I own a 2002 Jeep gc limited, the passenger side vents only blows cold air, my mechanic had told me this is a very common and expensive problem, but that Chrysler motors has not yet issued any kind of recall for this issue. He also told me that eventually the driver side will also fail, because the defective part is poorly made.
Hvac system died, blend doors and recirc doors located under dash have failed, this is a common problem on this vehicle, $2000 to fix, Chrysler should recall this problem as every Grand Cherokee experiences it. So until fixed no ventilation, notable defrost so windshield fogs up causing unsafe visibility.
The heating/air conditioning system on 2002 Grand Cherokee was faulty. The vehicle has just over 65000 miles on it. I just had it repaired at a cost of over $1000 and it was still making noises that lead me to believe it will fail again. It wasnacceptable that a car company with as much experience as daimler Chrysler could not design a quality heating / air conditioning system.
Ventilation system failure, cannot use defrost to see out windshield when fog appears.
Events leading up to failure: normal usage of vehicle cabin comfort and safety controls (air conditioning/demister) systems. Failure: cabin air conditioning system now does not regulate temperature. The system cannot be made to use hot or cold air on demand. In investigating this failure, it has come to my attention that 99% of all other owners of this vehicle report experiencing a failure of the 'temperature blend control doors' within the 'a/c blend assembly'. Consequences: the vehicle demister is unable to clear the front windshield of mist/fogging (effectively, depending on outside temperature). Corrections: no corrections have been performed due to cost prohibitive expense to do so. The local dealerships quote a price of around $1800. 00 to repair the failure, while obtaining parts and performing self-repair will cost upwards of $300. 00 plus time spent.
- the contact stated that whenever he drives the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 105000 failure mileage) at night or in the morning a the windows get fogged, the defrost only worked on half of the window. One side blew out cold air, and the other side blew out hot. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who stated that one of the bend doors failed and jammed the other ones. The dealer stated that they saw this problem often. The vehicle has not been repaired. The current mileage was 106423.
Blend air doors broken. Blow cold air all the time.
1)unknown, purchased as pre-owned 2)vehicle won't start right away, turn key to start then wait approx 10 seconds and try again, typically will then start, all other electrical parts would come on. On two occasions vehicle was towed because it would not start at all. Entire electrical system went haywire, no gauges, power windows and locks did not work. Heat/ac blower randomly works. 3)computer was replaced, starter was replaced, ignition switch was replaced. Problem still exists, but much more infrequently. Was advised by phil long Jeep repair that there is no part available to repair blower on heat/ac unit. Windows fog and freeze, no visibility. This has been an ongoing problem for many months. Complete failure occurred sometime in March 2007.
(1) unknown, none (2) blend door failure: unable to defrost, visibility obstructed (3) hasn't been correct yet.
Defroster and defogger not working properly. Limited visibility due to foggy windows. Need to have blend doors replaced.
Blend door failure. No heat to window defroster/defogger. Unable to clear window to see out.
Air condition blowing cold air regardless of settings. Loud noises during operation. Failure to defrost properly.
The a/c in my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee is not working properly. It doesn't cool down, one side blows cool, the other hot, there is a fan noise and there is cold "condensation" smoke (?) that blows out at times. I have been told that the blend door motor needs to be replaced. I was quoted a parts price of $94. 00 and approximately 5. 2 hours worth of labor.
Front passenger defroster has failed causing the front window to not defrost on the passenger side.
2002 Jeep limited. Winter of 2007 vents on passenger side only blows cold air. Dashboard, windshield defroster and rear seat vents only blow cold air. Major safety problem because cannot defrost front windows due to cold air. Dealer states that they have been getting flooded with 2002 ltd's this year with this problem, and approximately 50% of 2002 Jeep limited have this problem. It is caused by broken hinges on vent door under dashboard. Cost to repair is over $1,000.
Cold air blows from one side of the dash even when the heat is turned on. Defrosting/defogging of the windshield is not accomplished.
My Jeep Grand Cherokee has a bad ventilation system. This is a manufacturing defect which affects all Jeep Grand Cherokee's manufactured with auto climate controls from 1999-2004. I have had to bring mine in for repair twice now, and it has once again failed. The levers in the ventilation ducts have plastic components which, over time, break down and crack causing cold-only or hot-only air to blow from the vents. This issue causes major fogging of the windshield at times depending upon how the levers get stuck, which is a serious and major safety concern- I have to pull over and wipe the windshield down so I can see. I lead a group comprised of over 1000 people who have formed expressly as a result of this matter; all of our vehicles are ailing, and rest assured, there are thousands more out there with this problem who probably aren't even aware our group united against daimler Chrysler even exists. It would be in DC's best interest to issue a recall or settlement agreement before this turns into another class-action suit like they experienced with the 99-03 Jeep Grand Cherokee brake rotor/caliper matter earlier in the year.
2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee - broken "heater blend doors". Internal failure resulted in approx. $850 repair. Research has shown that this is a common failure for this model Jeep. Four dealerships told me that this "happens to all 99-04 cherokees" and that Jeep has not been willing to issue a recall.
Heater no longer working. . Dealer found to be "faulty blend door" and "recir door". The issue causes windows to fog making it difficult to see while driving. I was quoted $1200-1600 to have repaired at dealer. . It's too expensive as I'm on a very limited budget. . . But very concerned about the safety of this vehicle.
The defroster/defogger system has failed preventing warm air from circulating to the defrost ducts making it un-safe and in-operable to drive this vehicle in weather that would require the defroster/defogger system. Nm.

Blend door on my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited initially stopped at that point and only blows cold air to the passenger. Now a year later I have no heat at all. Disappointed for sure and from the numbers of people with this problem, seems to be defective from the start. A recall should be called. 1500-1800 to fix on a car with less that 43,000 miles, give me a break, no wonder more people are buying japanese.
Replacement of broken blend door and leaking heater core.
Automatic climate control system failed, was replaced and now the defrost is not working again after being repaired previously.
The heating/air conditioning on my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited is malfunctioning. It blows out cold air on the passenger side when I'm calling for heat.
Cold air only / no heat or defogger on drivers side / door travel too small / large. Dealer quote of $1100 to repair/replace hvac sub assemblies.
Visibility: defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower.
Air conditioning subassembly blend mode doors are not functioning properly. When the air conditioner is on, air will blow on the driver's side but not on the passenger side.
Hvac blend doors fail causing inadequate defrosting of windshield.
No heat on passenger side. Recirculation does not work. Blower fan intermittent. Repairs are too costly. . . Estimated to be $1,500.
The blend doors on my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee with automatic climate control have failed. First the passenger side blend door failed and would only blow cold air, while the drivers could blow warm air. Now the drivers side blend door has failed as well and will only blow cold air. It costs over $1000 at the Jeep dealership to repair a blend door since it requires complete removal of the dash assembly. The Jeep dealership service technician said blend door failure is a very common occurrence with the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. This is a major problem since this the front windshield defogger becomes ineffective when the blend door is broken.

I own a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland with 60,000 miles. The events leading up to the failure of the ventilation system were (1) rapid fogging of front windshield,(2) fogging of front passenger windows,(3) failure of passenger heat and driver heat function, and (4) only cold air release on both sides of Jeep. Consequently,(1) the windshield and front windows do not defog, and (2) no heat whatsoever comes from the passenger side floor and dashboard ventilation system. To correct this problem, a "blend air door" is necessary at a cost of approximately $1,200 inclusive of 7 hours of labor. According to the certified service department at the local Jeep dealer and online forums, this has become a very common problem for 2000-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee limiteds with duel zone ventilation systems.
No heat due to blend door failure and defective hvac system.
