2 Starter problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2016

Have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited. Issue is starter wiring harness is routed to close to the exhaust manifold. The wires have been melted by the heat. At times the Jeep will not start do to one of the wires condition from the heat. If you drive thru a large water puddle it pulls the wire off the starter & Jeep will not start. You can clearly see the connector is melted do to exhaust manifold heat. I have done a little research & many others have reported similar issues. The wiring damaged is not available for purchase. Also I am positive many people have been charged for a new starter when it is simply a wire connection issue. We have had this issue happen several times in the past 2 years. Only took it happening the second time & I figured out what the issue was. We to replaced the starter to find melted wiring loom going to starter. The issue still comes up from time to time. It is always the blade connection going to starter. Do to the melting of insulation on wires the connector has lost its ability to stay connected.

3 Starter problem

Failure Date: 03/31/2016

The gauges intermittently work, the radio works intermittently, the power windows don't work, the power door locks don't work, the power seat doesn't work, the power mirrors don't work and I've had the vehicle into my local Jeep dealership (willy racine's Jeep) repeatedly for electrical issues. They have replaced a variety of components including the ignition cylinder and switch. I continue to have problems. The battery and starter have also been replaced as the car was either having a hard time turning over, wouldn't turn over or even stalled while driving. Those issues still continue but very infrequently.

When attempting to start the vehicle, I heard one click and nothing happened. Lights and gauges worked, but nothing else. Jeep was jumped and then started right up. It went two months and is now doing the same again. Within a week, it has done it 3 times. Battery replaced and starter checks out fine. Also gauges dim and then come back on within seconds. The alarm goes off whenever it feels like it. Doors sometimes will not unlock with the fob which sets the alarm off. Nav system only works when it feels like it. Low setting on heater doesn't work. This lemon needs recalled!!!.

14 Starter problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2010

When I start and as I'm driving the truck the headlights are flickering along with the radio. The rpm and speedometer gauges are jumping up and down as I drive. I can hear a cluster of clicking noises coming from behind the radio, underneath the steering wheel in the wiring harness's and also from underneath the hood in the fuze box closet to the driver. The heated seats do not work along with the radio and gps, the turning signals and the fog lights do not work when this is going on. The dealer has no idea what's wrong with the car, I have already changed the battery, alternator, and starter. This seams to be an ongoing problem with this truck and its a serious safety hazard.

15 Starter problem

Failure Date: 07/24/2010

I have been having a problem with my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee since October of 2008. I have been at my wit's end because I have had the ecm replaced along with the battery and starter and the same intermittent starting continues. I have just discovered that I am not the only one. Please refer to the link below. I urge you to investigate this problem. I have had four Jeeps and this is the only one I have had a problem with and it seems that a large number of people have the same problem. This seems to be a problem that begs for an investigation. The date I have indicated is only the latest date of the incidents that have occurred since October 2008. I have had three incidents this week starting on July 18th and ending the 23rd. . 16 Starter problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2010

First the locks stopped working properly along with the key. Next the vehicle failed to start with only a click and then nothing occasionally it would start and then happen again at the next destination. Have taken it to the dealer on 10-12 occasions and have had a starter replaced. It happened the next day. I have seen online several hundred instances of the same thing some worse than others. This is a common problem that is rendering these vehicles useless owners are all told the same thing "never heard of it, yet if one searches, you will find several times its the same issue this is unsafe the vehicle shut off at 45 mph on time and it cannot be trusted and no one can seem to fix this common problem help.

Electrical system : starter failure replaced by dealer twice. First replaced on 05/20/08. This part failed on 02/16/09 and was replaced again with 34447 miles on the vehicle.

19 Starter problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2009

While driving the entire electrical system fails; lights start flashing, heat goes out, all system warning lights flash ( brakes, tire pressure, service 4 wheel drive system, check engine light comes on), I was able to contiue to drive the car but the lights flashed continously for approximtely 15 miles. This has happened mutiple times since I purchased the SUV June 2005. The dealership runs test by say they cannot find anything wrong. I have read on the internet that this is happening to many owners of the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the dealers and mechanics at the dealership cannot find anything wrong. This is a dangerous situation as many people also loose power and the SUV shift into low gear. I am afraid to drive my Jeep now because the check engine light keeps coming on and off. I am going back to the dealership again for some more stupid "I did not find anything wrong" statements. Originally I was told it was because I had a remote starter so I has it disconnected and the problem still exists.

20 Starter problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2008

The headlights and dashboard lights turn on and off while driving. On occasion when attempting to start the car the vehicle was totally dead. I had to replace the starter, only 29,000 miles on the car and was advised half of the starter was defective. The problem still continues. Can only assume it is a wiring, electrical problem. The vehicle is a hazard as you never know when this will happen causing myself and other drivers to use caution around the vehicle. This vehicle is definitely defective and should not have left the factory floor.

21 Starter problem

Failure Date: 04/24/2007

Since 4/24/07, my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee will intermittently fail to start. This typically has happened after driving it throughout the day without incident. (only once did it happen early in the morning after sitting all night. ) for the first two failures, jumping the battery was successful. The third incident, where the jump didn't work, led to the battery being replaced, although the old battery was never diagnosed as faulty. When the car failed to start with the new battery, the keys were re-coded by a Jeep dealer. It then failed to start with the newly coded keys. The ignition was eliminated as a problem, and the starter was replaced (with an after-market product). When the car failed to start again, the starter was replaced a second time (with a Chrysler part) and the ignition once again was diagnosed as working. After the next failure to start, a temperature sensor in the transmission was replaced. When the car again failed to start, I was told the newly replaced temperature sensor was faulty, it was being replaced, and the car would be ready the next day. Now, three days after being told the car would be ready,I'm told that no one knows what the problem is, although the diagnostics now indicate there is a problem. I was told by the current Jeep dealer servicing it that no one could be consulted at Chrysler until the problem could be replicated. (although it is a timely process, the problem has been replicated while in repair. ) it is now August 3, 2007, and for the last 102 days my Grand Cherokee has been in and out of repair for weeks at a time. When I have had access to it, I have not been able to drive it with any confidence. The dealer (not a Jeep dealer) where I purchased this car has been loaning me vehicles and they have been exceptional in their concern, despite anyone's ability to resolve this. Their daily attention my faulty vehicle is the only reason, as a first-time Jeep Grand Cherokee owner, that I have been able to stay on the road today.

22 Starter problem

Failure Date: 05/13/2006

: the contact stated while driving 35 mph through an intersection on normal road conditions, the engine stalled and could not be restarted. There were no warning lights prior to the incident. The vehicle was towed to the dealership, who diagnosed a fuel pump and fuel injection pump failure, both were replaced. After this incident, the vehicle presented transmission problems. The contact noticed a loss of power while driving 65 mph on a highway. Intermittently, the transmission made noise when shifted to second gear. The vehicle had been taken to the dealership 20 times, however no error codes identified the defect. In one of the incidents, the yellow malfunction light illuminated and the dealership identified the defect as the computer control module and the driver shaft, both were replaced, however the transmission problem persisted. The dealership determined the vehicle could not be repaired. The manufacturer was contacted who recommended to take the vehicle to a different dealership. The vehicle was not downshifting when going up hills and it would get stuck in second or third gear. The a/c and blower motor were inoperative, the dealer could not duplicate the consumers concern. The key became stuck in the ignition. All the dashboard lights were flashing, the cd player was broke. The brakes and rotors vibrated. The starter was replaced. The driveshaft and heater were replaced. The seats would not move back. The seat belts did not retract as they should. Updated 01/17/07. Updated.
