My Jeep jumps to third gear randomly, and it ends up jittering and shaking. My car got stuck so many times and ended up being stalled on a busy highway and almost got into an accident. I was once parked and had shifted to drive but instead the Jeep suddenly jumped to 3rd and my car started to go backwards and ended up hitting another car behind me. I had to pay the guy $500 and also got all the fluids and oils changed in hopes of getting this fixed, but to no avail. Yesterday, I spent $450 on these fluid and oil changes only to have the problem continue. Thousands of people are having the same issues and Jeep has no answers. You guys need to do a total vehicle recall since Jeep has no answers. Many people can die from this defect. I have a video to prove the car jumping to third and all the issues I just described.

Driving at 45 miles getting ready to enter highway and vehicle stalls luckily I was not on highway and still had shoulder to place car in park and restart. #2 on three occasion came out of work twice and out restaurant once and car did not start had to have towed. #3 driving 3/14/15 car stalls while driving at 35mph decline to 30mph almost rear ended by inches. After 13v175000 recall - 2005 Jeep gc still slips into neutral while running. Also, sometimes when moving from drive to reverse, it "stalls" in neutral and won't move into reverse. So far, this has only happened when idling at stop lights and in parking garages. Putting the car in park, shutting it off, and turning it back on reset things - but I'm worried that this will happen while driving. Took it to the dealership - they can't find anything wrong with it.
While driving on the freeway, the vehicle suddenly shifted itself into 3rd gear. Paddle shifting was inoperable and vehicle will up or down shift. Error codes given are p0700, and p0406. Problem seemed to resolve after restarting vehicle, but then shifts again after a couple of minutes. Now vehicle stays in 3rd gear permanently. Fluid levels ok, guessing it is electrical/computer related issue based on internet research. Taking to dealer soon to have final drive controller new software installed based on recall #n23. Hoping it is related to that issue.

My 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee started acting up about a year after I purchased it and has progressively gotten worse and worse. It has problems shifting and identifying what gear it is in on a daily basis, for example when I put it in drive from park prnd will all be illuminated like it doesn't know what gear it is in and it will make a loud thud sound. Then when you drive it won't shift from first gear and will rev up or it will get stuck in 3rd gear and won't down shift. Sometimes it will be driving normal and when I stop at a stop sign and then go to pull out into traffic it will stall right in the middle of traffic and I can't get it to snap out of it! it will also decide that it doesn't know what gear it is in while I am driving on the expressway and will start to rev up and freeze on me. This is very unsettling and dangerous and could defiantly cause a serious accident. From what I have read in other reviews many people have this same problem with their 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee so it doesn't seem like just a coincidence to me and something should be done. I have taken it to different mechanics and no one can give me an answer as to whats wrong or how to fix it.
My 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee has been stalling when at slow speeds. When I come to the end of my driveway, when I stop at a red light, in parking lots and slowing down on the highways the truck begins slowing down and shuts down completely. When I put it in park and restart it has been starting back up. I researched on the internet and saw there were recalls for Jeeps stalling, however when I called the dealership, bradshaw Jeep in oakville CT and I was told that my Jeep was not included in the recall and I would need to pay for anything they would need to work on in the truck if Grand Cherokees were recalled for stalling and I'm now calling to say mine is stalling, it is odd to me that they respond my Jeep is not part of the same problem/recall. It's doing the same thing. In the past week alone my truck has stalled three times, Monday while I was coming towards a traffic light slowing down to turn, last night pulling into my driveway and this morning stopping at a main intersection during rush hour traffic, the truck behind me almost drove into me, we were lucky it went to the side of the road. We are afraid to drive the Jeep at this point.
I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the car started to stall sporadically. At first it just started when I stopped at the lamp posts or stop signs, after it started to stall sporadically anytime. I looked up on the internet and found that Jeep already recalled several Grand Cherokees because of the front control module issue. I called Jeep line and they told me that I should take it to the service as it could be a recall issue. I took my Jeep to the service (john hoffer, topeka, KS) on 2/22/2010 when they changed some pump and they said it is fixed; it was not and the car died on me 3 times, I took back the car to the service and they told called me that I have a front control module issue and we need to change it. I called Jeep right away gave them my VIN and they told me that yes it was a recall issue about this module, but they are sorry my vehicle is not in the recalled ones and I have to pay the 1200 usd to change the module. My questions: who is responsible this safety issue as the vehicle could stop in the middle of the highway? if Jeep recalled several thousands of vehicles about the same issue how could they say that it I not their problem?.
My 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee keeps stalling while driving! the dealerships do not seem to know how to fix it. It has happened 5 times in the past 6 months. There is no steering when this happens and cars behind me had to slam on brakes to avoid hitting me! if you search the Jeep blogs, you will see this is happening to everyone! please help. This is not safe and is putting my life and my child's life in danger.

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee stalled at stop sign.
My Jeep Grand Cherokee stalls. No rhyme no reason to it. Usually low speed but not exclusive. It has the 4. 7 liter engine, this is dangerous as there is no warning. Dealer has no solution to this as no codes are set.
Vehicle stalls, steering locks while moving at high speed due to apparent software malfunction.

I saw the news this morning that Chrysler Jeep has admitted to a defect where the Jeep cherokees (2005) turns off unexpectedly and there are issues with the airbag. My Jeep has turned off/stalled soon after I have started driving it on a number of occasions. It sort of stalls with no power going to the engine and then a few seconds later kicks in and moves. This usually happens right after I pull out of a parking space or pull away from the curb to start driving in a lane of traffic. I have brought the car in and discussed the problem a couple times and been told there is no problem. As a separate or related issue, during one of my first services at a Jeep dealership when I left the dealership warning lights turned on -- I went back to have the issue addressed and was finally told on the fourth visit that there was a faulty software upgrade and not to worry unless a light went on and stayed on (I didn't have time to pursue the issue and I got no where with the dealership). More recently it has been the airbag light that goes on and off (if is now off). Finally, I went to the Chrysler website this morning and entered my VIN and was told there was no recall or notices. I hope that the NHTSA requires Chrysler to address this issue and/or it is addressed through a class action.
2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4. 7 limited. Purchased car . . . 2nd owner. . . With 21k on the odometer. Car constantly stalled. . . I had one spell where just about everytime I stopped the car stalled. How dangerous and crazy is this? I brought the car under warranty and Jeep kept trying to fix it. 2 weeks later issue would be back. After 5 dealer visits now the car has only stalled twice in the last 3k miles. Still its ridiculous. Daimler chrylser needs to step up and figure this out now b4 more people get hurt.
Our 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee has started cutting out or stalling. Engine just stops. My son was almost in a major collision when he couldn't get the car out of the intersection. Thank god there was no accident. Maybe if more people complained - I hate to see lives lost- what will it take for a recall- Jeep repair states resetting the drive train should help. . Does it????.
