79 problems related to brake disc rotor have been reported for the 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Brake rotors keep heating up, causing excessive vibration. Rotors have been replaced and problem still exists.

I replaced my rotors due to premature failure prior to recall. I sent a letter and receipt to Jeep for reimbursement and was denied. I sent a follow-up letter and received a phone call from Jeep which stated my claim was accepted and I would receive a check and then an hour later received another call denying me. I have tried to correspond with the customer service but I am having a tremendous difficulty with not only reaching the pertinent individuals but in getting anybody to followup with me.
When applying the brakes there is a squealing noise coming from the brakes. When owner had the cherokee checked all the brakes rotors were found to be rusted and splitting apart. The rotors are being replaced. Technician believes the rotors to be defective.

While driving on different occasions, consumer's brakes failed, dealer could not locate problem any of the times the vehicle was brought it, the consumer because of safety traded the vechicle in, now there is a recall 00v136 regarding the brakes and the consumer is requesting that he is reimbursed for the loss that was taken when the vehicle was traded in.

I have had my front rotors replaced on my 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4 times. (17000, 28000, 35000, 43000 miles) . I do not drive in stop and go traffic. I do not tow and I am not a heavy braker. I have complained to Chrysler about this problem on several occasions, but they said it is not their defect. It must be the way I am driving. I have found web sites (deja. Com, edmunds. Com) that have numerous postings about this problem. I really feel that this is a defect in the Chrysler product.

Front brake rotors get hot and warped every 15-20,000 miles which caused extended stopping distance, and may result in a crash. Dealer turned and replaced rotors 3 times. Please provide further information.

Original rotors warped and were replaced under warranty by Chrysler. Replacement rotors are now warped causing unsafe operating conditions when trying to stop. I consider my driving habits and conditions to be quite normal, no hard braking, no riding of brakes, no trailer towing, and hills.

Dealer has replaced warped front rotors four times, and the rear rotors have been replaced twice. Manufacturer has been notified.

Consumer states transmission does not shift the way it should, there is a delay when going into gear and it makes a noise, rear seal, pan gasket, and cooler lines leaking, humming in engine at 59-62 mph, the wiper blades failed, while using remote there is a grinding noise coming from door area, the right front rotor is worn, the deqler replaced the front brake pads, and headlights need to be adjusted.

Front rotors have been replaced twice and resurfaced once. Last resurface 02/98, all repairs have been done under warranty but rotors have again failed and dealerships are trying to charge for what appears to be defective equipment.

When applying brakes vehicle will shake violently. Brake pads are not wearning out, but rotors keep failing. Rotors have been replaced 4 times ,defect keeps reoccurring.
4 wheel disc rear rotors are separating due to corrosion. Vehicle is on its second set of rear rotors at only 70,000 miles.
The front rotors routinely warp. Chrysler replaced them at 18,000 miles, turned them at 30,000 miles and by 40,000 miles they were warped again. No mechanical problems causing the warping. Service tech at dealership said this is known design defect.
