The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the wiring for the air conditioning unit and the heater coil resistor overheated and burned. There was a constant smell of burning heat through the interior of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who advised that there were no recalls and the resistor and wiring harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 184,893.
My ac system is faulty. Hot and cold air blows at the same time. Windows constantly fog up and I can't see. Getting blend door codes on the climate control reader.
The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact was driving 40 mph when the heater failed. The vehicle was inspected and it was discovered that the heater control modulator was melted. The vehicle was inspected and diagnosed as needing a replacement box. The vehicle was repaired but the failure was beginning to recur. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 127,000.
The defrost only works 50% of the time. Did not work while driving down the highway at 65mph. This was extremely dangerous as I could not see through the windshield. The next day was working fine and a week later I had the same issue. I had the heater core replaced and the issue is still happening.
I have been having troubles with the blender doors closing all the time on my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited. I have had the SUV for not even 3 years and the doors have closed 4 times already. 2 months ago they closed and it cost $1,200 to fix it, now 2 months later the doors closed again today 5/27/10. This is getting out of hand. These blender doors have a defect and Chrysler is not doing anything about it.
Dual control a/c heater unit on the Jeep Grand Cherokee limited stop working.
The heater failed in my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. This is apparently a very common problem in this model. Previously the seat heaters overheated and the power steering hose failed.
The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the heater ducts would not function correctly due to leakage in the evaporator coil. The heater core was replaced by the dealer. After the repair, moist air emitted throughout the vents causing the windows to become foggy. The contact had concern with the health and safety hazards regarding the air quality circulated throughout the vents. The failure mileage was 65,351.
Due to poor manufacturing and low quality parts, 1999-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokees have been subject to breakage of interior parts controlling the heating and a/c systems, including but not limited to the blend doors and actuator. This system breakdown can occur suddenly, and can affect both the a/c and heating systems. When this occurred to my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee ltd. It was in the dead of winter (Dec 2009) and the weather had been extremely cold. I was unable to properly defrost my windows, causing extreme difficulty in seeing out of my windshield and right side mirror. Because of this I was often having to roll down my windows--even if it was snowing--in order to drive safely to school and work. In March I took my car to a local Jeep dealership to get more information on this issue and I was told by one of the service advisor that this is a known problem in many Jeeps, and is seen very frequently. Due to the problem being in the dash of the vehicle, the repair quote is over $1,300. 00, and is not covered by my pre-owned vehicle protection plan with western general. Daimler-Chrysler has received thousands of complaints about this issue but refuses to recall a warranty or assist Jeep owners in repairing broken parts. I am not comfortable paying $1,300 and being penalized for daimler-Chrysler's mistake when, if repaired with the same parts, I could be facing this same issue again very soon!.
I am paying for a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I purchased used in 12-06. I have had a problem with the heater 6 months after I purchased it used, which the dealer would not repair. I called Chrysler and no one returned my call until this month. I received a recall about the fan blades and took it into the shop. Prior to the shop appointment the check engine light came on, I asked the service tech to check why the heater was not working and why the check engine light was on. He called me to tell me that the recall part was on back order and that the blend motor and doors on the heater were broken and that the leak detection pump had gone out, which would prevent me from getting it inspected. He also told me that the heater plugs were melted and it needed a wiring harness replacement. The dash gets very hot which has melted the plugs but no heat is blowing into the vehicle. This could cause a fire inside the vehicle. Also the leak detection pump is an emissions problem and per federallaw has to be operating in order to pass inspection. I spoke with Chrysler and asked them to repair the vehicle and they laughed at me, telling me this vehicle had been out of warranty for 4. 5 years. (it was out when I purchased it. )and if it were still under warranty then they would fix it. I also asked why if the recall had been out since 2006 then why was I just now getting it, and the part was on back order which tells me that I have been driving an unsafe vehicle. He also told me that the heater being broken was not a safety issue, it is due to not having heat to defrost windows and plugs melting could cause a fire. I have checked the web and there are so many web sites that talk about these problems with the Jeeps that go back to 1998- 2005. Please help me I am out of work due the medical problems and I have a very tight budget. I have contacted the n. C. Attorney generals office, consumer affairs, Chrysler, nat. Assoc. Consumer affairs. At this point nothing has been done. -sharon.
Heating system in 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee failed. I don't have defrost, heat. Have heard of numerous complaints from other cherokee owners with the same problem.
My 2002 grand Jeep cherokee's heat stopped working and I was told that the actuator doors were gone. This was determined by the dealer. Now my heated seats have stopped working. The dealership gave me an estimate of about 1300. 00 dollars to replace the doors.
Blend doors failed on 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Cannot get heat, defrost windows, etc. This happen to our Jeep at 80,000 miles, but I have heard from many Jeep owners with the same problem, some happening as soon as 40,000 miles. This is clearly a manufacturing defect and is a safety issue if one cannot properly defrost windows. Cost is $1,200 to repair per dealership.
Apparently there is a huge number of Jeep Grand Cherokee owners with defective blend door actuators. I am one of them. I own a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited and have no heat on my passenger side. No defrost, big safety issue. Dealer quotes over $1,000 to repair. I can't afford that!.
This is in regards to the blend door issue on Jeep Grand Cherokee models that have the dual climate control. The fact that this issue is imminent in nearly every one of these vehicles is disturbing enough in itself, but what is downright unacceptable is that the average cost to repair ranges from 1000. 00-1300. 00!! this issue is so prevalent that 3 different Jeep site forums have had so many Jeep owners bring this up that it has become a posted issue. I have recently purchased a 2002 model and, knock on wood, have not experienced this issue. I believe it actually may have already been taken care of, but in the event that I am wrong, I can only hope and pray that DC/Jeep has stepped up and done what is right, and, at the very least, as a recall/TSB, covers a large portion of this repair.
Brought my 02 Jeep Grand Cherokee in November 2007 had problems with the heat mode blowing cold out the passenger side vents. To stop this and make the passenger side feel the heat I had to tape up the vents on the passenger side. Well summer of 2008 began so I remove the tape from the vents. With the ac on the air flow was weak the as was recharged the driver side blew cold, but passenger side was weak. Around August turn on the ac nothing but a very weak airflow from both sides. The possible villains blend air doors and the air recirculation door. Cost from dealer to repair 1,000. 00 to 1,200. 00 the winter of 2008/ 2009 is approaching no heat and defrost. Could get dangerous. Pleas help!!!!!!!!.
Blend doors on my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee not working.
Blend door failure in 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. May 19, 2008.
I own a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited and it is equipped with dual climate control. I've noticed a funny noise coming from the bottom of the dash it almost sounds like a twisting or a clapping noise. Just recently I needed to turn on my heater because it was really cold out and for some reason although the temp was set all the way too high it was still blowing cold air from the driver side. However, the passenger side still worked fine. I bought this vehicle used and I know it will cost way more than I can ever afford for this repair. I have investigated this issue and understand that the problem is imminent to Jeep owners. I understand that the company feels it is not a safety issue but a luxury. However it is for most of us that own a SUV it is because we need to transport our families comfortably. For that is what they advertise. I have a new born child and I think it is ridicules I can not transport her in my Jeep because it is to cold for her and she would be at risk of getting pneumonia, because the Chrysler corporation has failed to take care of their customers. Please help us in making the company fix their inadequate climate control problem and live up to their expectations.
Cold air blowing from passenger side vents and windshield defroster regardless of control or temp settings. Driver side temp adjustments work properly, but passenger side and windshield defroster controls do not provide any heat. Windshield does not defrost, as temp mix is not functioning for passenger vents or for windshield defroster. Problem has not been resolved.
The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland. While driving 55 mph with the heater engaged, the heater failed to blow from the front passenger side blower. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the dealer advised the contact that the blend air door on the front passenger side would need replacing. The contact stated that the failure caused the defrost on the passenger side to become inoperable and would decrease visibility. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 50,000.
This is a complaint against NHTSA. It appears that even though 100's of consumers have complained about a certain problem with the air flow blend door on Jeep gc products nothing is done about it. It is obvious that this failure is a defect and not a wear and tear problem. I am sure there would be 1000s of complaints but not everyone knows about this site or they dont have a computer. It appears that this web site does nothing but allow people to vent about problems with their vehicles and nothing more is done about it or with it. Our tax dollars pay these people at NHTSA and we get nothing for our money. They don't care about how much money it costs you to fix something and they dont care if it could possibly cause you physical injury or emotional pain because if they did then they would have determined that this problem is a defect. . This is not the first time I have been personally affected by the actions, well lack of actions by the NHTSA. I feel it is a waste of time for anyone to file a complaint with the NHTSA since they do nothing with the information you give them. Have a happy holiday season all you Jeep Grand Cherokee owners.
Repeated climate control blend door failure on 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Climate control blend door failure - fogged up front window and nearly caused an accident.
Hvac unit in my Jeep wj, 2002, broke. Determined to be blend door and recirculation door malfunction. Common problem with very expensive repair!!!.
The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the dual heat system failed and would not allow the heat to circulate. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where they advised him that the dual heating system needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
The heat on the passenger side of the Jeep is blowing cold air in winter, even when it is set to maximum heat. The dealer told me that there is a service bulletin on the blend door and they want over $700 dollars to fix it. My question is if they know there is a problem with it from design how come they don't fix it for free and why should I pay for it when they knew they sold me a bad design. Also now the ac is blowing hot air and they are telling me it is the same problem with the blend doors. This is a safety issue since in the winter I can not defrost the front windshield and have to pull over to clean the ice and fog build up from inside the window.
The hvac blend doors on my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee (wj) overland failed at approximately 88, 000 miles causing a loss of heat and defrost abilities. Due to the construction of the vehicle it will require a trained mechanic a quoted seven hours of labor to replace a plastic part which has failed. I believe this is a safety hazard, the loss of defrost ability, that Jeep manufactures have been aware of and that a recall should be issued so that these Jeeps, regardless of mileage may be repaired at no cost to the current Jeep owner.
The heater/air conditioner began working less and less efficiently. Now neither will work at all, causing my family to travel unless the weather is just right. Nothing the repairs cost $1400.
2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee blowing cold air. I had this looked by the dealer and they said that they needed to replace hvac sub assemblies. They quoted me $1000 to have this fixed. After researching this problem online, it appears that this is a common problem for 2002 (plus other model years) Jeep Grand Cherokees.
In the fall of 2007, the heat on the passenger side of 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee stopped working. I did some online research and this problem was so common that I easily found plenty of people with the exact same problem that were able to self-diagnose the problem using the Jeeps internal computer to output the system faults. Using the same method to enter the azc self-diagnostic mode, the climate control display output the system fault codes 52-54-56. Since most of the consumers I've run into with this problem get that exact code, or have had the same problem diagnosed by a Jeep dealership service department, I already know that it will cost anywhere from $1000+ to be repaired, the majority of it being labor as the entire instrument panel assembly has to be removed. To address this problem, daimler-Chrysler released TSB 2400104 - new hvac sub-assembly replaces blend or recirc door components. Each new sub-assembly consists of several individual components. The new sub-assemblies improve component reliability. It is recommended that the respective sub-assembly be installed if a blend air door(s), a recirculation door, a door link, or a sub-assembly housing requires replacement. These new parts cost less than $200 according to the bulletin, but I find it hard to believe that daimler-Chrysler expects their customers to pick up the tab on a design flaw. Especially a design flaw that is so labor intensive that even though the parts are less than $200, the final bill will be more than $1,000. A job so consuming that it wouldn't be wise to have it serviced by anything but a Jeep service technician. Not to mention some repair shops wont even take on the job due to the time and possible accountability of such a project. This is a major safety issue; not only because you lose the ability to defrost but of the effects extreme cold can have on a body too. The nhtsb needs to address this with daimler chrylser.
I own a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland edition with dual climate zones. When the heat is on, passenger side vents blow cold air. Driver side vents blow warm air. In looking on Jeepforum. Com, it appears that this is happening to most people who own this type of vehicle. It is a known blend door issue.
I purchased my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited 2 years ago, and 6 months ago, the passenger side blend door actuator died as well as broke the blend door itself upon inspection. This is a problem as it takes removal of the entire dashboard, draining and refilling the ac system and draining and refilling the antifreeze. I spent greater than 10 hours working on the problem. . Events leading up to failure: normal usage of vehicle cabin comfort and safety controls (air conditioning/demister) systems. Failure: cabin air conditioning system now does not regulate temperature. The system cannot be made to use hot or cold air on demand. In investigating this failure, it has come to my attention that 99% of all other owners of this vehicle report experiencing a failure of the 'temperature blend control doors' within the 'a/c blend assembly'. Consequences: the vehicle demister is unable to clear the front windshield of mist/fogging (effectively, depending on outside temperature). Corrections: no corrections have been performed due to cost prohibitive expense to do so. The local dealerships quote a price of around $1800. 00 to repair the failure, while obtaining parts and performing self-repair will cost upwards of $300. 00 plus time spent.
The heating system in my vehicle has a part that has gone out and is 1,300 to fix when Jeep knows there is a problem with the heating in the years 1999 to 2004 when the windows fog up you can only defrost one side of the vehicle the other you can't see out which could cause a crash which could be deadly.
