the hose and they said no I did not leave the car because I didn't think they would be able to find the problem, or duplicate it. I called Jeep again; they called the dealer while I was on the line and asked them to look at the car again. When I took it back I was told the same thing; that if they couldn't duplicate the problem it would cost me $99. They then advised me to try to duplicate the problem again, myself, by driving the car on the interstate until it quit, and then have it towed to the nearest dealer. I couldn't believe I was hearing that so I called the Jeep recall department again, and after some conferring with other people there, the specialist told me that yes, this is what I needed to do; drive the car until it quits. What I find really interesting about this is that Jeep initially was concerned about the possibility of a catastrophic accident, but now that doesn't seem to be a concern. Any advice?.

Tried to put fuel in tank and fuel splashed back and kept shutting off. Tried 2 other stations and same result. My daughter has the car at college. She said she could only put fuel in the car by continuing to pump very slow and to keep trying. With any kind of fast pump the fuel would splash back. Very dangerous.

. My 2007 Jeep Compass 4x4 ltd stall when I fuel it up. I have replaced both sending units and the vapor canister. My mechanic says the rollover valve in the tank needs to be replaced since this is a common problem with other Jeep Compass and patriot vehicles. My mechanic must replace the gas tank as the rollover valve cannot be replaced to avoid this problem in the future. This is a common problem with both of these vehicles and can cause an accident. Vehicle stalls every time when coming to a stop directly after fueling vehicle. It will stall 4-6 times but will start back up with no problems. After vehicle has been on the road with rpm's up for a few minutes the problem goes away. It is very dangerous to pull out into traffic or trying to turn a corner and have your vehicle stall. This should be a recall from Jeep. . . It's not safe.
I was on a road trip in my 2012 Jeep Compass (4x4 latitude version) from the nashville, TN area to the washington d. C. Area, in August, and was monitoring my fuel consumption on the trip. I noted my fuel gauge had been telling me that at the first half of the gas tank I had been getting around 210 miles out of that first half of the tank. My second half of the tank only gave me around 90 miles to the half tank, with about a gallon and a half remaining in the tank when I refueled. This is nearly 100 mile difference in mileage between the two measurements, on average, for highway driving conditions. The issue continues to this day.
The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Compass. While refueling the vehicle, fuel spewed out of the refueling entrance hole. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank inlet check valve was faulty and the entire fuel tank would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 78,000.
Fuel hose going in tank will not always take fuel , spilling some on the ground, very dangerous if I don,t go in the store so they can put floor dry on it, does not do it all the time , took the tank off once but did not find anything ,.
