1 Engine Failure problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2011

Complete engine failure caused the vehicle to suddenly loose all power. Upon further investigation, the piston skirt had cracked and eventually broke away causing a complete failure of the engine. Resolution was to replace the engine. This is a fairly common problem with the Jeep 4. 0 engine after the piston was redesigned around 2000-2001. Jeep should have recalled the vehicles and replaced the pistons before they started cracking and causing engine failures.

2 Engine Failure problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2004

Debris accumulated in the #3 piston and caused engine failure. We had a 4. 7l engine. This recall is for 4. 0l but it also happens on the 4. 7l. This particular model, the 2001 grand Jeep cherokee. You can only replace the engine with the same model and year, making it expensive and hard to find.
