When driving at night or when lights must be used during day light hours the lights in the cluster panel go out and come back on or dim and the return to their original brightness. When the turn signal "stalk" is puled in or pushed in everything is ok for a few miles. Also, once in a while dashboard lights go off and on and chimes go off and on. This is occurring more frequently.
The ignition appeared to drop all gauges, blower, warning lights, etc. The entire dash went dead and all controls went dead as far as gauges, interior lights, fan motor, etc. , although the vehicle appeared to keep running. The problem seems to be getting worse and worse, and we have been waiting over a year for Jeep to get the parts to replace the switch. They refuse to replace the switch with a new switch matching the same part number, but also have not secured replacement switches. It appears that they can continue to source switches for cars in production they wish to sell, just not the ones affected by this recall. Perhaps if someone halted sales of new cars until the auto manufacturers provided replacement parts for those under recall, we would have better performance on recalls.
Going 40 mph the all lights on dashboard came on, the radio shut off, the abs brakes made a noise then everything on dashboard went out. Check engine light came on & the gas gage didn't work you couldn't tell how fast you were going ,the air conditioner quit & engine stopped, the vehicle was hard to steer & the brakes were manual & then engine started again. I turned the car off & turned it back on & the check engine light is on & the dashboard seems to work again. This has happened 2 times within 3 days. I am renting a vehicle cause I'm too afraid to drive the vehicle. There is a recall on this vehicle for the ignition switch with all the same vehicle loss of engine power, power steering & braking assist but it doesn't include the dashboard lights coming on & the dealers say it is not the same thing. The ignition switch recall came out in July 2014 & to date they have not provided any dealerships with the replacement parts. How can Jeep say it is not the same problem if they won't replace the recalled ignition switch to find out?.

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the odometer and fuel gauges failed and all the warning lights flashed intermittently. All interior and exterior lights flash as if the car has been restarted, all gauges zero out then return to normal. This has happened several times and can not be replicated during service. Car has shut down 2 times when this happens during regular driving speeds.
While driving in any condition all console lights flash, all gauges bottom out, headlights turn off, engine may sputter.
I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee (2006). Over the past 5 years, it has intermittently had problems. Sometimes while driving and after startup. These problems have always been loss of gauges, flashing lights in dash, what appears to be the traction control or brakes kicking in and the loss of power steering? when this first started happening I thought maybe the computer had been vibrated or jostled and had a glitch. Over time it would go away and 6 months or so later happen again! I have done everything in my power to stop this from happening, ie changing parts and trouble shooting the problems to no avail. I thought I had this narrowed down to a rusted connection from a ground wire connected to the block. . . . . Wrong again! this morning I had my 4 year old son in the Jeep and was taking a left at a busy intersection. I clearly had enough time to make the turn, but as I was turning it sounded like my anti lock brakes were kicking in in mid turn with a car coming right at us! I made the turn pulled over on the side of the road. All my gauges were dead, check engine light on and only the gear selector was visible. I have read on many Jeep related forums, that this is not only happening to my Jeep but many others! while reading I have noticed one thing. In many cases these problems were solved by replacing the ignition switch! after reading this I further researched the problem against recalls. I found that, according to the wall street journal, NY times, USA today and forbes, Chrysler is allegedly recalling these vehicles with faulty ignition switches. So I called my local dealer. They looked my Jeep up in their database and told me they're were no recalls on my vehicle and that they haven't recalled any vehicles for faulty ignition switches. I would appreciate it if the NHTSA could help with some of these problems and answer some of these question I and many others have.
Over the last 2 months, my 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee has completely shut off unexpectedly while driving. On 4 occasions. The first occasion was 9/30 (35,123 miles) I read the manual that indicated that the engine light could mean a variety of things and it suggested that if the light remained on after a couple of uses to call the dealer. The light went off after two cycles. It occurred 3 weeks later. I made an appointment at a Jeep dealer to correct the problem. The 3rd time it shut of was on the way to the dealer to have it checked. The vehicle was checked by a dealer who could not offer any explanation for the problem. The 4th occasion was on thanksgiving day. ) just prior to the car completely shutting down, I heard an unusual sound under the hood, all gauges failed, and I lost all power causing the car to stop. This was extremely dangerous with three of the occasions occurring at intersection as I was pulling out. Fortunately I was able to drift off the side of the road. After drifting off the road and shutting the car off and re-starting the car it would run normally although the engine light remained on. After taking it to the dealer I was told that the problem could not be replicated and nothing could be done. I explained that the problem was very dangerous the dealer said that perhaps if the service tech could drive the vehicle the problem could be diagnosed. The vehicle was left at the dealer for 4 days but the tech could not replicate the problem. The dealer offered no explanation for this extremely dangerous problem. I am now reluctant to drive the vehicle and my wife refuses to drive it for fear it will shut off and cause an accident. The problem again occurred on thanksgiving day. I immediately called the dealer again and explained that it had occurred again. I was told to they were very busy on Friday and that I should bring the vehicle in on Monday. Help I have a vehicle that I cannot safely drive.
