79 problems related to brake disc rotor have been reported for the 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Consumer noticed a chirping noise coming from the front wheels that disappeared when the brakes were applied. The dealer was unable to correct the problem the consumer was referring to. The consumer had a list of problems that needed to be corrected on the vehicle and they were: rotors and pads front and rear, emergency brake shoes, wiper blades, muffler and tail pipe, oil dip dip stick, right axle boot,emergency brake pivot, the back glass needed to be adjusted, the fuel pump module was replaced, the rear differential bearings were replaced. The consumer was told by customer service there were 2 outstanding recalls on the vehicle and the problem she was describing sounded as though it was related to one of the recalls.
The rotors warped. As a result the brakes wore out prematurely. A recall was issued for this male/model, and year. However, the vehicle was not included in the recall due to VIN. The abs light had come on due to the abs pump assembly, there was a vibration when braking, and the rear brake pad were metal to metal.
The rotors on my 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee consistently warp after 6,000 to 10,000 miles. I have owned many cars and have also worked on many and have never witnessed such short living rotors.
The rotors failed on the vehicle.
Problems with front brakes grinding. Nar 1/22/2003 the consumer had problems stopping. The problem was diagnosed as 2 bad front brake disc rotors and 2 bad front brake calipers. When the consumer did some research, he discovered daimler Chrysler had issued a recall and now the consumer is seeking reimbursement.
01 v 119 000/front brake rotor: front brake rotors need to be replaced within 12,000 miles of wear. Dealer notified. There is a recall campaign #00v13600 for this condition. Consumer adds that the fuel injector had to be replaced due to carbon deposits.
Before consumer purchased the vehicle, the rotors and pads had been replaced. Consuemr received a recall notice regarding the rotors and pads and had them replaced again per recall standards. In June of 2001, consumer noticed a pulsing in the brakes. The brakes were worn, the rotors were replaced and the pads changed. In September of 2002, there was a heavy pulsing and a grinding noise during braking. Consumer was told the pads were completely worn away and metal was grinding against metal.
Unable to remove rear wheel to change tire after removing lug nuts due to corrosion of rear brake rotors adhering to wheel.
Recall 00v136 was done on vehicle, 3 months later consumer was having more problems and rotor overheating,consumer was charged for expenses other than the recall, consumer wants reimbursement.
Prior to receiving recall 00v136, consumer had front rotors replaced and is now requesting reimbursement for repairs.

Front end vibrates and jerks when brakes are applied. (speed is not a factor) front rotors and all brakes were replaced. When problem continued, rotors were replaced for a second time. Problem still continues. Local dealer is unable to offer a suggestion.
