I have been dealing with this Jeep Grand Cherokee issue for years now. At one point there was a recall on the ignition switch and it was replaced at the local Chrysler dealer. The issue I have is identical to the one in the link attached. Up until a few weeks ago, I lived with it. Now the issue has turned dangerous because it also affects the ability to brake and turn. When the brakes seemed compromised, I took the Jeep in for repair but they were not able to duplicate the issue. I picked it up last week from the repair shop and today it was the power steering that went out along with the usual dash panel function going out. I realize that this is an older Jeep but it seems Chrysler should still be responsible for the vehicle safety. . Read more...
Vehicle will lose all inside power - dash lights & controls, a/c, etc, whether driving or just sitting idling. Upon restart, it may or may not happen again. Most times it will be ok but you never know when it will happen. If driving, the vehicle will need to stop. You lose all power when it happens. Has happened while driving at 55 mph on a major road, also happened while pulling into my employer's parking lot. The ignition switch was replaced after a recall 2 or 3 years ago at my local dealership. My hunch is that it is still an issue with the ignition switch. It is not detected when tested on a computer as I have brought it in to a local mechanic and they could not identify why the vehicle was doing this.
Headlights flicker and sometime go off completely while auto if being driven. This has been happening intermittently for several months. Have had the ignition switch recall performed and also have had the new ignition switch replaced twice but problem continues. Very dangerous situation to drive at night with unreliable lights.
While I was driving in my local suburban neighborhood, after driving about 6 miles, my vehicle shuttered and the dashboard lights flicked on and off a few times and started beeping. I got really scared so I pulled over, turned the car on and off again, and that is when I noticed the check engine light was now on. I immedietely took it to my trustworthy mehanic and that it when he told me the code reader was giving an error code of u1411 ignition switch. I did my own research and discovered that my vehicle fits the description (year/make/model) of a recall that was done on Jeeps 2006-2007 for faulty ignition switches.
While driving the dash board goes black and all gauges go to zero loses complete electrical power. This happens several times a week. Ignition switch has been changed already.
The car shut off lost all power control panel went out while driving at 45 miles per hour I quickly wiggled the key(ignition switch ) and the car began to run again.
1st recall recieved in 2014 about a moth after purchase said the ignition switch was faulty causing loss of power. To date have had the ignition replaced 2x. It stil looses power while in motion from 45mph to 70mph. Have had many repairs done claiming to fix the problem and nothing has worked. Dealership keeps saying they don't know what the problem is. When it loose all power I have approx. 20 seconds to make it to the shoulder. Have almost been hit several times on the freeway. This happens on a daily basis. My husband and I feel like it may be an electrical shortage somewhere that no one can seem to find.

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving at unknown speeds, the contact looked through the rearview mirror and noticed metal debris falling from underneath the vehicle. The contact pulled the vehicle off the roadway to inspect underneath it and noticed that the skid plate under the fuel tank was bent and rotting away. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was previously at the dealer (bob richards Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram 1666 jefferson davis hwy, graniteville, SC 29829 (855) 984-5458) for power steering replacement and transmission inspection. While the vehicle was on the lift for the transmission inspection, the dealer's mechanic noticed that the skid plate was damaged, which could have been a fire hazard with a fuel leak. The vehicle was taken back to bob richards Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram (1666 jefferson davis hwy, graniteville, SC 29829 (855) 984-5458) where it was diagnosed that the skid plate was gone and needed replacement. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for repairs due to the less expensive cost. The contact also stated that the vehicle was serviced per NHTSA campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system), but the failure continued and the ignition would inadvertently turn. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The contact believed that the failure was related to the wiring harness and not the ignition switch. When the vehicle was started and the engine was turned off, it restarted itself seconds later. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but did not offer any assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 152,000.
Continued stalling issues because of ignition switch recall. Had the recall service performed and it is still having stalling issues to the point that without they key in the ignition the vehicle will shift into gear. Last occurrence it wouldn't turn over and when it did a horrendous sound came from the engine. Needs new motor per mechanic.
I had my ignition switch replaced as a result of recall NHTSA campaign number: 14v438000 nearly a year ago. Now I am experiencing the same dash lights flashing and blower not working problem as others while driving. This problem is occurring more frequently. Today after parking, I depressed the key switch to turn the vehicle off (the newly designed switch must be pressed in for it to turn) and all the dash lights lit up and blower stopped. Releasing the switch returned the dash lights to normal. Depressing the key caused the lights to turn on again. I was able to repeat this several times before it stopped. Obviously the new key switch design is contributing to the dash light problem as well. I will be bringing the vehicle back to the dealer to have the key switch replaced again.

Parts distribution disconnect.
My ignition switched off disabling mostly everything on the vehicle. This was all while doing 75 mph on the interstate. I love Jeep but they to get this fixed.
A recall was issued nearly two years ago, for a faulty ignition switch on my 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee (srt8). Two years later, the fiat-Chrysler dealerships / service centers still say that they don't have parts available to make the repair. They claim the shortage is a nationwide issue.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The vehicle was previously taken to the dealer to be repaired for a recall on the ignition switch. The vehicle was taken to the dealer a second time where the contact was informed that the pc needed to replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 151,700.

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. In order to operate the vehicle, the contact had to apply excessive force to the ignition switch. The air bag and check engine warning indicators remained illuminated for five minutes. The dealer was notified of the failure and stated that the failure was inherent to the vehicle. Ignition switch is on recall but the part is rarely available to my dealership.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled with no warning more than once, the steering wheel was extremely tight and difficult to turn causing the contact to apply force to the steering wheel when the failure happened. The contact was able to coast the vehicle over to a parking lot and after several attempts the vehicle restarted. In addition, the vehicle stalled again before the contact entered a major highway. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who stated the ignition switch needed to be replaced. The contact was included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system) and the dealer stated the remedy did not prevent the failure meaning that the repair had to be completed again. The vehicle was still at the dealers while the contact was waiting for a permanent remedy for the condition and the approval from the manufacturer to repair the vehicle. The approximate failure mileage was not available. Dyd.
2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Consumer writes in regards to parts not available to repair ignition switch recall notice.
On multiple occasions, my vehicle has shown symptoms that appear to be related to the recent Chrysler ignition switch recall. One persisting problem is when I am driving with my headlights on, the interior lights (dashboard, radio, and climate control illumination) and all exterior lights (headlights, tail lights, and any other illuminated position lights) will rapidly flash on and off. Currently, my remedy for this problem, when it is happening, is to turn on the turning indicator which appears to return the lights to normal. More recently, while leaving my neighborhood, all of my dashboard warning lights illuminated and then the dashboard went dark all together. The remedy for this problem was to turn the car completely off and back on again. Last but not least, while traveling about 65 mph on a highway, my knee bumped the ignition key which switched the car to the accessory position, rendering the car powerless.

Vehicle has stalled while in drive at various speeds, in reverse or idling at a stop. This issue has been ongoing for over 2 years - has been brought to the dealership; was never told there was a recall on the ignition switch until I brought recently to midas for the above issues. They advised the engine shuts off due to the ignition switch being faulty. There has also been occasions that the abs seems to engage while in drive, typically occurs when turning. Unknown if this is associated with the faulty ignition switch. Was told by Chrysler that the recalled part would be available as of September 11, 2015 - it is still not available. This vehicle is unsafe to drive.
I received a recall notice for an ignition switch, last summer. I contacted fox negaunee, which is the only Jeep dealer in marquette. I was told that they did not have enough parts on hand to complete all the vehicles at the time, and they would get back to me and put me on a list. That was the last time I heard from them. It has been about 9 months. Recall number,p41/NHTSA 14v-438.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle stalled and the steering and brakes seized. The contact let the vehicle cruise, pushed the ignition key, and the vehicle restarted. The failure occurred several times almost daily. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact received a recall notification for NHTSA campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system: ignition switch), but the part was unavailable for the repair. The approximate failure mileage was 102,000.
While driving the ignition turns off, the interior instruments don't work, the brakes, make a noise, the steering get hard to turn. When I turn the key back to the right everything comes back on. Occurred at least 5 times over last few months. Have been reported to dealership twice, who says Dodge is dragging their feet with recall ignition switches. Have complained to Dodge who says I have to brig it to the dealership for diagnosis and I may have to pay for it. But I have a recall notice on the part.
The check engine (gas cap) warning light came on. Then I was backing out of our driveway, stopped to put garage door down and the vehicle quit (while in reverse and it was idling). The vehicle started right up when I put it in park but then quit again approximately 2 hours later when I was pulling into a parking space. We took it into a dealership in nampa and they stated that they fixed the problem with the check engine light but they did not know why the vehicle quit. They informed us that there was a recall on the ignition switch and that could be the problem but parts to fix it were not available. I called Chrysler and they told me parts may be available in September. I am afraid to drive the vehicle because we live in a remote mountain area and if the vehicle quits, I will not have power brakes or power steering when driving along the river on a very curvy, treacherous road. I cannot afford to leave the vehicle parked until parts are available at an apparently unknown date. Chrysler did suggest that I have the ignition replaced and they may or may not reimburse me. The dealership said the parts they currently have may or may not fix the problem. Can you please tell me what you would suggest? what happens if the vehicle quits and there is an accident? is Chrysler and/or the dealership liable for any injury and/or damages? thank you.
I was driving down the road and all of my dash lights came on, the heater and radio stopped working and my Jeep seemed to be stalling out. I was driving down a road where I was unable to pull over. The car behind me almost rear ended me because of this. This same problem has happened almost on a daily bases. I first thought it had something to do with the new key I had made but then I came to find out about the ignition switch recall. I can't believe that there still is not a part to fix this issue. I really can't believe that Jeep does not think that this is a safety issue. I am afraid to drive my Jeep very far at all. I have not been able to go on any long trips this summer in fact I had to stay home on my vacation as this is the only car I have. I can't afford to buy another car as I am still making payments on this one and no one will even think about buying it because of this issue. Is it going to take someone to die before anything is done about this. If I had known about this problem I would have never bought my Jeep.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the instrument panel illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician diagnosed that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 128,000. The VIN was unavailable.
I received a recall notice for ignition switch in December 2014. Went to my Chrysler dealer and they could not do the recall because no parts have come in. I called again in February 2015 still no parts what kind of recall is this are you waiting for an accident to occur first? the dealer is clare Dodge Chrysler Jeep of newport at 310 west main road, middletown ri telephone 401-846-2323. I would like this fixed this year. Thank you.
Upon preparing to stop and/or make a left hand turn (multiple incidents) vehicle's ignition shuts off. This is very dangerous as I was attempting a left turn on a busy industrial 4 lane road when the vehicle shut off mid-turn. I had two small children with me (1 and 4) and am extremely lucky I was not hit, from both sides. My knee sits approximately 8 inches from the ignition switch so I know it was not bumped.
This is not the first time this has happened since I purchased the Jeep in 2009 but it was the most significant one. All lights went off inside & out. There was some problem with the steering & the braking also. The motor did not die nor did the a/c or radio go off. When this happens all the warning lights flash a few times & for a few seconds I loose all the lights & experience the braking & steering problems. I did receive the recall notice for the ignition switch in September, 2014 stating that they were trying to get the parts for repair but I have not heard anything else from Chrysler. This is the only vehicle that I have and at this point I am afraid to drive any distance.
