1 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 03/24/2013

I have owned my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo for 10 years. I purchased the car new from liberty auto city in libertyville, IL. At 80,000 miles, I was leaving for school when I noticed my driver side window had fallen into the door. When I tried to use the switch to raise the window, it did not work. I took this car to the dealership, they knew right away that I had a problem with the window regulator, and they fixed it to the tune of $400. The dealership knew what it was because they have fixed so many, and the novice internet surfer would be able to search out this problem and find a myriad of complaints from Grand Cherokee and liberty owners alike. I understand a class action lawsuit was filed in California by Jeep liberty drivers, and Jeep has since extended the warranty on liberty windows. Jeep reimbursed me $300 of the $400 dollars for this first incident. Now, last Sunday, I was leaving my home to work the night shift at the hospital, and I noticed the passenger window was rolled all the way down - sure enough, the same thing happened to the other window. I drove to work in a snow storm with the passenger window rolled down. Now Jeep will not reimburse me for the regulator, which again cost $400 to replace. Again, my new Jeep dealership, fletcher auto in columbia, missouri, knew exactly what the problem was because they also have seen it often with vehicles from this time period. I urge you to act to create a recall for this known defective part that has caused significant trouble and expense. I was not in danger, but I had to be at work to cover my shift, so I drove in the storm and had to leave my car in an open air unguarded parking garage with the window down all night. I believe Jeep should be held accountable for this. I apologize for not providing my VIN#, I am actually working in the hospital right now for another shift.

2 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2011

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Consumer states problem with front window regulators the front window regulators were replaced by an authorized Jeep repair facility three times in the past 14 months. The consumer stated based on owner reports, the plastic piece on the window lift mechanism that held the cable appeared to be at least part of the problem.

3 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 05/27/2010

Driving along the highway when the passenger window started to go down by itself. I had some paperwork in the car and it started blowing around, causing me to become distracted and nearly hitting another car on the highway until I was able to pull over safely. The window regulator failed, which is a common problem with the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

4 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2010

Failure of both passenger and driver front window control mechanisms within 17 months of each other. Replacement is $545. 00 each, with two hours labor ($212. 00) being charged when it took less than 1 hour to complete replacement. Service was at a Jeep dealership.

5 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2009

In may 2009 my passenger front window regulator went out. My local Jeep dealership said that Jeep makes cheap window regulator parts and this is a common problem with Jeeps. Yet they wanted to charge me $497. 00 to fix problem. I went ahead and fixed it, because I couldn't drive around with a window rolled down everywhere I went. Now 5 months later the passenger rear window has also broken, due to the same problem and the sunroof will also not close properly. I feel that if Jeep admits to using cheap parts for their windows, then they should also fix them for free when they break so often. I cannot afford close to $500 per window every 6 months when they keep breaking.

6 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 05/18/2009

I own a 2002 Jeep cherokee 4x4 quad drive ,I recently broke down had to be towed. The problem was cooling fan. Due to the relay switch. This is just one of many electrical problems I have with this Jeep the door lock motors failed the windows failed on both driver and passenger side doors the bk hatch failed. The cost for the relay pkg was 347. 59 I have yet to replace passengerside window operator and driverside door locks as they are both well over 300. 00 each. This seems to be a defect as I have heard the same complaints from people that own 2002 Jeep cherokees.

7 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 03/29/2009

I own a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo. In the spring of 2007, my driver's side window regulator broke (the window fell, would not roll up or down). I had it replaced. In October 2007, the same thing happened to my passenger side window. In may 2008, the same to my right rear passenger window, and in sept 2008, the same to my left rear passenger window. All windows have failed within one year of each other. The final straw was today when the rear drivers side window regulator failed again. I do not have the money to fix these, and believe that Chrysler should issue a recall to repair the windows. I have received an estimate of $347 per window to repair the three windows. I can't afford this and expect Jeep to correct the problems.

8 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2008

The windows in this Jeep have always worked great. On December 3th, we rolled the window down, but it wouldn't go up. The regulator in the passenger side front window broke and the window will not roll up. It will soon be fixed.

10 Power Window problem

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited (v8) went out to car this morning and driver side windows was half down in door - tried to roll it up - nothing. Window then fell into door frame completely - regulator problem with plastic part.

11 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 04/08/2008

While rolling up driver side front window, heard a loud noise within car door. Window then fell into door and would not go back up. Informed by dealer that the regulator was broken. Service dept stated that this happens frequently because the part is made of plastic. Was charged $295 for replacement part. Exact same thing happened to my brother, who also owns a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee, two months ago.

12 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2007

While driving, the front passenger side window slid down in its track. I had to pull over and pull the window up by hand. The same thing happened to my Jeep's front driver side window on 12/22/05, except that occurred at night and it was 15 degrees outside (lived in NY at the time)-had to drive half an hour home with the window wide open.

13 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 12/08/2007

I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have had to have 3 window regulators replaced. I only have one left, who knows when that will go, perhaps next year, because it seems one breaks per year. I have had each of these replaced at a Chrysler dealer. Chrysler is quite aware that this is a problem with it's vehicles, but is unwilling to do anything about it, because it is not a "safety issue". This part with labor is $460 each time it needs to be replaced. Chrysler is willing to keep draining the pockets of its consumers with no care to its loyal customers. There are 5 pages of complaints on automotive. Com with the same issues. I want to file an official complaint. Chrysler is unwilling to do anything to correct the problem, because the vehicle is no longer under warranty. I would like my money back. I think this car is a lemon!!!! I have put more money into this vehicle over the last two years then I have paid for the car. I hope you can help me retrieve some of my financial losses.

14 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2007

While vehicle was parked, driver side window fell, and power window control failed to raise the window. It is now stuck in the half-open position, pending repair. My research shows that this is a common recurring problem among Jeep owners, and that the repair is approx. $400 for each incident. Given the hundreds of owner reports I have since discovered for this exact problem, Chrysler should issue a recall to both improve the quality of the part(s) and remedy the problem.

15 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2007

We have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee and since the first month that we purchased it nwe we have had problems with the window regulators breaking. We have now had four to break in the five years that we have had the vehicle. The first one that broke was repaired under warranty, but the other three have taken place since the beginning of August of this year. The first window regulator that we had to have repaired by the dealership cost $422. We have not had the other two windows fixed yet, because we are hoping that daimler Chrysler will help us out with this. I have contacted the customer service center and they will not cover the malfunction due to the warranty expiring. I feel this is an eventual safety issue. When the cable snaps it sounds like a shot gun firing, which could cause the driver to react to the noise. More than anything, I find it to be a manufacturing defect that consumer nation wide are having to pay for. I have read hundreds of similar problems of Jeep Grand Cherokee owners on car forum websites on the internet.

16 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2007

I have owned my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee for 2 years now. Overall I have loved the car but two weeks ago on the way home the driver's window just dropped into the door. Thinking that was odd and a rarity we continued home. Later that evening the left passenger window did the exact same thing. I decided that this wasn't a rarity but some sort of defect and turned to the internet to find out what I should do about the problem. To my dismay I find that there are lots of people that have run into the exact same problem and that it is because of a piss poor design that Jeep doesn't want to fix. Even more to my dismay I find that not only does Jeep not want to fix the issue that want to charge $450 per window to fix it.

17 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2007

In April 2007 the passenger power window of my 2002 Jeep cherokee limited stopped working, now 5 months later my drivers power window has done the same thing. Dealership says it's not a recall item. . . How is this possible? I see on all the blogs that this problem is rampant with 02 Grand Cherokees. Updated 09/26/07.

18 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2007

2nd window regulator on my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee within 3 mos that has stopped working. After calling several local parts stores in the area, I was told by most of them that this is a common problem with the Jeep. I also learned that the part can only be purchased by Jeep directly. I called Jeep to find out if the part has been recalled, none available. This part alone is $300, with labor the repair is $459. My vehicle currently has 66,000 miles on it.

19 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2007

We own 2 Jeep gc laredos, and have had 3 window regulators fail in the last 3 months. The loud pop and the window dropping each time has almost caused crashes. While this wa s not currently a huge safety issue it was definitely a major design fault and Jeep should act on it with a recall. Also, like most people we had warped rotors and brake problems from the start , 3 times for the Jeep and 2 times for my husband's Jeep.

Power window regulators have failed on all four windows on my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I know that I am not the only one with this problem, and if enough people have been affected, hopefully NHTSA will pressure the manufacturer into recalling these vehicles.

30 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2006

On 10-30-06 the driver side window of my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee failed. I was informed by the dealer that it was probably a regulator and the cost would be approximately $550. 00. The Jeep has 33,000 mile on it and has a 7 year 70,000 mile warranty, the dealer stated that the part was not covered by the warranty. I had it replaced at superior window glass, the part and labor costs were $343. 00. This should have been covered by daimler Chrysler corporation.

31 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2006

I see my first complaint about my 02 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland. My second complaint didn't make it on the list. Since then I've have 2 more window regulators go out. Wrote letters to Jeep and anyone I can think of. No responces!!! this is a very serious safety issue. We were out to dinner and the window right next to the infant car seat had fallen into the door and a very cold night it was. On our way home, the other window had fallen into the door. Now there is no way to protect the baby in the back in the baby seat strapped in with two open windows blowing cold air at him. What if his car seat would have been stolen when we were in the restaurant??? how would have we got him home safely. What if it had been raining or snowing on him all the way home?? what if I was riding alone and had been car jacked?? what if was really inclement weather affecting the inside of my vehicle all that night and not knowing that the windows had fallen into the doors??? I really don't feel safe taking the baby in the affected vehicle with me any more. Why did I pay so much money for the "valued Jeep" I purchased when so much is going wrong with it. I only have 46000 miles on it now. Chrysler really needs to stand up to it's faults with their vehicles and help pay for "their" customers that trust in them!!!!!!!!!!.

32 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2006

Visibility: defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower blend doors and recirculation doors no longer function. To my knowledge, this is a design flaw and will affect every 1999-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee with auto climate control. The dealerships request a ridiculously high price for repairs. Jeep/Chrysler should step up and correct this malfunction in their faulty product.

33 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2006

I bought my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee new. Since that time I have had to replace the regulator in the window mechanism three times. The front driver's side window went out while the vehicle was still under warranty. The front passenger side window went out after three years and the rear driver's side window went out six months later. In all cases when this happened the window falls down into the door and will not stay in the up position. The last time it happened was during a freezing rain storm with my 16-month old in the back seat. Not being able to keep a window closed is a hazard in many ways. Things can blow into the vehicle, things can blow out of the vehicle into the roadway, etc. When I mentioned to the dealer that replaced the most recent regulator that three of the same component going out was a little more than a coincidence, he agreed and said their shop had replaced quite a few of those lately. I have literally rolled down the back window less than 20 times ever since having the vehicle so I know it is not "wear and tear. " this is obviously a component defect.

34 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 09/27/2006

Front drivers side window regulator failed and window fell into door.

35 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2006

: the contact stated the passenger side front and rear and the driver side front power windows slid down on their own and would not come back up. There was a broken white plastic piece noted inside the window. The contact replaced the driver side front window. The dealership was contacted. Additionally, once while driving on a dry highway at 60 mph, the cruise control was set at 60 mph; when the contact depressed the brake, the cruise control did not deactivate and accelerated until the gas pedal went to the floor. The contact applied the brake again and the vehicle slowed to a stop.
