When traveling 55 mph up a steep hill, the vehicle violently shifts to 2nd gear causing an unacceptable torque on the driver and persons in the car. Rpm's go from approx. 1800rpm to 5000rpm instantaneously. This has happened both when using the cruise control at 55 mph and also at 55 mph without the cruise control.

The gas pedal over took brake on 2 occasions, one time went through a red light. Replace bad front brakes. The dealer suggested that nothing was wrong with the brakes and changed the bad front brakes and the problem has not returned since.
I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee and when travelling in cruise control at 55 mph and start up a steep grade, the transmission will shift out of overdrive into 3rd gear, then immediately shift into 2nd gear. This happens everytime this situation occurs. When this shiifing occurs the engine rpm goes from about 1600 rpm to 4000 rpm. If the road were not totally dry or if you approach a curve when this happens a person could easily lose control of the vehicle. I have taken the vehicle to the dealer on 6/30/2004 and the service manager told me this is normal.
We purchased a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. When traveling in cruise control in overdrive and coming to an incline, vehicle shifts down to second or third gear then immediately back to conventional high. We have taken the Jeep back to the dealer numerous times for this problem to be told nothing is wrong. This Jeep has 17,000 miles and has always had this problem.
The consumer started the vehicle from the park position and placed in reverse, with foot on the brake pedal, the vehicle had taken off out of control, hitting other vehicles. The dealer could not find a problem. Scc.

Since my initial report on this vehicles sudden acceleration we have had it back to the dealer for repair or correction of this condition. Dealer could not find any codes, or defect. Dealer claims that Chrysler knows nothing of this problem even though your site lists many other instances of the same type. They could offer no help to the service department in resolving this serious and potentially life threatening situation. How many reports of the same type have to be filled before an investigation of this condition takes place?.

I was cruising at 50 mph when suddenly the vehicle started to accelerate uncontrollably, I stepped on the brakes, but the vehicle continued to accelerate. . I had to turn of the engine to stop. And when I tried to restart the vehicle. It just revved really high. . I check the floormats and it was in place the gas pedal was not stuck in the floormat.
While switching the vehicle from neutral to drive owner put foot on gas pedal and the vehicle took off. Owner applied brakes and vehicle kept going until stopping on its own will. Engine still revved while being stopped with the brakes. Dealer said there was no problem.
While applying brakes vehicle suddenly accelerated out of control, resulting in a collision. Dealer has inspected and repaired vehicle.
On both failures the Jeep was in park, with the brake on and the engine idling. The car literally took off in reverse and both times was only stopped by fences. Both times the vehicle was on flat ground. I reported the first incidence to the dealer and they said that if I couldn't prove it, they weren't responsible and therefore I would have to pay for the damage. I did not report the second incidence, but I have also not fixed the damage. I am terrified to drive the vehicle. Scc ***dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut-over to artemis****747979.
Due to a defective rear differential in the transmission which been replaced once, while driving vehicle lunged forward, which may have caused a crash. Also, in reverse position there is a loud noise. Problem still exists.
While driving 35 mph vehicle suddenly accelerated, consumer applied brakes, but this did not stop vehicle. Consumer kept pushing brake pedal to floor, and after a few seconds, vehicle slowed down. Mileage was 3000. This happened again on 4 Aug 2001 while driving about 5 mph in a parking garage, vehicle accelerated while in reverse. Applied brakes, but there was no braking action. Vehicle came to a stop when it hit another vehicle. Damage to Jeep was $5700. 00, damage to other vehicle unknown at this time. Both times, no injuries.
While backing into a parking space the vehicle accelerated in reverse, hitting a pillar. The rear part of the vehicle's body was almost pushed up to the front doors from impact.
Intermittently when brakes are applied vehicle revs to a high rpm. Also, while making a turn, vehicle will stall out and die. Dealer has inspected vehicle several times, and has not been able to correct problem. There was a crack in the bracket for the power steering pump which disabled the fan belt. Consumer states vehicle has experienced electrical problems.
