Brake Disc problems of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

: the contact stated the plastic blades on the fan fractured and detached from the engine puncturing the radiator. There is a NHTSA campaign id # 06v199000 pertaining to the engine and engine cooling system; fan. The vehicle was not included in the recall due to the VIN. There was also an unnecessary delayed in acceleration. There was a grinding noise and smoking coming from the brakes. The dealership determined the brakes were rubbing against the discs causing friction which caused the brakes to overheat. The caliper was also leaking. The brake calipers, brake shoes and pads were replaced.

Need full brake replacement( calipers, rotors, pads) due to pulsing in the front end when brakes are applied moderately. Many people are experiencing the same problems. Have the same problem with my Chrysler concorde and have complained to Chrysler many times to no avail. They simply use low quality parts. Will never buy Chrysler again.

Vibration during braking resulted in replacement of front disc brake rotors at 30,000 miles. Problem is recurring at 45,000 miles. Note that in this model year daimler Chrysler revised warranty to exclude rotors from standard 3yr/30k coverage.

While my daughter was driving our 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee on slippery roads she slid into an intersection and was hit by another vehicle. My daughter claimed she was going slowly and when the brakes were applied felt a shudder and the car did not stop. To check her story we took the car to a brake shop. They told us the brakes were defective. They could tell by the very uneven wear. 75% warn on 1 side of both front brakes. 25% wear on the other side .

Car vibrates when brakes applied at highway speeds, is also causing uneven feathering/wear on front tires. I contacted murphy motor service dept and was advised that Chrysler knows the caliper warp in this model of cherokee and both the calipers and rotors will need to be replaced. There is no recall on this as yet but parts are backed ordered country wide 6000 parts in all. This should be a recall and Chrysler needs to get this part availabe now to avoid further damage or accidents due to this failure. I have been reading other complaints on this model of Jeep and since 1995 they have had repeated brake problems which go unaddressed and costing owners a lot of money to fix or get to the problems. Chrysler obviously is not responding delibertly. Someone needs to investigate the brake problems with Jeep Grand Cherokee over the past 7 years and find out why they can not be fixed once and for all. The consumer is not being informed of the potential brake problems and thus can not make and informed decision when purchasing a new vehicle . In the end money out of consumers pocekts and no protection from fraud by the manufacturer. Dt.

When applying brakes on a down hill position it causes vehicle to severely vibrate uncontrollable. Dealer contacted. Feel free to provide any further information.

- the contact received a safety recall notice about the fan in her 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee in November and called the dealer and they have not yet completed the repairs. The vehicle has been placed on a waiting list. Also, there was a brake failure while driving over 40 mph. The steering wheel would vibrate so much that it felt as if it were about to come off. This incident happened over 300 times. The brakes were faulty since she bought the vehicle, but the dealer always told her that nothing was wrong, even though there was a safety bulletin in place. After the warranty expired the failure was diagnosed and the cost of the repair was $1500. The contact was charged for several front end alignments that never seem to alleviate the failure. Also, there was recurring problem with the motor of the rear windows. The contact had one motor replaced at a cost of $300 and will need to replace the second motor.

The vehicle has been in the shop, 3 times for grinning-growling noises from the front-end, rough ride and brake problems. The tires was balanced twice and one brake calipers was replaced on 14 oct. 2002. (several prior visits before for brake related noises and vibration in front floor-pan of vehicle) I was informed that Jeep was coming out with a new power steering gear box to resolve the problems with the existing gear box. Todate, this problem with the grinning-growling-howling noises still exist. No resolution with servicing dealer. Dt.

I am concerned that Jeep has under engineered the brake system for this model of car. I have three colleagues in my office who have the same model and all of them have had to have rotors re-surfaced or replaced more than once. They warp repeatedly. I have read consumer groups forums on the internet and it is happening a lot. This is my first time to have all four rotors resurfaced as they were all warped. I have spoken to a Jeep service person and they know of the problem. However, Jeep washes its hands of the problem after one year or 12, 000 miles. This is a design fault of a vital safety component and needs to be addressed.
