38 Seats problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/22/2025

While driving downtown atlanta, GA I heard a loud noise and then a hit in the back of my head. I was startled at first not knowing what had happened. I first thought maybe I way hit by another vehicle, or someone may have thrown something from the overpass. I got off the interstate and found the head rest had blown open. I have since learned that possibly the car maker is aware of the problem, I don't know if the car maker is fixing the problem. I see where this could have negative results to owners that already have neck and back problems, another big concern is having an accident. This occurred [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

39 Seats problem of the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/18/2025

The active headrest on the driver's seat deployed spontaneously on it's own during normal operation of my vehicle. The headrest is now unable to be reset as it appears some components of the active headrest mechanism were faulty. This put my safety at risk as a driver as the active headrest can not activate in the event that it needs to activate during a possible collision. The headrest and seat causes strain and injury to my neck while driving as it is now positioned forward from the seat. This also causes strain to the rest of my spine. This issue is not covered by the original dealer that sold me my vehicle. There are no warning lamps or messages that have appeared since this problem first occurred.

40 Seats problem of the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/11/2025

Headrest on driver's side just "exploded" open while we were just sitting in our driveway. It hit the back of my head and made a very loud sound. It could possibly have caused an accident if we were driving at the time. Local Jeep dealer says this is not covered by an ordered warranty extension although other similar older vehicles with this same issue are covered. Estimated cost of repair by the dealer over $800.

41 Seats problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/25/2025

The drivers headrest spontaneously exploded while we were driving and hit the driver in the back of the head and created a loud gunshot noise that startled us. When we stopped to inspect the headrest, the plastic clips that held it in place had snapped. We were not in a collision, nor did we hit any significant bumps. His head was not even touching the headrest when it occurred.

42 Seats problem of the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/01/2025

The 2018 Grand Cherokee has issues with mother board and electrical ghosts. 1st it was headlights and dome lights. They would flicker. I had to change the front lights 2x in a year. I thought this was odd. Never did this with any car before. Then I was driving home from work during rush hour and it started to rain. Started the wipers front and back. The back wiper started and went halfway and got stuck. What happen? the front wipers went on for several revolutions (say 10-20 ) then stopped. Started again. Then stopped again. The rain intensity grew. Now the -wipers would only work when turned in opposite direction (the manual 1 pass move). This happened as I was trying to get home and stuck bumper to bumper on [xxx] . On this dangerous highway in middle of now a torrential downpour the front wipers now decided it wouldn't work at all. I couldn't see anything and veered off to the shoulder thank god - waiting for rain to stop and then safely proceeded home. The next day the wipers worked. No check engine or anything. This goes on for a week or so with no issue. Then out of nowhere the driver seat decides it has a mind of its own and pushes me all the way to the steering column. It wouldn't return when pushing the back button. I had to drive like that for my trip and then it magically went back upon restart. I take to dealer. Pump motors bad on front and back. I say not sure your correct and explain. Motor changed on front. Not fixed. Ok we think its the bcm. Changed not fixed. Finally the pdm was changed and wow it worked. 2 weeks at dealer and this shows that this issue with the control module is certainly risking peoples safety. I hope Jeep does the right thing and prevents a serious catastrophic event. Read on the Jeep electric issues and my vehicle had a previous "corrected" recall for electrical cruise control. I dont think the fireware updates or software changes fixed all the bugs. Be safe out there Jeep information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (fo.

43 Seats problem of the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/11/2025

My driver side electrical seat will not recline to the forward position. . . . I reclined it back but now it won't recline forward. . . . Everything else works . . . . All other components of the seat except for the seat recliner back to the upward position. . . . My vehicle is only at 50, 000 miles. . .

44 Seats problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/06/2025

Seat active headrest deployed on its own. Plastics holding rod inside is broken and headrest cannot be snapped back into place. No warning or symptoms prior to failure. Headrest hit passengers head when it snapped and deployed.

45 Seats problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/05/2025

The headrest broke for no reason.

46 Seats problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/15/2024

The driver side head restraint mysteriously came apart. We discovered it one morning as we were getting into our car. We've read that there is an extended warranty applicable to the restraint. I've spoken with our local dealer who has begun the repair process (ordering parts, etc. ). However, I am concerned that the passenger side one will break as well, perhaps while my husband or guest is sitting in that seat. We purchased the Jeep on 01. 19. 15, so the extended 10 year warranty that the manufacturer offers will expire for us on 01. 18. 25, a short time from now. Most likely, the other head restraint will not fail in the next few weeks, so we would be left paying for the 2nd restraint failure ourselves. We definitely feel that a recall should be issued for this manufacturing issue.

47 Seats problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/09/2024

On 12/09/2024, I got into the vehicle, sat in the driver seat, turned the ignition on, and then immediately, the driver seat adaptive headrest popped open hitting the back of my head forcefully. I looked inside the headrest and it appears that there are two plastic pieces that cracked and broke apart.

48 Seats problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/05/2024

The driver side active head restraint unexpectedly deployed while driving the vehicle.

49 Seats problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/25/2024

Driver side head restraint exploded automatically.

50 Seats problem of the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/01/2024

Component failure: the control screen is going through a process of delamination. It creates "ghost touches" and behaves erratically. Safety at risk: in one instance the backup camera came on and stayed on randomly, while I was driving forward. Another time it activated the phone and began calling down the contact list. It called, then hung up. Dialed the next person and hung up. And continued through the contact list. People began "returning my call" and it got worse. I was driving on the interstate during heavy traffic and couldn't just pull over anywhere. It was distracting, alarming, and unnerving. It also randomly turns the radio on. It will randomly change heat/ac turning it on/off. Turns the heated/cooled seats on/off. All of the controls in that panel are subject to these ghost touches. It's distracting when driving but also could be dangerous. Dealership confirmed: the dealership has looked at it, analyzed it, and confirmed the issue. They see it frequently. Jeep customer service is kicks you to the dealer and the dealer kicks you to customer service. No resolution except to pay out of pocket for this manufacturing defect. Warnings or symptoms: there was no warning that the delamination was going to occur. And it first happened at the end of 2024. My car is a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

51 Seats problem of the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/01/2024

Passenger seat lumbar inflated out and won't go back down. It has also popped off the back plastic on the seat. This is a known issue as we have found multiple incidents online. It is causing discomfort and pain when sitting. No inspections yet as we fear it could cost thousands to fix with less than 50k miles on the vehicle.

52 Seats problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/30/2024

I have a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and the front seat headrest popped out while I was driving at 35 miles per hour. My daughter was sitting there, and fortunately, no injuries occurred. This happened on the passenger side, but six months ago, it happened on the driver’s side as well, which I replaced with a used part for $200. This is definitely a dangerous defect and needs to be added to the recall list.

53 Seats problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/25/2024

My passenger headrest deployed while I was driving. My passenger just felt alittle hit in back of her head from the impact but nothing major. Nobody has looked at it because it just happened last night.

54 Seats problem of the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/14/2024

2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee; manufacture date October 2018 vehicle engine off and vehicle in park in the driveway. Came out to the car to get something out of it and found that the passenger side active headrest safety feature had deployed. My car was not involved any type of collision - nothing has hit my car. It just popped out all on its own when no one was in the car and the vehicle wasn’t even turned on. I have seen several reports on this problem, and Jeep agreed to extend the warranty on this problem indefinitely but only on year models up to 2018. My vehicle was manufactured in 2018 but the dealer says my vehicle VIN is not included for this warranty. That’s ridiculous! the same exact problem has occurred to my headrest that they cover for everyone else but not my vehicle. Same problem, made in the same year as the other vehicles were made but mine not covered because the vehicle is labeled as a 2019 design. Also, the faulty part is also made of plastic!!.

55 Seats problem of the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/09/2024

I was driving my kids to school when the driver seat moved forward on its own and pushed me against the steering wheel. I was able to remain calm and thankfully and move the seat back. Very scary.

56 Seats problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/03/2024

The driver's side active head restraint deployed without warning striking me in the back of the head, fortunately not hard enough to seriously injure me, but hard enough to cause a headache. I had just gotten into the vehicle to drive to work, so it wasn't even moving. There are broken pieces of plastic that apparently used to hold it closed. My vehicle has no uncompleted recalls, but now looking at my vehicle information online I've discovered that there was a "warranty extension" in 2020 regarding a possible failure exactly like this, and I've also discovered there were lawsuits following reports of injuries! Chrysler never notified me, nor did the Jeep dealer bring it to my attention during any of my routine service appointments. Why wasn't this a recall requiring repair instead of left to be a ticking time bomb just waiting to go off??? adding insult to injury, the warranty extension to 10 years after the in-service date in 2013 doesn't cover repairs today! the passenger side restraint hasn't popped open (yet!) but I'm not stupid enough to wait until it fails and injures a family member, so now I have to replace both sides and pay for both out of my pocket. Please make this a recall so Chrysler will have even a slight urgency to notify owners, and hopefully decide to replace the head rests immediately, regardless of how old they are.

57 Seats problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/31/2024

Front passenger seat head rest deployed for no reason and without any impact or accident.

58 Seats problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/31/2024

On Saturday, August 31, I was traveling approximately 50 on a freeway overpass, when my head was hit/jutted forward, causing an immediate migraine. This caused me to hit the brakes a bit and veer a little. Upon stopping and inspecting, the headrest had come apart. After googling, I see there had been a serious issue with the “active headrest restraint” on select Chrysler models. This matches my incident.

59 Seats problem of the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/20/2024

Passenger seat headrest exploded and hit my wife in the head/ear/neck and now she is in a lot of pain. This is the most random thing I have ever seen. My wife and daughter were driving through a parking lot going 4mph and the headrest just exploded. The plastic pieces holding the springs back broke and let the headrest fly forward into my wife’s head/ear/neck.

60 Seats problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/16/2024

I got into my car and headed home from work. All of a sudden, my headrest popped apart and smacked me in the back of the head. I was not involved in any sort of accident. I was just driving. I pulled over and looked around because I didn’t understand what smacked me in the back of the head. I got out of my vehicle and looked at my seat. My head wrist had popped completely apart, and the clips that held it together were broken, disabling me from putting it back together so that I could drive safely and comfortably.

61 Seats problem of the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/09/2024

The driver seatback (backrest) moves forward spontaneously while driving, and will pin the driver against the steering wheel if you don't press the backrest control button on the side of the seat again. This is incredibly dangerous and unacceptable. This is the second time I will bring in the car to the dealer to address this same issue.

62 Seats problem of the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/07/2024

When using the heated seat feature, there was a faint electrical smell. It got worse after about 5 minutes. I shut the heated seats off and the smell started to disappear. I read some Jeep forums and this seems a common issue in the Jeeps with suede & leather seats for there to other be an electrical short, or “hot spot” on a certain part.

63 Seats problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/05/2024

-the passenger seat head rest popped open (exploded - it was super loud) when in the process of backing up out of my driveway. - the safety of everyone in the car was put at risk. My husband was in the seat and was hit in the back of the head. My son, his wife and their 2 month old daughter was in the back seat. - the problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by anyone. It just happend last night. - it has not been inspected yet either. - there was no indication of any issue with the head rest. There was no collision or problem prior to the rest rest popping open (or exploding, seriously).

64 Seats problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/05/2024

My driver seat headrest popped out while I was driving and hit the back of my head rather hard. It startled me and thankfully I was able to keep control of my vehicle. After investigating the issue, it is visible that the clips that hold the pressured headrest in place are broken. Jeep dealership said it is not a warranty issue and not a recall issue. It should be a defect issue for replacement. No warning lamps went off, no beeping prior to hit happening. Also, a few months later, the passenger headrest did the exact same thing. Nobody was even in the seat. I was driving and I heard a pop sound and looked over at the headrest protruding from its frame. Sure enough, same problem. Something broke inside of the headrest and I am unable to press it back together. One headrest doing it may not be an issue; however, both headrest doing it while not being involved in hard breaking or an accident is not acceptabe.

65 Seats problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/02/2024

Passenger headrest deployed without an accident.

66 Seats problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/01/2024

Passenger seat headrest popped open. It could have been harmful if we were in the car when it happened. There was no warning. We have owned the Jeep since 2017. We do not adjust the headrests. There has been no wear and tear since we purchased, so no reason this should have broken on its own.

67 Seats problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/19/2024

I was trying to raise my headrest to install a seatcover and the headrest deployed in my face. The vehicle was parked and not running, I was not injured, only startled. However, had I been driving this message would read differently. After searching google I found there are known issues for this and it was suggested to report it to NHTSA. I have an appointment Monday at 9am at toliver in mineola, TX to have it looked at.

68 Seats problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/01/2024

While driving down the road the active headrest on the passenger seat activated and came apart. It is now hanging on by the cord. The dealer we bought the Jeep off of said because it is out of warranty there is nothing they can do. No one can now ride in the passenger seat due to the headrest hanging by the wires.

69 Seats problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/13/2024

The passenger headrest just snapped forward and the clips broke.

70 Seats problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/13/2024

The headrest restraint in the driver's seat spontaneously deployed hitting the back of my head while I was driving. It is available for inspection. The deployment was startling/surprising - quite a distraction - my impulse was to turn around to see what hit me - it wasn't readily apparent until I re-oriented my body in the seat and found my headrest had moved forward making it uncomfortable to drive. A web search indicated other Jeep/durango owners have experienced this - some are attempting to "reset" the headrest on their own. A call to Chrysler/Jeep customer care confirmed that the warranty on this item had been extended to 14 Mar 2023 - no recall. I was not notified to my knowledge. They declined to help me. The vehicle has not been inspected. There were no leading indications of a failure, nor is there an indication currently, other than the headrest is split open and it is uncomfortable to drive. Why has a safety device that has obviously failed in multiple cases and was known to the manufacturer not become a recall?! this is irresponsible! the dealer indicated there is no means to repair this - a replacement headrest. In light of the cost of "repair" it is no wonder owners are trying to fix this on their own.
