Tl the contact owns a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While approaching a stop, the vehicle inadvertently shifted into neutral. The failure occurred intermittently and without warning. The vehicle was taken to monroeville Chrysler Jeep 3(651 william penn hwy, monroeville, PA 15146, (412) 856-1422) where the transfer case was repaired twice and the motor as well. The contact stated that the failure recurred. The contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing the same failure as listed in NHTSA campaign number: 13v175000 (power train, electrical system). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 87,245.
The transfer case has not worked properly and the car lurches and stutters while driving. There was a recall involving the transfer case and the computer, but there has not been one for the transfer case itself, which I believe was compromised from due to the computer issue before it was fixed.
Transfer case, suspension and ignition switch seems to be causing major issues after 105,000 miles and the "warranty" just ended just before all these issues started happening. When tried to start once the engine shuttered then turned off. Started up after that, but then it has issues wanting to accelerate and can feel the Jeep struggling at times to switch gears or whatever the transfer case may assist in. Also have noticed the suspension has start to rock.
The transfer case on my vehicle (2007 Jeep srt) went out. I took to two repair shops and dealer and every place indicated that this has been a long standing issue with these vehicles. I then filed a complaint with Chrysler and the case manager indicated that my complaint would stay internal and could not advise me on where to file a complaint for a safety or mechanical defect. I then did some research and it appears it should go the NHTSA. With such a common defect and with such a large scale issue (dealership has part for sale for $4000-$6000 not including labor) I do feel this should be considered a recall.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving 40 mph, a warning message illuminated on the instrument panel indicating that the four wheel drive system needed to be serviced. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transfer case differential clutch failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 130,000.
Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked with the key in the on position, the vehicle shifted from the park position to the neutral position. The vehicle then rolled forward and crashed into an adjacent parked vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. There was no police report filed. The contact stated that the failure occurred twice. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The contact was informed the failure was caused by an electrical failure in the transfer case. The vehicle was not included in the NHTSA campaign number: 13v175000 (electrical system, power train). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000. Ah.
The transfer case is bad ,the car only have 30000 but the transfer case is bad and it shakes over sixty and once u brake the whole car shakes ,I took it to the dealer and they said its a transfer case bad and the 4wd is not working ,and the ignition switch keep killing the battery.
After application of safety recall n23/ NHTSA 13v-175. Reprogram final drive controller module. 2005 - 2010. (wk) Jeepâ® Grand Cherokee. 2006 - 2010. (xk) Jeep commander, the transfer case of our Grand Cherokee could not be shifted out of 4-high to 4-low. This was discovered while attempting to use the vehicle to launch a 7000 pound sail boat on a marina launch ramp about a week and a half after the n23 reprogram was made by an authorized dealer. This demonstrates the software is defective and potentially dangerous by creating an unexpected safety issue.
After having the n23 recall preformed, the vehicle transfer case refused to go into either neutral or 4 wheel low drive. Dealer reprogrammed the dtcm and tipm and corrected the problem. This was for the original owner. I purchased the vehicle in Feb 2014. After working correctly for several days, the problem reoccurred. It is not safe the have an off road vehicle that cannot be reliably be shifted into 4 wheel low range, which locks the transfer case and provides true 4 wheel drive. As a result, of this safety concern and fiat Chrysler's failure to provide a solution, I have installed a fdcm that has not had the n23 recall performed. This may also be unsafe, but can be mitigated by using the parking brake. Fiat Chrysler needs to provide a real fix to the original problem that does not cause other safety issues.
On two occasions the transfer case has shifted to neutral on it own. One time it left me in the middle of the road with traffic. Also, 4wd low rand of transfer case does not work. There was a recall done, known as the "n23 recall" first, it was done incorrectly resulting in no low range. Second, it was redone correctly and it worked as it should. Now a couple months later it is shifting to neutral on it's own and no 4low. It is a known problem among Jeep owners. The dealers only want to replace parts at customer's cost and very unsuccessfully.
Had my low mileage/ perfectly maintained Jeep in for service. They performed the n23 recall because of a faulty chip that causes the transfer case to go into neutral and roll away. A week or so after having this performed I went to lock my Jeep into 4wd low and my "service 4wd" message appears. Is reading the same code everyone else with this problem is having after having the n23 recall performed. 4wd low worked flawlessly when I used it the week before taking it into the dealer. Whats funny is the service writer said "there have been a few cases the 4wd low stops working, but those cars had high mileage" when I asked him what the recall was and if anything bad had come from it.
2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Consumer writes in regards to service 4 wheel" error code message appears when vehicle is put into neutral. The consumer stated he took the vehicle to the dealer, for repairs under recall 13v175000. After the recall was performed, he stated the following happened with the vehicle: when he attempted to put the vehicle in neutral, a message appeared that read service 4-wheel. He took the vehicle to a repair shop and was told the error code said the transfer case encoded motor was at fault. He had the repair done and had the transmission and transfer case serviced. The encoder motor had to be purchased from the Chrysler dealer. Two months later, he attempted to put the vehicle in neutral and the same message appeared. He took the vehicle back to the dealer and they performed the same recall repairs. On April 24, 2014, the message appeared again. On April 30, 2014 the vehicle would not start, so it had to be towed to the dealer. They replaced the starter solenoid and both front window motors. Also, the service 4 wheel had appeared again. On may 2, 21 ,and 27 2014, the same service message appeared, as well as June 1, 2014.
After application of safety recall n23/ NHTSA 13v-175. Reprogram final drive controller module. 2005 - 2010. (wk) Jeep® Grand Cherokee. 2006 - 2010. (xk) Jeep commander, the transfer case of our car could not be shifted out of 4-high to either neutral or 4-low. Consequently a major drive train component has been destroyed. This demonstrates the software is defective and potentially dangerous and may not correct the reason for the recall. Thousands of Jeep vehicles subjected to this recall have suffered the same loss of function. How does NHTSA, or we, know the safety problem is actually fixed? it is obvious the software used in this recall was not subjected to sufficient testing to validate it. I therefore fear my car is just as liable to have a safety defect now as it did before the recall. I will continue to return to the dealer for service until the issue is fixed costing them time and money as I will not be paying for any further service regarding this issue.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that upon acceleration, the gear independently shifted into neutral. The vehicle at first did not respond but rapidly accelerated within several seconds. The failure was recurring. The vehicle was previously taken to the dealer to have the transfer case updated however, the failure was not corrected. The manufacturer was contacted and advised the contact that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 13v175000 (electrical system, power train). The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 100,100. . . Updated 12-05-13.
Took my 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee to my local dealer for the n23 recall regarding the transfer case in December 2013. A week or two later, noticed a dash board error "service four wheel drive system" and my "four wheel drive low" will not work. Dealer says I need a new transfer case actuator for hundreds of dollars, but the part is on permanent back-order. . Read more...
