Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph without notice, the vehicle would fail to accelerate as if the brake pedal is being depressed. This happens while the accelerator is being depressed. The contact also stated that there was a grinding noise coming from the vehicle also. The vehicle was eventually able to accelerate. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the anti lock control unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired, however, the failure recurred. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical) however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 45,000. Ed.
I purchased this vehicle on December 14, 2011. About three weeks later in a parking lot, we noticed the vehicle would not accelerate even though the accelerator pedal was pushed virtually all the way down. A few days later the engine warning light came on. Then the lack of acceleration happened on the interstate. My mechanic cleared the engine warning light but it came back on a few days later. I did a lot of research and it appears this is a common problem on Jeep vehicles. The problem is a failure of the electronic shift module. It if very expensive to have replaced. My local dealership charged me $924 plus tax. As many comments as I have seen on this and the fact that lack of acceleration is a safety issue, Jeep should not hesitate in issuing a recall.
Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving approximately 55 mph the vehicle decelerated and lost power. The contact stated the vehicle would not accelerate further than 20 mph. The contact pulled over to the side of the roar and shut the vehicle off. The contact restarted the vehicle and was able to drive the vehicle. The failure occurred a second time. The manufacturer was contacted and a complaint was filed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostics. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 33,300. Ds.
Bought used 2007 Grand Cherokee from adams Jeep, aberdeen MD in Nov. 2009. Within first month, while traveling around 30 mph, car would not accelerate when pushing on gas pedal despite engine racing. Prnd lights all lit up. Took car back to dealer and bezel gear selector replaced after paying $100 deductible on extended warranty. Same problem occurred 5 months later. Dealer charged me for electronic control module updates. One month later, same problem occurred, dealer replaced bezel gear selector again. One month later, same exact problem occurred. This is 4th time taking car in for lack of acceleration while pushing on gas pedal. Dealer states unable to fix problem since they cannot reproduce it. This is a huge safety problem as I have almost been hit multiple times when my car fails to accelerate when pushing on gas pedal. Chrysler needs to recall the shifter module in these cars before someone gets killed.
