I received this recall this month however, this Jeep had three instances of losing engine power by last November 2014. When we called the hotline then, after going to a dealship three times, noone at Chrysler could or would help us so this vehicle was traded at a dealership at a substantially lower price . Quite honestly, we wanted to keep it and not take on car payments so I think Chrysler should pay us money. While I think vw lying about fuel and catalytic converters is wrong, I don't think that would have endangered my son's life like this did. Three times he lost power which was unacceptable and after the way this was handled, there will be no more Chrysler products for us.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle hesitated to shift gears and the engine rpms increased. The vehicle was restarted, but the failure persisted. The contact stated that there was a manufacturer¿s recall related to the failure but the part was not available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The recall number was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
It has been over a year since the recall for the ignition switch. . . Chrysler/fiat has yet to make the replacement part available to any of the 4-5 local dealers in northern CA that are within 50 miles of my home. They seem to be avoiding responsibility to correct the problem.
I was driving home from work at night and my vehicle died on the railroad tracks crossing just at that moment there was a train approaching and I freaked out but was able to get the vehicle restarted. There continued to be issues with the vehicle shutting down but as I need to go to work I have no choice but to keep driving it.
While in a line of cars approaching a stop sign I reached my turn at the sign. When I stopped the engine just died and all electrical components worked. After shifting into park and turning the key the engine started again. As with others I do not have anything attached to my key and also my knees are not able to hit the key. The road leading to the stop sign is somewhat rough and it is possible I hit the key with my hand.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system). The part was not available within a reasonable time frame to schedule the recall repair for a long time. In addition, the service engine indicator randomly illuminated. The dealer did not give a specific date for when the part would become available. The dealer stated that the contact would need to wait for a second letter. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was not available. Parts distribution disconnect.
While turning right into a parking lot at low speed, my knee brushed the key chain/key and ignition turned off while still in drive. Has happened once more in the last month in a similar circumstance, both luckily at low speed in empty parking lots. Had to shift to park and restart engine to regain power/control.
While driving dashboard lights will all come on similar to what happens when you start the car. Other electronic components (radio, odometer) stop but engine continues to run. Can steer and brake but difficult. No error messages received. This has continued to happen with no warning over the past 9 months. Multiple mechanics have looked at the car but cannot identify a problem. It seems that many people have complained about similar problems.
I have seen several reports of this so figured I would send a copy of this to you as well engine developed a strong miss and lack of power due to running on 7 cylinders. Dealer determined that there were burnt valves plus significant sludging of the oil passages. Dealer also suspected a crack in the head or block, allowing contamination of oil and coolant. Considering the vehicle has run fine and been maintained properly over the last 14 months there is a chance the cracking may have been a defect that took until now to cause enough damage to become a problem.
Started December 2013. When cold outside, Jeep won't downshift. Going about 40mph & Jeep stays at 3,000rpm's (or higher). When at stop sign/red light & I try to go it revs to 3000rpm's but only goes about 10mph. When it does finally reach 30mph-40mph it won't down shift. I have almost been rear ended several times. Taken to independent mechanic last year & put $700 into it. Was fine all spring & summer but yesterday was the first day the temps dropped into the 30's & it has started all over again. I cannot afford to go through this all winter again & cannot afford to keep dumping money into this Jeep.
Car has on 2 separate occasions jumped from drive into neutral. Contacted Chrysler as they have a recall on Jeep Grand Cherokees for this issue. However, they say that this vehicle wasn't included in recall as it was not manufactured at the same plant where the other vehicles were that mandated the recall.
While driving Jeep lost all power this has happened 4 times I took it back to dealer but they didn't find any thing this last time it was in a rear end accident so Chrysler took it back to investigate the problem the dealer has had for a total of over 9 weeks and still don't have a answer for it I don't know what to do know can you help.
My pregnant wife has had this issue before with the car and we took it to the dealership without anyone being able to fix it. While driving between 15-60 mph the car completely shuts down. No power steering, brakes, or electrical. You have to throw it in neutral and start it back up. This has to be an electrical issue as other quirky things have been happening as well such as the headlights will flicker on and off and the volume and stations selectors on the steerwheel often do not work properly. This is an issue that Jeep needs to identify and fix. Very scary to be going 50-60 mph and lose control of your car going down the highway. Over the past two days this has happened three times. I have done research online as well and there are plenty of other Jeep owners that have this same issue. Jeep needs to have a recall for this issue. I am shocked that this has not happened yet.
I was reversing and came to a complete stop to shift into drive, when I shifted into drive and let my foot off the brake, it killed the engine and completely shut it off. All electronics remained on. I then reapplied my foot on the brake and shifted into park and started the engine up again, shifted into drive and was able to drive. This continues to happen from time to time and not every time and no one can figure out the issue.
I stepped on the brake and put the car into reverse. I backed out of a parking space at a taco bell. I did not have my foot on the accelerator. The interlock required my foot to be on the brake. I move the vehicle with only the power supplied with the vehicle at idle (500 rpm). I brought my vehicle to a complete stop with increased brake pressure. I looked to the right where I intended to exit the parking lot. I moved the shift lever to drive. The car unexpectedly accelerated across the parking lot. I still had my foot on the brake. The car violently jumped from a standing start to an extimated15 mph, smashing into the back of another parked car, driving the front of that car over a curb, into a brick entry pillar. I applied maximum braking pressure after my car had moved about 10-15 feet or about halfway across the parking lot. The acceleration was so rapid there was insufficient time to react and stop in such a short distance. I am not senile. I am a skilled driver who has never had a reportable accident in 40 years of driving. I am a safe driver who has not had a traffic ticket in an estimated 38 years. I have taught driver's education. I am very knowledgable with the safe operation of this vehicle after having owned an earlier model. This was not an accident. It was a complete vehicle failure. My car has both the brake interlock and the wider seperation between the brake and accelerator petals . . . Previous Chrysler/Jeep fixes. I suspect this problem might be electrical. The battery had failed and had been replaced only minutes earlier. My foot never touched the accelerator, it remained on the brake throughout this entire incident. I am aware of both complaints of driver error and numerous, unexplained reports. This report is simple . . . Some kind of mechanical failure.
I bought the Jeep in Feb. 2013 and shortly thereafter, while driving on the interstate, the car just shut itself off and everything went dead. This has happened about 2 dozen times since, sometimes going fast and sometimes going slow or pulling into an intersection. There doesn't seem to be a factor that causes it to happen and the mechanic cannot find anything wrong but it is very dangerous.
I purchased vehicle 2 weeks ago, November 115, 2012. Over a period of several days, all lights on . Instrument cluster light-up, gauges go crazy, loose power and ability to operate vehicle. Very dangerous situation since I was on highway at highway speeds. Also, headlights begin to flicker off-on at a high rate causing a dangerous situation. I have researched online and found numerous similar complaints for Jeep. I went to my local Jeep dealer today. . . No help. Called Jeep hotline, 800-992-1997, no help, claim they havent had a problem. This is a safety issue and Jeep should stand behind their product.
When driving my transmission would be stuck in a gear sometimes and other times it would shift to neutral while on city roads and highways. This would happen mostly when accelerating when the automatic transmission had to shift to the next gear. It wouldn't or would go to neutral so I had to shift the transmission back and forth from neutral to drive to catch a gear. I read about a recall back in 2013 but Chrysler said it did not apply to my vehicle so I paid to get the problem fixed. Since Chrysler is currently having recall problems I'm curious to find out if this was something that wasn't reported.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving approximately 35 mph, all of the warning lights on the instrument panel illuminated. The rpm reading decreased and the vehicle decelerated independently. The contact stopped the vehicle on the shoulder of the road and shut the engine off. After restarting the vehicle, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing but was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 67,000. The VIN was not available.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at 50 mph, the contact discovered that the engine rpms begin to increase and the transmission failed to shift into the next gear. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and restarted the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 130,000.
Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number:14v438000 (electrical). The contact stated while driving at 15 mph, the engine loss power as the steering seized without warning. However, the part was unavailable. The contact stated the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000. Jb.
My 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee lardeo has all the same issues as listed by every other Jeep owner. The engine randomly shuts off while driving down the road, the dash board and headlights flicker on and off constantly. Sometimes we start sometimes we dont. When pulling out into traffic , maybe it will go, maybe it wont. I have lost my brakes on several occasions as well. Now the Jeep sits in my driveway as it wont start at all, and of coarse nobody can tell me what is wrong with it as usual ! nothing like paying for a dead horse ! I have contacted the Chrysler corporation only to be told these are not "safety" issues. Good lord what does it take to get a decent vehicle that is safe and reliable ? I guess that would be not buying anything Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep in the future is the route I will take ! I only hope when one of these ticking bombs fail, my family and friends arent on the road that day !.
Starting in Feb. 2012 the engine would quit running while driving. When the engine would quit we loose steering and braking. The vehicle starts right back up and is driveable. We would experience this problem once every 2-3 months. The frequency in which this is happening has increased with the latest incident occuring 3-18-15 while exiting the interstate and nearly avoiding a crash off the roadway. We received a recall notice from Jeep (p41) but everytime we call they tell us the parts are not available. I have tried several times to contact Jeep but am left on hold for over 40 minutes. Can you please help us with this problem.
I initially purchased this Jeep at 45,000 miles. It now has 98,000 miles. This issue has now happened at least 5 times in this time span. The first few times I thought it may be just a coincidence but now it is starting to scare me that there could be an issue. Because it can not be replicated at the mechanic,s no one can pinpoint what the problem could be. The Jeep will just die spontaneously. There is no warning that it is coming. Luckily I have always been going slow through a parking lot with no other cars in my way. I am able to control the car to a stop and then restart it. This past week I became more nervous however as it happened while I was making a left turn from a major street on to a residential street. I was able to control the car to the side of the residential road while turning however, if there had been cars on the steet I was making the left too or I had not given more time for the cars coming at me during the turn this could have equaled a major accident. I am seeing through my research that I am not the only one experiencing this.
Unintended engine acceleration / surge. On two separate occasions the 5. 7 liter hemi engine in a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee suddenly surged when stopped at traffic lights. Maximum brakes were applied and the transmission was placed in neutral to prevent the Jeep from going into traffic. After the transmission was placed in neutral the engine rpm went as high 4500 rpm (normal engine rpm at idle in gear is about 700 rpm). On both occasions the Jeep was brought to a Jeep dealership to diagnosis the problem. The maintenance technicians were unable to find any fault with the vehicle (no fault codes or any abnormal behavior). This behavior could cause a serious accident the results in serious injuries and or death to individuals involved.
Jeep Grand Cherokee randomly lost engine power, essentially shutting the car down. This happened at least ten times over the span of a few years. Each visit the the dealer to get service was worthless as they could not find anything wrong or a fix.
I have had issues with my vehicle shutting off since 2010. I googled issue and it seemed others had same issue and offered other suggestions other than ignition. I received a recall notice stating that ignition switch was defective and recalled back in latter part of 2014. I contacted mckinney texas dealership who said they did not have replacement part and was not aware of when they would receive them. I emailed Chrysler in November with issue, I received an email stating they would put me on a list to be contacted when part is available. I emailed them again in February with the reply from them of a simple we do not have an estimated time of arrival on parts. I did express that my vehicle does have the issue and I am concerned. I do not want to be invloved in an accident due to a faulty part and personally feel that if you are really concerned about my safety either fix my vehicle or give me a vehicle that is safe. This is why I am contacting you now because I sincerely believe something needs to be done. Thank you for your time.
On at least 5 separate occasions since about 2009, my 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee has suddenly and lost power and cut off while driving at approximately 20-40 miles per hour. There is no reason that I can confirm causes this and I'm not able to duplicate the defect. I've reported it to pearson (dealer) and they indicated they can't help with an issue that can't be demonstrated or duplicated. This is extremely dangerous to lose all power, even at lower speeds. This issue should be thoroughly investigated to find the root cause. I can confirm that it definitely occurs. In addition, it's reported that starting a Jeep Grand Cherokee may result in sudden, uncontrolled acceleration or movement forward, even when in park. Car pool auto wash pushes every Jeep product out of the wash tunnel by hand to avoid starting the vehicle for this reason they explained. While sudden acceleration has never occurred to me, there appears to be enough evidence this may warrant further investigation.
Drive-by-wire system on hemi powered 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee has hair trigger response, does not allow for engine breaking when the accelerator is released and continues to accelerate even after foot is lifted off the gas pedal.
Engine has cut off numerous times between 5-30 mph. I have to stop and restart Jeep, have almost been rear ended several times. Have taken into dealership and they can't duplicate the problem so they can't fix it.
2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Problems with vehicle shutting off while driving. Lots of consumers reporting this issue. Driving in city traffic at speed of 45 miles per hour, vehicle and all electrical components suddenly shut off. Lost steering momentarily. I shifted to neutral and restarted- but upon returning home and researching problem on internet, found numerous customer citing this problem. Luckily, no crash occurred although it was close. Had I been on the freeway, this could have been catastrophic!.
When goin over a curb or a bump on the back tires the car losses power even when you press on the gas for several seconds.
The first incident happened just weeks after I purchased my Grand Cherokee. I was on a two lane highway going 75 mph in the left lane. The highway did not have a shoulder to pull over on. There was a tractor trailer in front of me, behind me and to my right. My car suddenly started decreasing in speed rapidly, my steering wheel locked up and it was as if my car had been turned off. I had no where to go as it was sandwiched in between semis all going at a high rate of speed. I turned on my hazards until I was completely stopped in the middle of the highway. I put my car in park, put the key into the off position and restarted it. I drove straight to the tulsa,ok Jeep dealership. To say I was shaken up is an understatement. They ran tests on it. Came back to me and told me the car checked out perfectly fine and either my knee hit the ignition or my keys were too heavy. My keys only had my car key, house key and my key fob on it and I knew my knee had not hit the ignition. I was scared to drive my car from then on. The incidents continued to happen over and core again. Sometimes at a high rate of speed, but also lots of times at a slow rate of speed under 25mph or while going from a stop to start (like at a stop light or while trying to turn). I continued to take my car in to the Jeep dealership the entire time it was under warranty. I received the exact same answer every single time. They treated me like I was making the incidents up. The incidents started happening more frequently and after my second child was born we were finally in a position to purchase another vehicle. My Jeep has been sitting in my driveway for over a year. We are unable to sell it for anything close to what kbb says its worth. And we also feel like we can't sell it consciously knowing it could kill someone. These cars are a death trap and because of financial situations families are forced to keep.
Engine and electrical.
Purchased new Jeep Grand Cherokee in may 2006. The problem started almost immediately and continue. , dealership could not find or fix the problem. The vehicle lost engine power while driving, resulting in no steering or brakes. This happened every few days, without warning, most recently at speed of 50 mph, causing me to have to manually, with much difficulty, steered off road into field to avoid a collision with other vehicles. This was extremely dangerous, I could only imagine if it happened on an expressway during heavy traffic how many people would be killed. The local dealership always stated they could not duplicate problem, and asked me to keep driving until it happened again, then bring the car back in. This could not go on! someone or many people were going to be killed because of this dangerous vehicle, but I have to have something to drive. Please help.
