general problems of the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee - part 1

The contact stated that the failure had occurred several times, including three times while driving to the dealer. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the contact was informed that the recall repair might not be able to be performed because of the age of the vehicle. In addition, the contact was informed that if the repair was approved by the manufacturer, the labor fee might be at the owner's expense. The contact was informed that the manufacturer needed to approve the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer made the manufacturer aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 184,111.

Every single code is displayed when using a odb2 scan tool. I have many electrical issues that go away and come back. Sluggish performance. Random components inside the Jeep will fail at random. I’m thinking the ecu is faulty. Somedays it will run fine with all the codes still present.

I was at the light a and the truck caught on fired.

Vehicle slips into neutral when driving. Only ways you fix is to put in park turn off the car and turn it back on.

Entering my exit I noticed my 1month old was no longer sound asleep but screaming I turned around noticing she was being approached by smoke arising from the back of the vehicle. As panic set in I immediately tried to come to stop moving off the exit. At the same time clear fluid gushed out of the hood and smoke immediately entered the front of the vehicle making it difficult to come to a stop see or breath. I went blank out of fear or pure confusion as I reached for my infant in the back as quickly as I could at that point she was. No longer crying. I shot out of the vehicle as fast as possible and stayed in a safety spot attempting to shield her from the sun as I watched the Jeep ignite and continue to smoke itself out witnesses gathered around one allowing me to sit in her vehicle with my baby until help arrived. No warning signs once so ever no indication of an over heating vehicle drove perfectly and not frequently it may be inspected at the towing it was taken to as for the safety of my newborn and myself we both could’ve tragically ended up gone because I was not and would not have thought twice about leaving my daughter in that vehicle. She just got into this world to be taken that fast it wasnt an option. I’ve been very uneasy since the incident with absolutely anything that functions or is electronic. Continues replay in my head over and over again in detail and nothing new pops up truly a very traumatic experience and an unexpected loss. Appointments I can’t make it to have had to cancel I do not have family here especially not close by to help me this accident was by far caused by the vehicle because it definitely look like he had a mind of its own suddenly.

All safety recalls and recalls have not been done.

Won't speed up and when is does it gets jammed and it shakes and when I break its shakes even when I turn. I just bought it and they are telling me that it's either the motor messed up or the computer. They told me that it'll cost me 3,000 I don't have that. I saved up for a head to by it. And a month after I got it it's messing up. But when I first bought it. I took it to a shop and it threw no codes nothing was wrong with it. It took all of a month to break down on me. And the battery won't stay charged they put in a new battery when I first got it. Then I had to warranty another because that one stopped working. I just need help to figure out what is going on.

1. Engine over heating problems numerous times and coolant leak. Even after replacement of radiator and hoses. 2. Went to pick up Jeep from mechanic due to oil leak, when they brought it around, I noticed pink fluid dripping. Had transmission serviced in March/April 2020 due to a leak. , flushed system, new filters and fluid. Last few months vehicle says "transmission over temp" a few times. Replaced transmission pan, due to a leak, new fluid added, in September 2022. Vehicle indicated "transmission over temp" a few weeks later. Didn't drive it a few days, haven't seen the warning sign yet. 3. Numerous oil leaks. Serpitean belt replaced along with other repairs. 4. When I bought vehicle, it had no heat and coolant was leaking in on passenger side floor. 5. Jeep shifts to 3rd gear and won't shift down or back into drive until I turn off vehicle and back on. Very dangerous I was a busy road, us 41 heading north, and had to pull over.

My car just stop one day I put in new stuff and it just won't crank anymore it's like it don't wanna get gas the system and computer in car don't work.

The fire department extinguished the fire. A fire report was filed. No injury was reported. The vehicle was totaled and was not towed away . The dealer was not called. Tl the contact owns a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While the vehicle was idling, the vehicle lunged forward or hesitated. The vehicle also drove very roughly. Occasionally, the vehicle decelerated. The contact also stated that as the engine warmed up, the harness plugs produced sparks, and the traction control indicator and lightning bolt icon illuminated. The vehicle was taken to phillips Chrysler Dodge (3401 us-441, fruitland park, FL 34731, (352) 702-9103) to be diagnosed, but the failure could not be replicated. The contact diagnosed the failure and stated that the wiring harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was 115,000.

Bought used 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee from kendall cjd in miami on June 10th. On sept 28th I stopped at a gas station to get a drink and Jeep would not restart. I had it towed to a shop and was told I dropped a valve seat and blew a hole in the #4 piston. . . . What. I don't understand how this can happen. This Jeep only had 72,000 miles and I paid a premium because of that.

Jeep was parked and when returned to start , a lot of clanking in engine. I had the car towed and was told a valve seat dropped and the motor has to be replaced.

September/October of 2017 as I was driving home on the parkway my vehicle was not picking up speed. No power so had to pull over to the side of road and the drove to pep boys to have the mechanics take a look at it. Was in the shop for about a week.

Been waiting sometime for the dealer to get his part for my recall in addition to this the transmission seems to be smoking and the motor is running erratic I believe this is a big piece of junk and government should buy back. The Jeep was a biggest lemon ever. Was driving it from yogurtland was driving it from yogurtland only a few miles away on the way back it was smoking like a freight train the tranny was slipping in the motor is running erratic.

Vehicle was acting like there was a flat tire. The engine stopped and would not start. Towed to a mechanic. Diagnosed with compression coming back to intake. Recommended replacing the engine. Said could be dropped valve seat.

I purchased my 05 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3. 7l v6 with 79k miles on it June 21, 2016. In July of 2017, it started to bog down with a constant shutter when starting up and accelerating, the cel was also on. I took it in to have the cel checked out and it was showing 22 codes saying that the O2 sensor had a high voltage circuit. Upon examinng and testing the O2 sensor there was nothing found to be wrong. A couple weeks later the cel came on again, but this time it showed the same O2 sensor was running lean and rich at the same time. I replaced the sensor at that time. Now it is showing another code p0430 and the timing chain for the electronic shift transmission is jumping. I was informed this happens to these transmissions all the time and there is no repair for it. All I can do is drive it until it goes and buy a new transmission. This is not fair.

Vehicle completely shuts off while driving, with 4 attempts by the dealership service, vehicle continues to shut off while driving.

While I was driving on a main road, my car completely shut down. My steering wheel was locked, gas and brake petal were not working, basically my car was going on its own. Worst part was that it was going on a slant while other cars driving 45/50 miles per hour heading towards me. I could not stop my car, nor drive my car, nor try and steer myself to a safe location. My car just kept going. Something needs to be done. I have almost lost my life 2 times already. I do not feel safe driving my vehicle. Everytime I go to Chrysler. . . They do not know what to do or what is going on. When will this be fixed and how?.

Vehicle will not shift into correct gear when accelerating from a dead stop. Tops out at 3,000 rpms at 60mph. This is an intermittent problem. But will at least happen 2 times a day. When it happens you have to pull over and shut off the engine off and restart. This most likely will fix the problem. This is very dangerous when in traffic. This typically happens when you stop at a traffic light and start to take off. I had the censers changed in the transmission but didn't fix the problem. The vehicle has less than 100,000 miles on it. It is getting worse every day know.

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Consumer writes in regards to parts not available to complete recall. The consumer stated the engine was replaced at a cost of $6,000.

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while in park, the contact noticed a burning odor coming from the engine compartment. Upon inspection, the contact noticed that there was engine oil all over the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 75,000. The VIN was unavailable. Oo.

I had my vehicle valet parked with a single key in the ignition. Upon receiving my car I got into the drive seat and proceeded to push my seat forward since I had a passenger behind me and was providing extra leg room. We proceeded to leave the parking area of the hotel and at a speed of about 15 mph I turn to adjust and item on the rear floor when my knee hit the key and the entire car was switched off. I had no steering since it was in locked position and the brakes was difficult to stop. The engine was off. I am just glad I was not on the freeway at 65 mph. Why is it taking Chrysler (fiat) one year to get a fix for this recall?.

I was on my way to work and in mid motion the cars engine power steering and brakes shut off. Luckily I was going slow enough that I was able to stop my car and restart it without any accidents. But I'm terrified the next time will I won't be so lucky.

I was driving down a local freeway. Had just merged on and began to accelerate. Once reaching 65 mph the vehicle felt liken it slammed on the brakes while my foot was on the accelerator. Only lasted for a second then returned to normal. 1/3 mile later is happened again. It has been going on for about a week now. Have come to realize that it is most likely a torque converter or transmission. There is recalls on the vehicle for ignition also. Which Chrysler has yet to resolve. Have they really fixed the transmission issue on this vehicle? or not? this vehicle apparently has caused many people problems and I myself have had two of these exact Jeeps. Both have been complete catastrophes. This problem is very scary and very unsafe for any driver. I have no money to fix the problem nor will the dealer or Chrysler help with the issue. I hope you can somehow help me. I'm begging you. Please do something about this. So everyone can have a safe experience on the roadways.

My 200 Jeep Grand Cherokee is affected by the manufacturer recall number: p41. While driving this past weekend with my wife and two small children. The ignition switch changed positions causing the engine to shut off with steering and braking greatly reduced. Thankfully I was not on the highway traveling at high speeds. This occurred in a residential neighborhood while driving 25mph. Thankfully no other vehicle or pedestrian was in our path. This was extremely scary and could have been extremely dangerous and deadly. I am completely unsatisfied with chryslers responsiveness to this issue. Our Jeep is my wife's primary vehicle and drives my children around daily. I feel this vehicle is unfit and unsafe to drive. Chrysler promised a solution by the end of the first fiscal quarter which is months past. When will a solution be available? I fell Chrysler is responsible to provide my family with a safe vehicle, is a rental or loaner vehicle an option until a solution is provided? please help. . .

Recall sent in October 2014 and as of today February 12,2015 the replacement part has still not been sent out to the dealer and there is no future date even discussed. If this is a danger and my research shows that in fact if the car ignition goes off, it can be very dangerous, then this delay is not acceptable.

Car wont start on first attempt. Key gets stuck between on and start vehicle loses power.

Recall p 51 - faulty ignition switch. . . Reported to owners, September 2014. . . Jeep has not provided a fix and do not have any idea when it will be available. . . I called Jeep the customer service number on the recall notice and the voice system puts you on hold forever (I finally hung up after 1 hour). . . I was north bound on 95 and the key to the vehicle was tapped and the vehicle was turned off. I was traveling at 70 mph and lost all control of the vehicle. I was able to pull to the side of the highway and start the vehicle. This has happened twice, and I fear for my life when I am behind the wheel. I have received a recall notice and was told the part was not available. I was told I would be contacted when the part was available. This recall notice was issued several months ago.

Driving on interstate at 70mph, vehicle ignition switch switched off causing complete loss of engine power and control of steering.

We received a recall notice and yet there is no fix for this recall yet. My husband's car has shut off on him about 5+ times. Each time he could have been involved in an accident but thankful he was safe. We don't have money to purchase another car at this time and yet I fear for my husband's safety. When will Chrysler group llc rectify this situation????.
