My 2002 Jeep cherokee started blowing heat only on the drivers side and cold air on the passenger side. The windows were constantly fogging up making driving only possible by lowering the windows to reduce fogging. Now, I have no heat and the mechanic says it is my blower doors and that this happens to alot of Jeeps. We had to abandon the vehicle during a snow / freezing rain even last week and then couldn't drive it for the next several days due to freezing conditions. I have replaced the heater core due to fogging windows 2 years ago and the ac had to be charged constantly to stay cool. This is dangerous to drive and you freeze during cold times. I always have to make sure precip in not expected whenever we drive this vehicle during winter months. Jeep owners need help with this. . . ! now my passenger window wont go up either.
2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Blower controller connector is overheating and melting connector and now not working. Replacement with new connector is possible from dealer with morpar repair kit #05102406aa . However. . . This does not fix the problem as it will happen again and again. This is due to strain on the blower motor drawing high amps because the common problem with this Jeep is with the ac "blend doors" which was the first problem for me. . . . As with many Jeep cherokee owners. It costs over $1000 to fix a simple problem with the blend door because the entire dash has to be removed! so, the blend doors are a common problem with an expensive fix, and if you don't fix it, the blower motor and controller will overheat, leaving you with no air control to remove moisture in damp weather. The controller could overheat, possibly cause a fire, or if the controller and blower don't work, you have no way of clearing foggy windows. . . . Bad thing! very frustrated as this should be part of a major recall. Why should so many Jeep owners have to pay for a simple, yet expensive fix?.
When blower motor turned on high panel under passenger side under dash getting extremely hot. Removed paneling under dash and wires are melting, too hot to touch! extreme fire hazard!!!! huge liability!! scared to even turn on blower motor any more due to possibility of fire. During current rain storm unable to get windows defogged to see to drive had to pull off to side of road.
Visibility: defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower having a visibility problem with the heater/airconditiong in car heating/airconditioning not clearing windshield. __________________.
Blend doors on the hvac system have failed. Passenger side only blows cold air. A common problem on these Jeeps.
The blend door on my Jeep Grand Cherokee stopped working all of a sudden and now I need to replace them which is going to cost hundreds of dollars.
Cold air blowing from passenger side vents and windshield defroster regardless of control or temp settings. Driver side temp adjustments work properly, but passenger side and windshield defroster controls do not provide any heat. Windshield does not defrost, as temp mix is not functioning for passenger vents or for windshield defroster. Problem has not been resolved.
Heat stopped working on the passenger side of my vehicle. Now there seems to be little to no heat on the driver's side. I was told that this has been an issue with the Jeep Grand Cherokee line, and yet nothing is done about it. Of course this always seems to happen after the warranty has expired. I have yet to pursue repairs as this will cost me almost $500.
Blend door for heater doesn't work, will not defrost windshield. Poor visibility.

I own a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland with 44,500 miles. The events leading up to the failure of the ventilation system were (1) rapid fogging of front windshield,(2) fogging of front passenger windows,(3) failure of passenger heat while still maintaining driver heat function, and (4) only cold air release on passenger side of Jeep. Consequently,(1) the windshield and front windows do not defog, and (2) no heat whatsoever comes from the passenger side floor and dashboard ventilation system. In addition to the fogging there is a leak of antifreeze, hazardous material, coming into the vehicle driver and passenger areas, due to defective heater core. To correct this problem, a "blend air door" is necessary and a new heater core at a cost of approximately $1,700 inclusive of 7 hours of labor. According to the certified service department at the local Jeep dealer and online forums, this has become a very common problem for 2000-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee limiteds/overlands with dual zone ventilation systems.
When heat is on, cold air blows from the passenger side. I believe the passenger side blend door is broken. I believe this is a factory/design problem and it affects the defogger and visibility. Estimates over $1,000 to repair.
I want complain about hvac system in myjeep Grand Cherokee overland 2002, I bought a car on 19. 11. 2007 and one week after I ve got cold air only and no heat /passenger and driver side/, outside -2 and after one hour driving temp inside +1 , so if im planning to go to centre of europe where in middle of January is about - 15 than I will be frozen over, that my first wj but I really disappointed when I heard that repair of this item in uk cost 1200 pounds!!!!!!!!!!!car done approx 48000 miles so im really anxious to think what would be happening when he reach 100,000. . . . . My god!.
The heater blower blows very cold air on passenger side. Very poor defrosting on windshield even with the temperature setting on max.
I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited and always heard noises from the vent since I bought the Jeep, got it checked out when it was under warranty and they did something to the actuator. A little over a year ago I had coolant leaking into my car on the passenger side, had to get a new heater core ($800) then when they finished no heat was coming out, it was the blend door so they had to redo all the work in getting in there ($350 after I complained), 3 months ago, same problem heater core leak ($920), now 3 months after that I have no heat, took it in last week, blend door problem and $730. I have no heat in my Jeep!! I cannot believe they do not have a recall for this problem with so many people having the same issue and I have had it twice! something should be done.
Blend door failure in the hvac system of my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland. Failure causes hvac system to blow cold air only. This could be catastrophic as I live in colorado and need heat in the winter for visibility out the windshield.
The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact noticed that the heating and cooling system did not work. She called the local dealer and they instructed her to bring the vehicle in for inspection. While driving at an unknown speed to the dealer, she noticed freon rising from the instrument panel. As a result, other components of the engine and engine cooling system began to fail. The air conditioning and heater no longer worked. The dealer stated that not only had her blower motor and resister failed, but the heater core, evaporator core, actuator, and blend door (which no longer provided heat on the driver side of the vehicle) were corroded as well. The dealer further stated that the freon from the instrument panel originated from the evaporator core, indicating the presence of ethanol (toxic gas). The manufacturer has not offered any assistance and stated that the failures were due to lack of maintenance. Currently, the estimated cost that the contact has spent on repairs is $2,000. The vehicle is at the dealer and has not been repaired. The failure mileage was 91,000 and current mileage was 91,350.
Climate control blend door failure - fogged up front window and nearly caused an accident.
No heat or defrost on passenger side.
Visibility: defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower.
My climate control system only provides cold air. When the heat failed it caused a rapid fogging of the windshield since the defroster went from hot to cold.
Heater blend door malfunction - due to wear on plastic pins Dodge garage said that it caused the blower motor to overheat and melted the wires going to the blower motor. Repairs will cost around 1200 dollars at the Dodge garage.
Ventilation system blend doors have broken, no control of airflow to the defroster. Safety issue, can't defrost windshield.
Creaking, shattering noises coming from the passenger side of the dash. Cold air coming out of vents, when it's not supposed to. Dealership told me it was the blend doors that are failing.
Air blend doors located deep inside dashboard have failed on my car & thousands of others. This causes the drivers compartment to typically freeze during winter months. Even though it is an admitted manufacturing defect, Chrysler will not issue a recall because it is not deemed enough of a safety issue. Since repairs are $1k or more, many people are putting off service or trying homemade remedies to fix the problem. Thus going without the repair or trying to do it yourself you make the drivers compartment very unsafe. Chrysler is making a huge profit off this repair and their service centers admit this.
The heater in the Grand Cherokee I own doesn't work and will not defrost the windshield causing discomfort and a safety visibility issue.
Blower motor/ visibility windshelid.
My passenger side heat is blowing cold air and I understand this is a common problem. It has been repaired before and I'm not going to pay anther $900 because its Jeeps fault.
Passenger-side a/c blend door is broken.
Blend door is broken must be replaced, heater only blows cold air on driver side, front windshield defroster only blows cold air, causes poor visibility due to fogging.
Blend door mechanism broke numerous times, blower motor resistor burnt up twice.
The passenger side vents on our 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee have started to blow warm air even with the a/c tuned to its lowest setting.
I purchased my 02 Jeep Grand Cherokee in 2004. In December of 2005, my heater went out. I had to replace a blend door. That was an $1,100 job. Now my air conditioning have went out with the same problem. I am looking at another $900 job. I have very loud noises coming from the panel when I shut off the engine. I am also 7 months pregnant and cannot afford this.
Hvac blend doors fail causing inadequate defrosting of windshield and uncontrollable temperatures within interior of vehicle $1593. 42 to repair.
