While driving down the highway the passenger seat headrest airbag deployed. Causing it to hit the back of my head with no warning. There were not any lights on or anything.

Last year while driving my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the headrest collision system went off for no reason, hitting me in the back of the head. Luckily I did not lose control of the vehicle and there was no collision or injury to myself. It was very scary, but I maintained control of the vehicle. I went to my local Jeep dealer pembroke pines Jeep auto nation at 13601pines blvd suite a pembroke pines, FL 33027. They told me it was a known issue and the service person made an appointment for me later that week , at which they replaced the headrest at no cost to me under a recall service bulletin issued by Jeep/stellantis. The same thing happened last week while driving, when the passenger side headrest activated for no reason, this time striking my wife in the head. I went back to the same dealership. They told me that this headrest is no longer covered under the warranty which has now expired in April of 2025. And would cost $800 to repair. They told me to call stellantis and see if they would cover the repair. I went home and called stellantis, whose customer service agent advised me that he was going to escalate my concern to his supervisor. I got a call today and they told me that my car is not covered by any warranty and that I would be responsible for the repair. My car VIN number does not fall under the recall which has expired. He also told me that stellantis is not responsible for the repair and he should ask the dealer to see if they would possibly split the cost of the repair with me. This could of been a very serious situation, had I lost control of the vehicle as a driver. I looked further online and in Jeep owners club forums and this seems to be a common problem with Jeeps and Dodge durangos, both owned by stellantis. This is a clear and dangerous safety issue!.
My active head rest internal plastic clips that hold the headrest from releasing randomly broke. The headrest propelled forward while driving almost causing an accident. I looked in the headrest and the retaining clips broke without a cause event. I've liked online at threads and this is incredibly common in the Grand Cherokee.

Driver side headrest deployed while driving almost causing an accident. Passenger headrest deployed 3-weeks later while parked with engine off. Both incidents left a metal pin behind.
The contact owns a 2022 Jeep grand wagoneer. The contact stated that after entering the vehicle, it was discovered that the front passenger's side seat lumbar section had erroneously bulged outward making the front passenger’s seat extremely uncomfortable. Additionally, the contact stated while seated, the front passenger's head did not comfortably reach the headrest. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was determined that the front passenger’s seat lumbar module was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred with the front driver's side seat several months later. The front driver's side seat was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted regarding the failures. The failure mileage was 51,000.

Hello, I am reporting failure on the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee in which the drivers side headrest activated while the vehicle was not in operation and not involved in any accident. The active head restraint had activated while the vehicle was parked and in a non-running condition. No accident occurred during this time frame. The passenger side active headrest is still in the factory location and has not been activated. The drivers side head restraint has activated and can not be returned to original position. My current safety is at risk as the active head restraint is not functioning per original safety design intent. My head and neck are currently constrained in a position that causes discomfort while driving due to the location of the active head restraint. The manufacturer (authorized dealer) has been contacted and they responded with a response including that a recall was not issued for this failure type. A warranty period was extended to 10 years from manufacture date which my 2013 has eclipsed. No inspections have been completed to date. The parts have been untouched since the date of discovery. There were no signs of this issues prior to discovery. There are no service or warning lights currently illuminated on the dash or driver information screen. This is a safety related failure and needs to be repaired by the oem with no cost to the customer. A well documented and known issue exists and puts the owner/operator of the vehicle at a increased level of risk of injury by continuing to operate this vehicle in its current condition.
I am writing to report a malfunction in the active headrest deployment system in my vehicle. While driving, the passenger’s side headrest unexpectedly deployed without any indication of an impact or collision, posing a potential safety risk. My wife was in the seat at the time when the unit deployed jarring her head forward. Upon my investigation, it appears that the one of the failure points were internal plastic components. This malfunction caused the headrest to deploy randomly, despite there being no collision or triggering event. While the headrest is designed to deploy during a rear-end collision to prevent neck injuries, its unintended activation while driving can cause discomfort, distraction, or even injury, especially if it occurs suddenly. If this happened during an emergency maneuver or while driving at high speed, it could also interfere with my ability to maintain control of the vehicle. At this time, the vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. However, I believe a more thorough inspection of the headrest system, and perhaps the vehicle’s onboard diagnostics, could provide insight into the issue. There were no warning lamps, error messages, or other noticeable symptoms prior to the headrest deploying unexpectedly. This malfunction occurred without any prior indication of a problem. The deployment was a sudden event while driving, with no alerts or warnings beforehand.
Carbon fiber door panels completely fell off and driver rear end safety headrest went off while driving and gave me a minor blast on back off my head… I was not in a rear end collision!.
I own a 2022 Jeep grand wagoneer series iii (VIN [xxx] ) that has experienced repeated, unresolved electrical system failures which pose a direct risk to my safety and to the motoring public. The vehicle has already required fourteen warranty visits, with thirty-one days out of service and twenty repeat repairs. The problems include multiple no-crank/no-start events that have left me stranded, four premature battery failures, and ongoing electrical malfunctions affecting the instrument cluster, infotainment system, hvac, rear camera, mirrors, power running boards, and other electronic modules. These failures show that the electrical system is unstable and unpredictable. On [xxx], after the latest no-start incident, the dealership’s service manager told me directly that the issue was “more than just a bad battery. ” despite this acknowledgment, the only action taken was to replace the battery for the fourth time and declare the vehicle “repaired. ” Jeep’s customer care initially agreed that the history showed a deeper safety issue and promised to open a star engineering inspection, but that inspection has never been scheduled. Instead, I am being pressured to pick up and drive a vehicle that the dealership itself admitted has unresolved electrical problems. This is not just a matter of inconvenience — the risk of sudden electrical shutdowns while driving, or the loss of critical safety systems such as brakes, steering modules, and cameras, presents a clear hazard to my family and others on the road. A vehicle with this history should not be returned to service based only on repeated battery swaps while the underlying defect remains unidentified. I respectfully ask NHTSA to investigate the 2022 Jeep grand wagoneer series iii for systemic electrical failures and to ensure that stellantis does not force consumers to operate unsafe vehicles that continue to suffer from recurring electrical shutdowns. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The headrests activator failed on the driver’s seat and hit me in the back of the head. I was driving about 35mph. This vehicle has never been in an accident. A week later the same thing happened in the passenger seat to a passenger. Upon inspection the plastic failed that secures the latch-pin. We were never notified about this problem!.

Instrument panel switches to italian, forward collision off light gets stuck on and my seat moved abruptly while I was driving down the road. I have taken my Jeep into the dealership last year for this problem, it was “fixed” but has come back. Noticed the light stuck on last week. Today while I was driving the panel changed to italian and my seat moved abruptly. Many people on online forums express experiencing the same problem.
My passenger headrest is coming apart spontaneously. It has an active airbag system. Apparently my VIN is just outside a known recall range. I have called Jeep and the dealership, both stated I needed to report to NHTSA. The Jeep will be serviced tomorrow at the dealership for diagnosis and repairs.
While driving the passenger side active headrest made a popping sound and the headrest sprung forward.
I was driving down the highway to work and all of a sudden my headrest came apart and hit my head. I was able to get pulled over but was stunned with what had just happened. I called a dealership to get the part fixed and they want 750 dollars. I do not have that kind of money and now am driving my Jeep with the headrest messed up. I do not know what to do to get this fixed as it is a safety issue as I am driving down the road. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Front passenger active headrest deployed for no reason. No accident or damage. It deployed all by itself for no reason.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? while driving, the passenger seat side airbag deployed unexpectedly. I was moving slowly, just starting to cross an intersection after a traffic light turned green, when the airbag in the passenger seat “exploded” without warning. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? the sudden loud noise startled me. This caused me to panic while in an active intersection. When I saw the seat airbag deploy, I became extremely concerned that my own seat could also explode, potentially causing injury to my back. The fear and distraction while driving put both my safety and that of surrounding drivers at risk. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no. There were no warning lamps, messages, sounds, or any other symptoms before the airbag deployed. The failure occurred suddenly without any prior indication.

Driver active headrest self deployed while driving. No explainable cause as vehicle was not in an accident. It happened while driving normally. No cause can be observed.
The bolt broke on the driver's side seat. I had it replaced and I would like the car manufacture to reimburse me. Several Jeep owners have posted on this issue. For the 2001 Jeep front seat bolt recall, it is important to note that there is no specific recall for the front seat bolts. However, there have been complaints regarding the stability and safety of the front seats in the 2001 Jeep cherokee. Complaints: many owners have reported issues with the front seat frame breaking, causing the seat to become unstable or wobbly. 1 safety concerns: these issues have raised safety concerns, as they could lead to serious accidents if the seat is not secure. 1.

The head rest on the driver side popped open without a crash.
I was adjusting my front passenger seat when out of nowhere my headrest snapped/ pop open apart . Keep in mind I take care of my vehicle this shouldn’t had happened . I was checking it out and plastics pieces are broken they should fix it with a better material.
Hybrid electric system warning light on while driving with my family on the highway, difficulty with the rear seat headrests, fresh engine oil residue on the underbody. On two occasions, the vehicle remained on and was unresponsive, and all the lights on the dashboard came on, displaying lights and warnings for faults in the hybrid system and battery. It didn't respond when I tried to turn it off. As this may put my safety and that of my family at risk.
- incident: passenger seat headrest deployed without reason. Upon looking it was identified that the small plastic headrest clips spontaneously broke on their own (no accident). Car is parked in the garage every day. The headrest was normal when vehicle was parked. The headrest was found deployed when the car was utilized the next morning. - available for inspection upon request. - issue appears to be a well known problem for Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles when looking online, yet no recall noted on my specific Jeep Grand Cherokee. - safety: had this deployed while someone was in the car it could have caused injury. - no warning lights or other notifications before or after headrest deployment. - Jeep has never let me know about any headrest recall or potential headrest issue though all services have been done through their service departments.
Grand cherokee head rest popped out.
I got into our car one day and the passenger seat headrest active headrest had deployed. We were not in any type of accident or anything to cause this. After looking online on how to fix it, it seems that it is a common problem based on different group forums and videos. Our car is a 2019 and it seems this is a known issue to the vehicle for the model years prior. We are unable to get it back into place. We will need to replace the headrest which is over $600 and there was no reason it even should have deployed.

The active headrest shot off without cause and whiplashed my head and neck. There was not an accident or any reason for it to go off.
Spontaneous deployment of driver seat head rest (without any collision or trauma to the vehicle that might make it deploy). Unable to safely operate my vehicle now that head rest safety function is defective.
While driving downtown atlanta, GA I heard a loud noise and then a hit in the back of my head. I was startled at first not knowing what had happened. I first thought maybe I way hit by another vehicle, or someone may have thrown something from the overpass. I got off the interstate and found the head rest had blown open. I have since learned that possibly the car maker is aware of the problem, I don't know if the car maker is fixing the problem. I see where this could have negative results to owners that already have neck and back problems, another big concern is having an accident. This occurred [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The active headrest on the driver's seat deployed spontaneously on it's own during normal operation of my vehicle. The headrest is now unable to be reset as it appears some components of the active headrest mechanism were faulty. This put my safety at risk as a driver as the active headrest can not activate in the event that it needs to activate during a possible collision. The headrest and seat causes strain and injury to my neck while driving as it is now positioned forward from the seat. This also causes strain to the rest of my spine. This issue is not covered by the original dealer that sold me my vehicle. There are no warning lamps or messages that have appeared since this problem first occurred.
Headrest on driver's side just "exploded" open while we were just sitting in our driveway. It hit the back of my head and made a very loud sound. It could possibly have caused an accident if we were driving at the time. Local Jeep dealer says this is not covered by an ordered warranty extension although other similar older vehicles with this same issue are covered. Estimated cost of repair by the dealer over $800.
The front passenger seat lumbar/massage system malfunctioned and inflated without user input to maximum capacity. The lumbar air bladder became over-pressurized and created a large, hard, immovable bulge in the center of the seatback. The system will not properly deflate and remains in this condition. The failed component appears to be the lumbar/massage module and valve system, which is electronically controlled. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. This condition creates a rigid protrusion directly behind the occupant’s spine. In the event of a crash, this would alter occupant positioning, concentrate force on the spine, and interfere with proper restraint function and airbag performance. This will increase the risk of injury to the occupant. The problem has been confirmed by lander’s Jeep dealership in little rock, ar, which acknowledged the issue but advised that diagnosis and repair would be costly and would not be covered under my warranty or extended service contract provided by mopar. No warning lights or messages appeared prior to the failure. The issue occurred suddenly during normal use. Online research shows countless similar failures in 2022+ Jeep grand wagoneer vehicles, with consistent reports of lumbar/massage module or valve failures causing uncontrolled inflation. Some owners report repeat failures and electrical issues related to the seat module. Given the repeated nature of this failure across multiple vehicles and the potential safety implications, this issue should be investigated as a possible safety defect affecting occupant protection systems. I have multiple more examples of this from facebook wagoneer and grand wagoneer owner groups, however I am limited to just 10 uploads.
The drivers headrest spontaneously exploded while we were driving and hit the driver in the back of the head and created a loud gunshot noise that startled us. When we stopped to inspect the headrest, the plastic clips that held it in place had snapped. We were not in a collision, nor did we hit any significant bumps. His head was not even touching the headrest when it occurred.
The 2018 Grand Cherokee has issues with mother board and electrical ghosts. 1st it was headlights and dome lights. They would flicker. I had to change the front lights 2x in a year. I thought this was odd. Never did this with any car before. Then I was driving home from work during rush hour and it started to rain. Started the wipers front and back. The back wiper started and went halfway and got stuck. What happen? the front wipers went on for several revolutions (say 10-20 ) then stopped. Started again. Then stopped again. The rain intensity grew. Now the -wipers would only work when turned in opposite direction (the manual 1 pass move). This happened as I was trying to get home and stuck bumper to bumper on [xxx] . On this dangerous highway in middle of now a torrential downpour the front wipers now decided it wouldn't work at all. I couldn't see anything and veered off to the shoulder thank god - waiting for rain to stop and then safely proceeded home. The next day the wipers worked. No check engine or anything. This goes on for a week or so with no issue. Then out of nowhere the driver seat decides it has a mind of its own and pushes me all the way to the steering column. It wouldn't return when pushing the back button. I had to drive like that for my trip and then it magically went back upon restart. I take to dealer. Pump motors bad on front and back. I say not sure your correct and explain. Motor changed on front. Not fixed. Ok we think its the bcm. Changed not fixed. Finally the pdm was changed and wow it worked. 2 weeks at dealer and this shows that this issue with the control module is certainly risking peoples safety. I hope Jeep does the right thing and prevents a serious catastrophic event. Read on the Jeep electric issues and my vehicle had a previous "corrected" recall for electrical cruise control. I dont think the fireware updates or software changes fixed all the bugs. Be safe out there Jeep information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (fo.

Seat active headrest deployed on its own. Plastics holding rod inside is broken and headrest cannot be snapped back into place. No warning or symptoms prior to failure. Headrest hit passengers head when it snapped and deployed.
