1 Starter problem

Failure Date: 05/11/2020

While driving all instrumentation, gauges, and warning lights flash on and off as if you are starting the vehicle up. During this electrical fit the heater fan stops, all bells and whistles also click and chime. First time it happened the vehicle stalled shortly after leaving driveway, I rolled to the curb, put it in park and shut off key then restarted. No issues for weeks until it happened again, this time under power at speed on highway lost all lights and windshield wipers, but vehicle continued to run. Sometimes the electrical fit self-corrects, other times you must shut off and restart to clear issue. Took it to dealership several times but on each occasion they couldn't duplicate issue. On one trip they blamed the ignition switch and replaced it as part of recall, but the issue continues to happen. Next visit they blamed the aftermarket remote starter which has been in the vehicle since bought. But to eliminate the possibility, I bypassed the remote starter for months and issue still happened. Happened again today so I searched on-line and found hundreds of similar issues reported. One report pointed me here to find many similar official reports so adding mine here. Dangerous when on highway as you never know when it might leave you without power. Frustrating to see so many others have same/similar issue and Jeep/Chrysler doing nothing about it.

2 Starter problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2015

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the key was difficult to turn over and the vehicle stalled several times. The contact stated that the various warning lamps flashed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who stated that the remote control starter was causing the failure and not the ignition switch. The vehicle was taken back a second time and they were not able to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system), but the dealer declined to confirm if the part was available to receive the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and they provided no remedy. The approximate failure mileage was 97,704.

3 Starter problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2015

Problem started around January 2015 on my 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo. Vehicle wouldn't start. My husband replaced the starter and problem persisted. Took vehicle into genesee auto electric on 1/23/2015 and they couldn't find a problem but charged me $250 for replacing battery posts. Then replaced the battery and it seemed to be fine for a little while. Around March 2015 had incident on 15 south where I was driving about 80 miles and the electrical started going crazy. All electrical on the dashboard started blinking and gauges were moving all over the place. It really scared me and so I pulled over to the side of the road and shut off Jeep. It took a while to restart it but after wiggling the battery a little it worked. I no longer feel safe driving my Jeep after fully realizing what the recall was about and doing some research on other people's experiences. Chrysler gave me a rental car for 3 days and has been unwilling to assist me any further. My Jeep is now sitting at the dealership.

4 Starter problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2015

Randomly, my car wouldn't start and I would think that the battery went dead. Then, another Jeep owner told me to put my foot on the brake and jiggle the shifter, and that it should work. This worked and after about a year of utilizing this work around, the car felt like it was slipping in between gears as I was driving. It felt like it was fishtailing, however I would see the auto-steering and abs lights pop up on the dashboard and it felt like the car was losing control. I took it to several mechanics whom would check the starter, realign, do more random testing and the problem persisted. After thousands of dollars and hours spent trying to identify the issue, I eventually received a recall notice in the mail telling me that there was indeed a major issue, however the part needed to correct it was unavailable and more needed to be manufactured. It also stated that I shouldn't drive the vehicle, but rent a car until the part was available and that the cost would be reimbursed eventually, once a part was available to repair the issue. I could not afford to rent a car for an unknown amount of time. . . And the part remained unavailable for the duration of the time that I owned it. I tool it to a mechanic at one point, explained to them about the recall which they were familiar with, and they replaced my starter, hoping that this would make the car "safer" until the part was available. It did help, however did not rectify the issue. By the time the part became available, I had already spent thousands trying to fix it and had traded it in to a dealership when I took on a lease. Now it doesn't seem to matter how much money I spent trying to fix the issue prior to the part being available as they are only willing to reimburse you for the specific recall itself. Maybe had I been calling them from a hospital room as a result of an accident, they would feel differently.

5 Starter problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2014

I received a recall sept 2014. It has been going on 7 months and I can not get any information on the status of my recall of p41. I called the Chrysler group recall center and that is a waste of time. The poorest service for a telephone answering service. I was on the phone 30 minutes and finally I hung up. I had to sit and listen to terrible noise (not music) and an announcement that all our agents are busy. I have worked all my life in business and I have never seen such poor service as I have received on this recall. My key switch is loose (because it has been hit so many times). At times I turn the key to start my car and it does not connect with the starter. I would like for someone who is responsible enough and cares about public service to call me and give me a date when my key switch will be replaced. I hope there is someone in the agency that has enough job interest to give this to a responsible employee.

8 Starter problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2014

Dashboard lights will randomly start to flash, air conditioning/heating system loses power, and speedometer, tachometer fluctuates erratically. This happens every so often, without warning. Thought it was the remote starter, but then it started happening without using the remote starter. It appears that many, many people have had this issue and no recalls have been issued. Dealer states they "think" it might be something to do with the ignition, key, ? what that know. They asked me specific questions related to "check engine light" and if the vehicle lost power. It does not lose power, but simply lights flash and it is scary. One time, the headlights flashed off and on until I pulled over and shut engine off and restarted. Doesn't always happen, but very scary when it does. Hoping this doesn't lead to a more dangerous issue. . . . Jeep needs to get on this issue as mine is, without a doubt, not an isolated incident!.

9 Starter problem

Failure Date: 11/06/2010

Had complained to dealership that all lights on the instrument panel will all come on and go off at the same time, and will happen several times in a row. They told me to try wiggling the key in the ignition when it happened again. On said date this happened again while I was driving, but this time my abs engaged, which stopped me in the middle of the road. Luckily, I was pulling up to a stop sign anyway. However, had this happened on the interstate, I would be devastated to know what could have happened. Also, it sounded as if my starter was trying to start again. I have done some research online and have found may people with the exact same issue who have tried many different things to fix the problem, but it seems as if no one has bee able to resolve the issue. The dealerships are even unable to fix the problem. How should someone proceed with an issue like this? it seems as if the government needs to step in and make Chrysler do a recall to fix the problem that so many of us are having.
