Takata recall. My Jeep randomly and frequently loses connection with the electronic shift module, when this happens it gets stuck in random gears and it will not move fast (safely) when I accelerate unless the car is restarted but then it'll happen again almost immediately after. This happens almost every time I stop, and sometimes happens while driving. This is a well known issue with the 05-10 model years that Jeep has swept under the rug and ignored for years. It has caused damage to my cars transmission and has made me feel unsafe driving my vehicle.
The Jeep will randomly not want to begin driving after putting into drive from a stationary position and then you will hear and feel a loud "thump" and the transmission gets stuck in 3rd gear. Most of the time I can turn the car off and back on to fix it but sometimes it doesnt work that easily. This happens at least 2-3 times per week.
Transmission stuck in 3rd gear while driving down the road.
When we put the car into reverse there was a rough jerk. We then put the car into drive but it was stuck in 3rd gear. The engine light is on. The car won't drive in anything but 3rd gear now and still jerks everytime we shift from park to reverse or drive.
Sometimes this vehicle acts as though it is stuck in its lowest gear. If I let the vehicle cool off for 3 or more hours it acts fine upon restart. I have found a transmission recall but don't know if it is the same problem.
2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee has major transmission issues. I searched online to see if other people have had the same issue and found many leads. I called the Chrysler recall number and they told me there was a recall in 2005 that has already been done on my vehicle in 2005. I took my car to the dealership for a diagnostic and they inquired me with a total of 1700. 00 to get this repaired. My car gets stuck in gears, won't accelerate correctly, gets stuck in neutral, revs up on it's own, and it doesn't shift correctly. This is a safety issue that many people have had. This problem occurs every time I drive it.
My 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee gets stuck in first gear when starting up from a stopped position. This is random, and happens only once every 15 to 20 stops. The only way I can get it to shift is to manually shift gears. I have had it into the dealer four times and they cannot fix the problem. I called Jeep customer service and they told me to go to another dealer. As the car is on extended warranty it costs me $100 each time I take it in.
