1 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2011

In cold weather (anything below approximately 30f) all instrument panel indicator lights light up, the speedometer and tachometer needles drop to zero, as do the fuel and engine temperature gauges. The reverse assist indicator lights in the tailgate also light up. There is a clicking sound in the dashboard. The engine continues to run, but the abs service required instrument panel indicator light does stay lit up. This is an everyday occurrence in cold weather, and starts happening 10-12 minutes after starting the engine. The vehicle needs to be brought to a full stop and the engine turned off and then on again before it stops happening. Until stopping and restarting, it just keeps on occurring. A quick search of the internet reveals that this is a common problem with various year models of the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Chrysler dealership simply pleads ignorance after charging me several hundred dollars to 'fix' a loose connection under the driver's seat. An electrical problem of this nature poses a definite electrical fire hazard. Do we need to wait for that before taking action or can we be proactive?.

2 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2010

The contact owns a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the instrument panel light would fail sporadically with the intermittent failure of the instrument panel gauges. In addition, the air conditioner would intermittently activate as the failure occurred and the headlights would illuminate sporadically. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer several times but they were unable to determine the cause of failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 64,000 and the current mileage was 67,000. The VIN was not available.

3 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2010

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6) while driving my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee to work Saturday March 6 I notice that the lights on the instrument panel would blink every once in the while, I was driving on the garden state parkway in new jersey @65 miles hour,it was a very scare experience since I did not known if the engine would cut out and I would loose steering and breaking , and after all the Toyota problems I was almost in panic. Please let me known if there is any other complains like mine , since there is no recalls for this kind of a problem on your web site. [xxx].

4 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2009

The contact owns a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving at speeds of 60 mph, the headlights, brake lights and instrument panel lights began flickering abnormally. The dealer replaced the computer chip in an attempt to correct the failure yet the failure recurred. The vehicle had been to the dealer four times due to the intermittent failure yet the failure persisted. The failure mileage was 24,000 and the current mileage was 28,000.

5 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 09/06/2007

I bought the Jeep cherokee laredo in June 2005 and I have experienced several events with the instrument panel lighting system and gauges. The panel goes on and off until the engine and / or air conditions shut off. At one point the battery needed to be replaced. It has been very stressful having this condition occurring while driving or at a traffic light. Both dealer and Chrysler have improvised some repairs (6 times) that had not resolved the problem. I have decided to file legal action against the dealer and Chrysler after seeing in the NHTSA complaint database that this is a widespread and systemic problem with this model. If you want to join the effort to pursue actions using the "lemon" or any applicable law request a complaint research of this complaint record to have access to my phone and e-mail address. Having a joint effort will result in louder and more effective results to defend our rights as consumers.

6 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2006

: the contact stated while driving 35 mph, all the warning lights on the instrument panel illuminated intermittently. This was accompanied by all the gauges ceasing to function with a clicking noise coming from the dashboard panel. The vehicle was taken to a service dealer, where it was determined that moisture had collected in the junction box. The junction box was replaced, but the problems persisted.

7 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2006

: the contact stated while driving various speeds, the dashboard lights illuminated. The vehicle was driven to the dealer who replaced an o-ring.

8 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2006

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee - ~21,000 miles on vehicle. The instrument cluster/gauges will randomly all light up at once, then go off one at a time as I am driving on the road. The speedometer, at the same time will go to 0 then will seem to 'reboot' and go back to the correct speed. Again, all of this will happen randomly as I travel on the highways. I have taken this vehicle in 3 times to the westgate Chrysler Jeep dealership in raleigh, nc, and it has still not been corrected!! on the first trip, they just flashed the computer and sent me on my way. On the second trip there, the flashing happened to the technician so they replaced the junction box and said that should do it. . . But the problem still occurs. On the 3rd trip, they just hooked up the computer and said everything was fine. They called the Chrysler technical service and they told them to just wait until it happens again. . . Then bring it in?? it happens at random times, so it's difficult to 'just bring it in'. My Jeep has become unsafe to drive at this point! when the instrument cluster goes blank while I'm driving, it becomes a hazard to me and my family. I have contacted Chrysler, but I have only received an automated reply. They are not helping me with this serious issue. I've searched the internet with people who have had similar problems, and the solutions range from bad fuses, to corrosion in the connectors, relays, etc. I don't want to take this in to westgate as they appear useless and don't want to do any detective work. Please help me remedy this serious electrical issue.

9 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2006

: the contact stated the illumination of the instrument panel flickered and failed on three separate occasions. The service brake warning light illuminated each time. On two of those occasions, the brake pedal went mushy, but began operating after the brake pedal was pumped several times. The headlights failed to illuminate on the last occasion while traveling 45 mph. The vehicle was returned to the service dealer three different times for service, but the problems continued. The manufacturer sent an engineer to inspect the vehicle.
