46 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2014

My car was recalled in September 2014 by recall # p41/NHTSA 14v-438 to replace the ignition switch. Since then I have checked with safercar. Gov and my dealer repeatedly and am informed that no remedy is available. On 10-20-15 I got another recall for the same reason. Again, on safercar. Gov it says no remedy available. I want fca to fix my car. The ignition switch has failed off and on since mid 2014 when the car had about 85,000 miles. It still fails at least a couple of times a month. The recall notice said to drive the car only with the ignition key in the switch. I have removed all other keys and the switch still fails. When the switch fails the car keeps running but all interior electrical stuff stops and all the warning lights go on. This is very distracting and I have nearly lost control due to being startled and by trying to restore the car to proper operation. What's taking it so long for fca to recall my car and fix the problem?.

Failure Date: 09/03/2014

I have received notice of a recall, p41 / NHTSA 14v-438 dated 9/3/2014. I have received multiple notices that this ignition switch failure may result in loss of engine power, power steering, and braking assist increasing the risk of a crash and disabling one or more of the vehicles safety features including the frontal airbags. Each time I contact the dealer who states they don't have the parts to fix it yet. I believe that having to wait over a year for a new ignition switch to fix a safety issue is unreasonable and irresponsible. I received notice of recall for ignition switch over a year ago. I believe my car experienced this issue on numberous occassions, to which, prior to recall, Jeep "couldn't find problem" and would do nothing to reconcile my safety concerns. I could not apply lemon law. I contacted Jeep dealer, mystic, CT again after recall notice and they stated they didn't have parts and I would have to wait to be contacted by Jeep to repair. My Jeep was on highway multiple times when this happened; all of gauges would drop to off position, lights would flash on and off--somehow it would correct itself. Upon bringing it to dealership multiple times, it somehow stopped. Then incident approximately 2. 5 years ago-parking car in lot-everything "locked" including steering and braking-rolled until car stopped on its own-took key out of ignition-waited, restarted and car was fine. Don't have exact dates but mystic CT Jeep has record of all times car brought in.

62 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2013

I was driving on a busy road at night approaching a 4 way traffic light intersection. I was going approximately 35-40 mph and the road conditions were dry. Suddenly the electric, lights, gauges, steering and braking system in my Jeep began flickering and spasming like my Jeeps entire electric system was having seizures and was switching power on and off. To the cars ahead of me it looked like I was flashing my lights and the cars behind me as if I was turning my lights on and off rapidly. I pulled off the road into a parking lot and my Jeep continued to spasm and flicker on and off. I turned my vehicle off and let it sit in hopes that this issue was a one time electrical glitch and also because I couldn't safely drive it in this condition. I eventually started my vehicle again and began to drive thinking it was alright. Within minutes it began doing the same thing again. My vehicle has continued to randomly exhibit this behavior along with additionally all the gauge lights and sounds blinking and chiming for several minutes at a time. I never know when it is going to happen but when it does it is extremely dangerous and scary to be in the vehicle. I only have my ignition key on the key ring but that doesn't seem to make any difference. I have noticed that my ignition switch is extremely sensitive even when initially starting the vehicle.

Failure Date: 01/09/2012

Suddenly every dashboard warning light, a/c, headlights, etc. Turns on and off. Dealer recommended to remove everything from the key chain (?!) so they knew then that there is an issue with the ignition switch. It helped for a while until same thing happened February 2013, but this time engine stalled for a couple seconds. I took it to the dealer and called Chrysler. Chrysler said it's going to be my problem until NHTSA issues official recall. Dealer will charge me $360 for a new ignition switch tomorrow. All 2006 Jeep owners - if you have the same problem - don't just read this, file a complaint. Looks like this is the only way to wake up Chrysler.

67 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2012

Takata recall: I was in an accident with my 2006 Grand Cherokee. The accident was due to the ignition switch and the vehicle powering down while in drive, or in use. Injuries were suffered due to the airbag's none deployment. After taking the vehicle to the dealer and attempting to have two recalls replaced, I was told there presently was no available fix, or replacement for recall p41. The vehicle was serviced in 2015 at fitzpatrick's Chrysler Jeep (430 e main street, ansonia, CT 06401 (203) 734-3318) for recalls p41(ignition switch) & n23(powertrain transfer case electrical system). In January of 2012 with 37k on the vehicle there was the first of two accidents that relate to recall p41. This accident was due to unresponsive braking and steering, which was caused by the ignition switch moving from the on position to the off position while the vehicle was in drive, or in use. This accident happened when attempting to stop the vehicle (rte. 80 east haven, CT) I noticed the vehicle was unresponsive. I used both feet and hands to apply the breaks, while simultaneously wrapping both hands around the lower half of the steering wheel and pulling upward with my biceps to apply additional downward momentum to the break pedal, but still I could not stop the vehicle. Injuries were sustained and out pocket costs for this accident total over $7000 dollars. The second accident happened in 2016. Not realizing the vehicle was off while attempting to bring the vehicle to a full stop on the highway (rte. 15 no haven, CT. ), I had a collision. The force of the impact slammed my face into the steering wheel. I was dazed and confused, wondering, why hadn't the airbags deployed. This is the second incident I've had with this vehicle that was directly related to the ignition switch. And, in both accidents airbags were never deployed. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

68 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2011

Driving approx 50 mph, the Jeep quit, no warning signs, no power steering. Momentum got me off the road. Dealership wasn't able to fix the problem. This happened in March 2011. Sept 2011 I was passing a transit bus on the way to work and as I started to pull back into my own lane the Jeep quit again. No warnings, it just quit. I had to coast into the front yard of someones house because I had no steering. I sat for a few minutes, started it up and drove back home. The onboard diagnostics light, esp, bas and traction control lights were on. From that point the Jeep was running very badly. Dealer had my Jeep for 6 days and said it was a map sensor on the manifold. Got the Jeep back and backing out of my driveway in the middle of the road, it quit. A couple tries and it restarted. I'm very upset that this vehicle has put me in harms way on 3 separate occasions. I couldn't imagine driving on a twisting steep road and having it quit. I'm lucky I wasn't killed the day I was passing the bus. I'm not convinced the map sensor is the problem and I don't trust this vehicle. I drive a lot and transport my kids. We are all in danger in this vehicle. Mainly because, it gives you absolutely no warning that it's going to quit, it just shuts down as if I shut the key off. I have only the ignition key on the keyring so I know it has nothing to do with heavy keys pulling on the ignition switch. I am not the only complaint, they are all over the web, it is an issue and someone needs to address it. This vehicle has become dangerous.
