36 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2007

- the contact stated that when driving the 2002 Jeep grand at 45 mph on clear road conditions the air conditioner started to blow cold air on the passenger side. The problem occurred when he turned on the heater. Also caused cold air to blow onto the windshield. The cold air blew onto the windshield that caused the windshield to freeze. The contact was unable to see out of the windshield once it froze. When he attempted to turn the heater off it continued to blow cold air as long as the engine was running. The vehicle was being inspected by the dealership. The vehicle currently had 59000 miles.

37 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2007

My 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited edition SUV has had a significant failure in the hvac unit. The passenger side vents only blow out cold air, as if the air conditioner was on, but the temperature is set on high. The driver side vents blow out air according to the controls but the speed of the air is weak, even though the controls are set on high.

38 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2007

Driving through another state in sub-zero temperatures, my heater immediately and without notice, stopped working in my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I could not proceed further, as I had in the vehicle older people who would be too susceptible to the cold. I took it to a dealer who told me they have fixed over 16 of these problems with the blend doors at $1000 for the cost to fix it.

39 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2007

Complaint # 10179028 - blend door - denso's hvac system is substandard and an expensive fix; not covered under extended warranties.

40 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2007

I too have purchased one of the junk vehicles with it's un-usable extended warranty. My passenger side heat went out first and now all my heat is gone. I don't feel this complaint has been looked at by anyone when it is clearly a safety hazard to drive in inclement weather. All of us who have been duped by Chrysler should get together and start a class action lawsuit against Chrysler. I do know one thing for sure. This is the last Chrysler vehicle I will ever own!.

41 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2007

My 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee first lost heat on the passenger side, then a few months later the drivers side heat would not work as well. I was told by my mechanic that the blend doors actuators were not working and would have to be replaced at the cost of $800-$1000. I have been told this is a very common problem. I think this should be a recall issue. Please advise.

42 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2007

Heater blend door broken. No heat at all!! kind of dangerous if you can't defrost your windows because you have no heat. This is a very common occurrence for my model Jeep Grand Cherokee.

43 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 01/26/2007

Ventilation system does not properly work. 1/2 of system blows cold air when heat is requested of system. Known and widespread issue on vehicle listed. Creates safety issue as defroster does not completely and safely remove frost/fog from windshield.

44 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 01/24/2007

- the contact called regarding 2002 Chrysler Grand Cherokee. The heater failed in the vehicle. The Chrysler dealer has diagnosed the problem as the mid-case blend door unit needing to be replaced. The failure mileage was 59,000.

45 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2007

The passenger side vents blow cold. Driver side vents work fine.

46 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2007

My blend doors are broken. I receive no heat from the drivers side. I have searched every Jeep forum I can find and have found this to be a very common issue, not due to usage but poor planning on the manufacturers part by using poor construction.

47 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2007

About 3 months ag, the blower started blowing out cold air on the passenger's side. Just figured out what was wrong and going to try and find the part and fix it.

48 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2007

The heat in my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited (72,500 miles) stopped distributing heat. First the heat stopped on the passenger side, then a few weeks later, the heat failed everywhere. I had to get the blender doors, actuator, heater core and evaporator replaced. The cost of the repair at a Jeep dealership cost nearly $1,500. I've heard this is a common problem on this model Jeep.

49 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2007

On my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited with only 55,000 miles, the defrost / heater does not work properly. From my limited research, it appears the blend door for the dual climate control is an issue for many Jeep owners. Note: does TSB 2041004 apply to this issue?.

50 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2007

2202 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Had only cold air on passenger side; but still had function on driver's side. Now no heat whatsoever. Cannot clear windshield. Estimate for repair at local garage $1500-1800. Told is very common with cherokees. When will someone take responsibility for this issue?.

51 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2007

No heat on passenger side in January 2007, September 2007 no air both sides, then November 2007 no heat at all from both sides. The Jeep has been in and out of the dealer all year with many issues, as employee of Chrysler , I love my Jeep that I purchased new, just not happy with the repair work needed all the time .

52 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2007

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee ltd with dual zone cilmate control system. At 50,000 miles the passenger side heat and defroster stopped working. Now in at 60,000 miles the driver side heater has also failed. Per a web site it is a very common occurance with this vehical. It appears chyrsler is not taking any action to recall this saftey issue.

53 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2006

Started the car and one day the heater just started blowing cold air. Never made any noise or anything but slowly the passenger side stopped blowing hot air then the driver side and even the windshiled. No repair has been made becuase of the cost ranging from 1,000 to 1,500 dollars. New parts need to be made free of this defect and manufacturer should cover the cost of repair to every owner in which it occurs.

54 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2006

1) rapid fogging of front windsheild,(2) fogging of front passenger windows,(3) failure of passenger heat while still maintaining driver heat function, and (4) only cold air release on passenger side of Jeep. Consequently,(1) the windsheild and front windows do not defog, and (2) no heat whatsoever comes from the passenger side floor and dashboard ventilation system. To correct this problem, a "blend air door" is necessary at a cost of approximately $1,200 inclusive of 7 hours of labor. According to the certified service department at the local Jeep dealer and online forums, this has become a very common problem for 2000-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee limiteds with duel zone ventilation systems. Dealer said no recall due to no safety concern. Isn't a window that can't be defrosted a safty concern?.

55 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2006

No heat on the passenger side. Windshield fogged up on passenger side. Defroster didn't work. Greasy substance on inside windshield and windows. Diagnosis: shaft on blend door broken ie. No heat. Replace shaft & door. Expensive. Heater core had to be replaced - very expensive. Had to go in through the dash for both repairs. Jeep not interested in talking to us about these problems.

56 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 12/25/2006

A/c system blows cold air only due to high failure item known to daimler-Chrysler. Results in no defog during cold weather unless you want cold a/c blowing during the winter with sub-freezing temperatures. Problem can be eliminated if you buy a Jeep grande cherokee in tropical climates only.

57 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2006

Regarding my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee ltd. . . . Only cold air blows from heater on passenger side of car. . . Have been told this is a very common blend door failure on this model and an extremely labor intensive, expensive repair.

58 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2006

I own a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited with 51,474 miles. I purchased this as a used car on Nov 30, 2006 from a reputable (?) dealer. To my mistake, we did not check out the heat. We do live in south west fla. Upon needing heat to take the dew off my windshield I found I have none. My windshield and side windows do not clear on mornings that heat would help in that situation. It is extremely dangerous as you would expect. No heat comes from anywhere. The dealer checked it out and said it was a "blend air door" problem and would not be covered under a used auto purchase since we declined the extended warranty. (we took it back on Dec. 12,2006 to be checked out at dealer) the dealer said it was a "common problem that costs a lot of money, usually over $1000 to replace. I then asked my own mechanic his opinion and he said he will not touch the repair because of the time, labor, and money involved in doing this when he thinks it is a dealer issue. If you do an internet search for blend air door problems you will find this a common problem for 2000-2004 Jeeps.

59 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 12/09/2006

Blower system blend door failure.

60 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 12/08/2006

My Jeep Grand Cherokee's ventilation system has a fault component which causes the vents to blow all cold or all hot air. It causes my windshield to fog up uncontrollably. The repair should really be the product of a factory recall, instead, it will cost me approx $1400 to fix this problem on my own. I know this is a major failure point on these vehicles from 1999-2004. It is a major safety concern and I am willing to file a class-action suit against daimler Chrysler as a result of this failure.

61 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2006

Defroster stopped blowing hot air, windshield fogged up, blender door on heating system needed to be replaced.

62 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2006

Failed hvac blender doors have caused vehicle to lose heat functionality. This is causing the car to be unable to defrost so during poor weather conditions the vehicle is unusable.

63 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2006

- the contact stated that while driving his 2002 Jeep grande cherokee (failure mileage 38500) at 35 mph in the snow at 18 degrees, the defroster failed to operate properly. It began to blow cold air and then stopped functioning . The windows steamed up and visibility was poor. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and he was notified that the blend doors were sticking, and not opening and closing the way they should be. The contact is concerned about having an crash due to poor visibility.

64 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2006

(1) none that we are aware of. Feature just stopped functioning. (2) the air conditioning and heater does not direct air flow properly. Cold air is directed to the lower passenger side vent regardless of control settings. (3) duct tape placed over passenger lower air outlet. Other: the problem started before our extended 70,000 warranty had expired but we didn't realize there was a problem until just after passing 70,000 miles. We kept trying to adjust the controls until it became obvious there was some problem with the way the controls were responding to settings. We are not sure of all the effects this problem may have, such as loss of control of other air conditioner / heater settings which may affect visibility related to the defroster/defogger system as controled by the windshield blower.

65 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2006

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee - climate control blend door failure. The passenger side temperature blend door failed at 53k miles. This is a known problem with all Jeep Grand Cherokees. The failure was repaired under a self purchased (I. E non-Chrysler) warranty with a $250 deductible. The warranty company would not repair the drivers side bend door, thus this repair will most likely need to be performed again.

66 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2006

Bad design/material of hvac component , blend door, causes part to brake, which then does not permit heated air to defrost passenger's side of front windshield, ice builds up on windshield, causing poor visability.

67 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2006

Several months ago I lost heat on the passengers side in my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited 4x4 sport utility 4dr. I had been trying to save up some money to go have this fixed, and had been searching all over the internet looking on Jeep' websites even, trying to figure out what was wrong with my Jeep. Then on Friday, November 10, 2006, the driver side heat quit working during a snow storm. I left work about 5:00 pm and it was snowing and starting to freeze. The windows werent getting foggy or anything they where just icing up it got to the point where I could only see out of a little spot right where the fan blew on the window. I went 35 mph on a 65 mph speed zone because oncoming traffic would temporarily blind me. I don't live in florida, I live in montana. What are people around here suppose to do when this happens to them. Stop on the side of the road to scrape the ice of their windows, as another vehicle plows over them, due to the icy road conditions. In montana we have long commutes, some people drive from red lodge all the way to billings. It takes an hour and â½ to 2 hours depending on the weather. We don't have taxis. This problem can happen at any time. This may not be a problem to people in a warmer climate, but it is to people up north. A very common problem in 1999-2004 model Grand Cherokees has been weak blend and recirculation doors in the hvac systems. In January of 2004 Jeep issued an informational TSB (#24-001-04) which introduced newly designed sub assemblies. Www. Wjjeeps. . Read more...

68 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2006

Windshield fogs to point of zero visability. Hvac has failed - no heat from any vent. The windshield will not defrost/defog making the vehicle extremely unsafe to operate in rain and cold weather.

69 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 10/25/2006

: the contact stated while driving 65 mph on normal road conditions, the windshield defroster did not work. There were no warning lights illuminated prior to the incident. The vehicle was taken to the dealership, who determined the mid case blend needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was also contacted, who expressed the failure was not a safety feature and the repair must be covered by the contact. The contact expressed concern because a lack of visibility should be considered a safety risk and the repair was rather expensive.

70 Defogger problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2006

I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland that had approximately 46,000 miles at the time of incident. It was a previously owned vehicle and about 6 months after purchase, I turned on the heater and there was nothing but cold air blowing. When I went to the dealer to get it fixed, they said it could be a simple computer problem, or a major mechanical problem, where the vents get stuck. It ended up being the major one, and they said it was common for this to happen on this model Jeep. They installed new blend doors and actuator motors, which cost me about $1,200. It is so costly because they have to remove the entire dash to reach the problem. The labor was $776. 04 and the parts were $389. 47 after it was returned, about a month later, my car wouldn't start up, because the dealer did not fully connect a wire harness back together, so it vibrated loose and wouldn't allow the keys to start the ignition. This is a safety feature of the vehicle, where the keys have to be programmed to work in the ignition. It made it so it didn't read my previously programmed working keys. I ended up being stranded about 10 miles from the dealer. Thanks to aaa, they came and picked the car up, and then took it to the dealer, which they fixed that for free, on account of it being their fault.
