Three problems related to transmission slip out of gear have been reported for the 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Cold transmission will not shift from 2nd gear to 3rd. Transmission slips out of gear, causing loss of power. Dealer recommends new transmission. Not covered under warranty.
While the vehicle was on and in parked, it jumped out of gear, from park to reverse, lost control, resulting in an accident/ no eployment of driver's air bag during accident, resulting in injuries to driver.
Transmission keeps slipping out of gear into lower gear, causing vehicle to slowdown unexpectedly. Consumer must pull over and change gear. Dealer cannot duplicate the defect.
