1 Front Seat Power Adjust problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/10/2020

Fca uconnect sending forced updates to certain vehicles with uconnect systems onboard (satellite signal sent directly to vehicle). A known issue by fca, is that the forced update fails during the update rendering certain features useless. In my encounter the system update failed and most electronic systems were not functional such as defroster, control of the power seats, the vehicles lighting systems among other systems. This is dangerous and fca is aware of this failure yet they have failed to notify consumers of such failure and how it could adversely effect their control and access to function of the motor vehicle while in operation.

Could have caused fatality if seat was completely engulfed.

6 Front Seat Power Adjust problem of the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/18/2014

(relating to the driver-side seat only) my daughter and I was waiting at a traffic stop, (I was driving) when the light turn green I pressed on the accelerator and my entire seat including myself swung back. Because of the backward momentum, it causes me to abruptly press further on the accelerator. I was able to regain control of the vehicle and pull on the side to inspect the seat. I found that the two front brackets under the seat had broken off. Since I had adjustable power seat, I lower the seat to align the broken brackets to wedge under the bar causing the seat to stabilize or at least hold in a semi-solid position. I called Chrysler and they said they could not do anything about it since the vehicle was out of warranty. I argued that this is an unusual incident where I have never heard that the driver-side seat brackets would break off and possibly cause an accident. Especially for a Jeep, this vehicle is meant to be driven on and off road. Again, they said that there was nothing that they could do. This is a design flaw and should be address before someone gets seriously injured.

While driving the front drivers power seat bracket broke causing the seat to wiggle, then release. Now it appears a new seat may be the recourse as this has been reported over and over again and there is no recall. As Jeep knows about this they should be made responsible to provide a replacement to make it safe.

10 Front Seat Power Adjust problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/20/2012

The driver's side power seat bracket had broken in two, tipping the seat to the right, making me over-steer very quickly to the right which I had to compensate for in order to avoid running off the road into the ditch. I have since read online that this is a common problem of metal fatigue from under strength rails.

11 Front Seat Power Adjust problem of the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

While driving, the drivers seat had something break underneath it causing the seat to become more of a rocking chair, wobbling back and forth and to the side. My 19 year old son was driving at the time, and thank goodness he was preparing to stop at a stop sign and he almost was thrown backwards. Now this vehicle is undriveable. Have called around to Jeep dealers and found out that it is the power seat adjuster which needs replacing. Mopar has discontinued this part and it is not available. I have seen on other complaints the same thing has happened to many others. We need some kind of satisfaction on this obviously unsafe part.

12 Front Seat Power Adjust problem of the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/19/2012

13 Front Seat Power Adjust problem of the 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/20/2011

The heater in the front driver seat started at first to heat up and nearly burn the legs of the driver on high, had to set the the control to low to keep from burning the legs of the driver. After coming home from work the power light showed that the seat was still on, yet the drivers heated seat does not work anymore. Smelled something burning prior to shutting the engine off after drive home. Since then the heated seat in the drivers side does not work anymore. All other controls for power seats adjustments work fine. I called Jeep dealer for repair, come to find over 100,000 vehicles have had this problem which required a recall on the heated seats (recall no. F17, and j14) id# 06v197000, and 09v117000. I have the same problem that requires repair but they will not fix the issue under recall.

14 Front Seat Power Adjust problem of the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

15 Front Seat Power Adjust problem of the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/12/2010

2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited 10 way power seat - twice failed. Once at about 75000 miles and again at 130000 miles. Driver's side seat frame broken on 2001 Grand Cherokee, causing sudden abrupt movement of the seat, and short term loss of vehicle control. Fortunately, was able to regain control of vehicle without accident. To date, I have had to perform the following repairs to this seat: 1) weld lower seat frame twice due to metal fatique failure. Poorly designed; too thin stock. 2) weld the seat back frame where it broke due to metal fatigue. Again, too thin material. 3) seat heater shorted out, caused small burn area on the lower cushion. I repaired same. 4) both the back and bottom seat cushions are made of expanded foam rubber which has deteriated and torn in the seat frame area. This poorly designed seat is a serious safety defect, and there should be a mandatory recall. I have hit several websites recently and found literally hundreds of complaints on this very same issue. Why has not the safety board required a recall? does someone have to die before action is taken?.

16 Front Seat Power Adjust problem of the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/20/2010

I own a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a drivers side power seat. It has approximately 105,000 miles on it. The front right seat bracket broke on 10/20/2010 causing the seat to rock while driving, accelerating or braking. The left side bracket is now also cracked but not broken all the way across yet. This is a very dangerous situation as it may both lead to an accident and cause additional injuries to the driver. I am now trying to find used parts for the replacement and have learned from one local used auto parts dealer (631-654-5172) that he didn't have any because this was a :"hot" item. My research on the internet has also found it to be a very common problem with Grand Cherokees. The seats are breaking with normal use. I have decided to complain to the NHTSA and my us senator in the interest of protecting others from a serious safety problem involving a large number of vehicles. . Read more...

17 Front Seat Power Adjust problem of the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

No event triggered my seat failure, the seat track (frame) broke and the seat is behaving like a rocking chair. It hurts my back to drive and is very unsafe. This is my driver's front seat that is broken. I did nothing to cause it to break. I cannot find another seat anywhere without having to order a new one through the dealer, which I've been quoted up to $1,500. This is outragsous, a seat breaking in normal driving conditions at 70,000 miles, and I'm the original owner and drive normally, and have had no accidents impacting my seat that broke abruptly. It's a power seat, laredo model, code fll5. This is a seriously defective and unsafe product, and I will never buy another Jeep again.

18 Front Seat Power Adjust problem of the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/15/2010

Left front frame bracket on driver-side power seat has broken or sheared. . .

19 Front Seat Power Adjust problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/03/2009

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo 6 point adjustable power driver's seat. The brackets on the left side of the power seat adjuster (the brackets that hold the top of the adjuster to the bottom) broke on July 3, 2009 under normal breaking at a traffic light. Basically the left side of the seat now just floats around. If the corresponding brackets on the right side go, the seat will be free of the vehicle and I'll be driving from the back. I was willing to write this off as a one off problem, but that's just not the case. This is such a common issue that I'm unable to find a replacement from a salvage yard. The dealer wants $800 to replace the assembly (the entire assembly must be replaced as it's not available in its individual components) which just is not possible at this point. This is a serious safety issue. If the seat were to completely break away at 75 mph (interstate speed where I am), imagine the catastrophic event that would occur. I've gotten a hold of a used 10 point adjustable driver's seat from a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee and am hoping I can make it work, but at this point, the issue is not resolved. If the one from the 2001 Jeep can't be made to work, I may be forced to convert it to a manual seat as the brackets for a manual seat are affordable new.

The mechanic who fixed the car said that there was a noticeable burn marks on the leather underside of the seat cushion. The replacement unit burnt again in 2008. 30 Front Seat Power Adjust problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/16/2006

After just less than 30k miles, both front seat elements started to get overly hot, then stopped working. Took into dealer, found short in bottom element. Vehicle was stilll under warranty, I had also bought an extended warranty. Everything for that eight way powered seat was covered but the heater element. Was told it would be an $800 per seat fix. I declined to have it fixed. Now I find out that there is a recall for this exact issue, but that it does not cover my VIN number according to both the dealer and daimlerchrysler. It just doesn't make any sense how they can get away with this after reading all the blogs from people with this same issue and the same response from Chrysler. Sure could use some help getting them to stand behind their product.

Problem with seat on the driver's side. While getting an I. D. From the rear seat, a weld, from a piece of flat stock metal, 1/8 inch by 1in. X1 in. , disconnected. This cause the seat to rock, back and fourth. The other three bar sections could also, detach because of this. I have an extended coverage but, I 'm told it's not covered. I would have to pay, over $900. 00 dollars to have this fix. They, the dealership, would need to replace the whole under section, in order to rememdy the problem. This this is not a normal thing, I feel that happens. I've had a number of cars etc. , never this problem. I'm told, it can't be rewelded back in place. And I can't drive the car as is. The whole seat could come flying through the front glass. Can you help me with this issue?.
