On 11-20-13, car died at a stop sign at northbound bradshaw at sheldon in sacramento county, CA. Car was towed to auto shop in loomis, CA. Since 11-20-13, this vehicle has died a total of 8 times, at various speeds from 0 mph to 65 mph. On two occasions, I was in the middle lane of west bound I-80 near rocklin, CA, going approximately 65 mph. Car has been in the shop at autonation Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram in roseville, CA on several occasions. The car was delivered to autonation on 9-17-14 (two days ago), and their shop will, once again, try to determine the cause of the problem.

On June 10 2013 we purchased a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee. 6 days after the 30 day warranty expired, was the beginning of a series of incidents that have continued until now 6/3/2014. About a week after purchasing vehicle the motor died in traffic. My wife drove to the dealer and told them what happened. They drove the vehicle but nothing happened and told her it was probably nothing and not to worry. But over time the problem has worsened to the point that it is not safe to drive. The ignition is on, everything is working, then the ignition kicks off, motor dies, and steering is lost and we have to roll to the curb and restart the engine. Drive a few blocks or maybe a mile or two then the ignition kicks off again. This has happened once on a freeway here in California, luckily close to an exit where we were able to roll off. Now the dealer wants to charge a very large sum to analyze and repair the problem and we feel they knew about this at the time of sale. I see on the net others have the same problem we have with their Jeeps cutting off.
The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start without any warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 70,000.
After starting the vehicle it was observed that some of the electrical system, including radio and turn signals were not functioning. Electrical eventually came back. This occurred several other times, generally after turning the vehicle off and then re-starting all of the electrical systems came back on. Approximately 1-2 weeks after the initial electrical issue the following occurred: while driving in a parking lot at approximately 20 miles per hour the engine suddenly cut out after a "clunk" type of sound. After trying several times to restart, the vehicle did start again and drove normally. Vehicle was taken to dealership where code p0688 asd was found. The dealership recommended replacing the asd relay switch. The dealership advised that this relay switch could be the cause of the vehicle dying while driving as well. Relay was not replaced as the dealership informed me the part of on national back order. The electrical cut out occurred again on 6/21/2013 but cleared up immediately upon a vehicle restart. On 6/23/2013 while driving on a highway at approximately 60 mph the engine cut out again. The electrical was also out, leaving me with a dead vehicle and no electronics to signal. After several attempts the vehicle was restarted. I believe that possibly the electronic fuel pump was cut out due to the electrical issue. Dealership informed me that this part is on national back order, which leads me to question whether there is a larger, unreported issue with this part. If there is not a demand for it, why is it on back order, and if there is a demand, perhaps there is an ongoing issue that Chrysler/Jeep is not reporting. Chrysler is claiming that this switch is not covered under warranty.

I have had my Jeep gc lockup. This happened 8 times since late oct. 2012. The conditions are as follows. The engine stops, I have no control, no brakes or steering. 2 times I was driving one of the two I ran into a post. This put a big dent and scratch on my car. The first time this happened I was in a parking lot. In order for me to get the car stated I had to force the key to move. I called Chrysler 3 times. They put me on the rush list. This was over a year or 2 ago. They won¿ even talk to me anymore. Once I was doing 70 mph on the expressway. The engine just stopped and I had no control other than braking, but there was no braking assist. I got a recall letter from Chrysler about 2 years ago. And still noting ¦ what is going on?.
My Jeep turned off while driving on the highway. I had to put the Jeep in neutral and restart it. This has happened about 9 or 10 times. It happens randomly and infrequently. Not sure what the problem is but it is definitely scary when it happens. Also the key fell out of the ignition once, the car remained running.
Vehicle would die unexpectedly and not restart until transmission was put in park position. Several incidents ie stopped at light, acceleration to turnpike, slow street driving this would disable steering and create difficult braking.
My 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited has lost power on three separate occasions, each time being about a week apart. The first time I was driving along the highway at approx. 70 mph and I noticed all of my controls had gone black, I had no odometer, no radio, no a/c, my car had completely lost power. I coasted to the shoulder and was able to put the car in park and restart it. The second time was pulling out of a store parking lot, crossing traffic at about 10-15 mph. Again, I lost power but was still able to come to a stop, put the car in park and restart it. After this, I brought it to the dealership but they could not replicate the problem and there were no error codes on my car. As I was leaving the dealership and stopped ata red light down the street, I again lost power. This time I was at a complete stop. I put the car in park and restarted and then brought it back to the dealership. Again, they did nothing. I have called Chrysler and was told that my car did not show up with any outstanding recalls, however I did see a recall on my model year for this exact problem. My car has about 22,000 miles on it and has run perfectly up until now.
Owner of 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee on a regular basis hear a click and the power shuts off. You find yourself with no power steering, no power brakes, and no lights. This also occurs sometimes when you go over a bump or if your knee touches the key ring. The ignition key and mechanisms was replaced in 2010, and this above problem has been occurring off and on since then. In the past two years the occurrence has increased. The technicians can find nothing wrong in the car. Chrysler will not admit that the ignition fob and housing is defective, or that their is any problem. This problem is potentially life threatening if it occurs when there is no place to pull over and if hit, air bags will not deploy when the engine is off.
While sitting at a stoplight, on two (2) occasions my 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4 suddenly accelerated on its own while my foot was on the brake and revved up (throttle surge), then the tach went back to normal, and the engine went back to idling. Took it to the dealer I bought it from, they checked the on-board computer and no incident showed; they told me they called Chrysler but no one has reported this before and no technical bulletin has been issued regarding throttle surge issues. Have only had the vehicle 11 months. Now at times, while stopped and idling, the engine will act like it's going to cut off as the idle drops for a few seconds. Dealer also did not find an issue in the computer with this problem when I took it in a second time.
Crank sensor failed in 2008 Jeep overland diesel, loss or power and inability to restart on highway, also I am stranded 1500 km s from home awaiting the replacement part.
Problem #1: 11/15/08, 1800-1900hr, driving 65mph interstate in maryland after heavy rain. No warning: headlights out, engine stopped, dashboard mostly dark. Radio stayed on. Hit 4-way flashers, drove to side of road. Engine restarted easily. Car had 2500 miles on odometer. Purchased new 8/25/08. Jeep dealer unable to find fault code or replicate problem. 2nd problem: horn only works with heavy pressure from fist. Dealer has replaced horn pad twice and switch once.
2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland edition purchased in sept of 07. Within the first month and 4 times since I have had a loss of power to the vehicle while driving. It has been to the dealer several times for "repair and correction, but the problem keeps happening. The dealer is now at a loss as to how to repair this issue. Their solution seems to be that I should pull off to the side of the road when I feel the power failing, shut off the car and then restart it to reset the computer. They have told me that the issue is because the accelerator and the computer stop communicating. This is not safe and it is not right. Thank you.
