There have been more recalls than I can count, but recently I was driving it and the alternator (which was recalled) when out in the middle of driving and I had immediately pull over and lost control of the car. I've had another recent recall not the shifter and my stereo randomly went black, allowing no control over the vehicle settings or a/c. This car is a lemon!.
My vehicle's alternator suddenly started making a high pitch whistling noise, the radio and other electronics were not working in the vehicle, so I stopped. A white smoke started to pour out of the front grill and the smoke smelled like plastic/wires burning. I opened the hood and noticed the smoke was coming from the area where the alternator was. After the smoke stopped, I attempted to turn the vehicle on and nothing would work. I had the vehicle towed to the dealership. The dealership stated my battery was burnt up, the alternator was dead and they had to replace the usable link because that also burnt up. They also said they placed a battery in the vehicle to figure out what was wrong and their battery burnt up as well. They said they have never seen anything like it before. The vehicle only has 64,000 miles on it.
Tl- the contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, the vehicle stopped and stalled as the abs light, check engine, and battery lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to dallas Dodge Chrysler Jeep ram 11550 lyndon b johnson fwy, dallas, TX 75238 where it was diagnosed that the alternator had failed, burning the wire that went to the battery, which also caused the battery to fail. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 89,000. Np.
Sudden failure of the alternator causing the vehicle to stall while driving. Very dangerous and luckily I was not on a highway.
Alternator seized on the car after only 33,000 approx. The vehicle is just outside of the 36 month warranty. Jeep will not fix and says it does not fall under recall p60/ NHTSA 14 -634 even though the issues described in the recall are exactly what happened to my vehicle. I called the Jeep dealership and fca and neither are willing to work with me or do anything to resolve the problem. I'm told per my VIN number that my vehicle does not have the faulty alternator yet it has the exact problems of the recalled one from the same year. Issue description- I was driving from nashville TN to naperville IL and approximately 3 hours from naperville I stopped for gas and a break and upon starting the car the battery light came on. I continued to drive to naperville IL and upon exiting the highway the car started losing power. It sounded like a vacuum cleaner and not like a normal engine. I keep driving and pulled into a parking lot. As I pulled in I lost all electrical components, including the brakes. The car would not start. Upon taking it to my mechanic, then to a Jeep dealership it was determined the alternator seized and damaged the battery and belt. They refuse to correct it and I'm now paying $680 for repairs.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving 5 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the alternator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 56,000.
Alternator suddenly went out causing the car to become to stop running in an intersection. Very dangerous.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving approximately 20 mph, the "battery voltage low" indicator illuminated. The vehicle was pulled into a parking lot and the driver noticed smoke from the hood. The driver opened the hood and noticed that the alternator was on fire. The driver extinguished the fire. A fire report was not filed and there were no injuries. The dealer and manufacturer stated that there was no recall. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.
On Feb 10th 2017 while driving to work the car lost its power in the middle of the highway, abs failed, power steering failed, and every indicator on the dash board lit up. When the car finally stopped, car shut down while it was in gear. After further inspection at the Jeep dealership, it was determined that alternator was at fault and caused the car to stall and electronics to fail. Costing $1,600 in repairs.
The alternator started smoking after driving it 1/4 mile and then stopping. Alternator was smoking while the vehicle was in motion. Alternator continued to smoke after the vehicle stopped. The alternator turned a cloudy black because of the smoke and the car suddenly did not work. Vehicle was towed (for free) to raf's auto repair in kapolei, hi and fixed. The mechanic said that the error code for the Jeep stated that the alternator suddenly failed for unknown reasons. Most likely a faulty alternator. The grand total to fix this issue was $863. I called Chrysler to see if my vehicle had a faulty alternator recall. It did not. So I could not get it fixed by Chrysler. I gather from the 10 recalls on my vehicles year make and model group, that this alternator was a factory default and I should not be paying for it. This issue should be taken into consideration by Chrysler company and I believe that Chrysler should pay for this repair bill.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving 65 mph, the low voltage, electronic stability control, and abs warning indicators illuminated. The contact also stated that the vehicle experienced a loss of power steering and a loss of power. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the alternator was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact referenced NHTSA campign number: 14v634000 (electrical system), but the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 53,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While the vehicle was parked, an unknown chime was heard and the battery warning light illuminated. The vehicle lost power, but was able to restart. The vehicle constantly lost all electrical function. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the alternator failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v634000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 21,000.
My Jeep was experiencing intermittent electrical issues similar to those many have already complained about. The dashboard lights would shut off or illuminate, etc. The one day it just would not start. We got it jumped and took it to an auto parts store where I was told that the alternator was not charging the battery at the appropriate voltage and to take it to the dealer. I took it to the dealer who inspected it and ended up fixing the alternator under an open recall. Less than 1 week later, the Jeep would not start again. After getting another jump start and taking it back to the dealer, I was told that nothing was wrong with it. After my insistence they kept it overnight and sure enough that next day the car would not start. They then told me it was not the battery or the alternator but replaced the battery anyway, charged me $212 as I am just over the warranty period and sent me on my way. 4 days later, my Jeep car would not start again. I was able to jump start the car, but it would die when I put it in drive. Roadside assistance tested it for me and again told me that the alternator is not charging the battery to the correct level. I then had to have it towed back to dealer. It's at the dealer now. For the last two days I was told that they don't know what is wrong with it, then they replaced the alternator again and it still had the same problem. They are now looking at the wiring and want to charge me for it and they claim it isn't related (although they don't even know if this is really the issue). It all seems very related to me. During the month of August, my Jeep has been at the dealer for 9 days so far with no resolution.
Info only brought vehicle in for oil change and safety recall p60/NHTSA 14v-634 was also done. Replacing alternator to prevent failure, loss of power, short . . . . Resulting in vehicle shutdown. Had to tow vehicle to dealer because what the recall was to prevent actually happened after the recall repair. Alternator burned up eventually causing loss of power to vehicle, fortunately vehicle was parked and could not be started without charging battery. Vehicle towed to dealer and they again replaced the alternator. My concern is Chrysler's fix does not fix the problem as it occurred after the recall repair was done. I will assume this was an isolated incident and the dealer accomplished the repair to my satisfaction. I do want you to have this information in a data base should more vehicles continue to fail in the same mode after the recall repair was made.
Drove one block from home and the battery voltage spiked to 17v. Warning sounds and messages posted on the odometer. Parking assist off; acc unavailable-service required; wipers activated even though turned off; transmission locked in d; radio screen blacked out/came back on; message read to stop, press the brake, turn engine off then place in park. Red battery icon, anti skid icon, engine icon lit on odometer plus warning sounds non stop. Took directly to the dealer where the tech tried to get a reading on all of the trouble icons. Nothing was posting on their equipment. It was decided the vehicle may need the alternator replaced. Was told to continue driving and if this happens again to turn the engine off and restart the vehicle and keep driving.
The entire stereo screen all of the sudden "blacked out" not allowing any controls to work. Every 20 seconds the blacked out screen goes blue with a message to "please insert update usb". The bill luke dealership states that this is not covered under the warranty and no recalls on this. However, states this problem is common requiring the entire head/stereo unit to be replaced. Recall #p6/NHTSA 14v-634 states that depending on the alternator failure mode and timing that the esc (electronic stability control) or ecm (electronic control module) can be disabled. Even though there are not other issues with this Jeep at this time, who is to say that this recall is not affecting the stereo/head unit? it is a possibility. I should not have to pay to replace a stereo/head unit in a new 2014 vehicle that stopped working by a defect that is no fault of mine.
I have been trying to get the p60 Jeep Grand Cherokee recall (alternator diode) repaired since early November 2014. Two different Jeep dealerships have both said there are no parts available to make the repairs and no estimate for when parts may become available. There is no waiting list. The dealerships advised to just try calling back every couple of months. The fca customer assistance helpline provided the same information and advice. The recall notifies the driver that "the driver will have limited or no detection of the alternator failing, which can result in vehicle shutdown while driving and/or an underhood electrical fire. " the fca helpline advised to not drive the vehicle if possible. How can you not drive your vehicle for over seven months? the dealerships advise it could be several additional months until parts are available. How is this an acceptable response to a clearly dangerous situation?.
I received a recall notice # p60/NHTSA 14v-634 regarding the alternator diode, which states that a failure could result in vehicle shutdown/and or underhood electrical fire, calls to car dealer & Chrysler group recall assistance center today, both state, parts not yet available, no information as to when parts will be available, but keep driving & paying for the car this is not an acceptable response, Chrysler needs to fix the problem or repurchase the vehicle.
There is a safety recall for a possible failing generator for my vehicle but I have not been included in the recall and am worried about my vehicle suddenly stalling and causing an accident. I have a 204 with a 3. 6 8 speed engine that was manufactured during the time period indicated the recall is # 14v634000.
Since purchasing this vehicle in April of 2013 there have been six safety related recalls on the vehicle. The first two were quickly fixed. Since then, and over the last year we had accumulated an additional four recalls. Each comes with a warning from Chrysler that this is an "important safety recall notice. " the recalls are as follows; sun visor wiring occupant restraint control module brake booster alternator we have made at least four trips into auto nation Chrysler Dodge Jeep in at 120 116th Ave ne bellevue, wa 98004 to try and get these items fixed. Each time we are told the parts are not available and they have no estimate as to when the parts may be available. They have been pretty dismissive and do not seem to give the impression that they understand this is their responsibility to correct.
Bought new in April 2013. Since then, Jeep has been in dealers service dept for many electrical problems, transmission problems, down loads to control modules and front and rear bumpers just falling off. Radio was replaced, wiring harness replaced, many control modulars replaced, generator and battery replaced and the dealer even added an extra negative wire to the Jeep to stop the exterior and interior lights from just turning off and on, altering the Jeeps design. My Jeep then began turning on and off certain controls, like the wipers would just come on and off, the radio would go up and down in sound then the whole screen would go black, turning off on its own, dealer had to replace the entire radio system. Recent repairs were the transmission, which have been an ongoing problem within month of purchase. The Jeep would not go higher the 2nd gear. Dealer had to remove certain codes, replace with new codes and reprogram the tcm control module. This has been done many times. Just last month, the front and rear bumpers just began to fall apart. Dealer had to send Jeep to a body shop for repairs. The Jeep is in mint condition and aways has. It's service record is proof of proper mainteance on schedule. On one occasion after the dealer attemptedto finx the lights from going out and had the Jeep for sevral weeks, the dealer told me they go the lights to at least not go out but it still has a slight flicker. When I told the dealership that's not fixed right, the dealer told me that they considered the repairs commercially acceptable. It's been almost a year since I hired an attorney to address this under the lemon law but Chrysler continues to drag this issue out without addressing the safety issues my family continues to endure on a daily basis . Asking the attorney to become more involved, I was told they have to do what the law allows.
