It was cold out and my sister was driving my car with the heated seats on when she started to smell fire as well as her back got really hot. She pulled over and leaned forward and discovered a flame/fire coming through the seat back. She burned my hand and had visible ash on it trying to put the fire out. There is now a hole in the seat back from where the fire burned through.

The vehicle is a leased 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee that was taken out of service due to two manufacturer safety recalls. The dealership retained possession of the vehicle for approximately eight (8) days to complete recall-related repairs. During this period, the vehicle was not safe to operate and no loaner vehicle or alternate transportation was provided. The dealership instructed us to obtain a rental vehicle, stating verbally that it would be covered. Relying on this instruction, we incurred rental and transportation expenses. After returning the rental, we were forced to rely on other private transportation, including uber, solely because the recalled vehicle remained unavailable. Despite the vehicle being disabled due to manufacturer safety recalls, the manufacturer has refused to fully reimburse these transportation costs. Throughout this period, we continued to pay our monthly lease payment in full and had no reasonable means of transportation. The vehicle has now been returned. This complaint is submitted to document the handling of safety recall repairs that resulted in extended loss of use, lack of alternate transportation, and out-of-pocket expenses borne by the consumer due to a manufacturer safety defect.

Active head restraint deployed on drivers side while auto was moving in parking lot. This unexpected event made the driver come to a sudden stop. There was no impacts of this vehicle into any object. No injury to the driver in the parking lot but is pssible injury to driver and other in the parking lot could have happened. After inspection it looks like a plastic bracket broke inside the active head rest.

Had the kids loaded up ready to leave the house. Opened up the drivers door and my youngest pressed her feet on the drivers seat while in her car seat and the back of the seat was lifting up. I then investigated it further only to realize it was missing bolts.

Active head restraint deployed unexpectedly while driving at very slow speed. In addition to the immediate shock, it hit the back of my head and neck very hard. Still experiencing neck pain.
While driving on I-95 on 11/14/25, the passenger headrest suddenly and unexpectedly exploded forward with great force while I was sitting in the seat. We were not in an accident or collision. The headrest is now push so far forward that it pushes my face down toward my chest. We cannot reset the head rest to its original position and there is some broken plastic inside the headrest mechanism. A warranty extension has been issued for this known problem with 2014-2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles. When I called my dealership, I was told that my vehicle model was not included in this warranty extension.

On November 6, 2025 at 11:59 am, the active head restraint on my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited deployed without impact as I adjusted the driver’s seat into an upright position. This was a spontaneous mechanical deployment inside the cabin of a stationary vehicle. The dealership confirmed this as a known failure involving the internal plastic retaining clip that holds the deployment pin. This defect was previously covered under a 10-year extended warranty that expired in November 2024. At the time of the incident, I was alone in the vehicle. I later sought medical evaluation for head, neck, shoulder, and lower back pain and was diagnosed with a cervical strain. Because this failure occurs without collision, it presents a serious risk of injury to drivers and passengers. I regularly spend time with elderly individuals in personal, non-commercial contexts and occasionally transport others in my personal vehicle. In such a population, an in-cabin mechanical deployment of this force could cause catastrophic injury. The manufacturer and warranty programs have declined to assist with repair due to expiration despite acknowledging this as a known defect. Estimated repair cost is approximately $1,000. I am submitting this report for documentation, safety tracking, and defect pattern analysis. Submitted [xxx] redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6) information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

While I was driving my both of my headrests popped open out of nowhere and I freaked out and pulled to the side of the road. Not sure how this happened but I didn't get in any accident thankfully. Not sure what caused it I didn't hit any bumps in the road or anything.

On October 20, 2025, at approximately 2:00 pm, while driving on the highway to pick up my children from school, the driver-side back cushion (airbag/cushion system) in my seat unexpectedly deployed or inflated with significant force, striking my back. The impact was strong enough to leave a visible mark, which I have documented with photographs. As a result, I experienced immediate back pain and was at serious risk of losing control of the vehicle due to the sudden and forceful nature of the incident. I immediately contacted my doctor’s office following the incident. My physician confirmed that the injury was consistent with trauma caused by the seat mechanism. I then contacted the dealership where I purchased the vehicle. I was instructed to drop off the vehicle and leave the keys in an envelope. On the morning of October 21, 2025, I received a text message from the dealership indicating an initial estimate of $117. 65. I called the dealership to request a written report of their findings and to inquire whether there were any recalls or service bulletins related to this issue. I was informed that no recalls or service bulletins existed and that I would be required to pay for further evaluation. The dealership declined to take responsibility for the issue and also stated they could not provide a written report. As of this date, the vehicle remains at the dealership with no resolution, updates, or further communication provided. This is a serious safety concern that requires immediate attention and proper documentation.

I have videos, but my cars electrical system keeps glitching, it will turn my heated seats on to the pint they burn me, it connects to my phone and will randomly call anyone in my contacts, it changes radio stations, messes with my automatic start, took my traction control off and does this on a regular basis. I had this system fixed in March of 2023 just after I bought the car but it’s already doing it again. It also will randomly just cut off when I’m driving and then will be fine very randomly. - I will have to send you the videos I took it says they are too large to upload here.
The adaptive headrest popped open without warning or accident. Wife was just trying to adjust headrest. Now can not pop back into place.
Was getting ready to go to town, opened back seat for daughter to get into vehicle, and all of a sudden the front seat headrest popped out. Was very scary. Thankfully no one was in the front seat when it happened. I could only imagine there would have been some pain/injury sustained if they were. There were no warnings. No other malfunctions. Headrest is not able to be "clicked" back into place as a bracket is broken inside. There has not been any investigation by manufacturer, police or insurance reps.
Driver's side head restraint exploded as I was pulling out of my driveway with no advance warning. Thankfully I was facing forward when it deployed, or it would have slammed into the back of my head. I found my extended warranty notice from fca regarding this issue. Contacted my dealership and scheduled an appointment for repair/replacement on 11/1.
The active head restraint deployed September 30, 2025 overnight while my Jeep was parked on my driveway. The restraint has not been repaired and is available for inspection. If this head restraint would have deployed while driving with my wife I believe it would have injured her. I believe there is a defective part in the head restraint. I brought it to the dealer where I purchased the Jeep. I was told there was and extended warranty but it ended sept. 25, 2024 so my active head restraint is not covered. I was never notified by fca or the dealer about this extended warranty. There was no warning that addressed this issue. I spoke with numerous customer service specialists about my situation and they said I would have to purchase a replacement head restraint.
We were driving this weekend and the headrest components failed and blew it apart. It shoved my husbands head forward really hard. We pulled over and tried to fix it but all the pieces are snapped inside of it. From our understanding that is a safety feature that is supposed to happen in a crash but we were not in a crash, just doing 55 mph down the road. It was not inspected by anyone yet but from reading online forums this seems to be a common occurrence.
The driver's side head rest popped out and hit me in the back of the head, luckily I was not driving at the time, was stopped at a flagger for road work. It hit so hard that I thought the person behind me rear ended me, however when I looked in mirror that vehicle was nowhere near me. I have not had it to a dealer, nor called them yet, was checking first for a recall that maybe I missed. No warning lights at all, no noise ahead of time.
Drivers seat headrest, popped apart while driving. Hit back of drivers head with loud sound, scaring driver and jerking neck, while driving. Checked for recall, none shown.
On 10 September 2025 I was driving home from work in heavy traffic. I was stopped at a red light when I heard a loud explosion and the headrest on the driver seat slammed into the back of my head hard. I thought I had been rear ended but there was no other car close to me. Luckily the vehicle was not in motion when this happened. When I was able to pull to a safe location I saw that the headrest was split wide open. Contacted dealership who said to contact Chrysler who was contacted but has never followed up with a call back.
The contact owns a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact received notifications of NHTSA campaign numbers: 25v472000 (seats) and 25v576000 (electrical system); however, parts for the recall repairs were not yet available. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal before the vehicle stalled. An unknown message about the hybrid mode and gasoline mode was displayed. The contact was able to coast to the side of the road. The vehicle was restarted, and the system reset independently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the battery pack control module (bpcm) had failed. The vehicle was not repaired due to the part not being available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that before the vehicle stalled, there had been issues with the electrical system. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 13,741.
Assessment of ongoing mechanical & safety issues – 2023 Jeep grand wagoneer to whom it may concern, I am providing a clear, factual assessment of the ongoing issues with my 2023 Jeep grand wagoneer, which I purchased for $108,000 and have owned for less than two years. During this time, I have experienced twelve separate mechanical and functional failures, several of which have rendered the vehicle undriveable for prolonged periods. Below is a summary of the major issues that continue to impact the reliability, safety, and usability of this vehicle. 1. Seat / massage mechanism defect (ongoing for months) a malfunction in the seat massage system has created a large, hard protrusion in the driver’s seat. This defect has resulted in significant back pain, requiring both urgent care and follow-up medical evaluation. I have now been diagnosed with sciatica, which my physician has indicated is likely related to prolonged pressure and improper spinal support caused by the seat malfunction. Two dealerships have confirmed the issue and ordered the replacement part months ago, yet the part delivery has been repeatedly delayed, most recently to January 6, 2026. This has affected my ability to safely and comfortably operate the vehicle, and has now escalated into a documented medical issue. 2. Suspension noise during auto-leveling the vehicle’s air suspension system produces extremely loud noises during auto-adjustments. This raises concerns regarding the safety and structural integrity of the suspension system. 3. Window hinge failure a window hinge has prematurely failed, requiring service intervention. This is not consistent with typical wear for a vehicle less than two years old. 4. Cruise control malfunction the cruise control system intermittently ceases functioning while driving. The only way to restore it is to turn the vehicle off and restart it, which presents a safety concern when traveling at highway speeds. This points to a possible electrical or.
Drivers head rest has a whiplash protection, the headrest exploded and there was no impact, accident, literally just pulling into the target parking lot. The front of the headrest hit the back of my head while I was driving which was unsafe and painful. The noise it made was also extremely loud and occurred right in my ear which was frightening. I have not sought out for help on this issue or had it looked at, but online I was checking for a recall and I saw many others have had this happen. This is available for inspection though. There was no warning, lights, etc. But this happened completely unprovoked.
While driving down the highway the passenger seat headrest airbag deployed. Causing it to hit the back of my head with no warning. There were not any lights on or anything.
Last year while driving my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the headrest collision system went off for no reason, hitting me in the back of the head. Luckily I did not lose control of the vehicle and there was no collision or injury to myself. It was very scary, but I maintained control of the vehicle. I went to my local Jeep dealer pembroke pines Jeep auto nation at 13601pines blvd suite a pembroke pines, FL 33027. They told me it was a known issue and the service person made an appointment for me later that week , at which they replaced the headrest at no cost to me under a recall service bulletin issued by Jeep/stellantis. The same thing happened last week while driving, when the passenger side headrest activated for no reason, this time striking my wife in the head. I went back to the same dealership. They told me that this headrest is no longer covered under the warranty which has now expired in April of 2025. And would cost $800 to repair. They told me to call stellantis and see if they would cover the repair. I went home and called stellantis, whose customer service agent advised me that he was going to escalate my concern to his supervisor. I got a call today and they told me that my car is not covered by any warranty and that I would be responsible for the repair. My car VIN number does not fall under the recall which has expired. He also told me that stellantis is not responsible for the repair and he should ask the dealer to see if they would possibly split the cost of the repair with me. This could of been a very serious situation, had I lost control of the vehicle as a driver. I looked further online and in Jeep owners club forums and this seems to be a common problem with Jeeps and Dodge durangos, both owned by stellantis. This is a clear and dangerous safety issue!.
My active head rest internal plastic clips that hold the headrest from releasing randomly broke. The headrest propelled forward while driving almost causing an accident. I looked in the headrest and the retaining clips broke without a cause event. I've liked online at threads and this is incredibly common in the Grand Cherokee.
Driver side headrest deployed while driving almost causing an accident. Passenger headrest deployed 3-weeks later while parked with engine off. Both incidents left a metal pin behind.
The contact owns a 2022 Jeep grand wagoneer. The contact stated that after entering the vehicle, it was discovered that the front passenger's side seat lumbar section had erroneously bulged outward making the front passenger’s seat extremely uncomfortable. Additionally, the contact stated while seated, the front passenger's head did not comfortably reach the headrest. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was determined that the front passenger’s seat lumbar module was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred with the front driver's side seat several months later. The front driver's side seat was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted regarding the failures. The failure mileage was 51,000.

Passenger headrest popped out while driving downs the road. No accident bump or anything visible set it off. It punched out like an air bag.
Hello, I am reporting failure on the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee in which the drivers side headrest activated while the vehicle was not in operation and not involved in any accident. The active head restraint had activated while the vehicle was parked and in a non-running condition. No accident occurred during this time frame. The passenger side active headrest is still in the factory location and has not been activated. The drivers side head restraint has activated and can not be returned to original position. My current safety is at risk as the active head restraint is not functioning per original safety design intent. My head and neck are currently constrained in a position that causes discomfort while driving due to the location of the active head restraint. The manufacturer (authorized dealer) has been contacted and they responded with a response including that a recall was not issued for this failure type. A warranty period was extended to 10 years from manufacture date which my 2013 has eclipsed. No inspections have been completed to date. The parts have been untouched since the date of discovery. There were no signs of this issues prior to discovery. There are no service or warning lights currently illuminated on the dash or driver information screen. This is a safety related failure and needs to be repaired by the oem with no cost to the customer. A well documented and known issue exists and puts the owner/operator of the vehicle at a increased level of risk of injury by continuing to operate this vehicle in its current condition.
I am writing to report a malfunction in the active headrest deployment system in my vehicle. While driving, the passenger’s side headrest unexpectedly deployed without any indication of an impact or collision, posing a potential safety risk. My wife was in the seat at the time when the unit deployed jarring her head forward. Upon my investigation, it appears that the one of the failure points were internal plastic components. This malfunction caused the headrest to deploy randomly, despite there being no collision or triggering event. While the headrest is designed to deploy during a rear-end collision to prevent neck injuries, its unintended activation while driving can cause discomfort, distraction, or even injury, especially if it occurs suddenly. If this happened during an emergency maneuver or while driving at high speed, it could also interfere with my ability to maintain control of the vehicle. At this time, the vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. However, I believe a more thorough inspection of the headrest system, and perhaps the vehicle’s onboard diagnostics, could provide insight into the issue. There were no warning lamps, error messages, or other noticeable symptoms prior to the headrest deploying unexpectedly. This malfunction occurred without any prior indication of a problem. The deployment was a sudden event while driving, with no alerts or warnings beforehand.
Carbon fiber door panels completely fell off and driver rear end safety headrest went off while driving and gave me a minor blast on back off my head… I was not in a rear end collision!.
I own a 2022 Jeep grand wagoneer series iii (VIN [xxx] ) that has experienced repeated, unresolved electrical system failures which pose a direct risk to my safety and to the motoring public. The vehicle has already required fourteen warranty visits, with thirty-one days out of service and twenty repeat repairs. The problems include multiple no-crank/no-start events that have left me stranded, four premature battery failures, and ongoing electrical malfunctions affecting the instrument cluster, infotainment system, hvac, rear camera, mirrors, power running boards, and other electronic modules. These failures show that the electrical system is unstable and unpredictable. On [xxx], after the latest no-start incident, the dealership’s service manager told me directly that the issue was “more than just a bad battery. ” despite this acknowledgment, the only action taken was to replace the battery for the fourth time and declare the vehicle “repaired. ” Jeep’s customer care initially agreed that the history showed a deeper safety issue and promised to open a star engineering inspection, but that inspection has never been scheduled. Instead, I am being pressured to pick up and drive a vehicle that the dealership itself admitted has unresolved electrical problems. This is not just a matter of inconvenience — the risk of sudden electrical shutdowns while driving, or the loss of critical safety systems such as brakes, steering modules, and cameras, presents a clear hazard to my family and others on the road. A vehicle with this history should not be returned to service based only on repeated battery swaps while the underlying defect remains unidentified. I respectfully ask NHTSA to investigate the 2022 Jeep grand wagoneer series iii for systemic electrical failures and to ensure that stellantis does not force consumers to operate unsafe vehicles that continue to suffer from recurring electrical shutdowns. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The headrests activator failed on the driver’s seat and hit me in the back of the head. I was driving about 35mph. This vehicle has never been in an accident. A week later the same thing happened in the passenger seat to a passenger. Upon inspection the plastic failed that secures the latch-pin. We were never notified about this problem!.
Instrument panel switches to italian, forward collision off light gets stuck on and my seat moved abruptly while I was driving down the road. I have taken my Jeep into the dealership last year for this problem, it was “fixed” but has come back. Noticed the light stuck on last week. Today while I was driving the panel changed to italian and my seat moved abruptly. Many people on online forums express experiencing the same problem.
My passenger headrest is coming apart spontaneously. It has an active airbag system. Apparently my VIN is just outside a known recall range. I have called Jeep and the dealership, both stated I needed to report to NHTSA. The Jeep will be serviced tomorrow at the dealership for diagnosis and repairs.
While driving the passenger side active headrest made a popping sound and the headrest sprung forward.
