Brake Drum problems of the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Six problems related to brake drum have been reported for the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Brake Drum problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2001

My 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo had a new differential install edat 15,000 miles; two new front rotors at 36,000 and should have been done way before this; back brake drum cracked at 36,000 miles; front rotors redone again at 42000 miles; and now the motor at 52,000 miles. We had not indication (noise, etc) of the motor going, I was traveling aroung 5-10 miles per hour turning into our road and it felt like something heavy dropped out of the vehicle, it sounded like metal going through a fan. A piece of the block fell out onto the road and the people at the local dealer said they had never seen any thing like it before. It was like a bomb went off inside the motor. My question -- should chyrsler be responsible for this motor, it will be in the range of $6,000. Thank you.

2 Brake Drum problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2001

Chrysler "extended the warranty" to repair front brakes, but would admit no liability on the rear brakes.

3 Brake Drum problem

Failure Date: 07/02/1999

Brakes pulsate when applied at high speed, steering wheel shakes when brakes applied. Repeated calls to Jeep consumer relations results in their denial of a problem, other than wear and tear, and that the warrenty will expire and coverage of the brake components ending.

4 Brake Drum problem

Failure Date: 04/01/1999

This vehicle exhibited strong brake pulsation when stopping. Manufacturer refused replacement of rotors, and turned rotors while on hubs of vehicle. Pulsation has now returned.

5 Brake Drum problem

Failure Date: 01/24/1999

No summary listed for this vehicle.

6 Brake Drum problem

In the past year the front rotors have warped three times. The dealership advises me that the will continue to turn the rotors, but will not replace them. I experience the steering wheel shakes and soft braking under hard braking conditions and feel that this could lead to an accident I the future.
